R705-P25 Win8

Hi, I have a question about my laptop. Anyone knows if it will be supported for windows 8 update?
According to the list of computers ready for win8, this model is not metioned
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/bulletin.jsp?ct=SB&soid=3495677&ref=EV
Thank you so much

It doesn't look like drivers have been released for that model yet.  I have an R705-P25 as well.  I have thought about installing a spare HDD, and loading Win8 release preview, just to mess around with.  If I do, I will post my results in the Win8 section.

  • Missing hdd password in bios

    Hello everyone,
I have Toshiba Portege R705-P25 (pt314u-00u014) equipped with Toshiba hard disk drive MK5065GSX and installed power-on password on that HDD. Password that I know and I can start up computer.
Problem is there is no longer any option in Bios nor Windows7(64bits) that allows me to change/disable that password.
I cannot access this hard disc drive in any other way than as primary device in my laptop. USB-Sata maybe do not allow password protected drives.
I was trying starting that HDD in a regular computer but unfortunately even entering correct password message said it is not valid.
I have latest bios and all upgrades to W7.
I want to install SSD and use this drive as an USB option.
Thank You in advance for any help.

If the HDD password was set on that computer, then it has to be disabled on that computer.  When going into BIOS, there should be a "Security" tab, and in that tab, there should be an option to change the HDD password.  You input the correct password, and then in the "new password" and "confirm" fields, just hit enter to have no password, and that should unlock it.
I haven't personally heard of the option disappearing from the BIOS menus.

  • Crash dump while streaming video

Hi. I've got a Toshiba Portege R705-P25 laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium that's about 3 years old. Recently while I'm streaming a movie/video the computer will sometimes "crash dump" (a blue screen with buzzing sound + text indicating it's "crash dumping" to prevent damage to the machine - which lasts for about 10 seconds until the computer restarts). Any ideas on what I could do in order to fix/prevent this in the future?
    Thanks much for advice.

  • Lid flex and bezel cracking Portege

My laptop is less than 10 months old (R705-P25) and has been pampered since purchase. There has never been the slightest impact or damage to it. The bezel on the left and right side of the screen has developed thin horizontal cracks in the same location just below the rubber bumpers. The left side crack propagated upward and caused the left bumper to drop off. I now have a piece missing (the bumper and surrounding area) on the left side, and a thin crack on the right. I have read other posts about the lid flex with the portege models and strongly believe this is the root cause for this issue (Lid flex and brittle materials used in the bezel). Toshiba insists this is physical damage, and not a manufacturing defect or design flaw. I love the laptop, but feel they may have sacrificed durability for weight. Has anyone else experienced this issue with a portege?

i have a portege R830. Owned it for maybe 6 months. Also have taken great care of it very well. Overall happy with it but one of the usb ports stopped working after a month and the bezel cracked, similar to the other comments in this thread. Picture is attached. While these cracks are too common in the manufacture of thin wall molded plastic, they are nearly 100% avoidable. Toshiba should pony up and replace these defective parts free of charge.

  • H61M-P25(B3) Intel display drivers always crashing.

I am running the system as described in my sig.  This system is triple booting either Linux, Win 7 Pro or Win 8 Pro.  The problem I am describing is only relating to Win 8 Pro.
When booted in Win 8 Pro, this system is very reliable when staying in the Metro UI.  As soon as I switch to the traditional Desktop, very odd things occur.
    1) Random speckled pixels.  The symptoms usually start with this.
    2) Desktop apps take a longer and longer time to respond. At this stage I know it is time to reboot.
    3) igfx drivers will crash, either causing a BSOD, a restart of the igfx drivers or a total system lock.
I have run the MSI update tool, and all drivers are up-to-date.
Can anyone advise on how I can prevent the Intel display drivers crashing in Windows 8?
    Thanks
    MM

    I don't trust Live Update, download the drivers and install manually;

  • How to remove windows 7 safely from my dual boot win7/win8 pc ?

i have a pc which is dual boot with windows 7 ultimate 64 bit & windows 8 pro 64 bit, my pc had four drives C: D: E: F:, windows 7 is on "D:" drive & windows 8 is on C: drive(i had set win8 as current & default OS), now when i opened
disk management i found that the D: drive where win7 is residing is marked as
system, active, primary partition, now i don't want win7 anymore , i want only win8 on my pc, i want to format & get back clean empty D drive to use for other stuff (i don't want to delete the D drive partition), can any one explain me the steps
    needed to achieve this safely.

