You can already run a bunch of FP languages on the JVM and they have decent support for directly calling Java code and using Java libs.
Personally I am happy with plain, old boring Java.

If you established a rescue email address, there will be a link on the "Passwords & Security" page of id.apple.com. Clicking the link will send the reset to your rescue email address (NOTE: This is not the same address as your Apple ID email)
If there is no link on the page, then you didn't establish a rescue email address. Contact AppleCare at 800.694.7466, and ask for account security. You will need to answer some questions to verify your identity, AND you will need access to a computer to generate a temporary support pin.

Apple apparently removed the Week Cal HD app from the App Store becuase it is too similar to the build in calendar app. I loved that app and am really annoyed that Apple removes an app I paid for, thus making it impossible for the developer to post an update that would allow it to work under OS5. I just posted this email below to their support but would love to hear what others are thinking about this issue and hopefully enough people raise their voice to get apple to allow the app back into the store. Here is my email to customer support. I will post also any reply I get Apple:

I have purchased Week Cal HD a while back via the App Store. This app stopped working after I upgraded to OS5 and I have been waiting for a new version that supports it. Since no update was posted until now I contacted the developer and have been informed that Apple has removed the app from the app store, claiming it has too many similarities with the build in calendar application.
I find this very unfortunate as the app as a few key features the build in calender application doesn't have (ability to set first day of the week to Monday, better looking UI). I actually find it deeply troubeling that Apple decides to effectively take away an app a customer has purchased through Apple. I find the argument that it has been removed because it is too similar to the build in calendar highly disingenious as a) this was already the case when Apple first sold it through the app store and b) it doesn't harm Apple's business as the build in calendar app is an OS feature and not a separate revenue stream. So what if it is similar? It does something the build in software doesn't and I paid to access this software knowing that it is a product that provides similar funcitonality. Quiet frankly I loved Week Cal HD because of these subtle differences and I cringe every time I now have to use the build in calendar (I find it unbelieveable that a company with the design ethos of Apple, that is capable of developing such stunning modern hardware, creates a calendar app that is so inflexible and has a UI that is in such bad taste - do you really think I want a simulated paper feel on my futuristic IPad?).
I very much encourage you to allow the sale of Week Cal HD through the App store again or provide me with a reason why Apple decided to effectively take away a software I paid for?

And i think with further digging you will discover that the developer has had a revised app for many many months ready but its been blocked by apple. Also these similar features that are causing the fuss first existed on week cal hd, not the other way around, sovthis is just usual apple style, and its a bigger shame that they could not even exucute it properly, instead we are stuck withva calendar that cant be used for business unless all you want to do is keep track of birthdays and your lunch breaks .... -
What's your take on FP-OO languages converging?
I am aware this is a bit off topic, but since it still has to do with Java progamming, it's not entirely bad.
Anyway, I've recently been introduced to the features that C# 3.0 and VB.Net 9.0 brought in (lambda expressions, immutable anonymous types etc), and I couldn't help but notice they were very much tuned to bring .Net languages closer to functional programming. Atop of that, LINQ (which I must say is brilliant) heavily depends on these, so they're not there just to accomodate the trend or something similar.
Now (to get back to the forum topic), I've been developing in Java for years without much exposure to other platforms and languages, so all this bringing OO languages closer to functional paradigm was quite new to me, especially since we do not see this happening to Java. I've also been reading that Java 7 will not bring this type of change, even though it was initialy expected.
I know there's already been enough discussion on should Java 7 have X and Y so I'm not going into that. I just wish to know what other Java developers think of the afore mentioned trend, and how they perceive the stand that Java is taking.
Do you think functional programming belongs to jRuby and not Java, or are you a proponent of this convergency?
I am not trying to reopen old discussions or start a new yet pointelss one, I'm just trying to gain a little bit more insight into this issue. Also, my opinnion on this has changed lately, so even if this thread touches some old topics, it may be that things have changed since then.

What is your take on "Camino".
I use Safari and have Firefox. Was thinking of taking Camino out for a spin. Is there a difference between Camino and Firefox? I know Camino is made specifically for OSX, but other than that, is it superior to Firefox?

