R/3 Enterprise v mySAP ERP 2003 v ECC 5.0 v mySAP ERP 2004

Dear All,
We are finalizing a proposal to upgrade our ancient SAP 3.1H system. Fortunately there are a number of options available to us and we need to know the differences between them.
We would be very grateful if anyone has any information regarding the PRO's and CON's of each of the above options in the subject title e.g.
what are the differences between mySAP ERP 2003 and 2004?
Is there a web page or document that summarises this information? What are the advantages of ECC5?
And the big question, what is the best way we can justify to our board an upgrade to anything higher than SAP4.7??
Any links/suggestions/documentation would be greatly appreciated.
Nigel Blanchard

Hi Nigel,
Just to help narrow down you decision: ECC 5.0 is part of mySAP ERP 2004 so this is one choice. My suggestion would be to go to the latest version that you are comfortable with. Most companies are choosing mySAP ERP 2004 over SAP R?3 Enterprise (the 4.7 release you mentioned). There are a few companies who are planning for mySAP ERP 2005 which just entered ramp up.
It really comes down to two factors: What business functionality would you like to have access to and how leading edge does your company want to be?
The safe choice is mySAP ERP 2004 but if your company does not do upgrade with high frequencies (i.e. still on 3.1H) you may want to consider the mySAP ERP 2005 release.
Customers are really happy mySAP ERP 2004, I would suggest that you ask the question to some of the SAP user groups (like ASUG). They should be able to confirm this.
Cheers,
Mike.

  • Upgrade from ERP 6.0 with AFS 6.0 to ERP EHP4 - AFS 6.4

    Dear all,
I've upgraded our Solution Manager to latest maintenance (all latest release/all latest Sp/all Oss notes)
I 'm unable to have a queue with EHP4 - Afs 6.4 from Solution Manager
If I define a system as SAP ERP 6 with Afs, the sol. man. give me the option to upgrade to EHP4 but 'forget' AFS 6.4.
If I define a system as Afs Server 6, the sol. man doesn't show me the option to upgrade to EHP4.
Any Idea to exit from this stall condition ?
If I choose the option SAP ERP 6.0 to upgrade to EHP4, SAPHEPI will ask me the AFS upgrade CD and all AFS Sp ?
    My target is:
    - ERP 6.0 SPS 16 with AFS SP8 + ERP 6 EHP4 SPS 4 with AFS 6.4 SP 2, the max possibile now.
Thanks tho who will try to help me.

  • Enterprise manager 11g - win 2003 - sys/passwd error

We have windows 2003 server and we are running 2 oracle databases in
    version 11g.
We were successfully configured EM for one database and when we tried for the other database we encountered configuration errors and the log file doesnt carry that much info for me to understand the error. I searched on google and was able to find one solution, which stated that the ocijdbc11.dll was overlooked and ocijdbc10.dll is needed to fix the issue." It was a bug". I tried the solution and it worked, however the emca command ended saying cannot start dbcontrol. Went through the log and found DBCONTROL created and secured.
So manually restarted DBCONTROL, it started well.
I opened the page and tried logging in using sys/passwd as sysdba, it didnt allow me in.
I even deconfigured and configured again. i got the same error.
Can anybody suggest what would be the cause and solution or work
    around for this.

    Hello,
I am trying to find any white paper regarding the benefits of migrating oracle database from windows server 2003 32bit
    to RedHat linux server 64bit.
The current db version on windows is 10.2.0.5.0
The new version on linux will be 11.2.0.3.0
If anyone crossed such a white paper describing the pros & cons for such a migration..
    Thanks alot.

John makes some very good points but I would like to clarify one thing from his post: you are planning three migrations:
    1. From 32bit -> 64bit
    2. From Windows to Linux
    3. From Oracle 10gR2 to 11gR2
The second of these is the one most liekly to give you grief. You certainly should not attempt to combine it with a database upgrade. Either move the database to RHEL and then upgrade it, or upgrade it on Windows and then move it to the new server.
Of these, the first is the least controversial. So it's a nice point whether it is worth upgrading from Windows 32bit to Windows 64bit prior to moving to Linux.

