R3D Damaged or Unsupported File

Hi all-
I'm pretty stumped by this problem.  I have a ton of .R3D footage shot on a Scarlet.  Most of the footage imports fine into Premiere Pro CS6.0.1, but some of the files won't import.  They give me the "Damaged or Unsupported file" warning.  What is interesting is that some of the "damaged" clips are from the same card/shoot that contain other clips that play fine.  This is happening to me and 4 other editors I have been working with.  I've searched all over the internet trying to find a solution to this and have found that many RED users are running into the same thing.  Some people suggest restarting the program and trying it again, which I have done to no avail.  I've watched the clips in RED CINE-X and they play fine.
At this point I'm stumped.  Has anyone else run into this problem and found a solution?  I know I could go ahead and transcode the clips, but with about 100 clips that give this warning, I don't want to have to do that.  Is there going to be an update from Adobe that could solve this?
Thanks in advance for you help,
-Mark

  • Quicktime .movs error Premiere CC. Damaged or unsupported file type.

I'm having major problems with Quicktime .movs (anims & prores) in Premiere CC - which is making it completely unuseable.
Sometimes the files load and work but 90% of the time I get the unsupported file type error.
I've double checked the files are fine on various computers and they are, but Premiere CC refuses to work properly with them.
A project with 10 clips - each time I open a few open fine and work - but never all of them and it randomly changes which ones work and which ones are unsupported.
Any ideas would be most appreciated!

Quadro 2000 - have tried both latest official driver and the later Beta driver with no difference.

I wondered if the fact different ones load and then it stops was a memory issue.
Can you suggest the best way to encode my clips for HD Quality on Premiere CC for PC? Would it be image sequences?

  • Prores files not recognized... most of the time [message -- file '[file name].mov' cannot be imported – this 'MooV' file is damaged or unsupported.]

Running AE CC 13.2 on iMac with Yosemite 10.10.2
I just started getting an error message when trying to import any number of ProRes 422 (HQ) files.
file ‘[file name].mov’ cannot be imported – this ‘MooV’ file is damaged or unsupported.
This happens approximately 90% of the time. There have been occasions where I can open and view files of this type.
I have gone through the various troubleshooting options here:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2013/08/solutions-for-problems-with-quicktime-files-in -after-effects-cc-12-0-because-of-conflict-with-dvcprohdvideoout-quicktime-component.html
I reinstalled ProApps to no avail.
    Permissions are fine.
Creative Cloud recently updated AE over the past few days. Perhaps this incremental update fouled something up? Last weekend, things worked perfectly fine.
I have also noticed that it takes a lot longer to load AE (since using last weekend). I have used Time Machine to roll the application back to last week's version to see if that helps.
    Any insight is appreciated.

The update last week was just to Adobe Camera RAW and not really AE. It would be unlikely to cause the issues you describe. Have you tried turning your Mac all the way off and then back on again?

  • This 'MooV' file is damaged or unsupported

I know this is a common issue that is happening with a lot of people. I have mov files that show this moov file is damaged or unsupported when I try to play them on after effects. The problem is that it works when I use it on another computer at school that runs CS6. I have gone through many discussions and done what they have said including updating adobe to 11.0.2., duplicating my files and then deleting them. emptying my cache and some others. I just installed adobe on my computer. If there any other ideas that anyone has then I would appreciate it very much. Thank you.

You have a CoDec pack on your system and it's making a mess of Quicktime. Remove the CoDec pack, reinstall Quicktime.

I'm working on a AE project and shut the project down before going to lunch. I come back and open it up and I get this error:

Nothing had changed in my project since earlier today. I've tried to import other .mov's and get the same error, I've also tried to relink the footage.
    Any thoughts?

  • After effects CS6 error file cannot be imported - this 'moov' file is damaged or unsupported

    Hi there,
    I'm working in After Effects CS6 (11.0.2.11)
I imported an AAF that was exported from Avid MC 6.5.2. I colour corrected and graded the sequence using colorista 2 and magic bullet looks and some other native AE FX.
Before exporting I decided to double check something to do with the audio. I imported the same AAF into FCP 7, took a quick look, but decided nothing needed to be done. I tabbed back to AE (which was left open), and upon returning, AE started giving me all these 'damaged or unsupported' errors.
Subsequently, AE will now not import any quicktime movies - even ones I rendered out of after effects earlier in the day (these quicktimes use ProRes422 codecs, animation codecs and other lossless codecs)
I've restarted, re-exported the AAF several times using diff settings, uninstalled perian... but to no success.
Anyone got any good ideas? I've had this happen before, where AE will import an AAF and it works first time no problem. Then something happens when I re-open the project and boom... 'moov' errors. It's really odd and very annoying - esp since it now won't import other normal quicktime movies too - with the animation codec. I have quicktime 7 pro installed and quicktime X on Mountain Lion (OS 10.8.3).

