R12 Instance Top

Hi:
I know Instance Top has all configuration files and log files in R12. Would you please explain how does it work in one db and two apps tiers environment? How about cloning and patching? I really appreciated your help because i have an interview coming up.

Key benefit of Instance Home is that as AutoConfig no longer writes to the APPL_TOP or ORACLE_HOME directories, both of these can be made into read-only file systems if required.
All configuration files created by AutoConfig are stored under the Instance Home.
Other benefits include support for read-only file systems and centralization of log files

Hi,
IN R12 instance discoverer reports we find following option at top-left side of the screen
- Rerun query
- Save as
- Revert to saved
- Export
....etc
Is it possible to remove 'Save as' option? If yes, please suggest how can it be done.

Hi Kamath
The whole of the Viewer interface is customizable, meaning you turn off / on the features you want to see made available to your users. Thus, if you don't want your users to be able to Export you can turn it off.
Rod has commented that the only way you can stop a user from saving a workbook is to turn off that privilege in the Admin edition. This is absolutely correct. Just turning off or disabling the Save and Save As buttons inside Viewer will stop stop a user from saving. What it will stop is the casual saving but if a report has been modified when the user goes to exit they will be asked if they want to save, even with the Save and Save As button disabled. Thus, you do need to remove the privilege.
As for altering the look and feel of Viewer, not only can you decide which buttons to activate / deactivate, but you can also change the base fonts, color scheme and even add your corporate logo. I have been to many organizations who have changed Viewer to have the look and feel of their corporate website.

Resource details are not getting displayed in gantt chart -- R12 instance

Hi All,
we are working on a scenarior in R12 instance.
when we run a resource constraint plan and navigate to Gantt chart the complete application is getting hanged and it is not Displaying any resource details.
Before 2 days we were able to view the Gantt chart and resource details were populating properly.
Resource Avalability and usage is correct.

In R12 Gantt chart is enhanced to show resource gantt in 3 different view. Res units view,resource hours view and res availability view.
Please do the following and see if it works.
On work bench go to Tools , preferences > set gantt chart preferences. even if u want to leave them as default, uncheck something save., and check again and save.

Is it possible to use the same OSSO/OID for multiple R11 and R12 instances?

Hello guru's,
We have multiple R11and R12 instances that should be configured for Oracle SSO 10.1.4.3. For OID, we are still trying to decide between OID 10.1.4.3, or OID 11g. OAM is not an option because we also also need OSSO integration with Siteminder. We will also need to SSO-enable Discoverer an Forms.
I have successfully configured SSO for a single-instance EBS R12, but not for multiple instances, let alone include R11 and other components into the mix.
Do you have any special tips, guidance or lessons learned when SSO-enabling multiple instances into the same SSO/OID?

Interestingly, the article talks about using the same SSO/OID for EBS, JD Edwards, Peoplesoft multiple R11 instances, but did not mention 'multiple EBS versions'. Am I just being picky or there was a reason for it not being mentioned?In Steven Chan blog (in the same link), see the following:

How to clen up the R12 Instance in Windows 2003 server.

We have two R12 instances running on the same server (vision and Development).
and want to scrap Vision instance.
Please explain me how to uninstall the R12 Application instance.
The Note 107523.1: How to Clean Up a Failed Install of Oracle Applications 11.5 on an NT Platform.
But it deletes the entire instances running on the same server.

Please remove the 3 non-exists DC from environment using the metadata clean-up process using script from below article. then manually delete the records from DNS management console as given below.

