R3D "Source Settings" Adjust From Timeline? ( CS6 / CS5.5 )

Wondering if there's a way to adjust the "Source Settings" for R3D clips from the timeline. It's taking a lot of time going from timeline to "Reveal In Project" to "Source Settings". I've set up the keyboard shortcut for "Source Settings" but it seems to only be working from the Project Panel and not in the actual timeline where I need to access it.
Hopefully I'm missing something here and someone can point me to an obvious solution.
Thanks.
Charles

You might want to discuss the workflow aspects with other RED users.  It sounds like you're trying to use the source settings as your primary coloring tools - while it's certainly possible, it's not necessarily the most practical approach.
Here's a couple of scenarios you might want to consider:
- base grading in CineX.  Sort through your shots, alter your color metadata in that environment.  The beauty of this is that all your color metadata changes will automatically be picked up in Premiere Pro, as it reads the same metadata saved by CineX (pick As Shot in the color settings - note that you can multiselect all your RED clips, bring up the Source Settings on one of them, and the change will be applied to all the selected clips).
- for secondary/final grades, if you're using a GPU card with the Mercury engine, try one of our native color correctors (either the 3 way, or some people prefer the RGB curves).
- alternatively, now that we have SpeedGrade, you can push out an EDL of your timeline & bounce that into SpeedGrade for your final grade.
You might want to check out this thread on the red forum, Brad has put together a number of useful tutorials around RED workflows:

  • Sound doesn't play in project or source window only from timeline

    I have Premiere Pro CS4 and a problem just started occurring.  If I click on any audio file (not a video file that has audio) in the project window and then click on the play icon in thetop left of the project window I suddenly hear my microphone sound or no sound at all.
    Then I suddenly can't play anything on the timeline.  I can scrub the timelinme and see the VU metter levels move but get no sound.  The problem will go away.  If I play with my Creative Labs XiFi volume control on the task bar sometimes the audio comes back or sometimes it just comes back on it's own.
    If I launch a clip from the project window into the source window the same issues occur.
    If I play an audio clip from the timeline or launch a clip from the timeline into the osurce window it plays fine.
    If I switch from the creative Asio driver in Premiere to the Premiere default sound none of these problems occur.
    I thought it might be related to a recent update of my sound drivers so I did a system restore to a week before the driver updates and the same problem happens.
    It's like the microphone suddenly got mapped to my audio files in the project window.  I spent almost 3 hours on with Adobe being farmed around from tech to tech only to have them tell me that they were having issues transferring the call and that I would need to call back another day.
    I have Windows Vista Ultimate SP2 with 6 GB of Ram and all the latest updates.  If I disable the microphone then the software locks up when I try to play these files.
    Can anyone make any suggestions?

    I had to install a Creative card because the onboard HD sound on my Asus P6T Deluxe motherboard would not allow me to map 5.1 channels in premiere since it did not support Asio.  I tried using an Asio program in the background that was recommended as a workaround but it was problematic.
    Is it possible that my System Restore didn't fully roll back the drivers and that the updates are still the cause of the problem?  I didn't try a complete uninstall/reinstall because I assumed the System Restore was rolling back the drivers.
    Creative has no phone number to call only a tech support email form.  What's weird is that I now notice that I can't seem to mute the microphone at all and had to unplug it.

  • From PP CS6 to Media Encoder to Encore

    Ok. I have a finished project in PP CS6.  Sequence settings are 720P, with the various media from the client at 1080, 480, 320(yeah, I know..yuck!) and PSD files.  All is scaled correctly and lookng good. I am going out to a Standard Def, NTSC DV widescreen at 720x480.  I'm on a MacPro, ML, all the latest updates, killer GPU Nvidia Quadra 4800 and plenty of RAM.
    Is it best to export from PP CS6 into Media Encoder queue and down res to Standard Def there, before going to Encore?  Or is it best to create an NTSC DV widescreen sequence within PP CS6? And being sure that is scaled correctly.  Then bring it in to AME and render as "same as source" settings?
    From there I would bring it into Encore for building the DVD(keeping same as source).
    Thanks guys, I am almost done with this project!

