R5970-P2D2G DisplayPort version & monitor disconnection when in standby from Win

Greetings.
I've had the graphics card in the subject for a couple of years now, but recently I've upgraded my setup to a triple monitor for Eyefinity in games. The card (product page still visible here: msi.com/product/vga/R5970-P2D2G.html) has two DVI and one miniDP outputs, so the three displays work. Now, because my monitors are Samsung S23A750D models and support 120Hz refresh through DP, I was wondering if the card had DisplayPort version 1.2 which should allow, with a physical split connector, to pilot up to four monitors through the single MiniDP port. The page doesn't say and neither does the manual.
Secondarily, I've been experiencing a problem with the setup I mentioned. When Windows 7 (x64) puts the monitors in standby, at wake up I find that the icons on the desktop are all jumbled because, apparently the monitor connected through DP registers as disconnected when it's put in standby, while the DVI ones do not. This is an issue with the DP communication channel because switching around the monitors doesn't help, whichever one is connected via DP displays the same behavior. It does not, however, happen if I use the monitors motion sensor or their internal timers to put them in standby.
This has been happening ever since I purchased the monitors, and as far as drivers go, I've been running the Catalyst 12.4 and now 12.6 through it all, and the monitor .inf drivers as well. Anybody have any input about how to avoid or solve this issue?
Thanks in advance,
DeInit

I think you should disable the auto-standby of the monitor... because if the monitor go on standby by its own , the pc clearly recognize it as disconnected.
P.S. some monitors have a voice in the menu to set the input recognized as an input from pc ( there's a voice that says input : pc  or something like this ), maybe you should look for it and try to use it.
I should've clarified this, so thank you for reminding me.
This happens with auto-standby off as well as on, no difference. In fact, I resorted to the auto option only when I disabled the windows option because of its unintended effects. Not that it would make sense for a device in standby to Be detected as disconnected, IMO. In fact, normally devices such as monitors aren't considered disconnected even when they're off, unless they are entirely depowered. When the monitors go in standby through their own means the computer doesn't mind at all, but if it's the computer that switches the DP-connected one, you clearly hear the "device disconnected" tone and, when you resume activity, the one for "device connected" in turn.
The menu item you mention is there, and it is set for PC. I find that switching it to A/V, as if to use the monitor as a display for a blu-ray player, has the only visible effect to slightly cut the total visible area of the screen, so that if for example you watch a movie, there's a portion of the picture that is cropped out. It does not seem to have to do with how communication with the device is handled, standby-wise.

    I am using my Apple TV to stream video from my iMac to my TV using AirPlay display.  Every 5 minutes or so, it disconnects.  The video freezes on the TV but will continue playing on the iMac.  Then after a few seconds it disconnects completely and the apple TV will return to the menu screen and I then have to reconnect.  I also have noticed that it only disconnects when streaming video.  I'm able to use the Airplay to display what's on my computer screen and it works fine without disconnecting. I have no issues with the connectivity of my internet, there is always a full signal. • External monitor flickers when waking up from sleep

    I use an external monitor with my new MacBook. All works well, but I have noticed that if I start using the external after the screen has gone to sleep, I sometimes get a problem on the external where the screen flickers and breaks up. If I disconnect and reconnect the Mini DisplayPort then the problem resolves, has anyone else seen this?
    Tony

    I have the same issue with my new macbook.
    When i wake the computer from a partial sleep the screen flickers and i get line distortion through the image.
    If i put the machine to sleep unplug the mini dvi adapter and replug it in and wake the computer up the problem disappears.
    The issue is also intermittent doing about 3 times out of every 10 wake ups...
    If anyone has any suggestions it would be great, I a using a new Dell 2208WFP monitor.

  • Last update - disconnect when you restore from a s...

    Hi all,
    After installing the latest skype update it works pretty weird and annoying. If you move your laptop into sleep mode, and during waking up you changed your network (i.e. moved from office to home) - skype loose the connection and will not renew it till you make a full system reboot(!). It's completely disgusting and annoying. The previous version doesn't have any kind of these issues.
    Any thoughts or comments what can help?

