R12 Upgrade and Instance Consolidation

Hi,
We have 11.5.10 HRMS on IBM AIX and 11.5.10 Financials on Sun Solaris servers.The plan is to Upgrade the Applications to R12 and consolidate the instances into a single Instances.
Please share your experiences if first we need to upgrade the applications to R12 and then do the Instance Consolidation or do the Instance Consolidation on 11.5.10 and then do the upgrade.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of both the approaches.
Please share your experiences if someone has worked on similar projects.
Regards,
VN

  • 11i to R12 upgrade and Maintenance Wizard and the Maintenance Wizard Forum

    MetaLink doc 215527.1 recommends using the Maintenance Wizard to upgrade from 11i to R12.
    The Maintenance Wizard is extolled elsewhere in this Forum to replace the Upgrade Spreadsheet.
    And it is referenced a couple times in the 11i forum.
    But that's not much press considering Oracle's description below.
    Also, all the Maintenance Wizard MetaLink docs below reference a Maintenance Wizard forum.
    The forum contains excellent feedback including how to use Maintenance Wizard within a firewall.
    LCM: Maintenance Wizard
    But the Maintenance Wizard forum was Archived ~two weeks ago.
    Some clarification would sure be useful.
    What I'm actually trying to confirm is exactly what OAS or iAS or OC4J to use with it.
    Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!
    From 215527.1:
    Oracle Support provides Maintenance Wizard to guide you through the upgrade of Oracle Applications technology stack and products from Release 11i versions to Release 12. It draws on instructions from numerous manuals and other documentation to provide you with a complete picture of the activities required for an upgrade.
    Maintenance Wizard helps you to reduce upgrade tasks by dynamically filtering the necessary steps based on criteria it obtains from your Applications environment. The resulting report is a set of step-by-step instructions of exactly what you need to do to complete your specific upgrade, including any critical patches that your system may require. It can also automatically execute many of the tasks for you, so as to reduce the possibility of errors or accidental omission of vital tasks.

    I will provide an update here once I find out how to get the situation corrected.
    In the meantime, please use the other support channels (this forum, FAQ, iTAR's, etc.) for Maintenance Wizard questions and problems.

    PS - To answer Tom's imbedded question (What I'm actually trying to confirm is exactly what OAS or iAS or OC4J to use with it.), please look at the Installation Guide (note 329476.1). In step 2 of the prerequisites, it states:
    Maintenance Wizard version 2.x requires Oracle RDBMS 10g (10.2.0) with 10g iAS (10.1.3).

  • 11i-R12 upgrade and MOS 954704.1 (pre-upgrade

    I am performing the 11.5.10.2 -> R12.1.1 Upgrade using the Maint Wizard (v2.19) on Linux x86.
    I am at this step:
    Cat - Upg to Rel 12.1.1
    ProdFamily - Perform the Upgrade
    Task - Apply Preinstall Patches
    Step - Check for critical pre-upgrade patches for Financials
    Action - Follows MOS note 954704.1 to apply pre-upgrade patches
    I would like to know whether I need to use any special options/parameters to adpatch when applying these R12 patches.
    Thanks

    I don't understand. I haven't applied ANY R12 patches (except OAS 10.1.2.3) yet since I am still at a "pre-upgrade" step.
    So the R12 patch cannot be in AD_BUGS.
    The R12.AD.A.delta.4 patch is 6510214. Don't I need to know whether it is in the Rapid Install upgrade driver u6678700.drv?Sorry, I thought you are asking how to find if it is applied or not later after the upgrade.
    Just follow the same logic we did with Patch 6856840, search MOS for (R12.AD.A.DELTA.4, Patch 6510214) and you will get the list of patches that includes this patch (according to MOS website, I can see that this patch is only included in R12.AD.A.DELTA.6).

  • R12 Upgrade- lookup types?

    Hi gurus- I am in the middle of an R12 upgrade and doing mapping. I see references in custom code to the table FND_LOOKUP_TYPE_USAGES. This does not exist in R12. Where does this data map to now? Is there an equivalent quick code table?

  • SQL Server Virtulization,UPgrade and Consolidation..

