I am very happy with my Portege R835, except for the sata-issue....severely limiting my SSD speed, as I as many others bought this computer specifically because I thought it supported Sata 3. It is absolutely horrific of Toshiba to limit the sata speeds without telling their customers about it!! They will definitely lose thousands of customers on this rather stupid move of theirs. Unbelievable!! Why ruin such a good computer. Sell customers a Ferrari not telling them it's speed limited to 80mph. Toshiba; be up front about such vital information to your customers!!!

  • Does MBP 2011 use SATA III(HDD)

Does it? So can i use SATA III SSD later? Thanks

Impossible to answer right now until Apple publishes the specifications. I'd recommend you keep checking the Specifications Page, I'm not sure when it will be up though. The reason I'm thinking that is looking at current machines it only says Serial ATA. Another avenue is going to an Apple Store to ask or contacting the online Apple Store. The online store's phone number is listed in the upper left of the store's web page.

  • On my Macbook pro 15 2011, System Profiler is suggesting that it uses SATA III for the hard drive and SATA II for the Optical Drive.  Is that true?

On my Macbook pro 15, 2011, System Profiler is suggesting that it uses SATA III for the hard drive and SATA II for the Optical Drive.  Is that true?

That is correct. The tech specs indicate:
    Hard Drive Interface
    6.0 Gbps Serial ATA (SATA)
    Optical Drive Interface
3.0 or 6.0 Gbps Serial ATA (SATA)

I created a new library so I can use it for just my music, but now my ipod will only sync to my old library and not the new one I created, even though I'm in the new library when I open itunes.  Any solutions?

The point is that there are four i product users for one computer in my house, and not everyone wants the same music on their device.  Like I said before, the ipod is not syncing to the new library even though I plug it in when the new itunes library is pulled up.  It keeps syncing to the old library...

For that Nikon model you need ACR 8.3 that means CS6 or CC.  Or you can download the DNG converter convert your Nikon RAW files to Adobe RAW files. And then process the Adobe RAW files with CS5 ACR version  6.7

  • Does dv6-6153cl support SATA III HDDs?

I'm having trouble with my laptop and I think I've narrowed the problem down to the HDD. I want to replace it, and upgrade it, but I'm not sure what HDDs I can use.
I'd like to know if I can install a SATA III HDD into my dv6-6153cl laptop. From what I can tell it currently has a SATA II HDD installed. Can I upgrade to SATA III or am I stuck with SATA II?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Get the SATA-III. Even if the motherboard would only support SATA-II (not true in your case) you can use SATA-III drives. SATA is fully backward compatible. But, again, your motherboard has the HM65 chipset which supports SATA-III. A good rule of thumb is if it has USB 3.0 it also has SATA-III. Not 100% true but awfully close to always true.

  • Does DV6-6136tx support SATA III?

I just bought this DV6-6136tx a week ago and I'm wondering if i can use SATA III SSD on it.
The chipset is HM65 which should be able to support SATA III.
I want to confirm this before I upgrade my harddrive to SSD.

    Thank Kamat & Pepe.
I heard that there is a difference between the cable for SATA II and SATA III.
Do you know the connector within this laptop is installed for SATA III or only for SATAII as Kamat said?
And by the way, are you guys from HP?
The SATA III connectors may have more pins than SATA II but because SATA III is compatible with SATA II the connectors look like the same. I believe that SATA III connectors in Sandy Bridge laptops are installed for a hard drive and for an optical drive. I mean 2 different cables from 2 SATA III ports on the motherboard..
Yes, Kamat works for HP, but I don't..

  • Is hp dv6001tx SATA III enabled?

As from the subject. Is dv6001tx sata 3 enabled as I am planning on upgrading my laptop with a sata 3 ssd. thanks

    Hi,
SATA III is backward compatible with SATA II therefore you can use SATA III for your machine w/o any problem. Only you have to pay abit more but detting no benefit.
    1. Download this program, install it on your machine and run it,
    2. Click the controller icon (red circle) and then the controller itself (3Gb/s is SATA II).
    3. Check bottom part, it should tell you all:
    Regards.