    Everything on your phone will be replaced with whatever data is in the backup you restore from, except iTunes content, which is not included in an iPhone backup. The only pics in an iPhone backup are pics from your camera roll.

    The point is that there are four i product users for one computer in my house, and not everyone wants the same music on their device.  Like I said before, the ipod is not syncing to the new library even though I plug it in when the new itunes library is pulled up.  It keeps syncing to the old library...

  • Surface Pro 3 Display/Video/Graphics Driver Issues - DisplayPort, External Monitors, Windows 10 Build 9926

    Surface Pro 3 - i5 with Intel HD Graphics 4400
    Windows 10 build 9926
    All Latest updates installed
    Intel Graphics Driver 10.18.15.4079.
    Latest system update released on Jan 22nd (which I understand is just the latest intel graphics driver?).
    The display driver status has this error message: Windows has stopped this device because it
    has reported problems. (Code 43)  - I assume it's
    reverting to the basic Microsoft driver when this occurs. Which explains why my displayport (External monitors) will not work.
    I have uninstalled the driver completely (and deleted the driver files), tried the Windows basic driver,
    and rebooted several times with no luck.
    I cannot get my docking station displayport or the  displayporton my surface pro 3 working.
    According to Microsoft (see below), this is a known issue UNTIL you update to display driver
    version 4079  - which I have.
    Known issues on Surface after updating to Windows 10 January Technical Preview
    On Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro 3, the Mini DisplayPort won’t work on the Windows 10 January Technical Preview until you’ve installed graphics driver 4079 or later. Check Windows Update often for the most recent graphics driver.
    On Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro 3, you’ll notice poor graphics rendering on the Windows 10 January Technical Preview until you’ve installed graphics driver 4079 or newer from Windows Update. Check Windows Update often for the most recent graphics driver.
    If you’re using video driver 3496, you may need to start in safe mode and remove that driver. Then restart Surface in normal mode and go to Windows Update to get the most recent graphics driver.

    Hi Nicholas,

  • MSI R5970-P2D2G Woes: Lockups in 3D Applications + Fan Controt doesn't work.

    Hello,
    Yesterday (5/10/10) I received my MSI R5970-P2D2G in the mail. I've been in the market for a HD5970 for quite a while, but living in Latin America it's been next to impossible to get one. I finally managed to get a brand new R5970 through the Amazon marketplace. Anyhow, since the card arrived yesterday I've been trying to get this thing to run properly.
    The card locks up mere seconds into any 3D application, roughly when the GPUs reach around 75C. A Furmark multi-GPU stability test will make the card hard lock my system in mere seconds, whereas 3D Mark Vantage actually manages to get through most of GPU Test #1 before hard locking. It usually hard locks somewhere in between the end of GPU Test #1 and the beginning of GPU Test #2. I've only been able to complete the 1-minute Furmark benchmark once. Let's not even get started with trying to play any games. My system just hard locks minutes in.
    The other problem I have is fan control. Manual fan control through CCC doesn't work. If I tick the "Manual Fan Control" checkbox and try to move the slider and hit "Apply", the fan immediately jumps to 100% speed regardless of where the slider is. Unchecking "Manual Fan Control" leaves the fan running at 100% for a few minutes before it starts slowing down. MSI's own Afterburner utility doesn't even let me move the fan slider (odd, because it lets me do it on my Diamond HD5870).
    My PSU is overqualified to run this card. I've run it through OCCT's 1 hour test with no problems. Same deal with my CPU/RAM overclocks: they've endured hours of Prime95 as well as OCCT with no issues at all. My mobo's BIOS is updated to the last version. I don't think it's a hardware problem.
    I've tried:
    -Using my old 5870 to uninstall ALL ATI software and drivers, then running CCleaner and Driver Sweeper to get rid of all ATI driver remnants. Shutting off the PC, switching to my R5970, and installing brand new drivers.
    -Using a spare drive with a fresh installation of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bits to try and get the card to run.
    -Underclocking the card to see if it ran stable.
    -Returning my CPU/RAM to stock values.
    -Checking all connectors, trying different PSU connectors, and physically examining the card for any signs of damage.
    I made a similar thread over at Anandtech asking for help: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?p=29817320#post29817320
    You can go check it out if you want to find out all the stuff I've tried.  About the only thing I haven't tried is flashing the video card BIOS, but there's nothing to flash it too! AFAIK there is only one version of MSI's BIOS for the R5970.
    Basically, I'm sort of stuck with a $700 paper weight right now. The few seconds (or minutes) the card manages to run, FPS is sky high and it works like it's supposed to. It always causes a hard lock when GPU temps are nearing 75C though, although I've tried "manually" changing the fan speed to 100% and it still crashes after what seems like a set amount of time. This is all at stock values, mind you. I haven't tried OCing at all. I'm just baffled at the whole thing, as the card is clearly capable of running like it should, it just seems like it can't handle running like it should for more than a few seconds or minutes in some cases. To me, it really seems like the card is borked. Oh yes, the VDDCI Phase #1 sensor doesn't work, reporting a flat 0 on GPU-Z.
    Any ideas before I contact the person that helped me buy this card to arrange for a return?

