R3.0 Release and PUSH Capabilities

It has been several months since I jumped on this discussion grp... so this may have already been addressed? If memory serves me, the new (free) R3.0 release was to provide 3G (2nd gen) users a form of "PUSH" technology which was to accommodate some app store app's PUSH functionality (ie My Weather-Mobile), as well as MMS and snd'g pix via MMS now? Correct me if I am wrong on that...
If correct, I was informed by My Weather Mobile team that they were waiting for AT&T to make this available over their network... and I seem to recall APPLE indicating that the delay for snd'g pix on MMS was also an AT&T network delay. Can somebody bring me up to speed on whether this is truly an AT&T issue, or if it is APPLE? I just got off the phone with AT&T tech support on drop-call issues and asked them about this, and they claim that it is an APPLE delay...? Thanks

You're talking about two separate issues. Push notifications are available for 3rd party apps (a feature of 3.0) - IM apps, AP news, etc., make use of them. An app must be specifically written to use Apple's Push Notification servers. I don't see that My Weather Mobile supports Push notifications at all - so, if you're expecting them to, any delay is on their end, not Apple (and AT&T has nothing to do with Push notifications, other than carrying the data just like email or web browsing).
MMS is also a feature of iPhone OS 3.0, but that one requires cell carrier support. Carriers in many countries worldwide support MMS for the iPhone, but AT&T currently does not. They have stated they will support MMS on the iPhone in "late Summer" - summer ends on September 22nd.

Note: Any bug reports are best on the bug tracker. I occasionally lose track of bugs reported via the forum, or they just get mixed into other issues.

The release beta cycle wasn't working well for netcfg. Small changes, bugs and many FR's got held up far too long while other work happened. To try and help get netcfg development going smoothly again I've uploaded some netcfg git PKGBUILDs to the AUR to use instead of -beta releases.
This way I can make those small changes, push it to git, and it can be tested immediately, while larger things can be safely done in another branch locally. When it's ready, rc's will be released.

There's some fairly substantial changes in this release.
- Moving from net-tools to iproute
- iproute is the way forward. net-tools is long unmaintained, nor as capable.
- Moving from wireless_tools to pure wpa_supplicant
- More reliable, less quirks required. Hopefully more stable.
- As part of this, wireless moves into netcfg-wireless (dependency issues)
Both of these require config changes. Once they're both stabilised I can release 2.2.x to give people time to migrate, and eventually 2.5 which will use them by default. There are example configs included.

The wpa_supplicant move needs a significant amount of testing. I havn't tested WEP (testing hardware is gone), and net-auto may not work presently. WPA and custom WPA configs work in my testing.
If there's any criticisms or comments about the way this is going, the code, netcfg, etc, please let me know. I'd like to make 2.2 a good release and I think these changes are important. I'm hoping they'll make netcfg simpler and more reliable.

So today I tried netcfg-git with netcfg-wireless-git.
My old config is still working as expected but I'm not sure you're very interested in that
I wanted to try the new wireless-dbus stuff but failed. To be honest, as a simple user (read no coding skills, rather minimal understanding of networks), I wished I could find some more documentation about this new version.
Don't misunderstand me, I find your examples + wiki pages very good additions but for the first time since I'm using netcfg, with the new changes, I have to say I was very confused. We have the wireless-dbus-wpa file, the wireless-dbus-wpa-config file, wpa_supplicant.conf. First thought was: ok, profile+config file+wpa_supplicant.conf, sounds fine, but then I saw many parameters being repeated across the different files, I began to wonder if wireless-dbus-wpa and wireless-dbus-wpa-config were related or 2 different methods. Anyway, no big deal, I edited them all.
Then I saw the move to iproute, but all the examples for wpa use dhcp whereas I'd like to use a static ip. I tried my old settings, I tried to use the settings in ethernet-iproute, not really knowing if what i was doing was even supported or supposed to work.
I'd really like to help with testing and my post may sound dumb but that's what happened. In my opinion, I think that a single example config file with _all_ the options possible would great and more straight forward (+ a mini, even temporary man page).
Finally,the results were:

When I select a netflix movie on my iPad and push it to my apple TV, why doesn't the Apple TV take over the streaming, so that I can then use my iPad for other things?

