R1800 from Aperture - discrepancies in settings causing "media errors"

After upgrade to SL i have been having some issues with printing to R1800 - i consistently get "media errors" when trying to print edge to edge on some media types.
Aperture and the epson print drivers do not seem to play together well... in most cases when you modify the default paper to say 4*6 sheet feed no border it switches to roll paper feed which in my case is always empty - hence the error messages about out of media...
You can see the incorrect setting once you have set all your prefs in the print dialog when you go back to the print settings dropdown (under printer selection on my window) and select print settings... for certain paper selections (in my case) A4/sheet/borderless + 6*6/Sheet/borderless all end up with "roll paper borderless" which means i get the "media error".
Can anyone else confirm this issue, and if so is there any clue as to whether this is an Aperture issue or an Epson driver issue.

Can anyone else confirm this issue.
I have been able to print edge to edge on 4*6 and A4 from Photoshop and iPhoto so i suspect this is an issue with Aperture.

  • IWeb Photo Captioning from Aperture Metadata

I'm not sure if this should be under iWeb or Aperture. I use Aperture 2.1 and iWeb '08 2.0.3. In iWeb I have albums of photos from Aperture. When using the media browser for adding Aperture photos into iWeb, the standard nomenclature is for the iWeb caption to use the Aperture 'Version Name'. Since iWeb can be set to have more than one caption line, I was wondering if there was a way to map Aperture metadata into the multiple lines of iWeb photo captions? As it is, any additional iWeb caption lines have to be added manually. Can this additional caption information be added automatically?

I'm banging my head on this too.. I prefer to use iWeb for several reasons: one is that I publish to a non-Apple webhost; and I prefer the editing capabilities of iWeb vs Aperture/iPhoto -- plus the templates are more varied.
It's hard to believe that Apple doesn't provide this extremely basic capability. I've noticed other threads on this & it doesn't seem that it's possible.

  • Photos from aperture into FCPX

I'm trying to use the media window built into FCPX to take photos from my aperture library into FCPX.
    Not working.
All I can muster up through the media window in FCPX is 29 rather random images, most from my iPhone. I've got thousands of pictures that aren't being recognized.
For example: Ruidoso April 2014 is a project I have 429 pictures in. Only one will show in the FCPX browser. I can see projects, photos, faces, ...facebook...projects, etc. I can see the basic structure of aperture and options that make sense, but only 29 total photos are showing.
Odd thing, while composing this message, FCPX crashed for some odd reason. When I reopened it, the project I'm working on "Ruidoso April 2014" now has 13 still images in the libraries frame on the top left from my icloud photostream.
so I guess I have two questions:
#1 - how can I get photos from Aperture into FCPX using the media browser (or is this not a good option?)?
#2 - any idea why images from photostream popped randomly into the event I'm working on?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

  • What is the best settings to use in the export manager when exporting from Aperture 3.5 to Photoshop cc.  tiff? psd? 16bit? dpi?

What are the best settings to use in the export manager when exporting from Aperture 3.5 to Photoshop cc for editing?
Should I use tiff or psd?
    8bit or 16bit?
    How many dpi?

That will depend on the photometric resolution of your originals. For jpegs it would be a waste of space to convert them to a higher resolution than 8bit, but if your images actually have already more than 8bit, you will want to preserve this quality. Then he 16bit format will help to prevent color clipping.
Both tiff and psd will preserve the lossless workflow. With Photoshop as external editor I would use he psd format for better support of layers and transparency, e.g., when you want to create watermark files.
The dpi will only matter, when you export the file for printing.

  • How do I print images from Aperture to the Canon MG6150?

I have recently installed (i think correctly) a Canon MG6150 printer on my iMac but am having difficulty making it work correctly when photo printing (the wireless connection seems OK).  When printing from Aperture I can cause a print to be made but the printer prints very quickly and the colour balance is incorrect (it's too pale and not saturated).  I think maybe this is due to the wrong paper selection but i can find no way via the Aperture menu of selecting the paper type being used.  According to my 1:1 trainer i should see a "Quality and Media" sub menu in Aperture when i print and from there i can select paper type etc.  However this "Quality and Media" sub menu is not present on my machine when printing from Aperture.  As an alternative i've tried printing from the Canon Easy Photo Print EX utility but each time i try this i have to go through a lengthy process of identifying my region and country before reaching the select images screen.  Once there i am unable to find my Aperture files and hence cannot select any images, nor go onto the next stage which seems to be selecting the paper type.  All this would be very arduous to use (lots of keystrokes) - am i missiing something?
Also when installing my Canon software from the supplied disc i was referred to the Canon website which said that there were driver updates coming along to sort out some bugs associated with Lion OS (which i'm using).  As i understand it these new drivers are not available until sometime during October and hence i haven't been able to download any as yet.
Any help greatfully appreciated as i'm fast running out of hair.   Thanks a lot.

