R3D Playback Issues in FCP-X on Yosemite

Hi all,
Fresh install of OS-X 10.10.1, FCPX 10.1.4, Red Apple Workflow 4.2. MacPro (mid 2010). Kona LHe+. 32GB. Dual RAID-1 256GB SSD (Samsung 840 Pro). ATTO FC-81EN connected to Eonstore SAN via FibreJet. nVidia GTX680 with latest 10.10.1 drivers.
We previously had OS-X 10.9.5 installed and everything worked fine.
I've got the following issues now ...
1. On the new install R3D files after import now stutter. Have clicked the Better Performance button.
2. I can't import R3D clips into previous projects that contain R3D footage already
3. R3D file icons are "EXEC" rather than a file
Not quite sure what's going on and on the verge of down grading back to 10.9.5. Any help would be greatly appreciated in trying to figure out these performance issues.
Thanks!

It seems like something is missing from your installation, so your R3D clips are not being correctly recognized.

  • Importing/playback issues with FCP

Hopefully someone out there can help.
I have a bunch of .mov files I'm unable to get to work in FCP (5.1.4) or QT(7.4.5) I'm just getting audio and a blank screen (Black in FCP & White in QT)
    Error message in FCP:
codec not found. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card.
    Thanks,
    Gabrieal

Jon Chappell has a guide for this on his Digital Rebellion blog...it actually advises using QT 7.1.6 for your version of FCP

  • Final Cut playback issues...help please!

I've been running FCP7 on my Mac Pro for over a year now with no issues.
Recently I purchased a pair of Dell U2410 Monitors to work on, and this is when I really began to notice playback issues in FCP. Although I just started noticing it with the new monitors, I have a feeling it is related to my FCP or my graphics card. The issue ONLY happens within FCP, video plays fine once exported.
    Specs on the machine:
    Mac Pro 3,1
2 x 2.8 GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon
    10gb RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 - less than 6 months old.
Here is a link to the video playback compared to the exported QT. As you can see there is some crazy horizontal issues with the video playback. It happens with all formats and resolutions of video.
I've tried trashing prefs and reinstalling FCP with no luck. It happens all over the area of the video, not just top or bottom. Sorry I had to film it because it's not visible any other way. This happens with files playing off my main HD and external drives.
Any help is greatly appreciated, it's really a pain to edit when the playback is like this. And no, I don't have Apple Care and am too late to get it:(

Are you using one of these computer monitors in a Desktop Cinema Display mode?
If so, this is not the way to monitor your material for any QC. You need a qualified device to export a video signal to a proper monitor.
You could use one the 2410s to see what things look like if fed through a Matrox MXO2 mini.

  • Stuttering flv playback issue- need help asap

We need help asap. Have a project is due to deliver today (5/14).
We have a video to go on a dvd-rom, live action with Motion Graphics behind.
When output is done thru Projector the Motion Graphics stutter as they scroll.
    Here is more technical info:
    Stuttering flv playback issue:
Prores 422 timeline 29.97fps 1280x720 output from fcp using current settings.
Mov file is approx 7gb, plays relatively smooth on a mac pro with no raid.
Frame by frame analysis shows all frames are present with no jumps tears or skips.
Tried several output paths, programs and settings to create a smooth flv file to no avail.
We adjusted data rates from 2k, 3.5k, 4k and 8k, no luck
We adjusted keyframe rates from low to all frames, no luck.
We tried cs3 flash encoder, cs5 media encoder, squeeze ect, same results.
Playback in the flash projector seems to choke slightly no matter what we do.
Have also posted in the Director Forum.
    Any help much appreciated!

Here are a few ideas off the top of my head:
Try playing the file using a different xtra, sometimes different ones will work better.  If you have Director 11.5, there is a native flv playback xtra.
You can build a player easily in Flash using the flvPlayback component, then bring that into Director as a swf.
Once you have the video in Director, try making the member Direct To Stage (DTS).  If it is already DTS, try making it not DTS.
Make sure the video is not transparent, and nothing in Director overlaps the video... in fact, when the video is playing, nothing should be moving at all, and try to keep the amount of code that is running to a minimum.
Try lowering your video's data rate further or try using a different codec.
Using VBR (Variable Bit Rate) compression often makes the video appear to play smoother.
Try compressing the flv with different software.  FFMpeg, for example, is free and does a very good job, often better than the Flash Video Encoder that comes with Flash/Creative Suite.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 Mac Playback Issues

