R bookmarks stored anywhere in Firefox? If yes, I would like to transfer them to a new HD

My HD crashed and had to be replaced. They could not recover my bookmarks.
If my bookmarks are stored in Firefox, how can I retrieve them?

The bookmarks are stored in a file called places.sqlite in the profile folder. If you can not access the old hard drive you will not be able to recover them. For details of the location of the profile folder see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox

  • I have old firefox bookmarks stored in a seperate favorites file. I want to transfer them and cant get the answer.

This cant be this difficult. I have them saved in a "starred" favorites folder. I do not want to import from IE, I dont want to import from HTML I just want to copy these bookmarks to the new browser. I had a system crash and has to reinstall FF but I managed to keep the old favorites. I thought I had them transferred but it is just a pointer to the location on the desktop then they open a new window. I want to place them in the bookmarks or favorites nice and easy thats all. Please help
    Rando

Sorry, Firefox just can't handle the "favorites" data in the manner in which it is stored by Windows, that data has to be "exported" in HTML format thru IE. '''bookmarks.html''' is the standard interchange format used by web browsers, every web browser I have ever used has had the ability to both import and export in that format.

  • I have an iMac (800 mb, with O/S 10.3.9) with bookmarks and would like to transfer them to my MacBook Pro, but I have no idea how to do it. Please help.

Please feel free to contact me directly at [email protected]
    Thanks for your help.

Use a USB flash drive or connect the two to your home network and use file sharing.
Note that have a MacBook Pro, not a PowerBook, running 10.6.4. Update it to 10.6.8 - Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. You can then install Lion or Mountain Lion so you can use iCloud.

  • I have my old Internet Explorer-Favorites in a drawer and would like to import them in FireFox

I have my old Internet Explorer Favorites in a drawer on the harddisk and would like to import them into FireFox. How can do this?

    1.
    Open up a Firefox window.
    2.
Click on the "Bookmarks" menu and select "Manage Bookmarks." If you are using Firefox 3.6.2, then you need to click on "Organize Bookmarks..."
    3.
In the window that pops up click on the "File" menu and select "Import." In case of Firefox 3.6.2, click on "Import and Backup" just above the list. Then click on the "Import HTML" option from the drop-down list. A new window comes up.
    4.
Select the "Microsoft Internet Explorer" option if you are importing favorites from Internet Explorer on the same computer. Then click next. If you are importing from a file of saved bookmarks or favorites choose "From File" and click next.
    5.
Select the file in the open window that pops up and then click "Open" if you are importing from a file. Firefox will do the rest for you. If importing from Internet Explorer, just click "Finished" when it's done.

How can I customize the navigation bar in Firefox 29? I would like to have the refresh/stop button back in front of the navigation bar!

There isn't a built in way to do that since all the navigation toolbars are on one toolbar.
You can restore this functionality by installing the Classic Theme Restorer add-on

    Hi Lowell,
I don't know if you have the popup blocker turned on (nor if it works for audio), but if not, try it: Firefox menu > Preferences > Content > Block Popups.

  • I had a folder that was a part of firefox in the book marks are called Recently Bookmarked. It has now disappeared and i would like to know how to get it back?

This folder was not one I created, but it appeared to be a part of the bookmark area. It save all recently saved book marks and was called "Recently Bookmarked". I used this feature last night and this morning when I went to use fire fox, it is gone.
I tried restarting Firefox and it still has not fixed the problem. My question is, How do I get this feature back or how do I create a folder where everything I book mark goes into the folder until I can sort the book marks into the proper folders? thank you for your help

    See:
    * "Recently Bookmarked" is a so called [[Smart Bookmarks folders|Smart Bookmark]] that shows the result of a place query in a list.
    * "Most Visited" and "Recently Bookmarked" and "Recent Tags" are examples of so called [[Smart Bookmarks folders|Smart Bookmarks folders]] and are not real existing folders.
    * Smart folders show a list created by a query of the places.sqlite database that stores bookmarks and history in Firefox.
    * Smart folder lists show a maximum of 10 entries by default.
    * Bookmarks and history items that show up in a smart folder list are stored elsewhere in another folder and any changes made are applied to the real bookmark or history item.

  • I have recently installed Firefox 4.0 but would like to go back to 3.6. Can I do this without loosing all of my addons and bookmarks?

I have some favorite add-ons that are not yet compatible with version 4. I would like to go back to 3.6 without loosing all of my setup.

To downgrade to Firefox 3.6.* you can uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install Firefox 3.6.* available from http://www.mozilla.com - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.

  • I have to keep an old version of Firefox for work but would like to download the current version to use personally. Is this possible?

My work requires I use an old version of Firefox. This means I really can't use it for other things. I would like to install the new version but also keep the old version. Is that possible?

Yes, you can download the newest version in a portable package so the newer version and the old version you need will keep their files separated from each other.

  • Have new hard drive... previously had IE, but not on this PC. Saved "Favorites" to a file and would like to get them into Firefox

would like to import IE "Favorites" from a file I have stored

You should be able to import them into Mozilla Firefox using the Bookmarks dialouge window.
In Firefox, go to the Menu bar and choose Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks. Once the dialouge window has popped up, choose Import and Backup. Now, choose the appropriate option and then browse for the file you saved using Internet Explorer.
I hope this heled you out.
    Sincerely,
    Chris

  • I want to import my bookmarks from my old hard drive to my new computer. Old hard drive is in new computer as secondary drive, can't run firefox from it. Would like to find the file where my bookmarks are stored

have looked in the old hard drive for the file where my favorites would be stored. the only file that I can find is not the latest. I did not back up my favorites on the old computer.

Bookmarks are no longer stored in an html file. Instead, they are stored in a file called '''places.sqlite''' in your '''Profile''' folder.
    # Locate the '''places.sqlite''' file in your old hard drive.
    # Copy it into the '''Profile''' folder of your new hard drive.
    # Note that since you would be overwriting the places.sqlite in your new drive, your current bookmarks/history etc would be overwritten by the ones in the old drive.