    My MSI HD5970 is working like it should, tested it all day.
    I used MSI Afterburner and MSI Kombustor to watch the temps on full load, the fan is working and no problems.
    (at 65C, 70C, 75C, 80C the fan goes faster, 81C was my max temp on full load)
    Maybe i am lucky

  • Airport disconnects when there's more than one device

    I've got a really weird problem.. I have an Apple Airport Extreme 802.11n 3rd Generation. Software version 7.6 When more than one device connecrts to the base station it will disconnect everyone and then all devices will go into a connect/disconnect loops. Rapidly. This occurs only with wireless device. I watched the radar on my iPhone (5.1), Macbook running Snow Leopard, Macbook Air running Lion, and iPad 2 (5.1) blinking on and off, on and off. The only way to resolve this is to just have ONE person connect at a time.
    Things I've tried:
    1) Updating all software on all devices
    2) Updating Airport firmware
    3) Reboot and then restoring factory settings on the Airport when the reboot didn't work
    4) Turning off encryption (WP2)
    5) Making sure there are enough IP's for all the devices, turning off robustness, making sure the router is visible.
    Because I know someone will ask this: The Airport sits atop a credenza in the open air. Nothing on, around, or above it. It's been in this position for months with no problem. It's not overly warm to the touch and I even used compressed air to blow out the vents (just in case) when this problem began.
    I read once upon a time that the router gets a cache built up and that can cause these types of issues, but I have no idea how to delete said cache or even if it exists. It's just odd this only happens when more than one wireless device tried to connect to the network.
    Thoughts?

    I've resolved this! For some odd reason Apple won't let me denote this so I'm adding this reply. Turns out the problem was POWER related. The Airport was plugged into a power strip with several other devices. I unplugged all of those leaving just the Airport and the problem has not returned. If I add on all the devices, regardless of the power strip used, the problem returns. So it appears the Airport was just not getting enough power.
    I've got it on a UPS now and the problem has not returned.

  • When waking up from standby, monitors power up but no picture is displayed. HP ENVY Phoenix h9

