R400: Which LCDs/displays are compatible?

After years of good service, my think pad has a cracked LCD panel. Since the laptop is fine otherwise and I am quite content with it, I would like to replace the panel.
The computer is a R400 7439 CT0, the display in question is a  14.1'' WXGA+ LED backlight, model LG LP141WP2 (TL)(B1), lenovo FRU 42T0498.
The problem is that this particular model seems to be hard to come by: I only found fantasy prices on ebay etc (800€!) that would be more expansive than a whole new computer, and most stores do not even offer this one.
What other options do i have? Are there compatible panels, and if so, which? I did do some research on the forums but I am still a bit befuddled about the technical details. More specifically:
- CCFL backlight would be easy and cheap to get, but from what I read I probably need to stick with LED backlight, right?
- Can I "downgrade" to WXGA without problems? Would that require any additional parts (cable, inverter etc)? I did find a FRU 27R2412 or FRU 42T0701 that seem to fit the (some?) 7439 CTOs..
Thank you so much!
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Just for the record:
The new panel works fine now, but I also needed a different LCD cable (93P4593) AND sub card (FRU 42W8231).
Was still worth it though.

  • Which MPEG4 flavours are compatible with iMovie 08?

    Hi there!
I just tried out iMovie 08 and I like it quite a lot. But there is a problem with my videos, which seem to be incompatible. I record video with an Casio Exilim EX-S500 camera which produces in an Avi-container with tracks in this format:
    1. Video: M4S2 aka MS MPEG-4
    2. Audio: DVI ADPCM
Ok, I found out that the sound format is kind of problematic, but I don't know what's the matter with the video stream. MPEG-4 should work. There is nowhere a list to be found exactly stating the video formats iMovie 08 likes. It would be nice to use my videos as they are, but if conversion cannot be avoided (arg!), I would like to know a good target format.
    *Which format*
*a) works fluidly with iMovie 08 (skimming etc.) and*
*b) preserves the visual quality of my movies without exploding file size?*
I'm experimenting with MPEG-4 and H.264 encoding in MPEG Streamclip just now. I'm trying to find a suitable setting for the quality control.
    Best regards,
    Henry

Ok, I found out that the sound format is kind of problematic, but I don't know what's the matter with the video stream. MPEG-4 should work.
MS MPEG-4 is a proprietary, non-standard MPEG-4 compression format. While you may have the appropriate QT component installed that will allow you to play these files back in the QT Player, I am not sure the codec will allow iMovie '08 to import/edit the video natively. And, as you previously indicated, the DVI ADPCM audio is known not to be compatible. Best approach would be to convert files to a fully supported (i.e., QT playback, conversion, and edit compatible format) manually or simply import them to iMovie '06 if your QT components support conversion to DV by iMovie '06.
There is nowhere a list to be found exactly stating the video formats iMovie 08 likes. It would be nice to use my videos as they are, but if conversion cannot be avoided (arg!), I would like to know a good target format.
For the most part, users here are still learning which compression formats are compatible and which aren't. I like AIC/Linear PCM (Apple Intermediate Codec with "Big Endian" audio), H,264/AAC, MJPEG/Linear PCM, DV, and MPEG4/AAC formats when proper data rates are used to preserve maximum quality. Would also like to use Apple Animation/Linear PCM which is import/edit compatible but it has an output bug which renders all video as a "black" display. Apple Video does the same thing but has less color depth so I would avoid it anyway. At least one individual has indicated Photo-JPEG video may have the same "black" display problem but I was not able to confirm this. Other formats will likely remain a questionable until somebody tries them and reports back. I suspect there may be other, less commonly used formats that also may be compatible.
I'm experimenting with MPEG-4 and H.264 encoding in MPEG Streamclip just now. I'm trying to find a suitable setting for the quality control.
H.264 usually works best if you simply do not limit the video data rate. However, to give you an idea of the data rates involved, this usually requires a video data rate on the order of 18-20 Mbps for VGA SD dimensions. MPEG-4 video data rates usually need to be 2.0-2.5 times as great. Total AIC audio + video is about the same as H.264/AAC, DV usually about 55 Mbps, and MJPEG/Linear PCM only about 12.5 Mbps (which is why I suspect iMovie '08 uses it for thumbnails and storage of photos used in a project).