    Hi Everyone ,
      I am working on Project to Visualize SQL Environment and with this project I am also planning to SQL Upgrade and Consolidate SQL Server as well as Database. I like to know
    1) When Consolidate Servers whats should be best approach to keep it. During Phase-1 we have 5 Prod SQL 2005  Servers. to consolidate into one or two servers what things should keep in mind
    2) For above SQL 2005 Prod serves Database all together is 159 GB . /How TO consolidate Database also?
    3) how to decide CPU ,Memory will required for each new sql Instance or to allocate. ( It is going to full Virtual)
    I ran MAP tool kit also doing analysis from reports so far couldn't find starting point for consolidate Server/Database .
    Also we have lot outside vendor applications so it will be good practice to put their DB on shared server?
    Any other consideration or Information are welcome.
    Thanks you

    Hello,
    1) I will try to mix write-intensive databases with read-intensive databases.
    2) Make sure the storage can handle the IOPS required by all the databases. Determine if the nature of workload on the storage will
    be random or sequential.
    3) Examine any historical data about CPU and memory usage of existing servers to estimate resources required for the new server. If
    the new consolidated services are virtual servers, you can always add CPU and memory resources. If the new consolidated servers are physical, make sure you can add CPUs and RAM if needed, and perform the consolidation server by server verifying the new server
    is able to handle the workload.

  • R12 Upgrade: ra_territories, ar_location_rates, ar_location_values table Absoluted and if yes then what are the replacement tables?

    Hi,
    We are in the R12 Upgrade process and having doubt in ra_territories, ar_location_rates, ar_location_values tables.
    Please clarify are they got absolutes or we have replacement tables for these?
    Regards,
    Uday

    Hi,
    I see you are confused between using ra_interface_lines_all and API. The AR Invoice can be created in two method.
    1. Using Autoinvoice interface a open interface program. For this you need to populate ra_interface_lines_all and ra_interface_distributions_all (if you are not using auto accounting) interface tables and then submit the Autoinvoice Master program, a interface program to load the AR invoices. Once the program completes, the errors will be stored in ra_interface_errors_all table.
    2. Second method is to use the API. If you are using API, no interface table will be used to and errors will not be stored in interface tables. You can use the following routine to get the errors.
    IF l_return_status != 'S' THEN
    dbms_output.put_line('unexpected errors found!');
    IF p_msg_count = 1 Then
    dbms_output.put_line('l_msg_data '||l_msg_data);
    ELSIF l_msg_count > 1 Then
    LOOP
    p_count := p_count+1;
    p_msg_data := FND_MSG_PUB.Get(FND_MSG_PUB.G_NEXT,FND_API.G_FALSE);
    IF p_msg_data is NULL Then
    EXIT;
    END IF;
    dbms_output.put_line('Message' || p_count ||'.'||l_msg_data);
    END LOOP;
    END IF;
    ELSE
    dbms_output.put_line(' Got Created Sucessfully : '||l_customer_trx_id);
    END IF;

  • 11i to R12 Upgrade -  Adoption Rate

    Is there any publicly available information on the number of existing 11i customers that have upgraded to R12?
    The management at my company was told (by an Oracle rep) that the R12 adoption rate is pretty low. Because of this information our management is considering putting our R12 project on hold until next year. I would like to provide them with some real data that they can use as they are making their decision.
    It would be helpful to know the following:
    1.) Number of new R12 customers
    2.) Number of 11i customers who have upgraded to R12
    3.) Number of 11i customers who are in the process of upgrading to R12
    Please let me know if this information is available.
    Thanks.

    There is no publicly available information about the number of existing 11i customers that have upgraded to R12 because it is just too many customers to manage and organizations upgrade and go live many times without telling Oracle because the implementation has gone so smoothly.
    Having said that, I do track many of our customers who have approval from their management to publicly tell their upgrade story. Here is just a small sample of these customers who have upgraded and gone live on Release 12 and Release 12.1. • Issue with Hebrew Reports after R12 Upgrade

    Hello All,
                We have upgraded our instance from 11.5.10.2 to R12.1.3.
    After upgrade we notice that a couple of reports have inverted question marks instead of Hebrew charecters. The report has both English & Hebrew charecters but the issue is only with the Hebrew ones).
    DB is on 11.2.0.3
    Charecter set is UTF8.
    On application Tier :  NLS_LANG=American_America.UTF8
    And as per the general configuration, we have updated the IX_PRINTING appropriately under env.
    (IX_PRINTING=$FND_TOP/resource/ixlib.cfg)
    Any related information on the above will be of great help.
    Thanks,

  • Hybrid Tablespace model after R12 upgrade

    Hello,
    I have done with the upgrade process from 11.5.9 CU2 to R 12.1.1 successfully, the instance is up and running. However, after checking the DB objects, I found that the old tablesapces have alot of DB objects. as shown below. Can I rerun the OATM tool now and do the migration?

  • Upgrade 10.1.3.4 to 10.1.3.5 before running the R12 upgrade driver.

    Hi Everyone,
    Is it OK to upgrade the 10.1.3.4 OH to 10.1.3.5 after we install the R12.1.1 file system but before running the R12.1.1 upgrade driver, so that we could complete the techstack related steps before the actual downtime to save time during the actual upgrade?

