R.I.P. old friend

My first iPod, a Christmas present in 2001, finally gave up the ghost last night. It's only been a backup, with a small library of classical tunes for listening while reading in bed, since I got a 5th generation several years ago.
Conservatively, I figure I had 5,000 hours on that little piece of plastic and silicon and stainless, so I got my money's worth several times over.
Anyone else still got a 1stGen running?

There's a couple options. It's not the easiest. Another way to not have to wait is to call V from another phone 8009220204 and they can activate it and walk you thru settings. Depending on where youre located CS might be closed but if you got the prompt for emergency tech support they are 24/7.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post tis but i don't know where else it would fit, anyway, i met this person on minecraft a while back, we added each other on skype and were really good friends up until i had to get my comptuer repaired, after i had got skype back she hadn't been online for a while so i just forgot to go on skype really, up until a few hours ago i reinstalled skype and just remembered her, she wasn't online so i tried the view profile option to look for an email or something, but it came up saying "We can't show information about this contact because they have not been online for a long time" So i come here in the hopes i could possibly find a way to get in touch, because **bleep** do i miss her ;-;
If anyone had/has her added her skype name is [Redacted for privacy], any help would be appreciated, thanks.

New iphone (replacing an old one) keeps asking me for an old friend's apple id

I just replaced my old iPhone 4s with a new one (new number, new job, etc.) After downloading all of my info from the cloud and setting the new one up with my apple id, everything seemed fine. Now, everytime I wake the phone up or open my messaging app or frankly any other app, it asks me for a very old (like 5 years ago, I guess there are songs in iTunes??) apple id. I don't have, nor do I want, the password to that account- is there a way to figure out what needs that password so I can delete it??

There is no easy way to do this.
You can take all of the apps and music off the phone and sync bits back to the phone to determine which song/app requires the other Apple ID.
You could also try viewing the properties of each download in iTunes to find out which Apple ID made the purchase.
In iTunes go to your library > Click on a app or song > Right Click > Get Info > Summary view which Apple ID made the purchase.

My old friend

It has been ages since I've had any timecode issues but they've returned with a vegence:
Setup: G5 dual 2.5 with 4/gig of memory running Final Cut 4.5 Academic. Capturing with a newer Panasonic camcorder and JVC camcorder. Footage shot on these and a DVX100A.
ISSUE: "time code breaks" occuring in about 20% of clips. I am not attempting to capture across camera-stops. Occasionally I can actually see time code breaks, where my current frame indicator suddenly jumps out of sequence to read some random time. I have captured successfuly with both of these cameras in the past Including recently on a PowerBook without any problems.
Any ideas...?

Can you see these timecode interruptions if you just play the tape with tc displayed?
If so, you've got a bad track. It happens.
FCP is just receiving a copy of your digital file from the tape, it is not necessarily capable of doing anything to the file except write it to disk while displaying it in the capture window.
I'd check the tape very carefully first, it's the likely culprit. Next would be the integrity of your FW connection.
If you're not able to determine if it is the physical tape, the next thing to try is to dub the tape and capture the dub.
I just don't think it's FCP.

I have an iBook G3 and an iMac G4. Both have carried me through great times. They have also both been replaced by their newer siblings. Time for the hear after. But before they go, I need to make sure all the knowledge which they posses is wiped for ever. I've backed up all the data, what is an good, effective way of deleting everything!!! Thanks

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The following procedure will erase the HDD. If you want completely wipe the HDD you can choose Security Options and choose the highest level of passes, although that will take a very long time. A simple zero will do for most practical purposes. An 7-way pass should be quite thorough for all but the FBI. The method below will leave the HDD without a formatted volume for installation.
Boot from the install CD holding down the "C" key.
Select language
Go to the Utilities menu (Tiger) Installer menu (Panther & earlier) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
Select Erase tab
Select Security Options button (Tiger) Options button (Panther & earlier).
Select Zero all data or whatever level of security you want. A 35-way pass could take days.
Click OK.
Click Erase button
Quit Disk Utility.

Please refer to the Oracle Workflow Guide chapter 8, that talks about the workflow API's that you can use to manipulate the users. You can use RemoveUsersFromAdHocRole if you don't like SPIERSON, KWALKER, CDOUGLAS, etc. Those are test users populated by default with the installation.
This is a very vague explanation from Oracle for Oracle Workflow Cartridge - Version: 9.2.0 but I think it still applies to 2.6.4. In my interpretation if you remove the users roles by using :

Thank God that Adobe has scrapped the totally unusable "New" forum experiment. I for one am so glad to see the forum usable again. Be sure and test the Cineform color correction to see how it compares to the
Adobe color correction. You should be able to determine how it will perform
during the demo period before making a purchase.

One benefit of Cineform is the technical support. It's not without issues,
but they generally respond quickly.