    My experience of making DVDs from HD material is as follows;
    CS6 DVD from HD sequence
    1. HD seq into Encore = poor results, jagged, blurred text etc.
    2. HD seq via AME (Premiere export or Transcode now within Encore) into Encore = OK.  Slightly blurred.
    3. SD Seq into Encore = Good results. Slightly sharper than 2.
    4. SD seq via AME (Premiere export or Transcode now within Encore) = Good results.  Slightly sharper than 2, same as 3.
    So I open a PAL DV sequence.
    Drag the HD sequence to the PAL DV sequence.
    Re-scale to 53%
    Apply a Gaussian blur of 1.5
    (If the PAL DV sequence is played in Premiere, you may see wavy verticals. Once on a DVD it’s OK.)
    Send to Encore

  • How do I make Epic files resolution 1/4, 1/2, etc. in Source Settings?

    I'm trying edit the files in a 1k or 2k timeline and I would like to finish in After Effects using the original 5K files. This is following Adobe's recommended work flow for RED files.
    You used to be able to change the R3D source settings to 1/2 or 1/4 resolution for R1 files, but I'm not seeing this option when I bring up the source settings with the Epic Files.
    Any ideas how I can do this?
    Thanks,
    Brendan

    It's not A dobe. It's the red epic files. They are a different Codec than the other red files and they aren't compatible with anything. Adobe just developed a work around so
    can view them. I don't think they were meant to be edited in 5K. Are you doing a feature? If not why not trascode to pro res or somethimg?

  • Merging R3D and Audio Doesn't Allow Source Settings Change

    Found a major issue in Premiere Pro CC that has put us behind a few days:
    If you select a .Wav audio file and then a red media r3d clip and merge clips, the merged file LOSES the ability to alter source settings, even if unlinked in the sequence.
    If you select the r3d clip file FIRST and THEN the .wav file and merge clips, the merged file works just fine, and source settings can be adjusted.
    I wish I knew that before merging hundreds of clips.
    Can you fix this one, Adobe?

    All the files I am merging are already WAV files, so I don't think that is a workaround.  Although it sounds like it seems to be working for you at the moment.  I worked with a support guy and tried ever conceivable troubleshooting option and we both came to the conclusion that it has nothing to do with the project file, etc. and it is definitely a bug in the software itself.  The question is, what is causing it?  Here are a few things I noticed:
    1. I have a WAV file and R3D file that was merged in my MAIN project, which I cannot access Source Settings on.  (about 3/4 of my merged files allow me to access the Source Settings)
    2. I tried taking these 2 original files (WAV and R3D) into a  new project.  I merged the files. I could not access the Source Settings on the merged file.  This was a brand new project. (I also tried all of this after removing all cache, temp, etc. files that Adobe has you clear out.  Still no luck)
    3. You would think that points to the files themselves.  However, then I went back to my MAIN project.  I still could not access the Source Settings on the originally merged file, but...I imported the WAV and R3D file again and merged them again.  This time I could access the Source Settings on the newly merged file, but still not the original.
    This is just a few of the tests, but this doesn't point to a Project File issue or an individual file issue.  It truly seems to be a random issue that is most likely linked to the program itself.
    This is a major issue for those of us working at this level.  Please address this issue immediately, Adobe.  Hopefully it is something that can be fixed and will not force us to re-merge files.  Thanks!
    I'm still waiting for a response from Adobe as it was supposedly escalated.

  • Files from IDML or CS5, 5.5 become very slow in InDesign CS6

    Windows 7 64 bit, core 2 duo, 8 gb ram, plenty of open space on the hard drive.
    Files work just fine in CS5 and CS5.5. Opening one of them in CS6 and working in them when just opened is also fine. After saving the file as a CS6 document, closing, and reopening in CS6, selecting text becomes extremely slow...merely putting the cursor in a text frame results in significant delay--the toolbar goes blank and takes several seconds before it redraws. Proceeding to select text and typing changes causes similar behavior.
    Opening an IDML file causes similar behavior after the file is saved as CS6 and closed.
    Files created in CS6 do not have this problem. It only seems to happen to files converted from previous versions or from IDML.
    Does not happen consistently, so I suppose it could be a font issue, although the files in question were originally built on a Mac and are being opened on the PC.

