  • Help dvd and cd not buring

    Hey
I am trying to burn a dvd as well as cds but after almost finished burning them an error response comes up that says an error occured and you cannot continue burning this cd/dvd
I don't know how to fix it can anyone suggest something???????
    Thank you

Arianna,What software are you using? Have you burnt a similar disk before? Are you using the same media? Have you upgraded any software recently? Are you trying to do any complex tasking at the same time?
Actually scrub that - given your other issues (other posts) you need to fix those first. I guess you're trying to back-up your data eh?
Sorry not much help at this time

  • HELP DVD Problem

My HP 530 DVD RW has stopped working and does not show when I try to 'explore' to it. It will open and close fine.
    I'm using Windows Vista Business.
Device Manager has yellow ! by the DVD device and says:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available. Clicked check for solutions and got nothing.
I contacted HP chat support and they suggested the following:
In Device Manager, right click on CD/DVD drive listed under CD ROM drives and click on Un-install.
When the drive is un-installed, please visit the link, then download the patch, extract it and run it and restart the unit after it has been run. This will automatically fix the erring registry entries.
    http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/XP_CD-DVD-Fix.zip
I did this and it did not fix the problem. Any suggestions?

    Hi,
I believe the link to the fix for the registry entries you mention in your post is for Windows XP.
First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Vista
Check if the drive is now working.
If the drive is not working, from the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Click to open the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.  Right click on the first channel and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When uninstalled repeat the process for each channel.  Also if an ATA controller is listed, right click and uninstall this, again not deleting drivers if asked. Then open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.
Reboot the notebook and let Windows reinstall the devices.  Check the drive again.
If it still isn't working, run the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below again.
    Vista
Next, from the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it now works.

  • Help - DVD freezes halfway through movie!

I've tried burning something that is 1hr and 32 minutes long... but both times I've burned it, it freezes sometime during the 47 minute mark. When I say it freezes, I mean when it's finished burning, and I try it in a DVD player, it starts freezing as if it were scratched. The DVD had no scratches both times...
    I've tried:
Making more space on my computer.
Closing all other programs and not touching the computer as it's burning.
Perhaps I need to make some chapters? As of right now, I've only burned the movie as one, bulk movie that you have to fast-forward through.
    Any ideas?

    Hi
    1. iDVD 8 has three levels of qualities.
    • Professional Quality (movies up to 120 min.) - BEST (iDVD08 only)
    • Best Performances (movies less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
    • High/Best Quality (movies up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
    2. From
    • FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov
    (not selfcontained)
    (not with QT conversions)
    • iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to the movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
    • iMovie’08 not meant to go to iDVD. Use iMovie HD 6 (need to b e publiched into the
    media manager.
    3. I use Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly eg x1 (in iDVD’08 this can also be set)
    4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc).
    5. Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
    6. DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW)
    7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
    8. iMovie 6 has a bug: if You emptie the trash in iMovie ken burns might stop to wirk and photos has to be re-imported and re-done.
Note from - elkriverken: With the help of others, I was able to narrow down the problem. However the final solution was to keep all the audio confined to only ONE track. When I added audio on the second tract overlapping the first tract audio, the noise or flutter began and continued past the ending of the audio from the second tract. Now there is no flutter. The video and audio now work perfectly. Thanks to all.

  • Help, DVD/CD just went Bonky!

I posted this in the DVD section but didn't get any suggestions - so I'm hoping someone here may have some clues that can help...
My DVD drive suddenly stopped loading/mounting cds/dvds. It took them in then just moved them in and out of the slot back and fourth.
I did the PRAM and it made it worse, now the DVD/CD's can't even go into the slot.
Any ideas on what's going on?
This came on suddenly with no warning or symptoms.
Thanks in adance for any help.

Well, it was toast. Have know idea why it went bad.
A local Mac repair shop replaced it with an upgraded 8x mce drive with mac drivers for $145 plus $75 labor in 4 hours.
Apple wanted waaay more time and like $700 for their drive. NOT.
So, for a tad over $200 I ended up with a nice upgrade and no hassles. Though it would have been nice if it hadn't just quit after very, very little use during the time I've owned the computer.

