R52 1846-64G Wireless Windows XP Activation

Hi all,
I've formatted and reinstalled Windows XP Pro OEM on this old laptop for my uncle to use (needs nothing more than basic) but I am unable to activate the new Windows XP installation over the internet, as it will not register any network connectivity. I reach the 'Configure your network settings' screen and select 'automaticaly detect settings' but each time it returns "unable to establish a connection ... check your network settings" dialogue.
Using Fn+F5 to enable wireless does not cause the wireless dash indicator to light, instead turning on the bluetooth indicator (the 'internal wireless device' is enabled in CMOS/BIOS). I have also attempted to connect via ethernet cable direct to router and direct to modem without success. Obviously as I cannot even log in, updating drivers is currently out of the question.
I am loathe to telephone expensive Microsoft customer support simply to activate a perfectly genuine copy of Windows but suspect that this could be a lack of server support for Windows XP having moved onto Vista/Win7 - any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the Forum!
Your method of installation allows a limited number of days before you must activate. Otherwise, as you found out, you won't be able to log in. Since you had not installed wireless or Ethernet drivers, you weren't able to get online to activate. Calling in is not a big deal, by the way. It's an automated system, and you must enter a bunch of numbers which are displayed on your screen. If you don't care for that, then just re-install XP and you will be given a new period in which to activate. This time, use a wireless PC Card or USB wireless adapter to get online and activate. Then, download your wireless driver. Or just use another computer to download your wireless driver and transfer it to your R52 with a USB flash drive.
According to System service parts your R52 1846-64G came with "Intel PRO Wireless 2915abg Mini-PCI Adapter." Go to the Lenovo Drivers and Software download page and enter your "1846-64G" type/model number. Choose "Intel PRO 2200bg and 2915abg Mini PCI adapter wireless software for Windows 2000, XP" in the Networking: Wireless LAN section. Direct link here.
To install the program:
   (1) Download and Double-click "1ywc54ww.exe" to run the extraction wizard.
 * (2)  Now you must actually RUN the "SETUP.EXE" Intel wireless driver installation program. Navigate over to C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLANCX2A  (Click "Computer"---> drive C---> Drivers ---> Win---> WLANCX2A and then double-click "SETUP.EXE"). Another way to accomplish this is to Click Start, then click Run. Specify "SETUP.EXE" with the full path where you extracted the package, and click OK. Example: C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLANCX2A
Reboot and you should be OK. Repeat this process for any other drivers you may be missing. Don't forget to update  Windows to Service Pack 3 and then install Audio drivers. Let us know how you do.
Have a great day. (I do not work for Lenovo)

  • Stopping the applications main window from activating when a child window is clicked

I am building a javascript based AIR application that implements a bastardized growl notifier.  When the the application is minimized or in the background you may be notified of a new message.  This part works great.
The UI calls for an "X" button to close the the notification window.  When I click the "X" the application's main window is activated and brought to the foreground, but the desired behavior is that the main application window stays minimized or backgrounded.  I've tried playing around with preventDefault and stopPropagation on mouse click and mouse down events but this doesn't seem to solve the problem.  I've also tried to hook into the display state changing event on the nativeWindow to see if I could cancel activation events in this scenario but I wasn't able to get that to work.  My last ditch effort was to try and tap into the AIR platform events for mouse click and mouse down, with the rationale that these things are handled in AIR and by the time it gets to the webkit engine, it's already too late, but that didn't seem to work either.
It's completely possible that I'm "missing some mundane detail" and one of these approaches should be sufficient.  I've noticed that TweetDeck has the same problem so I'm wondering, is this just an "AIR thing", possibly a bug, or is this expected?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I can post more information and screenshots if my explanation wasn't clear enough.  Thanks for reading.

