• Difference Between Raw Material and Inventory Account

Hi Experts,
can you pls explain me the difference between raw material account and inventory account opened under Asset Drawer in Chart Of Account ??

Hi Divya.......
               There is no difference between raw material and inventory account. Infact the raw material is nothing but stock and stock includes the finished semifinished product also. In short the stock account belongs to the category inventory account.......

• Difference between Cost Center and GL Account

Hi All,
I want to know that "what is the difference between Cost Center and GL Account."
Regards

Hi Vidya,
Few points:
1. GL is a FI object and used for external reporting, whereas cost centers are CO objects and used for internal management reporting.
2. In GL you classify the nature of expenses like telephone expenses, travelling Exp. Salary exp etc., whereas by cost center you decide where are expenses were incurred, like Production department, Mkt. Department, HR department etc.
3. You post the FI transactions at GL level whereas the cost center are assigned to those GL account for getting the more detailed information about the expenses.
4. GL accounts are P&L and BS account and only P&L expenses accounts are posted to cost cneters. And you can choose to post it by cost center or not by defining the GL as cost element. If you do not define any GL as cost element, it will not post to cost centers.
I hope it answers your question.
thanks,

• What's the difference between the Admin and Root accounts in Mac OS X?

Does anyone know what the difference is between the Admin account and Root user option on Snow Leopard?
I've read on Network Security forums that I should have two accounts on my Macs (I'm the owner and only user), 1 for Admin controls / access and another for general use.  I was under the impression that I only needed one account, and even though it was specified as an "Admin" account I didn't really need to worry about it as I would still need to go into Directory Utility and "Enable Root User" to really allow a program to gain access / control of my Mac.
Can somebody please clear this up for me?
Thanks in advance
L Rembrandt

Root can do anything, without further authentication.  There is only one root account and it is disabled by default.
An admin user can do many things without further authentication, but can become root by authenticating with his own password.  There can be any number of admin users.
A standard (non-admin) user can only modify the contents of his own home folder, but can become and do admin and even root tasks by authenticating with an administrator's username and password, if he knows it.
Most security professionals recommend running with the fewest privileges as are necessary, elevating to the higher privilege only when needed, and returning to the lower privilege when the higher one is no longer needed.
Apple recommends running as a non-admin user all the time.  It is the best for security, and is convenient too, since nearly all admin and root tasks can be done from a non-admin account, simply by authenticating with an admin username/password when prompted.  I do admin and root tasks from my non-admin account all the time this way.  My admin account almost never gets used; it has been months since I actually logged in to it.
If you are not already using a non-admin account, it's easy to switch:  Just create a new account with admin privileges, and then remove admin privileges from your own account.

• What is the difference between the drop and create the index and rebuild index ?

Hi All,
what is the difference between drop and create index & rebuild index ? i think both are same...Please clarify if both are same or any difference...
Thanks in Advance,
rup

Both are same. Rebuilding an index drops and re-creates the index.

• Difference between Submit Button and Button

Hi,
Please help me understanding the difference bewteen the following cases.
1) Submit Button + ActionType : None
2) Submit Button + Action Type :fire partial action
3) Submit Button + Action Type : Fire Action
4) Button + Action Type : fireAction
5) Button + Action Type : firePartialAction
My Understanding is 1st and 4th Both submits the form.
Also, please let me know, is it a valid scenario where we use the SubmitButton and still gives ActionType. What difference it makes when action type is given with submit button.
I understand that when we use 4th then it submits the form and whereas in case of 5th it doesnt.
Thanks in advance
Saurabh Agrawal

Hi,
Thanks for your replies.
Actually i wanted to understand this in context of the issue we are facing.
We have a text field and a button besides it. We have a TAB OUT even associated with the text field which is captured using firePartialAction event. Also, the button is a SUBMIT BUTTON with a partialFireAction associated with it.
1) When you give % in textfield and tab out a popups come and load the data in a table - WORKS FINE
2) When you dont enter anything in textfiled and clicks on the button, same popups comes and loads data into the table. - WORKS FINE
3) When you give % in Text Field and clicks on the BUTTON, from JDEV, we verified that TAB OUT event gets triggered.Once that event is over, we can see the HOUR GLASS which doesnt go away. --- ISSUE
Resolution Tested : When i just remove ACTIONTYPE from button and do NAVIGATION - 3, issue is resolved.
Also, if i make that button as BUTTON and give FIRE ACTION, issue is resolved.
Now the main concern is the same combination SUBMIT BUTTON and ACTIONTYPE: firePartialAction works fine in 11i and causes issue in R12.
Please let me know your comments.
Thanks in advance

• What's the difference between splitting events and creating an event?

With photos selected in an event, "splitting" the event and "creating a new event" appear to do the same thing. Is there any difference? In either case, a new event is created with the selected photos taken out of the original event.
doug

Doug:
Auto split will split up the event into events based on the date requirement that's been set for events, i.e. 1 day per ever, 1 week ,etc. It's automatic. Whereas creating a new event you determine which photos go into that event.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

• Difference between list.clear() and new instance

In the below code,
List<String> test = new ArrayList<String)();
list.add("one");
list.add("two");
list.add("three");
list.clear();
(or)
list = new ArrayList<String)();
list.add("four");
list.add("five");
What is the difference between List.clear() and creating new instance for list?

