R12 - Install, Patch and Maintain. Is It Necessary?

We are planning to go to R12 soon...is this class necessary given the fact that I went to the same class for R11? Are there enough changes to warrant taking this course? Everyone, let me know your thoughts...

I would say save the money and go for another course instead. There are no much changes when it comes to the installation and applying patches between 11i and R12, and you could refer to these links for the topics which are covered by the two courses.

hi,
I took the "11i Install, patch and maintain Oracle Applicaiton" course from oracle university about couple of years ago and now we are already on release 12.0.6. I want to attempt 1Z0-238 which is actually a R12 certificaftion exam. Question is; Can i attemp 1Z0-238 a release 12 exam with a course taken from previous release.
I dont want to be in situation where oracle will say either take the R12 course or re attemp an 11i exam..... :(

How can I do to install Patch and RDBMS using SILENT mode in a Pentium 4 ?

I was installing the Oracle 8.1.6.0.0 in remote machines using a SILENT mode normally. But now, I`m having a problem with the Pentium 4. I need to apply a patch because of the bug number 1507768. And, after apply the patch, I don't get to install using the same response file (in a SILENT mode). How can I do to install the patch and the RDBMS using a SILENT mode in a Pentium 4?

After the deployment - patching and maintaining EJBs

Even the best EJB has a couple of little bugs that need fixing.
What methods have people found for maintaining an existing deployed system? Any good references on the matter?

Great links, but a little off of what what I was looking for - I wasn't precise enough in my original description:
After I create my EJB and package it up, it will be deployed at a customer site. Sooner or later, the customer will probably find some sort of bug. What I'd like to know: how is the community at large dealing with post deployment patching and modification.
There's two issues involved, really:
1) The packaging of the .ear file to make it easy to modify (one very large ear vs several ears)
2) The process that needs to place at the customer site. Ideally, the customer would just run a little InstallAnywhere application, and Poof! The system is patched while up.

Install Leopard and maintain POPFile, Anacron

I am interested in upgrading to Leopard. I have a few custom things going on with my Tiger install. I run POPFile for email filtering. I had to install some Perl modules, and make a startup script. Additionally, I have installed Anacron for Mac OS 10.4 to run the daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance scripts. What is the best way to proceed? If I buy Leopard and install, will this setup continue to run? Or do I need to do some other kind of install? Do I need to remove Anacron? Any thoughts here?

Expanding on what Templeton said, since Leopard has not been released, we cannot say with certainty what will and won't be possible. But it's not been possible in the past to install a full new version of Mac OS X through Apple Remote Desktop, and I'd be very surprised if that became possible with Leopard.

Just FYI, the terms of the family pack only cover systems that are "located in the same household and used by persons who occupy that same household" (quoted from Apple's terms). The family pack license will not cover a system that is kept elsewhere, even if that system is owned by a close relative unless that relative is a student member of your family who still resides at your home but is away at school.

11i to R12 upgrade : Unable to merge patch 9179588:R12.AD.B with 9477107:R12.AD.B and patch 7461070:R12.AD.B.1

As per readme for Patch 9179588, I am trying to merge patch (9179588:R12.AD.B) with 9477107:R12.AD.B and R12.AD.B.1
(patch 7461070). When I run admrgpch without -admode option, admrgpch completes successfully.
However, when I just add -admode option in same command, getting error that "invalid option -s". Please see below details and suggest since there is Note: This merge should be a full merge using -admode.

Actually, I tried that one as well by running admrgpch from newly installed R12 code tree and I got below error.

Is it mandatory to install patch 124861-15 for Applications R12

In pre-requisites it is says to install 124861-15 patch for Solaris R12.1.1
By the way we are upgrading from 11.5.10.2 to R12.1.3 with 11gR2
But for some reason out OS admin is not ablt to install. And he reckons that if we have sun studio 12, it should be enough.
Could any one please let me know if it is mandatory to install 124861-15, or can i just leave to sun studio 12.

SSRS 2008 R2 is extremely slow. The query runs in less than a second in the dataset designer but if you try to view the report it takes over 10 minutes. I have read this is a bug in SSRS 2008 R2. We installed the most recent patches and service packs.

According to your description that when you view the report it is extremely slow in SSRS 2008 R2 but it is very fast when execute the query in dataset designer, right?
I have tested on my local environment and can‘t reproduce the issue. Obviously, it is the performance issue, rendering performance can be affected by a combination of factors that include hardware, number of concurrent users accessing reports, the amount
of data in a report, design of the report, and output format. If you have parameters in your report which contains many values in the list, the bad performance as you mentioned is an known issue on 2008 R2 and already have the hotfix:

Any issue after applying the update, I recommend you that submit a feedback at https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/
If you don’t have, you can do some action to improve the performance when designing the report. Because how you create and update reports affects how fast the report renders.
Actually, the Report Server ExecutionLog2 view contains reports performance data. You could make use of below query to see where the report processing time is being spent:
After you determine whether the delay time is in data retrieval, report processing, or report rendering:

11.2.0.3.0 Required Postinstallation Tasks: Downloading and Installing Patches

I installed 11.2.0.3.0 on AIX 7.1. The postinstallation tasks begin with downloading and installing patches. I am not sure which patches or PSU to install. Following the directions in the installation guide, I go to My Oracle Support, then to Patches and Updates and specify Oracle Database and IBM AIX 64-bit. For "release" do I select 11.2.0.3.0, or do I select the seven releases from 11.2.0.3.0 - 11.2.0.3.6? If I select all seven the search returns 1293 patches. The instructions are obviously not telling me to download and apply all 1293 patches. I next searched for the most recent PSU and see that PSU 11.2.0.3.6 was published on April 17, 2013. What is the right thing to apply? Should I download only PSU 11.2.0.3.6 and apply that, or should I do something else not described here?

You should apply the latest 11.2.0.3 PSU (currently 11.2.0.3.6) - you do not have to apply all of the one-off patches