  • Cannot install Windows Azure Active Directory Sync tool on Server 2012 w/ SQL Server 2012

I went to change a user password on the server today and after changing the password I logged into the SQL server to run “Import-module dirsync” & “Start-onlinecoexistencesync” in powershell in order to sync the new password with Exchange Online. After
waiting ten minutes I tried setting up the email on the user’s PC but the new password was not being accepted. I logged into Office 365 and I got the following warning.
"Warning: Last synced more than 3 days ago | Troubleshoot"
So I pressed troubleshoot and the site installed a tool on the server to try and find out what the issue was. After the tool ran it told me that the version of dirsync.exe was out of date and that I should download the new one and install it. So I downloaded
the new dirsync.exe (version 7020 I believe) and tried installing it. I kept getting error after error, different ones to boot.
First it told me I wasn’t part of the FIMSyncAdmins group (so I added myself), then it told me that it could not connect to MIIS server,  so I tried starting it and windows said that there was a problem with the sign on used by the service so I had
to reset the password for the local user named “AAD_bfd1d6f0cef7” which was being used by that service. The service started successfully and when I went to install it told me I could not and if the problem persisted I should uninstall the old version and reinstall.
Looking in the log file, before I even install the software I see the following Information...
    Level: Information
    Date: 2015-03-24 12:49:17 PM
    Source: Directory Synchronization
    Event ID: 0
    Task Category: None
"The current configuration of the Windows Azure Active Directory Sync tool is invalid. Please reinstall the Windows Azure Active Directory Sync tool."
So I tried to reinstall (i even manually uninstalled the old version and removed the folder in C:\Program Files\ called "Windows Azure Active Directory Sync") and on reinstall I get as far as "Installing Components" and then after a little
while it errors out with the error "The install was unable to setup a required component. Check the event logs for more information. Please try the installation again and if the error persists, contact Technical Support. "
Looking at the log file there are a bunch of new entries, created by the installer. There's over 300 new entries and I can not post them all here due to character count restriction. you can find the log file here...
    www.clarkfreightways.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/dirsync_log.txt
Can anyone tell me what is going on, I've been looking through the log files and I can see errors but I'm not sure what to do to fix it.

    Greetings!
Wanted to know if you've hosted the DirSync tool (latest version) on a VM? Also, if this is deployed in a Production or Lab environment? If it's a lab setup, you may
try installing the DirSync on a new VM / Server (suspecting that it could be some machine related issues).
Here's a Support KB helping with different errors:
    http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2684395
If its a production environment, would suggest to raise a
Technical Support Ticket for assisting further with break-fix.

  • Oracle 8.1.7 for Unix and Windows 2000 Active Directory

Is it possible to integrate the users and passwords of an Oracle Database running on Solaris with the users and passwords defined in a Windows 2000 Active Directory? What are the requirements and the necesary steps?
I've read the documentation and it shows how to do it if you install Oracle in a Windows 2000 Server, but it does not mention about installing it in any kind of Unix.

You should consider to base your firm security and central user repository on REALLY SECURE and ROBUST product technology. Not on Windows 2000 Active Directory. Win2K AD is known to be slow and insecure. If you have Oracle on Solaris your data is secure and next step is to move user accounts to real user repository. It may be one of well-known LDAP servers. Try to read some materials on CERT Coordination Center (http://www.cert.org) which describe LDAP servers. After this you can choose the server which best suite your needs.

All the wireless Client ( laptops ) mac-address are added as add username option and enter username
as mac-address & enter the mac-address as pwd second option of password TAB.

    Hi Akber,
I think you didnt understood what i was trying to say here :-( No problem..I will explain my theory again.Your requirment is to autheticate user from ACS internal database (you have already added the MAC address as the username on your ACS internal database) as well as from ACS external database (in your case this is AD).
What i was saying is when when authetication request comes to raidus server it checks its internal database and if it find a valid username and password (here it will the MAC address and password which you have entered to the ACS database) the ACS will not query the external database (in your case the AD) for authetication.
You can not have ACS to look in to both MAC and AD database at the same time.
    Hope this clears your doubt.

  • Windows Azure Active Directory Sync Setup

    Hi,
Currently trying to install Windows Azure Active Directory Sync tool for use with Office 365.