1. Use code tags to post codes --
CODE
will display asCODEOr click the CODE button and paste your code between the {code} tags that appear.
2. Invoking clear() sets all the elements of the ArrayList to null and resets the size to 0.    public void clear() {
         modCount++;
         // Let gc do its work
         for (int i = 0; i < size; i++)
             elementData[i] = null;
         size = 0;
        }(modCount is used to detect concurrent modification and throw an Exception when needed)
Constructing a new ArrayList creates a new, different, empty ArrayList.
In many situations they might be equivalent, but not in a case where you have two or more variable references to the same ArrayList. Example (watch out for typos)ArrayList<String> stringsA = new ArrayList<String>();
ArrayList<String> stringsB = stringsA;
: // add elements to stringsA
: // stringsB refers to the same populated list
stringsA.clear(); // stringsB refers to the clear()ed list
: // add elements to stringsA again
stringsA = new ArrayList<String>(); // stringsB still refers to the populated listdb

• Difference between Business area and profit center accounting

Hi Frnds,
Can any body explain about difference between business area and profit center accounting .

Hi
Business area will have many profit centers. For example Vehicle is a business area in a company. Vehicle can be cars and Bikes etc. Here Vehicle is business area and Cars and Bike are profit centers. In broad Vehicle is a profit center. But as it has sub areas those are profit centers. So profit centers cannot be replaced with business area and vice versa. We can replace business area by Profit centre, only condition is that it should be in same controlling area. The business area is more like a business unit of a company. You can have multiple profit centers within a business area.
Main distinguish factor is that distribution and assessment in possible in profit center but not in business area.
One more distinction is that Business area need not be attached to any organisation structure. But profit centres can be created only under the controlling area. Business area can be across controlling area.
Business area concept is used for making stragic decisions by the management whereas the primary purpose of profit centre accounting is responsibility accounting.

But you can always change that in System Preferences->Sharing
And yes, the first account you set up will be an administrator.

• Difference Between Database Schema and Database User Account ??

First i would like to know what an Oracle Database schema exactly is ?

Later the exact "Difference Between Database Schema and Database User Account".
I googled about it but i'm unable to find out it's The difference,
Please try to explain in a simple manner........
Thank you very Much in Advance..........

user13655582 wrote:
Greate example. but i would like add one more point..
a user is a schema and schema is a user. but when this applies to the user that he become a schema, only if he has got some objects. so we can say while creating the user which dosent contain any objects called simple user account but afterwords when he has got an objects then we can say its a schema as the above user has shown you through the exampleIt is just word-play. There is nothing in like a 'status' indicator to say "USER_A is just a user but USER_B has become a schema". Many people use the terms "user" and "schema" interchangeably, and some very good DBAs will insist this is correct. I don't disagree with them even though I usually try to make the distinction.
In a typical application, all of the objects (tables, procedures, etc) that implement the app will be owned by a "application schema owner" - a user which exists for the sole purpose of owning the schema. Said user will have no privileges at all .. especially not CREATE SESSION. Except for possible maintenance activity no one ever actually connects as this user. User accounts are then given to actual humans who connect with their own accounts. The accounts have the necessary system and object privileges granted to them - via a role. One could also create a special account (let's call it APP_ADMIN) that is used for maintenance and batch operations within the application.

• Difference in Amount between BI Report and GL Account

Hi,
Regarding the difference between BI report and GL,
We found duplicated records in the data source 0FI_GL_4.
(The difference was in an another account which did not match with the GL.)
1.Account: 123456
      G/L Balance: $430,382.41
      BI Report:     $432,211.10

Acct doc. 1900000902 item#2   $13,960.50
What could be the cause of this? How can I solve this issue?
Thanks

Hi,
Since I already know where and what the duplicate amounts are in the PSA, Can I do the following:
1. Delete the Amounts (and change them to 0) in the PSA
2. Delete that particular load from the Cube
3. Now that the duplicate amounts dont exist in the PSA, Re-Load it back to the Cube using DTP
Would this work? Is this even possible?
Thanks

• Difference of balance between Sub Accounting and General Accounting !?

Hi,
i have a difference between the sub and the general accounting, the correct balance is in the general accounting.
When i show the balance of the sub accounting with the Tcode FK10N i find that the difference comes from the last year, there is a balance of 10.000 Euro that is already cleared but it is still apearing in FK10N and in other Tcodes of sub accounting.
Please how can i solve that ?
Regards.

F.07 is the Balance Carry Forward; it copies the suppliers (and customers) balances from one year to the next one (tables LFC1, LFC3, KNC1, KNC3).
You should check that the opening balance of one year is the same as the closing balance of previous year. If it is not true, F.07 should repair the data in the tables.

• Create Accounting in invoice and Create accounting in payment terms?

hi,
I want to know the difference between create accounting in invoice and create accounting in payment terms and is it compulsory to validate and create accounting in invoice before making payments ?
Regards
Sudharshan

If the accounting method is accrual, then invoice accounting will be Item Expense/Charge -> Liability.
And payment accounting will be Liability -> Cash (it is different if you have reconciliation also)
An invoice has to be validated to get accounted or to get paid.
Payment just need a validated invoice, not an accounted invoice.
But Payment accounting can be done only after the invoice is accounted.
