R9 280x restart

Hello.I recently bought a used Msi R9 280x 3G,i used to have a nvidia 8800gts 512mb and i wanted to upgrade.I bought the used card very cheap and when i got it i installed it.I unistalled the old nvidia drivers and installed the new card. The problem began when i benchmark my new card with metro 2033.When the benchmark started i got my first restart after a few seconds running the benchmark.I thought that it was nothing and tried again, but every time i got the same result.I tried some software that removes leftovers from the old gpu and it cleaned some.Things turned better but still after running a few metro 2033 benchmarks i get a restart. The same happends with tomb raider 2013 benchmark.I also tried some other games and the problem is that in some everything is fine and in some other i only get restarts. In Smite i get no restarts, but in games like Euro truck simulator 2 and in Nba 2k15 i get restarts.I tried formating my pc and installing windows 7 64 but the same happened again.I tried even the newest beta drivers for my card and still the same.My computer has a corsair 750w psu and i also checked the cables and i resit them as well.I also tried monitoring with the gpu-z and the highest temp before restarting was 77celcius.I also tried with msi afterburner to underclock my gpu but with the same results.I don't know what else i should do.Any help guys?

Seems like a faulty card OR vBIOS.
I would give updating vBIOS a shot, and if that doesn't help then RMA the card.
If you could post S/N of the card, Svet or someone else will be able to give you newer/different vBIOS for you to flash.

• Help!!! with 970A-G46 Bios Update / Asus R9 280x Dcu II

Ok so i recently got the Asus r9 280x dcu II card for ugrading and when i installed it, i started the computer, but i was not getting anything on my monitor. The computer works fine with my old gpu Radeon HD 7770, but when i installed this one, the computer would not post.
Im wondering if it is my motherboard bios that i need to update in order for it to post because i have not updated my bios yet and maybe the card only works if my motherboard is on the latest bios.
Also about the bios update. Last night i tried to update and i got to update to version 1.B0 (1.11). But i checked for new bios at the support download page for this board and saw that new versions were at the 2.0 level and the latest bios is version 2.6.
I tried to update the bios with the version 2.6 .exe file in a formatted flash drive but everytime the pc restarted, it would not go to the bios update screen. And also on the bios menu when i click on m fash it did not work it gave me a message which i cant remember right now.
I would appreciate the help.
Thanks

Yesss!!!! I got it to work. All i had to do was clear my cmos and it worked

• Temporary Solution for screen flicker r9 280x

After performing various tests I've fixed the screen flickering on my msi r9 280x, I hope this can be useful for all here with the same problem and with different patterns of R9 family, that I have running on my pc and I have not had even the slightest flicker playing youtube videos where the problem became acute.
1 open the task manager and end the process Catalyst Control Center: Monitoring program and also the Catalyst Control Center: Host Application.
2 Go to C: \ Users \ XXX \ AppData \ Local \ ATI \ ACE right click on the Profiles file, in the end the general menu select Read only, accept.
3 Again right click and select edit, and file searches within these lines
<Feature name="CoreVoltageTarget_PCI_VEN_1002&DEV_6798&SUBSYS_27751462&REV_00_4&320ACFF0&0&0010A">
<Property name = "Want_0" value = "850" /> CHANGE THIS VALUE OF 850 FOR 900 only
<Property name = "Want_1" value = "1200" />
This value changes the low voltage in 2d (resting) 0.85va 0.90v
4 then go to the File menu, select Save As, in writing profiles.xml nombe save.
5 Again right click on the profiles file saved on the desktop and select read-only
6 Go back to Go to C: \ Users \ XXX \ AppData \ Local \ ATI \ ACE and remove the profiles file.
7 copy or cut and paste into C profiles saved file to your desktop: \ Users \ XXX \ AppData \ Local \ ATI \ ACE.
8 Finally go to task manager and then click on file to run new task, we write MOM.exe there and ready, restart the pc for security.
to ensure that its voltage is at 0.90v use GPUZ and check the end of the sensors tab.
note that if we use the application msi afterburner not enable Unofficial Overclocking mode option because in themselves to have it on and change the clocks video card testing restores the voltage 0.85V.
when I play some games I use msi afterburner like msi Gaming app since I have experienced that without the Gaming app clocks fall then at 300mhz after making this process voltage, I recommend you use to see, as an example in msi afterburner I apply the core clocks of vga 1100 and Gaming active app one of the two profiles, the Gaming mode or the mode Oc down and watches only parameters selecionados 1020 mhz or 1050 mhz vga respectively when accelerating up to 1100 mhz selected msi afterburner.
I hope this is useful that I share as many as we can not believe that to date no actions are taken to this problem taking into account the value of the video card. Maybe this and many what they knew, but there will be many who do not and those like me tried in many ways to carry it out and not succeeded because that's how I achieved step by step and fully functional, sorry if some way I can not explain to clearly as I do not speak English and I'm using a translator, and hopefully serve them again, I just do it to help them all and hopefully once and for all of the annoying screen flicker go ...