From what I can tell, when I select the movie and hit the airplay button to move it to the apple TV, my iPad is still doing all the work of streaming the movie. Why can't the apple TV take over the heavy work at this point? I'd like to be able to use my iPad as more of a remote with an awesome interface for the apple TV. The netflix app on iPad is great, and the easiest way to browse movies, and pushing them to the apple TV is fantastic, but once the movie starts, I want to use my iPad for other things!!! Can this be put on the "to do" list for devs?

Have you tried the Remote app on iPhone/iPad to control AppleTV, do searches etc? Should be easier than the remote alone and this does not involve Airplay.
Please note, only users read/comment here - your idea is quite sensible in my view (maybe have a 'Continue viewing on AppleTV' option or something. I doubt this would be high on Apple's roadmap but send them feedback here:

IOS 7.0.3 upgrade killed Facetime, iMessage and Push Notifications

Facetime, iMessage and Push Notifications were working fine on my iPhone 4.
Since I upgraded to iOS 7.0.3 Facetime and iMessages cannot be activated because of 'Network error' and every app that supports 'Push Notifications' suggest to 'Connect to iTunes to use Push Notifications' at start.
Already tried to 'Reset as new phone' and restore from iCloud without any luck.
Suggestions ?

Ever since I got the 7.0.3 update on my iPhone 4 I get the "iMessage Activation: Could not sign in. Please check your network conection and try again". I can access icloud stuff using my apple ID fine elsewhere. I received iMessages on my laptop through the Messages app but anyone else who uses Messages has their iMessage sent to my laptop and not to my phone. I used to get the messages both at the same time.
I've tried removed the locate iphone app, reset the network settings, rebooted the phone, reconnected to my wifi and synched with iTunes. Nothing has worked.
I'm getting ready to restore the phone now in hopes that doing that works. Never had a problem with updates till now and while this is annoying at least my data is intact!

I've tried everything I have read, but still no success. My iPad and all of its apps have worked perfectly since Christmas, and without doing anything differently this happened one morning!! I have tried changing the DNS, I have turned wifi off and on, I've tried connecting elsewhere, restarting my whole iPad, soft reset and hard reset. Resettled my wifi. And still NOTHING!!! My dad went away for a few months, and that's why I got my iPad, now I haven't been able to talk with him for over a week... I'm desperate people!! ;) help mee pretty please with a cherry on top!

Problems with iPod Touch- YouTube and Push Notifications

After installing iOS4 on my 64gb iPod Touch I've noticed I cannot view YouTube videos and push notifications do not work.
The YouTube app launches, however if I try to search or play a video a pop up will read "Cannot connect to YouTube". If I go to YouTube's newly redesigned mobile site they work fine.
Although all my settings are the same as they have ever been, push notifications do not work. When launching any app with push notification support it always states "Connect to iTunes to use push notifications". I've done this, but nothing works.
For the record, I've never jailbroken or in any other way altered my device. I've tried performing a hard reset with no success, as well as letting the battery drain completely and shutting off before recharging.

Downgrading is not supported by Apple.
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Manage Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Ipod Touch 2G and Push Notifications not working

Hello,
I did a full restore to firmware 3.0 on my touch 2g, wiped everything, then proceded to install some apps that support push, and they don't appear to be working. Yes, I'm testing with push enabled apps (AIM), and Push on Settings is turned on. I tried rebooting, iTunes doesn't detect any problem, everything appears OK, but no Push Notifications whatsoever.
Any help ?

ps: I can provide the Serial Number and UDID that iTunes shows for this device if necessary.

It is either a problem of the earphone jack of the iTouch or the plug of the earphones, have you tried another earphones, if the problem still there, send your iTouch for service

OSX Lion and push notifications working intermittently

Seems to work when it feels like it; any suggestions on what I can look for?
I can register a device, and pushing seems to work 50% of the time and stall the other 50%; nothing in Console ...