  • Migrating enterprise root CA from 2003 to 2008R2 - specific situation

    So i have following setup:
Windows 2003R2 SP2 - owning all FSMO roles, root CA
    Windows 2003R2 SP2 - DC
I want to upgrade domain to Windows 2008 R2 and migrate root CA. Since for CA migration it is essential that i preserve the same name what would be high level order of actions?
    1) move FSMO roles to 2nd win2k3 DC
    2) backup CA
    3) depromo and remove server from domain
    4) join win2k8r2 to the domain under same name
    5) restore CA on it
    6) prepare forest/domain
    7) DC promo
    8) transfer FSMO roles
    9) depromo and remove old servers
    OR
    1) move FSMO roles to 2nd win2k3 DC
    2) join win2k8r2 to the domain
    3) backup root CA
    4) prepare forest/domain
    5) depromo and remove ex win2k3 server from domain
    6) rename win2k8 so it matches removed server
    7) restore CA on it
    8) DC promo
    9) transfer FSMO roles
    10) depromo and remove old servers
Biggest question is should I DC promo 1st and then restore CA or other way around?

I migrated but i have few small issues:
    1) after i restored backup i can't see issued certificates
    2) In certmgr.mcs when i do Automatically enroll and retrieve certificates no templates are available but when i go to personal container and request certificate i see templates and i my cert requests finishes fine. Also i tried auto enrol over IIS work
and over web form also works.
There is 1 more confusing step from this guide http://technet.microsoft.com/pt-pt/library/ee126140(v=ws.10).aspx#BKMK_RestoreReg
If the target CA's computer name is different from the source CA's computer name, search the file for the host name of the source CA computer. For each instance of the host name found, ensure that it is the appropriate value for the target environment. Change
the host name, if necessary. Update the CAServerName value.
    Importante
If the host name is located in the .reg file as part of the CA name, such as in the Active value within the Configuration key or the CommonName value within the CAName key,
do not change the setting. The CA name must not be changed as part of the migration. This means the new target CA must have the old CA's name, even if part of that name is the old CA's host name.
So do i change it since my new CA has new name or not? I did change is but not sure what is the effect since i did not change Common name and Active value which contains old CA name.

  • Hardware requirements for SAP ERP 2005 using ECC 6.0

    Hello everyone,
i am already new and need information about the min. hardware requirements for a SAP ERP 2k5 System using ECC 6.0 with IDES 7.10.
I read the Master Guides about ERP, but i am not even more clever than before.
The OS is MS Windows 2k3 Server EE.
The last information i had from another one to this configuration is:
    1 dual-core cpu (? Ghz)
    4-6 GB RAM
    300 GB HDD
Does it fit? Can anyone help me out?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    IDES 7.10?!?
If it's an IDES system you want to set up, HDD space may be the bottleneck. It's sufficient for installation, but you may run out of disk space since note <a href="https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1013391">1013391</a> states
    Hardware Requirement
                     MS-SQL  ORACLE   MaxDB   DB2 Win/Unix  AS/400
    DB size (GB):    160     220      220          160       280
Since IDES is for education and training purposes only the rest should be sufficient.
I'm running an ERP 6.0 IDES system (32 bit) on a single core, 3.2 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 250 GB System and 500 GB SAP/DB HDD with pretty good response time.

  • Modifying Word 2003 documents on Win XP partition from Word 2004 on Mac

    Hello -
I was under the impression that installing Win XP SP2 on a FAT32-formatted Boot Camp partition would allow me to create Word documents in Windows (using Word 2003), and then open and modify the documents when I am back running under OSX Leopard. I can open the documents from OSX in Word 2004 for Mac, but if I change the document and then try to save it back to the Win XP partition I get the error message:
"You cannot save while the file is in use by another process. Try saving the file with a new name."
When I try to save with a new name (again, from Word 2004 for Mac, to the Win XP partition) I then get the error message:
"Word cannot save or create this file. The disk may be full or write-protected..."
I can of course save the modified file on the Mac partition, but was hoping I'd have the option of also being able to work with Win XP Word files directly from Mac OSX as well. Anyone have any insight into getting around this issue? Thanks much.

Thanks for the response - I'll keep a note of that forum for any future problems I may have.
I've come up with my own workaround for the problem though.
It seems that new documents I create on the Mac work just fine in Windows. So I simply created a blank document on the Mac, set up the document margins etc to match the edited document I was having trouble with and copied the entire contents over. Worked a treat. Must have been the way it was created in the first place.