• Green shaded monitor with an R9 280x

I am ising a 3gb R9 280x with two monitors i was playing a game and had youtube on on another monitor. suddenly one screen went green but i could still see the features. Then on the other monitor pixelated random lines started to come up. i immediatley restarted to pc thinking it was just caused by the software. then after the same thing the other monitor went green like the other. I have tried reinstalling the drivers, returning it to stock speeds and underclocking the card, making sure the cables are ok and using different cables and trying the monitors with a different pc. I am convinced that it is a gpu problem because there is no on board motherboard graphics. Note that the pc is working perfectly and performing normally but there is always a green cast on the monitor.
PS. i have already tried calibrating the monitors colours and its not that. should i try and send it in for repair on the warranty or does anyone have any suggestions

I have two cards, want to use them in crossfire but didn't install them both because I first wanted to get 1 running before inserting the second one. I tested them both and both have the boot problem. The cards are brand new and I read a lot of cases where people RMA the card to experience the same problem with a new one. I have two, how unlucky can I be if I have two broken cards... I don't have a second PC to test them, so no I didn't try them in an other PC. But I would first like to try everything possible before RMA'ing the cards. And also because Sapphire states the problem on their website.

I am giving everyone I find MY fix. Let me know if this post I put on another thread does it.
"I know this has been longer than 60 days. However I just wanted to post my fix for others in case its searched for. This has been so frustrating to figure out. My fix has been a variety of things such as clean installs of the drivers MANY MANY times. The final time I reinstalled the ATI's CCC driver 14.7 beta. I noticed that I unknowingly (by ignorance not action) installed MSI's version of CCC from there website as well. After (not) installing MSI's version on top it seemed to help but the clock speeds still fluctuated from 300MHZ- to the max 1020MHz continuously. After looking in the CCC I saw an option that caught my eye. "Alternate DVI Operational Mode" is checked by default on both screens options. So I unchecked it...applied changes.... VIOLA no more flicker and clock speeds have been stable for the past 5 hours. I however have not restarted my computer for fear it will return and I throw the computer out the window. This is atleast worth an attempt if you have the dreaded "Flicker" of the R9 280X.

Issue noticed: Flicker when running either one or two (Extended screen) monitors usually while browsing, schoolwork, or watching netflix (2D actions???) and less but still during StarCraft 2 game play. tried just about every forums suggestions except the one about changing a register key profile.

"Alternate DVI Operational Mode"
where I can find that option ?

• MSI R9 280x 3gb GAMES CRASH AND LINES DOWN MY SCREEN

I have been using the MSI r9 280x for sometime now, possible 7months and all has been good untill the other day; Playing CSGO My screen went to a set of lines running down and and a loop of the last noise I heard was playing over and over.
Only a hard restart of my PC would solve the issue; this occurred when also playing Wolfenstein: The New Order and Skyrim (tends to be high intensity games).
I have cleaned out my GPU, all of my fans, have tried to play these games on the older drivers and latest drivers and still the problem occurs.
It manages to last maybe 5minutes when I have my fans on 100%. I haven't overclocked or underclocked by GPU but still have the issue. I know it can possible be a GPU problem as I tested my GPU with furMark. As soon as I started a 1080p benchmark, my PC froze instantly and lines all down my screen again.
PC Specs:
CPU: AMD FX8320 Black Edition 8 Core 3.5
CPU Cooler: H100i Water Cooler
GPU: MSI Radeon r9 280x 3gb
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5
PSU: Modular CX750M ATX Power Supply - Bronze
RAM: (4x2) 8GB Kingston 1333hz DDR3
PC Case: Corsair Air 540 (2 basic fans at the front, 120mm corsair at the back)
PLEASE PLEASE I really need help on this, thank you!

Thank you for the Advice.
I ran into a second problem this morning, when on start-up or even loading Google chrome, the same problem occurred with lines all down my screen yet again.
I am currently using my old GPU (Radeon HD 7770) and I am able to run CSGO; Wolfenstein etc on high intensity without my PC crashing or this problem occurring, leading me to believe that it must be my GPU.
My r9 280x runs at around 45C when idle, and sometimes that's even when my fans are running at 75-100% speed. Looking online I found that the Average Idle temp should be around 34C; something is wrong here :(
I'm not sure if there are any other measurements you need me to take to make sure that yes 100% it is my GPU. But looking at it how it is, unfortunately it is.
Any more ideas, suggestions would be really helpful thank you!

• 2d Screen Flickering - MSI R9 280X TwinFrozr OC 3GB (R9 280X GAMING 3G)

Hello,
OS: Win 8.1 - 64bit
GFX: MSI R9 280X TwinFrozr OC 3GB (R9 280X GAMING 3G)
GPU-Z:
2d flickering, it seems, when it downclocks to 300Mhz, the screen starts flickering, and can't run games in 2d mode without flickering. The GFX is perfectly fine playing games in full screen.
Any ideas, folks?
I'm sure that changing the clock to 450Mhz default would fix this, or perhaps 500Mhz, but I don't know how I should do that, and maybe there is another fix for this.