  • Z87 Mpower Giving Only SATA ii, Not SATA iii

SATA iii not working. All the latest drivers except intel_rst and intel_vga installed ("incompatible with system").
Recently fresh installed Windows 8.1 UEFI. Noticed that Samsung's software said that it's running only SATA ii. Verfied with Crystaldisk.
Am I missing something to enable SATA iii? I feel like I'm missing something incredibly simple, but I can't find it.
    System:
    MSI Z87 Mpower
    Intel i7-4770k not overclocked
    Corsair Dominator Platinum 16 GB 2133 C9
MSI 760 4 GB with hybrid bios
Boot Disk: Samsung 840 pro 256 GB with UEFI Windows 8.1
Also running WD 300 GB Velociraptor, 2 TB WD Black, Intel 80 GB SSD with UEFI Ubuntu install; all hard drives using sata iii cables included with the motherboard; all drives on ports 0-5 (Z87 controller)

As a followup in case it's of any assistance to anyone, the problem solved itself, presumably through one of the many live updates from MSI.
I now have full SATA III.
Thank you flobelix for your time and assistance.

This topic has been moved to Intel Core-iX boards.

The problem appears to be the drive (WD WD1002FAEX 1TB).
It is a firmware issue with the HDD (or the drive itself is faulty). WD may have a fix for it. Your revision is possibly a 01 series, & the 05 series work fine. I will search for the thread with the exact revisions details & edit my post with it.
    Quote
They found that there are two versions of WD1002FAEX in the market. They are with firmware version either 01.01v01 or 05.01D05. The Marvell chipset can detect SATA III (6Gb/s) for the WD1002FAEX with 05.01D05 but only 3Gb/s for WD1002FAEX with 01.01v01.

  • Is Tecra R840-16J SATA III capable?

    Hi,
Just to ask about SATA compatibility! Is my R840-16J SATA III capable?
    Thanks,
    paulo

    Hi
SATA-III was introduced in the Sandy Bridge chipset (Intel Series 6 with 2nd generation Core i CPU's).
The notebook seems to be equipped with the Mobile Intel(R) QM67 Express Chipset.
These chipset supports SATA 6 Gbit/s for 2 Ports and 3 Gbit/s for 4 Ports.
But the SATA controller is also down compatible so you could use SATA III SSD drive or HDD in connection with SATA II controller too.

  • Slow SATA III

Hello all, first time poster here.  I have a new system built with the following specifications:
MSI Z68A-GD65 (I have updated the Bios once, pretty sure it is on the most recent Bios currently)
    Intel I5 2500k
    2 Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
    2 Seagate ST2000DM001
    SeaSonic X750
EVGA GeForce GTX560 Ti 448 Cores CLASSIFIED
    2 Asus DRW-24B1ST
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
I have set up the two hard drives in Raid 1, then partitioned into two drives (All through the Intel Raid).
I have my system completely up and running with no problems, beyond my hard drives are running slowly.  I am getting a 5.9 through windows rating.  I have ran HD Tune and I am seeing roughly a min of 50 max of 150 (I am at work, will try to run tonight and post the screenshots).
I have never tried to install Sata III drives before, did I miss a step?
    Thanks
Edit: Also, I am using Sata III cables (Silverstone Tek 180 Degree SATA III Cable with Non-Scratch Locking Mechanism)

I'm not famular with that RAID controller.
Some are "real" independent controllers, some are not.
    Anyway, 5.9 is normal.
I have WD blue 500 GB hDDs in a RAID 0 that does much better.
Hard to believe it's only because I'm 0 and you are 1 but maybe so.
    My HDtune results.
These are on basic sata cables.
Test have shown there is no differeance between a sata III cable or a regular quality made sata I cable except a locking mechanism.
BTW, my drives are partitrioned also for an XP/win 7 dual boot.
5.9 is my score like yours.
I've read that there are technologies incorported in some drives that allow them to call them a higher sata number.
It's not speed alone that puts HDDs in a sata catagory.
As BAS said, platter drives are much slower by virtue of old tecnology.

  • Can i install sata III hard drive?