The same way you would export to any file system:
Connect the flash drive and once it is mounted you can export to it in the regular manner.

  • I can't roundtrip from Aperture 3.3.2 to Photoshop!

    Hi,
I am having significant problems with Aperture and Photoshop interaction. As a working professional photographer it is a serious issue that is causing me real stress and it is commercially important that I rectify it quickly.
After extensive testing I am unsure as to the root cause of this problem, different things point towards different causes, however at this stage I am unsure as to wether this is being caused by an Aperture software issue, a Photoshop software issue or indeed a hardware problem.
Mindful of this, I am sending this email to Apple, Adobe, the NAPP help desk, Aperture Expert forum in the hope that somebody can resolve this issue.
    THE PROBLEM
When I try and roundtrip images from Aperture v3.3.2 to Photoshop CS6, Aperture prepares the files as tiffs (8 bit) as per the export settings in my preferences dialog box. I can see them being duplicated in the Aperture window but when Photoshop opens only 1 image is available, the others whilst sitting in Aperture are not shown in Photoshop CS6?
I have run the same round tripping process with images sent from Lightroom 4 and they DO all appear in Photoshop? This does point towards an Aperture problem rather that Photoshop.
I have tried the same process using Photoshop CS5 from Aperture 3.3.2 and the situation is the same.
Thinking that it could be a hardware issue or old preference files etc, I did a completely clean install of OSX Mountain Lion, Aperture 3.3.2 and Photoshop CS6 and still all is the same. Additionally I tested the problem on different hardware (MacBook Air) and the problem is replicated there?
There was a time in recent months before the introduction of Aperture 3.3.2 and Mountain Lion that this problem did not occur and the process did work on both bits of hardware that they are being produced on now...
I have trawled painfully through all my preferences in Aperture and Photoshop to see if this is a simple setting issue but to date cannot identify one.
I have posted the problem on the web in various forums and can only find a very small handful of people having this issue, it doesn't seem to be widespread.
Please can you help me to rectify this significant issue. I am  a professional trying to get work done and this problem is increasing my workflow exponentially.
    Best regards
    Richard

Another user changed Aperture to read Aperture 3. Of course if did not update as the app needs to be named simply Aperture. BUT, when he changed it back to Aperture, he was able to update.
Maybe there is an invisible character in there like a space or something.
If that doesn't work I would contact the App Store Support.

  • Export from Aperture to edit in Windows Live Photo Gallery

    Hi.
I'm hoping to work collaboratively with a colleague, in a scenario where I take & edit photos, then pass them over for a possible final touch up before being forwarded to clients.
I use Mac OSX 10.6 and Aperture. He uses Windows Vista and Windows Live Photo Gallery.
The problem we've come up against is this: he is unable to edit the image I've exported from Aperture. I'm exporting as .JPG, and he's able to read them ok - i.e. load it into Windows Live Photo Gallery, but not alter the image.
Does anyone have a similar workflow, exporting from Aperture, then editing in Windows Live Photo Gallery?
    Thanks in advance,
    PB

    Hi Frank.
    Thanks for the response.
Agreed, the pertinent question is why can't my colleague edit the JPG exported by Aperture. It's probably also worth pointing out, the same problem occurs with JPGs exported from iPhoto.
The Windows software usually plays nicely with JPGs by all acounts, just not the ones I send - which I do via eMail or my public space on Mobile Me incidently.
So, another key question is: all settings being equal (color profile, quality, etc.) are the JPGs as produced by iPhoto and Aperture indistinguishable from those produced by other apps on other platforms - i.e. does the use of JPG enforce a common standard?
If that is the case, I suspect ours might be a permissions issue.
According to the Microsoft support page on editing in Windows Live Photo Gallery, the inability to edit a picture is commonly caused by unsupported file type, or read-only attribute set on the file.
Unfortunately, he and I are not in the same place, and he's not particularly au-fait with this type of problem solving. Hence, before involving him, I'd like to know:
    1. it's possible (i.e. someone else does it), and,
    2. what's involved (at my end and/or his).
    Thanks again,
    PB

  • After upgrade to IOS8 can't import photos from Aperture

I upgraded to IOS8, reset my iPad to factory settings and reinstalled all my apps from scratch.
When go into iTunes and I select to import photos from Aperture on my Mac it hangs.
I have an old iPhoto library on my Mac and if I select photos from that it works.
I have switched off everything to do with iCloud after seeing some posts that this might be causing the problem, but not a solution for me.
(I have over 28,000 photos in my Aperture library).