I've searched for similar issues, and while I found plenty of playback issues, I didn't see anything like what I'm experiencing.
    MacPro Quad-Core Xeon 2.26 x2 (8b cores)
    12 GB ram
OS 10.6.8 (can't update this due to other infrastructure)
    Nvidia GeForce GT 120
    FAST Fiber attached SAN
    Local Raid0 media drive
I know the GPU isn't compatible with the Mercury hardware acceleration.
I've been a Premiere Pro user since version 2 and have kept current through the years.  I'm happily running CS5.5 on PC's in my home office.  I recently installed the trial version of CS6 on my Mac at work to evaluate for that environment, and I'm pulling my hair out trying to get over some basic issues.  I have no problems with Media Encoder or AE.
In Premiere using preview or program (timeline), playback stops after roughly a second...  though it varies by several frames each time.  I tested this with various video files, .wav files, stills (jpeg, psd), etc.  I even tested with black video and bars generated inside Premiere.  The problem persists with all of the above...  click play, and playback stops after about a second.  Scrubbing works great...  I've tried different playback resolutions.  I'm not using any 3rd party monitoring devices or I/O cards on this machine.
I have FCP 7 installed on the same machine and have no trouble editing and playing 1080i video all day long.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

The above suggestion worked for me briefly, but the problem keeps re-occuring.
I too am using Snow Leopard 10.6.8, NVIDIA gfx card (8800) and an ATI Radeon 5500.
Premiere played back fine in Lion and Mountain Lion, but I downgraded because I have old quicktime files and Final Cut 7 projects that i need to work with so Lion is not an option for me.
Bizarre behavior if you ask me.
    Any help on this?

  • IPhoto video playback issues

Has anyone had issues after upgrading to iOS Yosemite?  In iPhoto ver 9.6 when attempting to play high-res videos taken on a gopro the video playback is very choppy.  The audio seems to be fine, but the video is quite bad.  Looking at 1920x1080 res @60 fps.  For those familiar with gopro these were taken while protune was enabled.  Never had an issue while using Maverick.
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013)
Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Graphics Intel Iris 1536 MB

    Hi lksdjfl,
Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it seems like you want to install a prior version of OS X because of choppy video playback. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.

  • Frame Rate Export-Playback Issue

    Hello,
I'm relatively new to FCP 7.
But here's the problem..I have a timeline with the following sequence settings:
    720p
    H.264
    50fps
But somehow whenever I export it in .MOV it seems to have a playback issue. All my audio gets jumbled up..it isn't synced anymore.
Doesn't seem to have a issue when I export in .3gp or in .m4v
    Can someone help?
    Thank you.

Yup...that's a problem. FCP and H.264 don't mix.  Sync issues, export issues...don't edit H.264 native in FCP, period.  If you use FCP 7 or earlier, you MUST convert your footage to an editing codec, like ProRes.  And use ProRes sequence settings.
A quick fix you can try is to go into the sequence settings, change the COMPRESSOR to ProRes 422...and render the sequence, then export.

  • QT Playback Issue

The other day I stupidly updated one of our FCP 4.5 systems to OS X 10.4.9. I quickly discovered that we lost the ability to digitize (dropped frames after about 10 seconds), and saw on the threads that alot of people are reporting problems. So I tried to take some steps back.
On a G5/Dual 2 GHz: Did an Archive & Install of OS X 10.4.2, downloaded and installed the OS X 10.4.8 Combo package, and then installed QuickTime 7.1.3 from an installer. So, this system should be back to what it was.
While we can capture just fine, any full-res Quicktime files we try and playback off of a striped RAID do not playback smoothly. It's like everything is playing back at 10 fps. Quicktimes captured BEFORE the upgrade playback fine, and all files playback fine within FCP...just not in the QT Player itself.
Any ideas out there? I'm at a loss to figure out what we need to do to fix this situation. Thanks in advance!
(P.S. We use a Blackmagic Decklink card for SDI capture, and I did re-install those drivers as well.)
    ** Cross-posted in the FCP Forum **

From another thread (I claim no credit for this):
    Hi:
Samba2007 posted that a friend solved the FCP 4.5 + OSX 10.4.9 capture issue adding the Capture Scratch folder to the Privacy of Spotlight in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4417320#4417320
OlSchoolCutter tried with SUCCESS (see post in that thread).
Then follow these stesp and try (it's free!):
    1. From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
    2. From the View menu, choose Spotlight.
    3. Click the Privacy tab to reveal the areas that Spotlight will not index.
    4. In the Finder, open your "Final Cut Pro Documents" folder.
    5. Drag the Capture Scratch folder into Spotlight's list.
Try now capturing and give a feedback . . and spread the word.
And thanks to Samba2007 for posting that !!!!!
    Good luck

  • Multicam playback issues

I have digitized a project into FCP at 8 bit instead of DV and seem to be having playback issues with the multicam. My settings are Safe Rt, Dynamic, Quarter playback frame rate, yet I am still dropping frames left and right. Is it possible that I need faster drives? I only got this system two years ago, I can't believe it won't play 8 bit. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Rob

I'm digitizing digibeta tapes and I want it as uncompressed as I can get it so I digitized it at 8 bit uncompressed. I have a 4 bay Internal SATA Array. Each one holds 465 gigabytes and I think it has a 3.0 gigabit throughput if I'm reading the specs correctly. I've done DV multicam without a problem on my system but I was hoping to have a better quality product this time so I digitized at a higher compression rate ( or is it really a lower compression rate . . . ) All the media right now is on one drive. Does that matter? This is kind of where i wish I was working on an Avid . . . .