  • Which battery packs are compatible to the one in Satellite A50-110?

    Dear all,
I have a Satellita SA50-110 and realise that I need to urgently replace the battery pack, and of course I would like to upgrade, if I already have to invest, from 4400mAh to maybe 6600 or even 8800mAh. However, when I browse the various online shops, I can not find any offers for my Laptop model SA50-110, which appears to be somewhat exotic for some reason unknown to me. Instead, I find lots of offers for other models, like for the SA50-100 or -105.
If I search for the battery specification (PA3356U-2BRS), I have similar problems finding a proper replacement.
Can somebody help me here? Can I buy e.g. the battery pack for a 100, will that fit to the 110? The thumbnails I found look quite promising, but of course I can't rely on that impression.
Can I find somewhere out there a listing on which battery packs are compatible to PA3356U-2BRS?
Many thanks in advance to anyone who can point me to an appropriate link.
    Cheers,
    fipps123

    Hello
You don't have exotic notebook but the model description is not SA50 but Satellite A50. To find info about compatible options is very easy and you can get it in one minute only.
Please visit http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Peripherals & Services > Options & Accessories > Options and Accessories Home Page. There you can select your notebook model Satellite A50-110 and see all power options with full list of all compatible batteries.
    Good luck!

  • MacBook air which wireless printers are compatible?

I am trying to establish which wireless printers are compatible to the MacBook air and how do you download the printer software if there is no disc drive?
    Thanks in advance Alan

Most newer, wifi-capable printers (say past 5 years) should be compatible with your MBA. There are two options in regard to the disc drive question:
You can either buy an external optical drive (connects via USB) or you can use the MBA's remote disc feature: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5287?viewlocale=en_US
You don't even need a disc drive. Just set up the printer to use wirelessly with another computer on your network (doesn't have to be a Mac), make sure it's working, then go to System Preferences > Print & Scan, and click on the '+' to add a printer.
The Mac (Bonjour) will query the network to see if it can find a printer or scanner and will give you the option of adding it. Once you opt to add it, your MBA will locate the appropriate drivers.
Just the drivers will be downloaded; the printer's user interface software will not show up on your MBA. If this is a requirement for you, you will want to install via disc/remote disc.

  • Is 17" PPC LCD display a compatible replacement for 17" Intel?

iMac G5 17" 1.83GHz Intel Core2Duo has broken LCD screen.
I wish to replace using screen from iMac G5 17" 1.8GHz PPC.
    Will it work?

This much I do know, the G5 was much easier to take apart than the Intel.  Even if the screens are compatible, you'll have to be very exact how you place it.   http://www.ifixit.com/ and http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ are some of the best take apart websites I've seen.  They might have the answer you are looking for.

  • Which External Drives are compatible with Time Machine.  I plan to utilize it for backups and to connect to an Airport Extreme.

MBP Retina, 15 inch, Late 2013. Intel Core i7.  OSX 10.9.4
Which External Hard Drives are compatible with Time Machine.
I plan to use one drive for automatic backups connected to an Airport Extreme.
The connection can be USB or Ethernet and should be expandable.
    OR
should I just buy the Time capsule and avoid the compatibility, connection and interference issues.
    Thanks

    Hi Kappy,
I just saw that on the Apple Support site that "Time Machine is not supported with USB hard drives that are connected to an AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme device", just as you have suggested.
Why is the newest model of the Airport Extreme, which is the model I have, an exception to the Time Machine compatibility?
The following information is from Apple website:
    Time Machine works with:
AirPort Time Capsule's built-in hard drive (any model)
External USB hard drive connected to AirPort Time Capsule (any model)
An external hard drive connected to your Mac
Use the Time Machine pane of System Preferences to choose your backup disk(s).
    Additional Information
Time Machine is not supported with USB hard drives that are connected to an AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme device.