The 3 main differences I can think of between Camino and Firefox:
- Camino does not support the plug-in architecture of Firefox
- Camino integrates with the Mac keychain (so user/password details you may have saved with Safari should work out of the box with Camino)
- Camino has the look and feel of a 'real' OS X application.
Both are excellent browsers. I use Camino 90%+ of the time - it just feels a bit more 'snappy' to me compared to Safari and Firefox. -
Firewire is dead. But what do you think about this idea?
I know that the firewire port is saudered onto the logic board on my computer and I use to use it all the time but I was connecting my 12" powerbook to a powermac G4 through target disk mode and I accidently plugged in the firewire end in the powermac upside down. I had the other end alreay plugged into my powerbook and since then I got my firewire port has been unresponsive. I also got the ozone smell of death which made me wonder if the smell is the computer chip that controls the throughput of the firewire port or the actual firewire port itself? Because I use to use firewire a lot and so I am very sad to see something that I did, kill the port.
I had 2 hard drives and dv camcorder and my ipod and of course a firewire hub so I could plug it all in simultaneously. So what I am willing to do is take apart the computer and try to sauder on a new firewire port but now we are back to my original question, is it the port or computer chip. One thing I do know is that my ipod will still get charged even when its directly connected to the computer but nothing will mount.
If anybody has an input on my dilemma please feel free to add to this.

I had coffe all over my 12" powerbook and was forced to resolder much of it to get back my ethernet, firewire and usb. Here is what you'll need to care about when you decide to open the machine:
The keyboard assembly is held by 4 screws, 2 of whose are hidden under function keys F1/F2 and F11/F12. Remove caps by gently lifting up their LEFT side.
Heatpipe assembly must be removed too. I managed overtighten one of screws, and part of it which is soldered to the mainboard got loose. Don't do that.
Almost everything else must be removed, which involves many different screw lengths. Keeping track of them somehow helps later when you put everything together.
Don't start the machine with any components (such as hard drive or screen) disconnected. Hardware identification takes ages to perform and will confuse you, because machine appears to be dead most of the time.
Soldering: Use antistatic iron, lead-free tip and solder. Residue-free flux-pen helps a lot. Almost everything you'll find onboard is SMD, which means that removing components with improper tools or using force will damage the board.
Using camera to document how components were placed before you remove them gets handy later.

when i try to activate itunes on my iphone it continues to say "We're sorry, we are unable to continue with your activation at this time." and now my phone has stuck. what happened?

I found an article from Apple that specifically outlines how to try and troubleshoot this issue. It's called iPhone: Troubleshooting activation issues found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3424.
Resolution
Perform the following steps if you receive one of the messages above:
Restart the iPhone.
Try another means of reaching the activation server and attempt to activate.
Try connecting to Wi-Fi if you're unable to activate using a cellular data connection.
Try connecting to iTunes if you're unable to activate using Wi-Fi.
Restore the iPhone.
If you receive an alert message when you attempt to activate your iPhone, try to place the iPhone in recovery mode and perform a restore. If you're still unable to complete the setup assistant due to an activation error, contact Applefor assistance.

99.9% of the time, the cause of this issue is the fact the phone was jailbroken/hacked to unlock it for use on networks other than the network the phone was originally locked to. Apple maintains a database of officially unlocked iPhones, and when Apple's servers detect phones such as yours, activation stops & you get the message you got.
So, either get a sim card from the carrier your phone was originally locked to, or get it officially unlocked, because it appears that it was not officially unlocked. -

That's almost always because the phone was hacked to illegally unlock it.

AT&T are unlock my phone, official!!!1) Check your iTunes account.
2) you have to be at your computer. Apple is very smart, the place you put your I'd or password is not near data base.
3) make sure your ID and Password is correct. When type on the phone, if you don't check you might press the wrong key some time cases where people have long Neil.
4) go to apple website n reset the I'd or password. -

Hmm, well... iTunes trys to activate your iPod using the Apple server to make sure you have bought it legit.
Two things come into my mind:
1) Your iTunes can't access the internet.
2) Apples activation servers are down.
That's just my cents, maybe anyone else has an idea.