Hi, i've an iMac G5 20" iSight with an intel core duo 2ghz. I would like to know if  i can install a sata III hard drive like 128GB Crucial m4 2.5" SSD.
    Thx a lot.

First, you do not have an iMac G5. G5s are PPC machines, but yours is an Intel model.
You can install a SATA III drive but I would not spend the money since your model only supports SATA I or SATA II depending on which model you have. I would also be careful about using Crucial SSDs because they may not all work in a Mac. I would get your SSD at OWC instead. You will find their equivalent product for SATA I or SATA II here. I have two of these drives, and they are excellent.

Apple are likely to use different batches and makes even in the same model Mac. However I believe the above Hitachi drive to be a SATA II which is 3.0Gbps.
You should not pay too much attention to that however. Not only is this only a 5400 rpm drive (slow) but any single physical hard disk cannot come even close to fully loading a SATA interface. You only need to worry about this if you get a SSD drive and even then you might need to have a RAID0 stripped array to merit a SATA III 6.0Gbps interface.

  • P55A-GD65 Can not see Sata III drive

I can not get the bios to see my 250gig sata III. I have it connected to sata#7 white connector.
I tried to first see it, no go. I am trying to fresh install w7 hp upgrade 64bit to my new sata III drive. I can not find the drive. I do not know if it is bad or what?
I set Integrated peripherals- sata 6g/s controller mode to ahci, and in on-chip ata devices raid mode set it to ahci. I tried to install w7 from disc. It just Says I have made a hardware change. Try to do a repair start or start as normal. Then said my boot sector was messed up. I pressed  reset and got into bios and set it all back to ide mode.
It would not start normal. But from page it says try w7 disc etc. I told it to start windows normally it did, I have rebooted So I guess it fixed the boot sector..
I am not sure what to do. I can not find the drive, and no place in my bios can I find the sata 7-8 connectors. they are listed as 1-6 and 9.. everything skips 7-8. I am in w7 now. I could do the reg tweak. I want to fresh install w7 upgrade on my new sata III drive. then nuke this sata II and make it a storage drive..
Maybe I need to press a key with w7 disc in  during restart. I can not figure out how to make Let me reinstall w7. I did press F6 but I did not know what to do. Upgrading from xp was pretty easy. This sata III and  mobo and w7 is a head ake. It is no simple instructions no place to make this stuff work right. Ha ha the manual is no help either.
I do not know if maybe the drive is bad or not. I never had to do this stuff in bios just to install a drive, and then controllers 7-8 show no place. I do not know what to do..

    Follow up.
My cam batteries are acting up. Sorry not better photo'. The second photo. I changed out my speakers set up etc, and its photo was with our cam corder, it has no flash.. The top 5.25 bay filter is a test. I need better materials to make a better 1, but it works well, not so pretty tho. If I relax the pantyhose, It looks a lot better, is black. You can not see through it, but less air flow...
The blower box mod I made from a gutted opt drive, uses the rest of the 5.25 bay cage as the lower sides of the box. The top side, the actual gutted opt drive, I used my zig saw, cut along the sides from the top and back end. So it was free to bend down. You can not see from the photo, but it is down just above the top of the mobo tray, and extends out past the back side of the 5.25 cage. With both downward blowing air and is more compressed or moves faster because the top is bent down etc. I cut off the access on the side so not to go past the 5.25 cage. Made a face plate to mount the fan [can crank 103 cfm] to the other end of the gutted opti. It is easy in out, uses my normal case mounting gear, and is flush with the front of the case. The filter and or front cover are separate. I need to make a better filter frame. But it works. I like it for now.. My twin p160 case has the same set up, but using a 80mm face plate and fan, and being a normal 5.25 opti drive as it base, they can go case to case, most all cases have a 5.25 cage, so. I could use this on the lian li case below and just mount a normal fan filter right to the face plate..>>
Build #2, my buds rig, was a snap to build. Not 1 fault in the entire build from- view reliability history. The large case was nice to work in.. Both systems running great and with AHCI support.
Ha ha I got them running perfect in spite of ?