    Product: HP ENVY Phoenix h9 PC Series
    Product #: H3Y51AA#BL
    Model: h9-1387
    OS: Windows 8 64-bit
    Monitors: DELL 2407WFPHC x 2
    Updated graphics drivers to latest non-beta version.
    Hello,
    Since purchasing my PC a few months ago, there has been one "display" problem after another. This is the current problem:
    When stepping away from my computer, I lock it via Win+L and shortly after my monitors turn off. When returning a short time later, I attempt to wake up (But not really "wake up"... To try and fix previous display problems, I've already disabled hibernation and sleep options) my computer by moving my mouse. This causes the monitors to exit standby and power up, but all that is dispalyed is black screens when I should have been presented with the login screen.
    Mouse and keyboard clicks do nothing and I'm stuck at black screens. To continue, I press my PC's power button which causes the hard drives to spin-up and shortly after the computer turns off. I press the power button again and the computer boots to the login screen where once I enter my password, Windows loads and all my programs etc are displayed as they were before I locked my PC.
    You can see previous problems I've had listed below, hopefully they will also help you detect the cause of the current problem.
    Please help.
    Thanks!
    Peter
    Previous problems that I've had:
    1) When waking from hibernation, the computer would not wake monitors from standby leaving no way to login and save work. Hard reboot required. Solution: Disable Windows hibernation features.
    2) Error along the lines of "Display driver failed and have recovered". Possible solution: Disabled hardware acceleration in Firefox.
    3) When waking from standby, I find my 2 monitors have merged into one, and at a different resolution than normal. Once entering password to login, programs that were on seperate monitors are now on the same monitor. Right-clicking the desktop and selecting "Screen Resolution" -> "Detect" would set the monitors back to normal until the problem occurs again. Possible solution: Updated graphics card driver. Not sure if this problem has been fixed, it may have just been covered up by the new problem mentioned above.
    This question was solved.

    Hey peterallcdn,
    I'm sorry you're running into this resuming from sleep issue. Sometimes services that are trying to resume can cause issues like this. I would suggest trying a clean boot (booting with only essential system services running) and then seeing if it resumes from sleep properly.
    Here are the steps to disable non-critical services:
    1. Windows + Q to bring up Search
    2. Type 'msconfig' and press Enter
    3. Click the Services Tab
    4. Check the Hide All Microsoft Services box
    5. Click the Disable All button
    6. Click Apply and Restart
    When you restart Windows should only load essential system services, no 3rd party software. Lock the computer and let it go into sleep mode as you usually do and then try to resume from sleep. Let  me know what the result of that is.
    I have seen other cases where Google Talk or antivirus programs will prevent the computer from resuming properly.

  • Some RST are seen during TCP disconnection when using SSL connection

    Some RST are seen during TCP disconnection when using SSL connection
    It is expected that the disconnection sequence for a secure connection to be as follow:
    client ************************* server
    --- alert (warning, close notify) --->
    <--- alert (warning, close notify) ---
    in any order;
    and then:-

    I agree it should be an ACK not an RST but it doesn't really matter. The connection is closed, and as neither the client nor the server has any pending data it is benign. Worth investigating in a later JRE.

  • Need help - wifi gets disconnected when it goes to sleep mode - iOS 6, iPhone 5, WPA Enterprise

    Hi, I have read a lot of discussions regarding wifi gets disconnected when it goes to sleep mode on iOS 6, mainly on iPhone 5.
    Here is my configuration and it just keeps disconnecting wifi connection once it goes to sleep mode
    iOS 6
    iPhone 5 white
    Purchased on Nov 3
    Work wifi config: WPA Enterprise
    I tried to manual add the wifi but it did not work. I tried all except for upgrade to iOS 6.0.1. I had a call to Apple Support and the guy told me I could not trust everything i read from here (well, how dare he is!!!). But I did all I could think of, and read from here.
    I am with ATT and I do not have a receiption at all at work. I have to turn it to airplane mode, and use the wifi connection. I put my iPhone 4 with iOS 5.0 side-by-side to compare. My iPhone with iOS 5.0 DOES NOT disconnect the wifi connection when it goes to sleep mode; but of course, we all know, iPhone 5 with iOS 6.0 does
    Any helps would be so much appreaticated. I am considering to return the phone to apple store, and cancel my 2 yrs extended contract with ATT. I might think to get another one once they have the issue fixed. It is no point to have an expensive paper-weight at work while I can't use the celluare nor wifi connection.
    Thanks again,