Manual steps to clear the records.
Dnsmgmt.msc [Dns Management]
A.Expand the forward lookup zones\_msdcs folder
i. Make sure only the actual domain controllers are listed, delete wrong Alias recordsremove wrong name server records
ii. Select the container [forward lookup zones\_msdcs.domain.com\dc\_sites_\sitename\_tcp] > delete incorrect _ldap and _kerberos records are listed.
iii. Select the container [forward lookup zones\_msdcs.domain.com\dc\_tcp] and delete incorrect _ldap and _kerberos records
iv. Expand the [forward lookup zones\_msdcs.domain.com\domains\guid\_tcp] and delete incorrect _ldap entries
v. Select [forward lookup zones\_msdcs.domain.com\gc] – delete incorrect HostA records
vi. Expand the [forward lookup zones\_msdcs.domain.com\gc\_sites\sitename\_tcp] – delete incorrect _ldap entries
vii.Select the [forward lookup zones\_msdcs.domain.com\gc\_tcp] – delete incorrect _ldap entries
viii. Select the [forward lookup zones\_msdcs.domain.com\pdc\_tcp] – delete incorrect _ldap entries

A.Expand the [Sites\Sitename\Servers] – delete incorrect server’s
B.Delete incorrect subnet configurations [Sites\Subnets]
C.Delete incorrect site links [Sites\IP]
· Make sure the domain controllers are pointing to the correct dns servers in tcp\ip settings.
· Force replication – ‘repadmin /syncall’

How to reset TimeZone in oracle apps R12 instance?

I need to reset TimeZone in Oracle Apps R12 instance. When i ran Oracle Diagnostics,Java system properties report,i found that user.timezone=GMT-03:00.This is the reason showing time on Oracle Application Manager is wrong.
I need to reset to GMT+03:00, how do i reset the timezone?

Yes, the date is set properly at the OS level.
TimeZone values are as follows:

Issue with XML report printing on R12 instance

Hi,
I'm facing issue with printing xml reports on R12 instance and followed the note (How To Print XML Publisher PDF Reports Via The Concurrent Manager:metalink id:338990.1) and configured the pasta printer,still printer output is showing the junk charcters.
Please let me know how to resolve the issue?.

We are on 12.1.1 / 11g with AL32UTF8 character set, we have custom reports developed in BI publisher and some some migrated reported from earlier version.
Both BI publisher based custom like PO/Invoice/Cheque Print & seeded reports like "Active users/responsibilites" are being generated successfuly in pdf output. when copied to desktop and printed it prints properly. But when trying to direct output to printer from concurrent request it is printng junk.
I checked pasta configuration, all required ghostscripts tools are on the AIX box, am I missing anything in R12?

How to sinck data between production and R12 instance

I am working on Oracle Apps up-gradation project.
Now I have upgrade 11.5.7 to R12 (12.0.4) successfully. I started up-gradation task with 1 May of production data (backup) on new machine.
Client wants to live R12 from 1/August/2009.
Please suggest how to sinck data between production and R12 instance.

Hi,
It is not possible to do what you propose (sync data from an 11.5.7 system to a 12.0.4 system). You will need to re-run the upgrade against the August 1 data, following your original upgrade procedures.

but im not able to connect to R12 instance.
do i need to do some settings or do i need to install any new version.

Hi,
Are you sure you are trying to make an apps connection? Try with a : (colon) after the username.

Oracle EBS R12 comes with JRE so you are not supposed to download any Jinitator version. If you already have one installed, please uninstall it (via Control Panel > Add/Remove Software) and check then.

I strongly suggest that you reconsider your architecture. If you have a single-node system (apps and database on one server), and you're really thinking about opening that server up to access from the Internet, you're exposing your organization to serious risk.
Much better to deploy a second apps tier server in a DMZ than it would be to move your current server to the DMZ. The increased cost of ownership (additional hardware and slightly more complex architecture) is minimal compared to the risks incurred by putting your database in the DMZ.

Rman can be used for Database, not for Application tier. Again, I assumed you are looking for a script to backup the database. For the application tier, you can simply do a filesystem backup.
I still do not understand your concern? Is it about using crontab? If so, then check here --> man crontab <--

R12 Instance Checkup

Recently I was given a R12 instance and asked to verify whether everything has been working perfectly without any problems and to submit a report...I was told that the instance was recently upgraded from 12.0.4 to 12.1.3 and I verified it...the db is 11.1.07...I did a few tests and they were fine but I want to make a complete check of everything including its health and also to report any issues...Could someone help me in providing the complete set of tasks to be performed in a detailed and step by step manner...All suggestions and ideas are welcome...Thanks...