The new voices are robotic and irritating, all of them. I just want my old friend back! I use Siri all the time, for everything, so I don't want to turn him off and use voice control as has been suggested. Does anyone know how?

Hi, my daughter and I have just got our new iPhones but I can´t create and Apple ID för her so she can´t use the ICloud service. So I tried using the one I created for myself resulting in that all my contacts apeared in her phone. What should we do?
Apple how about letting parents confirm the Apple ID for their kid but it should be created with the kids name and birthday how difficult can it be? am I the first mum who bought and Iphone for my kid?
And by the way how do we get access to all the old contacts stored on the SIM card from our preIPhone time? I thought that everything just work with Apple but I am beginning to think that I should have choosen and Android... I mean changing brand of phone doesn´t exactly mean that you want to cut contact with all your old friends...are there a solution that I havn´t figured out?

You can delete the iCloud account from her phone by going to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and choose Delete Account. I believe you will get a prompt asking if you want to remove or keep the data on the phone; if you don't want your contacts on her phone choose delete. As far as the contact on your old SIM card, if it is the same size as the iPhone SIM card you can put it in the iPhone and import the contacts (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4994). If the SIM card won't fit, then you would need to either export the contacts to your computer using appropriate software, upload your contacts to a cloud service so you can download them to your computer, or in some cases take it and your iPhone to your retailer and ask them if they can do the transfer for you. (It's also possible to cut a SIM card down to fit but it can be tricky to get it right. There are articles on this if you search with Google.) How can I recover my old account?

Ive been trying to access an old Skype account of mine. I haven't used it in years, but its important for me to get onto it as i need to contact an old friend about an important issue and I no longer have their email or Skype name. the thing is my old password isn't working and the old email address to the account was deleted a long time ago. How can i go about resetting my password, I had never bought Skype credit with that account also. Is there a way I can reset the password?

For every post in this thread, the answer is the same: the only way to recover access to an old account is to contact Skype Customer Service directly. You will need to be able to prove and/or verify your identity and that you are the rightful "owner" of the account in question.
This would be the same whether you have access to the e-mail address that was "registered" as the contact e-mail address on the account, or not; you must contact Skype Customer Service.

As you know you must contact Customer Service, skip past Step 2 of the instruction and proceed to Step 3, Continue Support Request (the "button" appears at the lower right corner of the website page). - G4pilut's advice stands and is absolutely correct!
- Also, credit can not be transferred from one account to another; once you have restored access to the old account, you could contact Customer Service to request a refund of the credit.
- Yes, the old account will continue to be seen on anyone's contact list where that account name had been added. All your friends would need to do is remove the old account from their contact lists.

Using Old AT Style Northgate Keyboard with Mac mini

I have just switched to Mac from Windows and I am having trouble figuring out how to use my favorite keyboard. It's a Northgate Omni Key 102 At style keyboard without a "windows" key and I don't know how to access Command, or Option with it. Is there any work around that will allow me to use this keyboard? I hope so because it is like an old friend and I would hate to have to retire it.

I'm sorry. Having been a Mac user for over ten years, but never having used a Northgate Omni thingie, I can't tell you how to make an apple/command or option key.
But I can tell you how to find out what the Mac thinks the keyboard is saying to it.
Go to System Preferences>International
Click on the "Character Palette" and "Keyboard Viewer" checkboxes.
At the bottom of the window, click on the "Show input menu in menu bar" checkbox.
On the menu bar you should now see a flag corresponding to your standard national keyboard (Stars & Stripes for US, Union Flag for GB, Tricolour for French and so on). Click on this, and on the menu you'll see "Show Keyboard Viewer". This gives a tiny floating palette which is an image of the keyboard. The character generated from each key is shown on the keyboard, and this changes as you press the modifier keys (command, option. control, shift and fn on laptops) singly or in combination. Look for the symbol of a square with a circle on each corner (ought to be on the bottom row next to or near the space bar. That's the Command or Apple key.
In the same way, the Option or Alt key is shown on the Keyboard Viewer as a symbol of a lower-case Y lying on its side (approximately). Similarly again, the Control key shows up as a giant circumflex accent, and so on.

Is there now no concept of the old Friends and Family where you nominated some landline numbers, a mobile number and an international number to get discounted calls?
I'm happy to be told this was discontinued (probably years ago), but if not where are they listed?

I've just changed my call package to unlimited anytime friends and family mobile. Do I need to add friends and family numbers to benefit from this package? I can't see any way to do it through the BT website so I presume I don't need to do anything more. Is this correct?

I think the new service is slightly different to the old friends and family.
Freinds and family mobile is a discount on all uk mobile calls, it means any mobile call you make will be charged at 7p per minute.
the friends and family internation is a similar deal but on international instead of mobile calls.