    Hi ChrisJ4203
    I have tested it at home wifi tonight. My phone and my wife's iphone (both iPhone 5 with iOS 6.0) do the same.
    With cellular data on (aka airplane mode OFF) with WIFI ON
    Wifi icon replaced by ATT's LTE icon once the phone was waken up from sleep mode; but within 2 secs, the wifi connection got reconnected again.
    With cellular data OFF (aka airplane mode ON) with WIFI ON
    WIFI icon disappeared from the top bar after both phones were waken up from sleep mode. It took a while to reconnect to the wifi network (more than 10 seconds).
    On a separate note, after i rebooted my phone, i can see it does "searching" the ATT's signal, then it shows "No Service", then next second, it shows ATT with full bars and LTE icon.
    My question is, i have never noticed the "No Service" showing up from my iPhone 4. The "No Service" shows up on my wife's phone too. When I first got her phone and was doing the installation, I had noticed the cell signal dropped from full bars to no service, then within few seconds, it went back up. I have not had time to test on her phone again, but it is something I will be monitoring for. I wonder if anyone has similar experience like this.
    anyhow, any feedback on how to fix the wifi got disconnected while in sleep mode would be very helpful.
    thanks,

    P.S. When I look at my Playlists most of the songs are greyed out.  However, at the bottom of the list there is a cloud icon with a downward facing arrow.  When I click on it each song starts to "load" and after a few minutes I have the songs back on in the list.  I have to do this to all my playlists (I had over 100) in order to get access to all my songs.  Then I did a sync and it happened again!
    I use iCloud for documents and some other things (calendar, contact, etc.) but am not aware that I have anything music-wise in the cloud.  Any thougnts?

    You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.

    I am trying to implement a very simple class that will create

    disconnect when the swf is published. My code is as follows...
    FLA Code:
    import _includes.*;
    var obj_conn:Conn = new Conn();
    obj_conn.connect();
    Conn.as Code:
    class _includes.Conn
    public function Conn()
    public function connect()

    nc.connect("rtmp://localhost/classtest");
    Please note that the connection works fine if I just create a

    it think this is happen because you use local variable : your
    variable is delete at the end of connect() so your NetConnection
    will be closed in the same time.
    try this:
    Conn.as Code:
    class _includes.Conn

    public function Conn()
    public function connect()
    this.objNetCon = new NetConnection();
    this.objNetCon.connect("rtmp://localhost/classtest");

  • Magic Mouse Disconnecting When Closing MacBook Pro Using External Display

    I have a 2009 MacBook Pro. I am trying to use it in sleep mode with an Apple wireless keyboard and a Magic Mouse. Everything appears to be connected fine. When I close the lid on my MacBook, I click my mouse and the external display comes on for a few seconds, then it cuts out and doesn't come back. I have the Bluetooth device can wake the computer up from sleep checked. When I have the MacBook open, the external display works fine. I only lose the external display a few seconds after I close the lid on my MacBook Pro.
    I have made the Magic Mouse and keyboard favorites and it didn't help.
    Does anyone have any idea? I am running 10.6.8.
    Thanks

    GaryKing, can you review how you reset the .plist files for both the Bluetooth keyboard and mouse?
    I had nothing but good things to say about the Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, until I hooked up my 22' Samsung display to my MBP. Power shouldn't be an issue because it's being plugged into the outlet and the external monitor isn't taking power from the MBP. However, my keyboard will keep popping up with the notice "Connection Lost" every 5 or so minutes. Even now, I'm already on the next paragraph but the letters are slowly coming up one by one - it's not registering as fast.
    The mouse experienced the same issue if I'm downloading a lot of files, it will lag behind to the point where I'll drag the mouse to where I want it to be, then a few seconds later it'll pop up where it should, that's how bad the lag is. I thought perhaps restarting the computer will do, but no, and also everything is up-to-date so there are no updates to worry about.
    GaryKing, if you can go over how you reset the .plist files, that would be much appreciated. By the way, it's past a week since your post, how have the Bluetooth devices been working? Did the reset solve the lag issue permanently, or was is just a temporary fix?