    Thanks

    Hi,
According to your description, it seems that you have installed Azure Active Directory Sync tool successfully, right? What configuration have you done when you got that error message?
Firstly, I recommend you to check the event logs for more detailed information about this issue.
In general, it is recommended to install the Directory Sync tool on a member server rather than a Domain Controller. If you installed Azure Active Directory Sync Tool on a Domain Controller, please uncheck “Start Configuration Wizard now”
checkbox and then log off and log in again to configure the Azure Active Directory Sync Tool Configuration Wizard. If you forget to follow the above process, the Configuration Wizard will return an error "Constraint Violation Error".
Besides, please also check the permission of the system account. You can add it into the built-in Administrators group in your on-premise domain to see if the issue persists.

  • Installation Error - Windows Process Activation Service (WAS) and WWW Publi

    Hi all,
I am a newbie to UPK..
Just tried installing UPK Developer Server + Client on my local machine, and hit upon the following error that I have no idea of !!
    Service status check
Setup cannot determine if Windows Process Activation Service (WAS) and World Wide Web Publishing are installed on the computer.
Confirm that Windows Process Activation Service (WAS) and World Wide Web Publishing are installed and running on the computer.
    Please select another configuration.
    OK
I am using Win 7 Ultimate.. 32 bit.. ran the Installer with Administrator privileges already !!
Any help from you, in case you have the solution, would be highly appreciated.. :)
    Besties..
    Sahil

    Hi Sahil,
Couple of things here - The server component on UPK can only be installed on Windows Server 2003 or 2008 - so it seems as if you are choosing the incorrect installation option when running the setup. There are normally a few options when you run the setup for UPK - these include the following:
    1. Developer Client
    2. Developer Server
    3. Developer Server and Client
    4. Developer Single User
    5. Knowledge Center
You should be selecting option 4 - Developer Single user. This will install all binaries required (including the database) to your local machine. This option is not used as a multi-user environment, but rather for sole use on your PC/laptop. If you intend on installing on a multi-user environment, you will need to review the Tech Specs for UPK to ensure that you meet the Hardware and Software requirements.
The errors you are receiving about WAS is related to IIS. You need to ensure that the role for IIS is installed on your machine - The webserver component of UPK utilises IIS.
    Hope this all helps.

    Greig

  • CF11 is crashing ( application pool suffered a fatal communication error with the Windows Process Activation Service)

I have a cluster of 2 IIS web servers on Windows Server 2008 R2. They had been running on CF10 for over a year (if not two) with no problems. I upgraded one server to CF11 and now that server is crashing while the CF10 servers is still running fine.
In the Windows event log I'm seeing 4 instances of this error:
"A process serving application pool '******' suffered a fatal communication error with the Windows Process Activation Service. The process id was '4652'. The data field contains the error number."
    Then finally:
"Application pool '******' is being automatically disabled due to a series of failures in the process(es) serving that application pool.".
Looking at the application pool in the IIS admin it is stopped. Restarting will resolve but it will eventually crash.
    What could be the issue?
    -Phil

I'm seeing in the CF logs leading up to the crash:

    Hi,
It is a IIS error. Please check the Windows Process Activation service in the Exchange server. Make sure the service is started.
Please have a try to restart the server then change the issue again.

  • Integrating SAP ECC 6.0 with Microsoft Windows 2003 Active Directory

    Hi Gurus,
We are planning to integrate our SAP ECC 6.0 with Microsoft Windows 2003 Active directory.
I have several questions on this:
    1. Can i authenticate all the users from SAP
    2. It is used only for user authentication or can it be also used for password authentication
ie user can login using his windows password?
    3. While integration in SAP does a separate table or a field is created in database.
4.If a employee leaves a company than in SAP is it possible to lock & deactivate the user automatically.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Nihar

    Hi Mastek,
You should be able to accomodate your needs with respect to integration of your AD accounts with SAP ECC ABAP. This can be done via LDAP connector configuration. The below has info on how to perfrom the configuration at a high level. You will have to integrate, and map certain user data. You may also want to do some LDAP Connector research:
On the Java stack - you can also confugure UME to integrate/authenticate with AD:
    Hope this helps!