  • Please help, DVD not playing in Mac that burnt t

I recently bought an iMac Core duo 17in. I finished my first project in iDVD and everything looked fine when I previewed in iDVD (I used slideshows exported from iPhoto as movies). Then I burnt it to a Fujifilm DVD+R. The process went smoothly and when finished the Mac ejected the finished DVD. Now the weird thing is that when I loaded the DVD to watch it in the same Mac, the computer was unable to read it and just ejected it w/o opening any application. Furthermore, my ONKYO DVD player did not recognize the disc at all. Any suggestions? Can it be related to the Region Codes and NTSC/PAL setting? But the Mac should be able to always read the DVD...It burnt it! Very frustrating...
Sorry for long message. Thanks for any help...
iMac Core Duo 17in   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

You should not be using +R format DVDs. They will not play in most standard DVD players, although computers seem to be more forgiveable...
The recommended brand on this forum is Verbatim -R ( and not rewriteable either!)
I use TDK -R and they work fine.

  • Looking for help-DVD with web/email links

    Hall writes...
"snip...DVD@ccess is actually quite limited and not entirely compatible with the range of DVD playback software/hardware available on a PC... you might be better off using eDVD from Sonic (which is PC software, making use of the Interactual Player, rather than @ccess)."
I've no experience with Sonic yet but there is a small project in Chicago that needs help immediately. I'm looking for leads to pass on.
    [email protected]
    Thanks

    Well, there's the rub.
If you use DVD@ccess then pretty much every Mac will run the software easily enough, but you have to install it on a PC and even then it doesn't work as it should in a lot of cases.
If you use eDVD then PCs will almost certainly already have the player installed (since it is a far more ubiquitous piece of software than @ccess, and is used by a high number of commercial discs already in circulation), but you'll need to install the Interactual player on the Mac...
There are probably going to be far less Mac users than PC users - which might indicate that you go for eDVD and a more PC friendly solution.
But don't be fooled - eDVD is not the saviour that we all hope it will be. There are still issues on some PCs with it, and as you have already found, some issues on a Mac as well. The thing to consider is whether the eDVD solution gives more compatibility overall with your target users than DVD@ccess will.
You could opt for a more simple solution and just place the documents that you want included into a ROM folder on the disc, then use a menu to explain what's there and how to get to it.
The strong advantage here is that you'd have to create that menu anyway for those who view the disc in a set top player, and you are also not trying to post edit your files (as eDVD requires) or use software that simply isn't good enough on PCs (as @ccess seems to be).
It may be a less elegant and less gimmicky option, but I'll bet hardly any of your users will know the difference anyway...

  • Help DVD conversion

I guess I am slow. I thought I could convert my Home DVD movies with Quick time pro. It seems I am unable. Does any one know how to get them off the DVDs without degrading the quality. I would like to get them into Imovie then to apple tv. I am not sure what to do. Any help would be appreciated. Since I bought quicktime already I hope someone can help me do it with this tool. When I try to open the files it says not a valid movie but they open in DVD player. ANY SUGGESTIONS ARE Appreciated
    Thanks

Use the Search Discussions (right side of this page) to review the required software. Enter MPEG-2 as the search term.
Costs no less than $20 and QuickTime Pro is not involved.

  • Please help DVD! QUALITY!

I am editing a video to go onto dvd through iDVD '05 and i need help. I am trying to get the video into the best quality, since I am not shooting HD. It is going to be projected so I need best quality possible. anyone know the best export settings it is set in 720x480

    Hi
    My unsorted thoughts.
    *DVD quality*
    1. iDVD 8 has three levels of qualities.
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality (movies up to 120 min.) - BEST
    • Best Performances (movies less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
    • High Quality (in iDVD08) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
    2. From
    • FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not selfcontaining, no conversion)
    • iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
    • iMovie’08 not meant to go to iDVD. Go via Media Browser or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start.
    3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly eg x1 (in iDVD’08 this can also be set)
This can also be done with (Apple) Disk Util tool.
    8. Don’t burn more than three DVD at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while befor next batch.
    iDVD quality also depends on:
    • HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
    • What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
    • What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JESDeinterlacer3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS: They are plabacked by a Mac - then You need not to care
    • What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
    • How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD08
    Pro Quality (only in iDVD08)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choise)
    1. go to iDVD pref. menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better) - only in iDVD08
    2. Project info: Select Professional Encoding - only in iDVD08.
    Region codes:
iDVD - only burn Region = 0 - meaning - DVDs are playable everywhere
DVD Studio pro can set Region codes:
    1 = US
    2 = EU

  • Help DVD-R door keeps closing

I just installed an Apple A103 DVD-R drive in my dual G4 1 Ghz. I can't open the drive via the eject button on my keyboard. The only way to open the drive is by using Toast, but it does not stay open..it closes right after it opens.
I installed back the old drive ( Apple A104 ) and it does the same thing...the only thing that i change was to boot using my second internal drive with OS 9. Help. Thanks