Any Additional hardware plugged into your system:

From what I gather, the screen flashes whenever the card clocks itself up or down with its automated power saving marketing whatever. (I don't know how it works, I only know it seems to happen when the clock speeds are changing, which is apparently for power saving. Which is nice, but I rather have a working product without issues.)
The problem here is; the screen flashes.
When watching a movie, when browsing, even while you are playing some games, you will have screen flashes. Usually not just once or twice, but many times in a row, as if it doesn't know where to settle. It is overly abundant and safe to say; annoying. Adding to that, in a game like Guild Wars 2, it also seems to actively cause artifacts to appear. Making you either restart the game, or run out and back into a zone to force a reload. Which is just a drag to deal with.
So far my solution to this has been to use the MSI Gaming App which seems to lock it to a speed.
What I do specifically, is to turn it to silent mode (which simply lists 1000 Mhz, but which I take it uses clocked down settings across the board) and I activate the freeze button (which turns on the fan every once in a while to keep it all nice and cool).
However, every so often, which could be after three hours, just as easily as after 5 minutes, something kicks in which turns on the default settings again. Returning your screenflashes, and needing a restart of the Gaming App to force its settings down the system's throat again.
This solution, though effective, doesn't seem ideal for a bunch of reasons. if anything it only seems to be temporary, but most of all, all of this just doesn't make it feel like I've not gotten the product I thought I had bought.
And it worries me that having the fan run at full speed every so often will drastically wear it down over time and as such is just not an ideal long term solution.
However, turning on the freeze option does seem to be necessary to prevent artifacts from appearing after about 30 minutes of gametime otherwise.
Meanwhile, I've of course tried various ways of solving this. Among the drivers that AMD offers on its website, I don't think there is one left that I haven't tried at this point. I've tried every, single, driver, since the R9 series came into existence. And all of which will give me screen flashes.
As such I am now left with two questions;
1. Should I try a different BIOS version for this card? This idea hadn't popped up in me until just now when I had to look up my system specs and came across the BIOS upload option from GPU-Z (which told me there's a duplicate), and where on the website, it seems there's a BIOS version from roughly a day later. Somehow that seems like it's worth a shot. Unless of course someone here tells me that that is just really not a smart idea.
2. Am I just really unlucky in receiving a card that has something wrong with it and should I try return it or try get a replacement?

May I ask how do you know your vBIOS version?
And where did you find the newer vBIOS?
Flash vBIOS have some risk, if the VGA card is still in warranty,
I think it is better RMA it...

>>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
A.) Download the attached archive (E7888IMS_150.rar) and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the Forum flash tool.
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure that all win 8 options are disabled. (Fast Boot etc) Also make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
F.) Boot to the USB from working bios.
G.) Once it booted successfully switch to the bad bios without powering down or rebooting
H.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash the bad bios with 1.5
I.) After flashing reinstall ME drivers in Windows: http://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/intel_me10_mb.zip
Read few times if not understood
Ignore name of files mentioned in instructions, but use those from below.

• MSI R9 280X voltage locked!!!

Hi, I have crossfire MSI R9 280X's which I received recently. I am very disappointed that they are voltage locked, I am using the latest MSI Afterburner 3.0 beta 18. The slider for voltage is locked even though I have ticked "Unlock Voltage Control" and restarted my PC. I even tried "Force Constant Voltage" to no avail. This is very disappointing since I am using a high-end MSI card and it is voltage locked yet my old XFX HD 7850 had voltage control in MSI Afterburner......
Thank you for reading and I hope there is a solution.

I have made ticket to MSI support (shortly : no voltage change supported, but iam running -84mV )

I also ran a Hardware Test and all the hardware seems ok.
I've taken the battery out of the PMU and it doesn't seem to have any issues starting without that battery in place.
I'm really confused. Why all of a sudden would my computer hate me like this?

Hi, Daniel!
You can use this Apple Document to test your QS power supply with a voltmeter, without having to remove it from the Mac. It references a different model, but the only difference is that the voltage at pin 22 is 25 volts on a QuickSilver PSU rather than the 28 volts shown for the Gigabit Ethernet Mac. The procedural steps are the same...
Does the Mac restart properly with the battery removed from the logic board? Does the battery test out okay, or can you swap it with another one?
Gary

• Mid 2010 Macbook Pro Keeps Restarting due to Kernel Panic. Ideas for how to fix?

So my Mid 2010 Macbook Pro keeps randomly restarting, and giving me a screen that says something like "your computer restarted due to a problem."
Looks like it as a kernel panic, but I have no idea what this is. Seems to be no pattern for when it crashes. Used to do it maybe once a month and now this is the 5th time in two days.
Any idea what might be going on? Looked at past threads but nothing seemed to apply.

Here's the issue report:

• My MacBook was acting weird so I restarted it and when I login a white screen flashes and goes back to the login page. Help?

My MacBook was acting weird like sometimes I would log on and I wouldn't be able to type my password for a couple seconds, but it usually logged in after that. Then I left my computer open after installing the recent update after that all my applications were not responding. So I shut it down, when I turned it back on about an hour later it went to this loading screen and then to the login like usual. After I tried logging in a white screen flashed and it went back to the login/ password screen like nothing happened. Any ideas on what happened and what I can do to fix it?

Reinstall OS X;
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