    ThanksYou cannot upgrade 10.1.3.x ORACLE_HOME after you lay down R12 software and before the actual upgrade since your instance should be on R12 to apply the patches in (Upgrading to the Latest OracleAS 10g 10.1.3.x Patch Set in Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 [ID 454811.1]). So, upgrade to 12.1.1/12.1.3 then upgrade the 10.1.3 ORACLE_HOME to the latest patchset (10.1.3.5).

  • R12 upgrade testing

    Hi all,
    We have upgraded from 11.5.10.2 to  R12 (12.1.3) on linux platform (rhel 4.6 to 6.2)
    Can any one suggest what testing(technical) we have to go through after the R12 upgrade has been done.
    Thanks

    In addition to what you can find in the upgrade manual Oracle E-Business Suite Upgrade Guide the list of sanity check question would include something like the following:
    - Create/Update users/responsibilities/functions/menus
    - Submit different types of concurrent programs
    - Ensure CM and Workflow is working as expected
    - Verify OPMN components and log files
    - Verify your custom tops (if any exists)
    .. etc
    You should come up with your own list when you upgrade your test instance and verify the same for production upgrade.
    You may Google "R12 Upgrade Lesson Learned" and/or "R12 Post Technical Upgrade" and you should get many hits.
    Thanks,

    On the server, there aint any error related to NFS.
    Any help ?

    Hi Murali,
    We have a 11.5.10.2 instance with 10.2.0.5 database and we are Planning to upgrade the database to 11.2.0.3 during our upgrade R12.1.1, as per the note 761570.1, we have the Patch C and Path D available to us. We have decided to use the path C i.e upgrade the database to 11.2.0.3 during the R12 upgrade itself and no two downtime windows. As per this note 761570.1, in path c If the database upgrade is part of the R12 upgrade, perform all the steps in the Interoperabity Notes except the following steps:
    Verify software versions
    Run adgrants.sql
    Implement and run Autoconfig
    Re-create grants and synonyms
    Restart Applications server processes
    Apply Oracle Human Resources (HRMS) patch 7721754
    so does that mean we don't have to apply any patches mentioned under Verify software versions like Interoperability patch , ATG Patch 7456837 etc.. on 11i ?
    If you are planning to upgrade the database in the same downtime window of R12 upgrade, then you do not need to apply the patches under "verify software versions" section in the 11i doc. However, you need to consider applying the patches under the same section in (Interoperability Notes EBS R12 with Database 11gR2 [ID 1058763.1]). Those patches should be applied before you release the R12 instance to the users.
    Thanks,
    Hussein

    Any suggestion.

    Hi Srini,
    Let me walk you through briefly regarding the upgrade process:
    Initially the existing instance was 11.5.10.2 with 9.2.0.6 database.Last year the database was upgraded to 11.2.0.1 and configured with 11.5.10.2
    However the 11g database upgrade steps specifically for EBS 11i(interoperatibility notes for 11i with 11g database) was not followed properly.
    And one of the major key issue identified was the 11g Example CD was not installed on top of 11g software during database upgrade.Which is the pre-req for 11g upgrade in EBS
    And as per my experience it creates issues during R12 upgrade (patch u6678700) and giving errors pertaining to oracle text error.
    SR was raised for the same and was suggested, since there is no other option kindly install the Oracle 11g software and on top of that 11g Example CD and map the 11g database and go ahead with the R12 upgrade.
    Now coming back to the core issue being faced, Pre-req followed properly.No errors in alert logs.
    Can missing the Example CD installtion be the issue?

    Aman Vats

    It is not clear in the documents and patch readme if I need to apply patches to 11i APPL_TOP or newly created R12 file system. Can somebody help me?
    Thanks.

    Which document says I need to apply only database driver? So far I have reviewed upgrade guide Part No. E14010-01.In the Same upgrade guide part NO:E14010-01 check the page no:73 it given as follows:
    Under Section 3 "Upgrading to Release 12.1.1"
    10. Run the American English upgrade patch driver (required)
    Applies to 11i release level: All
    TUMS step key: N/A
    To bring your database to the full Oracle Applications Release 12.1.1 level, use AutoPatch to run the (American English) unified driver (u6678700.drv). It is located in $AU_TOP/patch/115/driver.
    Run the driver on the administration server node on your Release 12.1.1 APPL_TOP
    using the following commands:
    $ adpatch options=nocopyportion,nogenerateportion
    Do I need to start database in new R12 file system.Yes. All the steps mentioned under Section 3.9 onwards need to perform in the new 12.1 Oracle _home