Did you turn on iCloud Photo Library? I suspect it may remove the ability to sync photos and videos between Macs and iOS devices.

  • Photos in FCE; export from Aperture in target size?

    hi all.
I'm planning to place photos from Aperture into my FCE project, with the photos fading from one to the next. they won't be full screen, less than half. to get the best final quality, do I need to sharpen and export from Aperture so that the photos are placed within the FCE project at 100% without scaling?
    cheers,

    >> but when Photoshop opens only 1 image is available,
That means that Aperture only sent 1 image file to Photoshop.
Photoshop accepts multiple files via command line arguments or Apple Events (or COM on Windows).
If there is a setting, it would have to be in Aperture.

  • Going back/away from aperture

i have this problem with importing DNGs with all my settings (see my other post).
that made me think, what if in a year or two i decide to migrate away from aperture to another software (lightroom, captureone, unknown)?
is it possible to export your files/adjustment/settings and import them in another application?
i don't seem to be able to do it, as of now.
also, how do you make IVMP to read aperture adjustments? not keywords, image adjustments.
    thanks,
    @lberto

I'm not sure how helpful this will be Alberto, as your needs for metadata probably overshadow mine. Plus I have a RAW supported camera: key issue!!!
Prior to Aperture, I used PS CS2/ACR/Bridge combo. I set date/time in camera and diligently changed for time zones.
Import from CF card to "Unprocessed" folder under project/event under location under year folder structure
Rename in Finder using "Renamer4Mac" utility
    Save to DVD
Select in Bridge, open a select into ACR and save as PSD to "Part Processed" folder
Continue (hand notes for images processed I've done ... ugh) [BTW, comments/notes in Aperture has been requested by some folks and its a great idea in my mind]
Open each image in CS2 and adjust/crop/save ... as different versions for different print or crops. Save to "Processed" folder
    Burn folder to DVD
    Post-process in Pages, InDesign ...
With Aperture .... BTW: I do not generate Previews until I've completed the project
    Copy CF card to disk
    Burn DVD
Import from disk to new Project: name files using import naming options (I tend to use custom). Add Copyright and keywords (I tend to add a superset and then remove ad hoc later). Set auto-stack time to make as much sense as possible (adjust discrepancies manually later). Then import.
    First pass:
Scan images sequentially and reject, or mark as 1*, 3*, 5*. Note that Aperture caches the next/last images so this speeds up image "Loading" times considerably.
    Adjust any stack membership
    Second pass:
Adjust RAW settings ad hoc (for shadowy or very bright or shiny surface images I use different RAW presets)
Adjust for any exposure, levels, shadow/highlight, WB etc.
    Adjust straighten then dust
    Create different crop versions
Amend * ratings up/down and esp. for crop preferences
Alter keywords (delete or add additional if necessary)
Output to external editor (around 2% images) for filters or blemishes above/beyond spot/patch
    Set stack pick
Once this pass is complete, I generate full res. JPG's
    Back up to Vault
From that point I'm into post-process, and I'm doing the majority of that from Aperture direct into Pages and iWeb or from Aperture itself.
Except for panoramas, where I export TIF's to Calico, and re-import the new image, then manually stack with the original images, I hardly move out of Aperture. My use of CS2 has dropped from 100% to a couple of %, and those tend to be for soft filter actions applied to unmask, liquify filter or occasionally I'll use Nik plug-in's or clone stamp and healing brushes with pen sensitivity.
As I said up front, I'm not sure how useful this will be. I didn't feel a need for PhotoMechanic or iView, and my level of pain with Bridge/ACR/CS2 was easy for me to leave .... even Aperture 1.0 with less than ideal hardware was a significant productivity gain.
Working between Aperture and other apps. is likely to be tiresome. Working within Aperture becomes really smoooooth.
So, unless you absolutely must have can't live without the world will end some function of these, consider how you could make do with Aperture's nearest equivalent. Give a negative score to Aperture though. If a function is required, then can you export to/import from at a point in an Aperture centric workflow? If so, score as a negative to Aperture. (If you cannot see how to interface to Aperture, ask. If the answers still no, then you know.) Then, score the things that Aperture gives you as a benefit. If your tally is net positive (and I trust that it will), or a net negative, you've answered your question.