  • Which HDV Camcorders are compatible with FCE HD?

Where can I find a list of HDV Camcorders (preferrably Sony camcorders) whose video files are compatible and be edited by Final Cut Express HD? I have a MacBook Pro with FCE HD and now I am trying to decide on which camcorder to purchase.
Someone told me that tapeless (ie. Hard Disk Drive) camcorders are not compatible with FCE HD. Is this true?
So which camcorders are a) whose video footage could be edited by FCE HD and b) recommended by most?
    Thanks for all your help!!

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Currently, iDVD do not support HD on HD-DVD.
Toast does support it in his most recent version BUNDLED with HD DVD burner.
As I know, there are only 3 company who sell HD-DVD burner.
They are very expensive, same thing for HD-DVD blank media.
The "war" between HD Blu-Ray and HD-DVD is not over and the industry (cinema, computers makers, consumers) dont know what technology will win the market.
You can shoot in HDV, convert directly from your camcorder (with sony models, see specifications of your model), and capture in SD in FCE HD. (the result on the DVD is better than shooting in SD and the process is easy)
You can capture HDV footage in ... HDV project with FCE HD set for this format (with the help of Apple intermediate Codec), edit in HDV and print to tape on your camcorder to keep and view the edited HDV content on a HD tv set.
Once the burners will be avalaible at a reasonnable cost, you will recapture your edited movie from your saved tape, and burn the movie in High definition DVD. IMovie HD or FCE HD will do this job well.
Your MacBook does'nt have a HD DVD burner (like any mac sold currently), so think about an external one.

  • SQL Server Express compatibility with Windows 8.1 - Which version(s) are compatible?

We have purchased a new computer that has Win 8.1 Pro. We are migrating an application from a Win 7 Pro machine we are currently successfully using (the vendor migrates it for us) and they have said that the application will require the installation of SQL
Server 2008 Express (which we do have on our Win 7 machine).
In looking at the requirements for SQL Server 2008 Express (on the download page for it), it does not mention it being compatible with Win 8.1
In addition, Installation Instructions  says that it requires:
     Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1
     Windows Installer 4.5.
     Windows PowerShell 1.0
I see that 3.5 is already listed as a program feature of Win8.1 and I've enabled it. Do I need to install SP1? I downloaded it, and launched it, and nothing happened.
I also looked at the Windows Installer 4.5 download page, and it's not clear if that is compatible with 8.1. Do I need to download and install it?
Power Shell 2.0 is already installed. I assume that will be backwards compatible with PowerShell 1.0; is that correct?
I saw another question about SQL Server Express Compatibility with Win 8.1 (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/038ec00e-4fc1-41ba-9fdc-21c022aad67e/action?threadDisplayName=sql-server-express-compatibility-with-windows-81) and the response
said that SQL Server Express 2012 will work, but the link contained in the answer led to a page for SQL Server Express 2014.
My vendor has told me that SQL SERver Express 2012 will be backwards compatible with their product. But they said that I would first have to install 2008 first. Is that correct for Win 8.1?
    So, the ultimate questions are:
    1. What is the link for Sql Server 2012 Express for Win 8.1?
    2. Will the SQL Server 2012 Express download require prior install of the 2008 version
    3. What other component requirements are required for SQL Server 2012 Express, and how can I determine if they have already been installed. (This is a brand new computer with a clean Win8.1 Install).
    4. Finally, can we use the 2014 version of SQL Server Express for Win 8.1? If so, questions 1, 2 and 3 apply, too.
Thanks for your help on this!! HIGH ANXIETY.

  • Which Audio formats are compatible with FCE?