  • Unable to turn on windows process activation service thus IIS (CBS files uploaded in sky drive)

    Hi,
I am trying to turn on/install IIS for local host and for that it require WAS to be installed and running. When try to turn on the feature of WAS i get the error "Error Occured. Not all the features were successfully changed." I had applied all
the patches that I could find on the net and tried cleaning and re installing the .NET. None of them worked. Please help me out as I am in critical situation and need to develop something in really quick time.
I had uploaded the files at "C:\Windows\logs\CBS" to my sky drive.
Please provide the solution for the same as I can not format my system at this point of time.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
There are two tools that can be used to fix this issue quickly:
    System Update Readiness Tool
    MSConfig.exe
As for your situation, I suggest MSConfig.exe.
When you install IIS then installer adds WPAS for you automatically as one of the dependencies.
BUT when you uninstall IIS WPAS does not get uninstalled automatically – leaving the core binaries intact (this is done for a reason and is not a BUG.
In short, it’s not uninstalled to make sure we don’t end up breaking other services on the box that consume this process model explicitly – like WCF service).
One has to make sure WPAS is explicitly uninstalled by going to features under server manager and choosing “Windows Process Activation Services” to uninstall.
The detail can be found at:
    http://www.iis.net/learn/troubleshoot/installation-issues/troubleshooting-iis-7x-installation-issues
Meanwhile, you’d better post the OneDrive link where you post the CBS file.
    Regards
    Wade Liu

  • Windows 2000/Active Directory - Gateway on none domain controller

I have been trying to configure a Gateway to run on a non member server and have it point to a domain. All attempts to work of the remote machine have failed and wonder what I am doing wrong. Here is an out line of what I have done:
    Environment
All machines are Windows 2003 running in VMWare instances.
Machine 1: Gateway machine. IDM is installed but not running. Server name = USTRSDLMS009VM1, member of the workgroup IDM
Machine 2: AD machine, Gateway installed. IDM is installed but not running. Server Name = USTRSDLMS009VM2. Domain Name = IdMTestAd.IdMTest.com.
Machine 3: IDM is installed and running. Servername = USTRSDLMS009VM3 member of the workgroup IDM
    Basic Tests:
All machines can ping each other by both computer name and ip address.
    Easy step first
Connect to IDM on Machine 3 (IDM server) configure the Windows 2000/Active Directory RA to point to the Gateway on Machine 2 (AD server). All works perfect. Server is identified with IP address.
    Remote server test
Connect to IDM on Machine 3 (IDM server) configure the Windows 2000/Active Directory RA to point to the Gateway on Machine 2 (Gateway machine). This does not work. Configuration of Resource Parameters is as follows:
Host: Configured using both IP or ServerName
    TCP Port: 9278
    User: Administrator
    container: cn=users,dc=idmtestad,dc=idmlab,dc=com
LDAP HostName, DomainName, IP or Servername of Server 1 (standalone gateway server). This is the setting that should allow me to use a remote machine. NOTE: I have done tons of tests and they all indicate that this field is not working.
I get the following error message when I try and connect:
    Test connection failed for resource(s):
AD-VM2DirectConnect: Error opening object 'LDAP://cn=users,dc=idmtestad,dc=idmlab,dc=com': ADsOpenObject(): 0X8007054B: , , The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.
I have also tested connecting to the LDAP using an LDAP browser with the same credentials from the standalone gateway machine. Worked fine.
The following is the Gateway Trace log from the standalone gateway machine. I will post it as a seperate item in the thread (a little cleaner I think). But the basic error section is:
    02/28/2006 13.16.42.140000 [2540] (../../../../src/wps/agent/adsi/ADSIExtension.cpp,7352): buildBindOptions bind flag = 0x1