  • Database backup strategy(MS sql server 2005, Winodws 2003, SAP ECC 6.00)

    Hello gurus,
I am confused, about the backup system i should go for(backup device, abckup software)?? Fllowing is my SAP Landscape.

    2) Solution manager
    3) Development

<b>    I want to implemente before go live, backup system in my company.</b>
We have received backup schedule from our implementation partner. Our backup system is as follows.
Backup device is HP Surestore Autoloader.
    Cartridge capacity is 100/200GB
Backup software is Veritas (version 8.6)
Note: Through this we take backup of our legacy system and it takes around 3 1/2 hour to 4 hours to take backup of 60 GB of our legacy data.
Right now the problem is our backup software version is old and i even believe, the hardware we have is not sufficient to take daily database backup and fortnightly, SAP system backup.
The only solution to the problem i can see is
    1) to go for another backup device exclusively for SAP system
    2) Even go for SQL Agent software used to take backup of SAP system thorugh Veritas.
    3) Even upgrade my Veritas version.
    <b>   Its a request to GURUS</b>
    1) Is the solution, i am thinking to this issue is correct.?? If no then please advice me
    2) Please tell me the best backup system in your opinion for my above mentioned system.

    Hello,
A indication of the size of each database would be helpful.
However, its NOT a good idea to take only one on line backup a week. What if you have a tape error and cant recover a TL? You have no chance for recovery. This is not best practice. Can the business except a 4,5 or even 6 days loss of data - id guess not.
This is what id do if you don't want to purchase a new device, I would take an online backups from SQL to disk every night - this would be a separate disk! From the disk you can the pick up the backup to take at a time to suit that wont impact the existing backup. Plus you always have two copies of the backup. One on disk, one on tape.
My normal transaction log strategy is similar, again backup to disk, every hour on a production system. Then after midnight move the existing 24 logs into an archive folder. This folder would also be picked up by the existing device at a suitable time before being moved to a 'saved' folder and deleted the next day. Again you always have multiple copies of the data. two on disk, two on tape.

From the ABAP perspective, few differences are.
The WS_* function modules used in 4.6c has become obsolete from 4.7C. All the WS_* FMs have been replaced by GUI_* FMs.
(ii) Concept of Unicode is introduced.
(iii) Few tables have been modified in ECC6.0.
Tables TVARV & TTREX have been replaced by TVARVC & TTREXN respectively.
(iv) we have enhancement points and enhancement sections along with enhancemnts and BADI'S . and we can write the part of code in those points.
For functional differences please check out the following link:

ECC->enterprise central component.ECC 6.0 is the advanced version.if we consider in technical point of view then i can give u one example.
In the new version we have enhancement points and enhancement sections along with enhancemnts and BADI'S.SAP has provided these ,so that without going for access keys we can write our code in the enhancement points along with Standard SAP code.So now SAP has provided more user friendly environment. Also a new DEBUGGER also arrived with the new version. Now we can see more things in the new er version of DEBUGGER.

  • What is new in ECC 6.0

can u please tell me what is new in ECC 6.0 .what is the difference between this and older version.
a ppt or pdf  will be helpful

    Hi,
ECC 5.0 is based on WAS 6.40 and ECC 6.0 is based on WAS 7.00.
From functional point of view there are some minor differences, as the core functionalities are not changed a lot. However there is Industrial Solutions intergarated to ECC 6.0 by default.
From ABAP point of view you have the following new elements/components:
    - New ABAP editor /meanwhile it's available via downport for lower releases as well/
    - ABAP WebDynpro
    - Enhancement framework
    - Regular experssion support
Also check this link for functionality differences.
    http://solutionbrowser.erp.sap.fmpmedia.com/
SAP R/3 is basic ERP that every one keeps talking about which has got different versions ike 3.1, 4.0, 4.6, 4.7. The latest one in this is the ECC which again has got two versions in the market - ECC 5.0 and ECC 6.0.
NetWeaver is the techology stack which gives other solutions that work with R/3 and also provide a technology platform for the ERP to work.
EP - Enterprise portal is a part of the NetWeaver stack and can be used to provide web interface for the user apart from the standard protal functionalities.
You can find more details of NetWeaver here