Since you've selected as default OS as Windows 8.1 you can go to disk management console and format the drive as required.
You can remove the Win 7 entry from boot loader:
    To launch msconfig:
    Click Start
In the Search text box, type msconfig
Launch msconfig by selecting it from the search results above the search text box.
    After msconfig is launched:
    Go to the Boot tab
Slect the boot entry you want to delete.
Click the Delete button and then click OK.

  • Update frome win8 to win 8.1 error oxc1900101 - ox30018

I have purchased at Toshiba laptop including win8.
After release, I installed win 8.1 easily, following common procedure. It worked perfectly and I was quite happy with it.
Due to some hardware issues, I turned the laptop in for repair.
The motherboard was replaced with a new one, and win 8 was reinstalled when I got the laptop back.
Obviously, I wanted to update to 8.1 once again.
This is where all my problems started.
Apparently the update is being installed, but at 95% of the install process done, it stops and reinstall win8 again.
The error codes oxc1900101 - ox30018 are displayed on the screen.
I have now spent months reading on that same problem online, and tried a lot the proposed solution, but with no luck.
I found many many people who had trouble updating, so clearly, there IS a problem with win 8.1
I have called Microsoft support, who said that Toshiba was responsible.
    Toshiba says to contact Microsoft...
Microsoft wants me to pay 99$ for support, so they will fix it.
But it is supposed to be a FREE and very easy update - why would I pay for that?
I have tried to update drivers, clean start, reinstalled win8 a lot of times, uninstalled anti virus and anti malware, went into bios and disabled usb3, used lan cable instead of wi-fi and many more things, but the same error code still appears every time.
I really hope someone can help me - PLEASE PLEASE!
I don't think it is fair, that I have to buy a new license for win8.1

    H Dennis,
When you roll back to the Windows 8, did it work fine? Was it activated? OEM's license is binding with motherboard.
If you change motherboard, it will not be activated.
Please contact Toshiba to activate it. Then try to upgrade.
The most cause is the hardware compatibility. This guide will be help you check if your computer meet its requirement:

  • Satellite C855D-S5302 problem with win8

I recently bought new Satellite C855D-S5302 after retiring my 12 year old Satellite after excellent service. BUT this new one comes with Windows 8 installed and that is just not cutting it for me.
Often when moving the cursor to the left, the charms screen pops up and the cursor goes nowhere until I click elsewhere. It has frozen several times so I had to restart by holding the power button down, and it doesn´t work as well with my Motorola Razr smartphone as the old XP did. I believe MS are trying to copy the Android OS but they do it terribly. Anyway, I have been searching for a way to downgrade my NEW computer to Windows 7 or something else, but haven´t found a way to do that. And according to Toshiba homepage, this model hasn´t been qualified to run Win8. So what should I do? Return the computer to the supplier? And tell everyone not to buy Toshiba? I´d rather not but I am running out of options.
Is there an Operating system available from Android for this computer?
    Please help me.

Windows 8 freeze and has software compatibility issues..... on c855d family machines. I have two of them both freeze lock up bought them at Walmart... Downgraded to Windows 7 pro had 5 devices having problems but after Microsoft update ran three long running updates some of them self resolved except for two of them SM bus controller and USB controller... To my confusion the driver seem to have loaded under device manager or installed default or generic drive for that device..... What need is drivers for those devices...Please help
PS.. I AM not impressed with Windows 8 and dont like it hope window 9 is better