I just bought the cutest recorder, the Zoom H1 arrived today and it's going to be so handy for capturing audio files. As I'm playing with it, the WAV format it records imports and places just fine in FCE. But for some things I want a lower quality sample which will yield a longer recording time (like leaving it on for hour or more for lecture) and tried mp3 sample rate but the mp3 sample recording does not produce sound in FCE, but just a silence with blip, blip, blip...
    Shouldn't mp3 work in FCE?
Also, I use Audacity and it opens none of the WAV or the MP3 and gives an error. I will be in audio 'he-double toothpicks' for a while until I learn how to capture, regulate, handle recorded files. Isn't there something like StreamClip for audio that will make your audio files compatible?
I don't know what I am doing here folks and need some advice please.
    TIA,
    Ken

For use in FCE, your audio should be AIF at the same sample rate as your Sequence. There are a number of ways to convert from other formats. http://fcpbook.com/Audio1.html
Okay, I read that link and ordered Quicktime 7 Pro which charged me $29.99 and there is nothing to download. It turns out that it is just the key to unlock Quicktime pro from Quicktime 7. The problem is, I have Snow Leopard and am using Quicktime 10 so version 7 is an old version. I think I paid money for something I cannot use. Quicktime would have been the way to convert my files to AIFF. This is frustrating. Now I need to go find a way to get a refund from Apple.

  • Which LCD display for better colors?

I know most of you would prefer a CRT monitor for better colors but what are the options if i choose an LCD/TFT display? I tried and returned two LCD monitors in past and i don't want to waste more time and money. I heard Eizo ColorEdge series have good colors but they are way expensive. any ideas?

Nevermind... After some research, I bought two Dell Ultrsharp 2209WA monitors. These are e-IPS pannels and are far better in colors and viewing angles compared to the ordinary TN pannels. IPS pannels are expensive but worth every penny ...

  • Satellite 1410-902: Which DVD drives are compatible?

My CD in Toshiba s1410-902 is broken and I would like to change it to DVD reader or DVD recorder. The problem is, that not all IDE CD/DVD drives will work with this Toshiba. BIOS accepts only definite drives some of manufacturers, but I don't know which one.
Where can I find the coplete list of copmatible DVD drives for this model of Toshiba?

    Hi
If you will buy a drive for your notebook you have to check the physical size of the drive.
The drive settings (master/slave/csel) are very important because you cannot reset these settings like on the normal desktop PC drive.
I have found this CD-RW/DVD-Rom combo drive: P000352490
This drive should be compatible with Satellite 1410.
But of course, you can contact the ASP in your country if you want to order supported parts.

  • Which Color LaserJets are compatible with Airport Express?

I am having a hard time figuring out which HP Color LaserJet printers are going to work with AE. HP's website does not give me much information and of course Apple's site is the same. What am I really looking for here? Would Apple Bounjour compatibility do it? If so, would I be able to just connect the printer to AE either using USB or an Ethernet and print off of the wireless network?
Let's say would any of the following work?
    HP Color LaserJet 2605dn
    HP Color LaserJet 3600dn
    HP Color LaserJet 3600n
    HP Color LaserJet 3800

Let's say would any of the following work?
    HP Color LaserJet 2605dn
    HP Color LaserJet 3600dn
    HP Color LaserJet 3600n
These are all network printers with ethernet connections and are designed to be connected to networks via ethernet.
You could only connect these to an Airport Express by ethernet if the Airport Express was configured as a remote WDS node.
If connecting by USB I would expect them to work (even if they are not on my list) as they are network printers by design.
    HP Color LaserJet 3800
This one is less certain, but my experiences with the 2600 makes me think yes it will work.

  • Which audio interfaces are compatible with a Lightning to USB Camera adapter???

Would like to use my iPad Mini with Lightning Adapter in conjunction with an audio interface. What are the requirements for a device that would accept the adapter (what type of USB input/output). Thanks!

    It should work.
Reset the iPad. Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot.
And, just is case, did you remember to turn the camera on after it was connected to the iPad?