    OS is Win7 64 professional.
    Turned off Live Preflight etc., tried the .idml export, same problem.
    It's only on these specific files that have been opened from a .idml source which came from a Mac system. I had to replace fonts since we did not own the typefaces provided with the packaged files, so I am definitely suspecting a font issue. The original typefaces were OpenType and have been replaced with Adobe versions, although the problem does occur with the OpenType fonts in place.
    For now I can work in them using CS 5.5 with no trouble. When time permits I may rebuild these from scratch in CS6, as they are simple layouts anyway, although I also want to figure out exactly what is the cause. Fonts are the chief suspect even though I have them installed locally. I am going to try replacing them with completely different typefaces from newer sources to see if that makes a difference.

  • Trouble changing Camera RAW settings in Javascript (worked in CS5, but not CS6)

    I just upgraded to Master Collection CS6 from Production Premium CS5, and CameraRAWOpenOptions settings in scripts that I had working in Photoshop CS5 (64-bit) using Extendscript CS5 are no longer working with Photoshop CS6.  I get no error messages, but the settings I specify in the scripts (for example, CameraRAWOpenOptions.exposure=2.00) do not take effect when the image is opened.  Other Photoshop properties and actions within my script are working correctly.
    Note that this is an issue in Photoshop CS6.  I can use Extendscript CS5 or CS6, and the result is the same.
    Here is the way I am changing the settings in my script:
    var RawOptions = new CameraRAWOpenOptions;
    //RawOptions.settings=CameraRAWSettingsType.CUSTOM;
    //RawOptions.settings=CameraRAWSettingsType.SELECTEDIMAGE;
    RawOptions.settings=CameraRAWSettingsType.CAMERA;
    RawOptions.exposure=+2.00;
    RawOptions.vignettingAmount = 0;
    RawOptions.vignettingMidpoint = 0;
    RawOptions.contrast = 50;
    RawOptions.saturation = 0;
    RawOptions.shadows = 0;
    RawOptions.luminanceSmoothing = 0;
    var JPGopts = new JPEGSaveOptions;
    JPGopts.quality = JPEGquality;
    //Perform the loop through the files
    app.open(testListing[0], RawOptions, false);
    app.activeDocument.close(SaveOptions.DONOTSAVECHANGES);
    for (var nfile = nstart; nfile < nstop; nfile++)
        app.open(testListing[nfile], RawOptions, false);
        FnameSave = new File(SavePath+"/"+testListing[nfile].name);
        app.activeDocument.saveAs(FnameSave, JPGopts, false, Extension.UPPERCASE);
        app.activeDocument.close(SaveOptions.DONOTSAVECHANGES);

    I found a few of them actually work.
    CameraRAWOpenOptions.tint=0; // works (-150 to 150)
    CameraRAWOpenOptions.temperature=5500; // works (2000 to 50000)
    CameraRAWOpenOptions.luminanceSmoothing = 0; // works 0 to 100
    CameraRAWOpenOptions.saturation=50; // works =100 to 100
    CameraRAWOpenOptions.vignettingAmount=0; //works -100 to 100
    CameraRAWOpenOptions.vignettingMidpoint=0; //works -100 to 100
    These ones do not work:
    CameraRAWOpenOptions.brightness=0; // does not work (0 to 150)
    CameraRAWOpenOptions.contrast=0; // does not work (-50 to 100)
    CameraRAWOpenOptions.exposure = 0; // does not work (-4.0 to +4.0)
    CameraRAWOpenOptions.shadows=0; // (0 to 100) does not work
    CameraRAWOpenOptions.whiteBalance=WhiteBalanceType.SHADE; // does not work
    I noticed that, doing File-->File Info--> "Advanced" tab-->expand "Camera Raw Properties" that the ones that do not work have mostly either been removed (brightness) or had "2012" added to their names in the XMP in the conversion from CS5 to CS6.
    It appears the mapping from Javascript objects/properties to how Photoshop knows them is broken with the new version.  Is there any way to fix this?
    Is there an alternate way to do this by going through XMP?
    Unfortunately, I'm wanting to use "exposure", which is one of the ones that is broken.  My main script sets a custom exposure for each image (trying to smooth out EV jumps between successive images in a sunset time lapse).

  • I want to upgrade from Photoshop Extended CS5 to PS Extended CS6 (I do NOT want CC) but have been unable to find this at a sensible price (or sometimes at all). Help, anyone please?