I have the exact same problem on a Mac with 10.8.3 and After Effects from the Adobe CS6 MasterCollection (AE 11.0.2.11 (german)): all of a sudden I cannot import any native QuickTime-Movies (ProRes, Animation) or even movies that use e.g. H264 in a QuickTime container. Even projects that worked 2 days ago that contain QuickTime-movies will not open anymore.
This happened 2 days ago without any action from me that I can think of that could have caused this. I did not install any new codecs or plugins, nor was there anything in the apple software update.
What I tried/checked so far (to no avail):
    disks are OK,
    file permissions are OK,
    no Firewall is blocking anything,
    deleted AE-prefs,
    removed all 3rd-party plugins,
    removed all 3rd-party codecs.
Edit: I did some further poking around, and it turns out that after deleting or resetting file permissions of the folder "~/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects" AE will briefly allow you to open an existing project that contains QT-movies. If you then try to import any QT-movie you get the error message -- and after that you cannot open the project again.
This is really bad -- AE is basically unusable right now.
P.S.: The (german) error-message is this: "After Effects Fehler: Die Datei "filname.mov" kann nicht importiert werden: Datei "MooV" ist entweder beschädigt oder wird nicht unterstützt."

First, your AE needs to be updated. The current version is 12.2.1.5
If that does not fix the problem let us know.
Second question, are you using the Sony import utility? If not, give that a try. Last question, can you open the files in Premiere Pro? I hope you are not trying to cut a feature film in After Effects.

  • Adobe Premeire Pro CS4 unsupported file or damaged file psd file type

I'm using CS4 premiere. I'm trying to import a psd file of my schools logo. it is saved as a psd file. I can't import it. it gives me the error tjhat it is unsupported or damaged file. My graphics art teacher says the file isn't damaged. what can I do?

hey guys im having kind of the same problem, for
my school film and television project i am making a Halo montage. I
got my mate to capture my footage and put it on a usb, after he did that i used CS4 at school
(premiere) and it worked fine, my mate gave me his Adobe CS so i could do my assignment at
home after i installed adobe i tried to open my work so far, then it came up with the red screen with the writting on, instead of my footage. i was like wtf, ok ill start again, so i start again and try and import my footage and it comes up with the error saying unsupported files or dameaged files. Then i went to school on monday and the exact same thing happened again. My footage works i keep trying to convert it to make it work but adobe just wont let me import it, anyone no whats wrong?

  • M2t footage suddenly deemed 'damaged or unsupported'

I've been working on this project for a while now, using HDV footage captured as m2t.
I've just resumed after a two-week holiday, only to find that my aep is no longer working. When I open the project I get the following error message:
After Effects error: file 'footage.m2t' cannot be imported - this '.m2t' file is damaged or unsupported.
When I last left it, everything was working perfectly, and no file locations have changed. Running the source footage in other programs such as VLC or MPC etc poses no problem, it is only AE that suddenly won't accept it.
Anybody know what's going on? I'm running Win 7 x64.
    Cheers

If you are NOT using AE 10 or 10.5 but an earlier version, you should know that m2t files will give your AE version fits.  That would be AE CS4 or earlier.
Many people running those versions report the same thing: it was working before, but it doesn't now.
Their luck ran out, and depending on your AE version, your may have, too.  The fix is to convert the footage to a lossless codec, and don't try using AE to do it: use a different application.  I'm primarily a Mac guy, so I would make quicktime movies in the PNG codec.  If I had Final Cut Pro installed on my AE machine, I'd make ProRes 422 files.
How 'bout Windows?  Ask somebody else.

  • I have an external drive - WD My Passport FOR MAC. I want to format it to work on both mac and windows. Which format do you think I should use? Will either one cause damage to the files on the hard drive?

I have an external hard drive - WD My Passport FOR MAC. I want to format it to work on both mac and windows. I also want to be able to connect it to my TV and watch movies.
I read up and I think I am supposed to use exFAT or FAT32? I also saw MS-DOS. Which format should I should use? Will any of them cause damage to the files on the hard drive?
My little memory stick uses MS-DOS and it works on both mac and windows.
Please can you just tell me a little about each and suggest which one to use.
I know how to change it once you tell me so don't waste your time writing about changing it.

Will any of them cause damage to the files on the hard drive?
WARNING: FORMATTING A DRIVE ERASES IT COMPLETELY !!
If you need to carry large files (e.g., larger than about 4GB) back and forth, you may need ExFAT. Otherwise MS-DOS works for smaller files.
The Mac can Read, but not write Windows New Technology File System (NTFS) without an add-on program such as Paragon NTFS.