  • IPhone 5 music playback issues (after iOS 8 upgrade)

    Hi,
After upgrading my iPhone 5 to iOS 8 I have had many playback issues with my Music. Songs randomly skipping or stopping without even doing anything are some of the issues. Also sometimes when I am listening to a song it would fast forward the music.
P.S. I don't sync my music, I just manually add content.
Is there any way I can fix this problem?
    Thanks
    L

My wife had something like this happen with her iPad. The problem was that the device had not been synced and so some file were not loaded on the device.
The way to correct the problem is to plug the device into the computer and tell it to sync.

  • Weird Playback Issue...

I have this weird playback issue with iTunes for Windows. I am using Vista and I think the cause of the problem is that I am using MacDrive to access my OS X partition. But anyways, on with the problem. So the problem is that when I play a song, the song will play for like 5 seconds and then it will just go the next song. This song will do the same thing, and so-on and so-forth. Then, during this time, my Mac formatted hard drive is unavailable while iTunes is running. In "My Computer" the drive is there, but when I try to open it, Explorer freezes. Then, when I exit iTunes, it doesn't really exit. It still shows up in the task manager and when I try to end the process, it just plain doesn't end. I have to restart my computer to gain full use of it again. After the restart I can access my Mac disks, but once I start iTunes and try to play a song, I get the same thing again. And in case thats not weird enough, I can play the MP3's in WMP fine, and they will also play in iTunes fine if I actually open them, rather than just select them from my library. If I go to file open and select a song on my Mac drive, it will play fine, but then once I try to play a song from my library, I get caught in that vicious cycle. Anyone else had this problem or anything? Thanks. Also, is there an alternative program to Mac Drive that will allow me to read HFS partitions?

Post more about your situation... what format is the video, and where are you storing the video files? i.e., on a disk other than your startup disk? The adobe install is likely not the problem... I run adobe software along side FCS on about 75 workstations, and don't see issues like you describe.
Wavy? not accurate? what are you talking about?

  • Playback Issues with multiple framerates and Blackmagic Decklink 4K Extreme

I recently swapped by AJA Kona Card for a Blackmagic Decklink 4K Extreme in order to get external monitoring in DaVinci Resolve.
I'm working in a 1080p 23.976 project that includes some 29.97 SD and HD footage. When loading this 29.97fps footage into my source footage, I periodically encounter frozen playback (The play triangle in my toolbar becomes a square symbol and remains that way). From there I am unable to playback any footage in any timeline, and requires a full system shutdown to return to normal! The problem is seemingly intermitent, with successful playback happening sometimes.
The 29.97 footage was DVCPRO, I attempted to transcode to Prores to troubleshoot. No dice. I believe it to be an issue related to the Decklink's inability to handle multiple framerates on-the-fly but wanted to submit here, too. I've also experienced intermittent sync delays on my broadcast monitor.
    Decklink Driver 10.0
    Premiere CC 7.2.1
Mac OSX 10.9.2 (same problem pre-mavericks)

    Hi Andy,
You should not have any issues with Blackmagic handling multiple formats on the fly. However, I believe the frozen playback issues your describing is related to the Desktop Video 10 driver. I suggest rolling back to 9.3.3 for the time being. Blackmagic is looking into this issue now.

  • ITunes 10.6/Quicktime 7 1080p playback issue/frame skipping

I have a playback issue with the 1080p videos on the recent version of iTunes - 10.6. I also tried playing the same videos on Quicktime where I was able to find that the videos were playing at around 20fps as opposed to their normal rate - 24fps~25fps.
I seem to barely meet the 1080p playback requirements on iTunes, but I know that I'm able to watch 1080p videos on Window Media Player(WMP) 12 without any issues. Aside from WMP, I'm able to watch 1080p videos on Youtube whenever hardware acceleration is enabled. I assume that WMP utilizes hardware acceleration as well.
The playback issue/frame skipping is probably caused by iTunes 10.6 not using hardware acceleration.

  • WINDOWS VISTA ITUNES VIDEO PLAYBACK ISSUE!!!!!! AAHHHHHHH!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!

am using a Dell XPS GEN 5 PC with Windows Vista Premium Edition as the current OS installed. I have latested up date for Itunes and QuickTime (7.1.6) Installed. I have recently bought and downloaded 3 of the Original Star Trek Tv Shows from Itunes. When I try and play one of them, they don't work. The Screen comes up, the show starts, then stops. Sometimes the sound keeps on playing, and then stops. Sometimes it just dosent even come on. I'm guessing (as a highly advanced Windows PC User) That this ia a "video/playback issue, related to a Apple/Vista Compatibility problem. I would like help solving this problem.

    hi slideaway!
my computer has a right proper meltdown, switching itself off and restarting to a "Windows has recovered from a serious error" sort of message.
good lord. are you getting any sort of blue screen? if so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:
    Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), we can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.