    I want to upgrade from Photoshop Extended CS5 to PS Extended CS6 Mac (I do NOT want CC) but have been unable to find this at a sensible price (or sometimes at all). Help, anyone please? This is in UK, btw!

    What do you consider a sensible price?  PS CS6 extended is available only when you purchase the CS6 Suite, which is around $1000 for the upgrade from CS5.  PS 6, which is not extended, is about $200, but I'm not sure about upgrading to a single app from a suite.  Adobe used to allow it, but I'm not sure about now.  PS CC and Lightroom 5 combo is $9.99 a month or PS CC alone for $19.99 or the whole CC suite for $29 a month.  The latest CC apps are "extended."

  • How can I upgrade from CS4 to CS5/CS6?

    Hi, I really need to upgrade my Adobe suite from CS4 to CS5 or higher. From reading in this forum you are unable to do it, but those posts were from 2012. Wondering if this is still current and if anyone can help me? Do I need to buy the entire suite again from scratch? Surely not?
    I have a student version by the way.
    Thanks!

    You cannot upgrade from Photoshop CS4.  Those days are long past.
    While you can buy a full license for (the now outdated) Photoshop CS6, your most cost effective alternative may be to consider the Creative Cloud "Photographer's Bundle" subscription...

  • How can I go from Premiere Pro CS5 to After Effects CS6? (Problem)

    Hi,
    I am trying to send my clip from Premiere Pro CS5 to After Effects CS6, but when I right click on the clip, I can't even select the option to send it to After Effects. I can see the option to send it to After Effects, but I just cant select it. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    -Billy

    You can do what you want... only going the other way!
    You can import a CS5 Premiere Project (in its entirety
    or a selected sequence) into CS6 Ae.
    In CS6 Ae:
    File>Import>Adobe Premiere Pro Project...
    Navigate to your CS5 Premiere project, double-click
    and select 'All Sequences', or your preferred sequence.
    As Jim points out, Dynamic Linking will only work
    between matching versions of Pr and Ae.

    I'am unable to paste clips from the source monitor into the timeline by neither using the buttons below the source monitor nor hitting the shortcut "," .
    dragging the clip in the timeline still works... is there a hidden setting to enable this functions again or is it a bug?
    thanks in advance

  • Is Source Settings exclusive to R3D video files? will it happen for gh4 users or other 4k cameras?

    I love using source settings with my red epic files.. But id like to get something smaller and cheaper and not lose that amazing feature. Is it true the next upgrade will allow it? For which cameras?

    To my knowledge the GH4 does not shoot RAW video. There are currently Source Settings for R3D, ARRI Raw and Blackmagic Raw. In the upcoming release we've added Source Settings to the Convergent Design Odyssey7Q as well.

  • Red Raw Source Settings - multiple settings for one long clip?

    Hello everyone,
    I have a timeline with red raw material from Red Scarlet 4K. My DOP wants to make some adjustments in the source settings before Grading. I have some long merged clips (with a lot of changes in light etc.) and I have let`s say two different parts of one of the long clips in the timeline, so I tried to make some changes in the source settings for those two clips in the timeline, but the source settings change the master clip and not only the edited clips in the timeline. Is there a way to make adjustments in the source settings separately for every clip in the timeline?
    after I open the source settings it won`t show me the part of the clip which I have in the timeline, but the whole clip from the beginning, so I have to search manually where my clip in the timeline begins, so I know how to adjust it. Is there a way that the source settings show me only the part of the clip (or at least an in and out point) I have in the timeline?

    In my experience, each .RDC container can only have a single RMD (settings) file associated with it.
    To create multiple settings for the same clip, you would have to duplicate the .RDC folder and its contents for each new setting required.
    You would then have to replace each use of that file within your sequence, for each new setting required,
    i.e. 3 settings would require original plus 2 duplicate .RDC folders, then you'd have to replace each occurrence of that clip with 1 of 3 files that has the proper new setting.
    Now, of course, if you're not grading in PrP, I can't say how the color correction software would know which duplicated files or settings to link to.
    No, there is currently no way to open the Settings dialog for a .R3D file and have it match frame to a clip in the sequence. Perhaps you could submit a feature request for that option.