  • Downsized images when imported from Aperture

The latest batch if images I imported into iPhoto from Aperture were somehow downsized to half the size, ie from 3888x2592 to 1944x1296.  In other words, cut in half.  This has never happened before.  Previously, the iPhoto image had the same dimensions as the image in Aperture.  Would this have something to do with Lion?  I need images with over 3000 pixels on at least one side to sell them.  Thanks.  Larryt

How did you "import into iPhoto from Aperture"?
If you're using the media browser (File -> Show Aperture Library) then what you're getting are you Aperture Previews. The size of these is set in your Aperture Preferences.
If you exported from Aperture then the export preset you used in Aperture is what defines the size of the image.
So, no, this has nothing to do with Lion and only to do with the settings you are using in Aperture.
I can't help but wonder though, why you are using iPhoto at all, if you use Aperture. Is this complexity necessary?

  • Import .mov from aperture to FCPX

    Hi,
I'm currently using Aperture & Final Cut Pro X (latest versions)
I am storing all movies (.mov h264) Full HD within Aperture. They are stored in various events and files are managed by aperture and stored within the aperture library.
My question is: What is the best way to work with these aperture movie files within Final Cut Pro and how do I best import them into FCPX.
In the past I have exported from Aperture into a folder on the HDD and then imported via FCP to work with the files. I've always used the original media import option within FCPX.
I've notice I can also drag from aperture direct into FCPX and also import via the media browser. How does that compare to what I have been doing.
What's the best option to get work with these files inot FCPX and what's the best import options.
Also, I'm still confussed (no matter how much I read) about original and proxy media. I think I should stick with original as proxy seems to decrease image quality when exporting (in mp4 or mov format HD).
If I do use the media browser or used a referenced file. Should I copy the file to FCP folder or keep where it is. If I keep where it is does it alter the original file when I make changes within FCPX.
Sorry for the questions, they are confussing reading it back. I've tried to search and read a lot about it but not really getting what I need out of it.
Basically - whats the best way to edit .mov file located in Aperture while in FCPX. Do I need to import, copy to FCPX folder and what settings do I use.

I'm in the same boat, just beginning to work with Final Cut Pro X with many movie files in Aperture.
With some movie files, it works fine to merely drag from the FCPX Photos browser into an event. But for some older movie files, FCPX says there's no movie file there. (All of these play fine in Aperture.) I think this is because the files are referenced movies and FCPX needs self-contained movies.
Here are two ways to deal with this, in my experience:
    This is the simplest:
    1. Select the file in Aperture and choose File > Export Original.
    2. Import into FCPX
(You can't use the Edit in External Editor command, and there's no option to export a movie directly to FCPX, but you might be able to automate this process with Keyboard Maestro or Automator.)
    Another method:
    1. Drag the movie from Aperture to the Desktop.
    2. Open the movie in QuickTime Player 7 Pro. (QuickTime Player X won't work.)
    3. Save As Self-contained movie.
    4. Import to FCPX.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D3380Z/A/quicktime-7-pro-for-mac-os-x
    File size example:
In Aperture, the file is listed as 11 MB.
After dragging to the desktop, the file is 4K. After exporting original from Aperture, the file is 11MB.
QuickTime Player X shows the dragged file as 4K and shows only a black screen, though it acts as if the movie is playing.
FCPX also shows the dragged file as 4K.
QuickTime Player 7 Pro very briefly puts up a dialog "Searching for movie data in file "DSCN1234.MOV" then opens the file fine. (I don't know if this will work with the basic QTP 7 without the Pro registration.)
After saving as self-contained movie, the file size is 11 MB.
It's odd that Aperture can handle these files and FCPX can't. I've posted an enhancement request to Apple.

Ok, so I;ve noticed that when I import using the media browser (photo icon) - Inititally these files are refrenced back to apeture libary, however once transcoded it puts it onto PRORES format and puts a file that's about 1000% bigger (120mb original for 1min file to 1gb) I'm left with a "optimised" media folder with the 1gb file and original media folder with the 120mb file.