    Hi, tutudrummer -
Try booting the machine to a CD - does it continue to not work properly?
If not, if it does work okay, then the issue is probably software-based, something in the OS.
If the problem does not disappear, then the source is probably hardware. Things to consider along that line -
    • Try disconnecting all external devices except monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Sometimes a device, particularly a USB one, can interfere.
    • Try using a different keyboard. If the eject button or its membrane switch is stuck in the down position, that behavior could result.
    • Make sure nothing is pressing on the eject button on the face of the drive (this would be on the inner face of the drive itself, inside the Mac's door/tray face).
When booted to OS 9, make sure the extension HID Library is enabled (checkmarked) in Extensions Manager. This extension is usually needed in order to use the Eject and Volume keys on an Apple Pro keyboard rated for use with OS 9.
The newer Apple keyboards, those whose description in the Apple Store state OSX as a minimum OS version, are not fully compatible with OS 9 - on those there is no way to get the Eject and Volume keys to work in OS 9.

  • Help DVD Stuck

I have tried restarting and other suggestions for getting a dvd out.
I need help to get the disk out.
    Thanks

I had the good fortune to get bumped up to a higher level AppleCare tech, and he had a fix that worked for me.
First, try the things posted in other suggestions and the tech notes, e.g. restart with touch-pad mouse button held down. If the disk does not come out, this suggests that it is physically stuck rather than a software issue.
    Then,
    1) Restart and hold down Option until the system brings up the boot manager. (If your stuck disk is bootable, it should show as an icon. If it is not bootable, you will not see any indication of the disk, but the eject key will still function.)
    2) Wait for the cursor to change from the spinning watch to the normal arrow.
    3) Press the Eject key and hold it for a few seconds. The system will try to spit out the disk. If it is still stuck (it probably will be) wait until the system has finished spinning it before trying again.
    4) Take a new paper match book and open the cover. Use the flat cover (the part without the matches attached!) as a thin shim.
    5) Your goal is to slide it slightly into the top center of the drive so it will slip above top of the disk and make a smooth ramp to guide the disk down past the top edge of the slot.
    6) Press eject again. If you have the matchbook just right and are lucky, the disk will eject.
    Caveats:
--DO NOT stick the thin cardboard deep into the drive. You only want to get above the outer rim of the disk to give it a path out. 1 or 2 cm insertion seemed enough. (But the tech said he had used this technique to eject a mini-disk! Caution, because as you go deeper, there is probably more risk of jamming up a vital part of the drive.)
--Any thin strong piece of cardboard should work, as long as it is not too frayed on the edges. I started with a new match book, and it worked easily. After several tests with various disks (which showed that my problem recurs intermittently, rather than just being one bad disk, rats) the corners of my matchbook became delaminated slightly and curled. This made it much trickier to get the disk to glide out, as it caught on the corners of my matchbook. Maybe a thin glossy business card?
-- DANGER! DO NOT USE TOO THICK or TOO STIFF a card. The tech agreed that a credit card is too thick or stiff, and could damage the drive (this warning also comes from sad experience reported elsewhere in these forums)
--The matchbook technique also seems to work from the finder. I believe the tech had me do the "Option Boot" step because the system seems much less fussy about trying repeatedly to eject a disk from there than from the finder.
--The tech told me to try sliding the card above the disk. From his suggestion, I assume that disks generally catch on the top of the slot rather than the bottom. Or, perhaps the danger of hitting the lens assembly is greater if you slide under the disk? Top worked every time for me.
--My stuck disk showed up in the finder, and reappeared after each eject attempt. Thus, the system definitely knew it was there, and my drive was working fine except for the eject. If your drive is dead, all bets are off.
This is not a permanent solution; they are sending a box to return my system for repair. But I was happy to be able to retrieve my disk, and also test other disks.
Maybe a matchbook or business card will become the new paper clip.

  • Help :( DVD Drive will not read Blank DVDs but movie and data DVDs ok.

I am at loss what to do. Whenever I put in DVD with media in it (including +R), it plays and reads it all just fine. CD data reads no problem too. However, when I put in a Blank DVD, it chugs and ejects it out completely.
Preferences are fine. It says 'Ask What to Do' is set when 'You insert a Blank DVD'
Here was how it started. Previously, I could put in a blank DVD and it would be just fine but I'm having problems burning after the 10.5.6 update. Read in a post somewhere to try resetting your PRAM which I did and now it won't accept the blank DVDs. Everything else is fine.
I know a lot may say it's a bad batch, but I bought a new batch, Memorex vs. Verbatim and nothing.
Would really appreciate ANY help I can get!

    Hello
You can contact Toshiba service partner in Moscow. I am pretty sure that they can order this drive for you. Other way you can contact the notebook manufacturer and ask them which drives are compatible with it.