  • Open library from AFP share - Unsupported File System - Aperture 3

Testing Aperture 3 - Exported a project as a library to an AFP (10.5) share.
I then tried to reopen the library and got an error Unsupported File System ?
Is there possibly a network file system that will support Aperture 3 libraries ?

Temp solution in this thread - tested it and it works
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2330306&tstart=30
I have found an workaround for this issue. Do the following:
    First, upgrade the library to version 3 using Aperture on the computer where you have the disk containing the library; if this is not possible, copy the library on the computer running Aperture and do the update there, then copy the updated library back;
Then navigate to the network disk where you have the updated library and double-click it: a dialog box will come out saying something like <There was an error opening the database for the library "/Volumes/Media/Pictures/Aperture Library.aplibrary". The library could not be opened because the file system of the library's volume is unsupported> Click OK.
A new dialog box will appear asking "Which library do you want Aperture to use?" and a list with all libraries; among them, the library situated on the network disk. Select it and click "Choose".
Voila, after a delay depending on the speed of your network and remote disk, the library will open.
Note that this "show" will repeat each time you will start-up Aperture. Anyway, it's better than nothing. I hope that Apple will correct this soon.
And yes, I am using the Trial Version, I will buy a license only after Apple solves this issue! "

  • Fed up with "Unsupported File format" crashes!

I really like Aperture - but, I am totally fed up with only being able to edit a few photos before I get the dreaded red/brown screen and the message of 'Unsupported file format' This cannot be the case as they are all .tifs and I have just edited several OK. My whole day is now one of 'stop/start' and either quit or sometimes 'Force quit'. Then Aperture works fine for another short series of edits - before the same problem recurs. It wastes a lot of valuable editing time - and completely spoils the otherwise pleasurable experience of using Aperture!
I have made a lot of scans from original slides via a Nikon Coolscan 5000 - using Silverfast I have converted these from 48 bit to 24 bit. However, the file size is still large at 100MB - to get the best from the slides. I then import these .tifs into Aperture 2.1. I am using a MacBook Pro, 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 MB RAM. I have an external 24 inch monitor. The .tif files are on an external firewire hard drive - 500 GB LaCie. My Aperture library is in my pictures folder on my MacBook Pro.
Can someone PLEASE explain how and why I can make a series of edits fine in Aperture and then suddenly I get the red/brown screen and this unsupported file format message?
Is it a memory problem? Given that I need to edit such large files is it a problem for my (powerful) MacBook Pro? Or, is it a more general problem with Aperure 2.1?
Any advice - or solutions - PLEASE

It's a bug in Aperture 2.x with large files and/or large pixel dimensions on images (not clear which). I have submitted a bug report, as should anyone who is seeing this. You'll find quite a few threads on this if you search back. The error message is frustratingly incorrect: there is nothing whatsoever unsupported or wrong with the file format, it just leads you down some dead ends in trying to find a solution while you figure that out.
I could sometimes not even work on one image before it would do this. I went from 6GB to 10GB in my Mac Pro, and now I can pretty reliably work on two images before having to restart. So that to me smells like a memory leak or memory mismanagement of some sort is at the root of this, but who knows. We're all just waiting for each next release, hoping Apple has finally found and fixed this, because as you know they don't spend a lot of time discussing what bugs they're addressing; they just show up fixed eventually (one hopes!)
If anyone chimes in here to tell you it's your fault for working with such large images, just ignore them. There were releases of 1.5 that handled these images just fine, as Aperture should. It broke with 2.x.

  • Unsupported file type (.mov)

I am using Adobe After Effects CS4 (9...)
I am trying to create Andrew Krammer's ,,crumble" effect (http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorial/procedural_crumble/)
If you skip at 23:44 you will see that he is adding an imported .mov file.
Everytime i try to import a .mov file, i get the following error: After Effects error: Can't import file "NAME.mov": unsupported file type or extension.     ( 0::1 )
I think I have what I need: QuickTime 7.7.1 (it's the latest version I found, right from Apple's website)
(I don't know if this really helps:) When i click File>Export> QuickTime is disabled, not selectable. It says: QuickTime 7.4.1 or later required (even though i have 7.7.1)
I do not really want to convert the .mov into anything else because I saw that the .mov file (from Andrew Krammer's video) don't display the background, only the dust (in my case). Other video types DO display the black background. The files I try to import to AE work (they can be opened with QuickTime, no errors)

What is your OS? After Effects requires QuickTime. Is your AE up to date?