I am havng this same exact problem. Recently, I reinstalled my OSX Lion fresh, and also just installed CS5.5 Design Premium. I have been experiencing this same error repeatedly.
On my computer there are two separate Scratch Discs (non-partioned) and when the error first popped up, I tried switching between Scratch Discs. One at a time, even using other drives and still received the same error. I've done everything I can find suggested to no avail. All OS updates are done, CS5.5 is updated, permissions repaired, disks repaired, graphics driver current, OpenGL disabled, etc....
If we can determine a fix, it would be greatly appreciated. Photoshop is an awesome tool that I use extensively, and this is driving me insane!
BTW, here is the error I believe he is getting (same one I see way too many times a day)

IMessage and push notifications not working after installing iOS 7!!

My iMessages and push notifications don't work after installing iOS7..!!! I can't even log in to iMessages using my Apple ID.. And every time I log into Facebook or whatsapp it keeps telling me to connect to iTunes to receive push notifications..!!
I connected to iTunes on my comp and tried resetting my phone.. Nothing works!! HELP

Its stuffed, iMessage and facetime are both sitting on "waiting for activation" so they are not working, 1 post suggested resetting the phone again setting up as a new phone and then turning iMessage and Facetime on and then restoring. After the reset iMessage and Facetime started working, I did the restore and it stopped working again. Nice waste of 2 hours.

Thanks but I have tried doing the above - when I said 7 times I was modest, its more like 15 times.
And I am referring to the 5.1 software update. I dont have wifi so I guess I will have to try that seeing that my husband also has the same problem - he has also tried downloading several times. It always times out en says that the connection is lost but yet there are always an internet connection and a decent signal once it stopped. Think it said error 32052 or something!
I am disappointed because the update includes inprovement on the battery life - did you guys notice any difference?

Time zone compatability problem with timed event created on iOS and pushed to Windows7 Outlook calendar for sharing

Hi, I am in Jerusalem time zone. My Windows7 LAPTOP time zone is set to it (UTC+02:00 Jerusalem). My iPhone5 and iPad are both "Set Automatically" (ON) to Jerusalem. When I create any new event in my outlook on my Laptop it's generated with the Jerusalem time zone and pushed properly via iCloud to my iPhone and iPad. However when I create a new timed event on either my iPhone or iPad. or even in iCloud calendar (in a browser) the event is pushed to outlook on my Laptop in a "Beirut" time zone. Now that both Jerusalem and Beirut are on the same time zone (UTC + 02:00) it doesn't create any problem (though I prefer to see that the pushed events are indeed in Jerusalem time zone and not Beirut...). However, at and around day time saving change days there are problems of events created on iOS devices or even in iCloud (using browser) and pushed to outlook at the wrong times (1 hour earlier or later, depends on the change direction in Jerusalem time...) with a Beirut time stamp.
How can I resolve this problem and make sure all timed events, created on iOS devices at a Jerusalem time zone, appear as such after pushed via iCloud to my windows7 Outlook calendatr? Thanks!

I also have this issue (iPhone 5). Outlook needs to be configured properly in that timezone option needs to be selected. Which is challenging enough.
However the bigger issue for me is that when I open the ICN file:
1. I have no way to accept decline etc.
2. When the event is populating the calendar in the wrong time I can neither cut and paste nor select and move. It is totally static.
So for every meeting request I have to ensure it populates the right time as per my time zone. and if it doesnt i have to manually enter a second meeting 'X' hours earlier/later depending on which time zone the meeting was generated in.
I spoke to Apple. Their solution is make sure Outlook is properly configured. Fine...but good luck. I need a work around that is Apple based. Because this *****.
They said they would send to the development team. I am not holding my breath.

My 6th gen nano ipod stopped working. I figured it was because it was next to my sweaty body, so put it in rice. I sought help from internet and tried all of the troubleshooting steps; i.e pushing down the power button and the volume down button consecutively, plugging it in to a power source, waiting 10 minutes and pushing the buttons while it was plugged in. Nothing has worked thus far. Is there anything else that I can try?