  • T61 32-bit XP to 64-bit Win8 - general approach that may work for other models

I recently tried to upgrade my T61 from 32-bit to 64-bit Win 8 using the $39.99 download.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME TRYING THIS, IT WILL FAIL.  HOWEVER, IF YOU PURCHASE THE $69.99 VERSION WITH BOTH 32-bit AND 64-bit MEDIA YOU CAN DO IT (no downloadable 64-bit ISO to burn your own.)
    Lessons learned:
    1. Although not "spec"ed officially, a T61 will take 8 GB of RAM (2 x 4 GB modules).
    2. The $39.99 download gives you the version you have - if 32-bit, it is not smart enough to ask you if you want 64-bit.  After 2 hours of download and install, you will end up with 32-bit Win 8.  Therefore, bite the bullet and buy the $69.99 hard media once (time *is* money).  You can buy additional $39.99 upgrades on-line - all you need is the  serial # to use with your original "hard media" - it can be used with either the 32- or 64-bit.
    3. The actually ugrade went much better than expected.  By going from 32-bit to 64-bit I got a clean install.  Win 8 had drivers for virtually all devices except one - the SIMM stick driver for the Ricoh 4-in-1 card reader.  This was identified after floating the error code out on Google.  See the following to tell you what device(s) is (are) missing  - www.pcidatabase.com
    4. I usually partition my disk into C: (active), D: (disk image and data back-up , internal), and E: (utilties and OS ISO's to do an internal restore).  I always clone all 3 partitions to an external drive incase of complete HD failure.  This became essential after one trial instal of Win8 32-bit (before I figure it out), I ended up with CHKDSK's in XP on virtually every reboot with no errors found ??!!  In other words, assume nothing...
    5. The new version of System Update 5 is of virtually no use for a T61 - the only driver/utility identified was Active System Protection for 64-bit.
    6. So what is the alternative to System Update?  There are several device driver updaters out there - like Slim Device, Driver Doctor, Driver Reviver, Driver Genius, etc., etc.  I ran several and they seem to find most of more specific drivers.  Just remember some drivers are 32- or 64-bit specific, others one driver works for both.  In general Win 7 drivers will work for Win 8 (or so I understand).
    7. Fixing the Metro UI, no Start Button / Start Menu problem.  What can I say, I hate the new UI - I am a developer/statsitician and have work to do.  There is an answer - a "shell" that can immediately replace the Start screen  with a Desktop, Start button, and Start menu of your choice of styles Win 2K, XP, and on.  There are several of these.  I have used Classic Shell (classicshell.sourceforge.net).  There are several others.  Is it perfect? - no, but I now have a functional system that I can use all 8 GB, loads relatively quickly (faster than 32-bit XP with 3 GB of RAM enabled out of 4.)
    8. Older software *does* work.  I still use Office 2003, SPSS 12, Stata 8, and contrary to MS' effort to get you to the latest Office, for my purposes, these are compatable.
    9. Would it work for the T4x series?  I don't see why not.  As I mentioned, the included driver database seemed pretty functional.  The real question is whether the Pentium M series is compatible; you'd have to try.  I do know that MS tried to tell me that the Core Duos in the T6x series were not, but that is why I gave up with MS support after hours on the phone (again, time *is* money).
Bottom line - once again MS rolls out an OS with no clue.  On the other hand if this if Win 7.5 and is relatively stable, then it just might be worth the effort.
    Good luck!

    More details:
When attempting recovery, the exact error message is: "The recovery attempt has failed. Select one of the following buttons: Save Log, Details, Retry". Save log supposedly saves the log to a USB stick, but the file (HP_SSRD_LOG.CAB) is only 2 KB and doesn't want to open as a CAB file. Retry just starts the hours-long process again - with the same result.
Clicking the "Details" button gives me a log (CTOERROR.flg):
    [ 2:08:20.17] ChkErrBB.CMD :  Detect some error during PININST_BBV.
    [ 2:08:20.17] ChkErrBB.CMD :  Check c:\system.sav\logs\BurnBootWarn.log
    [ 2:08:20.17] ChkErrBB.CMD :  or, check c:\system.sav\logs\BurnBootMerge.log
How's that for most useless log entry ever? Especially since c:\system.sav seems to be a hidden directory, and the Notepad window showing the current log won't display hidden files... and when I pull out the hard drive and inspect the directory structure, there aren't any files by that name...
There is, however, a BurnBootMergeBBV1.log file, containing a couple of interesting lines:

    Result=FAILED
No idea if that's related or not. I'd still like to try updating the BIOS; if anyone can create a USB thumbdrive with the BIOS on it (using a Win8 machine) and post the files it contains, I'd really appreciate it.

  • Problems with plugins after upgrading to win8

    Hi
I made the upgrade to Windows 8 and now several PS plugins causes Photoshop CS6 to "Stop Working And need to close". I have uninstalled
and reinstalled plugins and still the same problem. As this happens with different plugins from different vendors I am led to believe this is
not a 3rd party problem, but rather a problem with PS in win8. Happens with plugins from Niksoft and RedGiant. Needless to say I have
all the latest software and updates - legally purchased.
I haven't done much research into this, posting here is my first step after googeling didn't help. Is this a common problem? Does anyone
know a fix to this? It's of such importance that I am already considering reinstalling win7.

    As an update on this,
After I installed the latest Windows Update system fix packages that were released today most of the plugins now work. I am not 100% sure I can credit MS with fixing this, as I fiddled with alot with my graphics card trying to make this work at the same time as I updated. I will have to do some more testing on this to able to say exactly what was the problem.
I'm installing win7+ps on a virtual machine so I can use that when absolutely needed for the plugins still not working - guess I can live with that until certain 3rd party vendors sort things out.
Allright Noel, I get your point  - but you have to be downright difficult to be reading my initial question as if I was seeking support on 3rd party software as such.
