R9 280x voltage locked

Ok so my first card I was able to get the core voltage past 1.2, now I had to RMA my first card since a fan blade broke  . So with the new card I received I cant get past 1.2 volts for core voltage. I am using msi afterburner beta17 to OC/volt tweak. My current bios version is 015.040.000.000.003435. With my old card I was able to hit 1180/1800 with voltage tweak now I cant even get 1160/1700 stable. ASIC is 71.8% if it matters. I'm really tempted to just say F*** it and switch over to a nvidia.

Its not voltage locked. I just think it's an issue with afterburner. Force constant voltage, it will work. Or use TrixX, if you dont want to force constant 3D volts.
OK so I spent a few hours trying to get this to work. I DL'd trixxx and modded trixx. These were able to tweak my voltage to my desire but I hate using them. Good news tho, my card voltage isn't locked =). So I tried the constant voltage on AB, which for whatever reason worked. I don't know about you guys but I really dislike having that constant voltage checked. So I uninstalled everything GPU related and reinstalled AB17 and amd drivers. After all that i'm finally able to change the volts in AB!! I had a really early version of AB17 i'm thinking that was the cause of it.?

    No that doesn't help. We only need the S/N without the last four digits. Only those are individual. The rest just stands for the model, the batch and the date of manufacturing.
    Hi my card voltage locked too serial without last 4 digits is 602-V277-28SB131107 card is r9-280x gaming bf4 edition and i uploded bios here http://turbobit.net/zkiohc83yw8v.html

    There is no overclocking app more recent than Afterburner. What doesn't work with Afterburner most likely doesn't with any other tool. Either new batches of the R9 280X are not supported yet or these are locked and can't be overvolted at all. As nothing helps to unlock the card and MSI says it is not supported there is possibly no way. Simply tell MSi that you are not satisfied with the answer and that you want to know if support will be added later on or if there is a technical limitation.
    Thanks for all informations i asked their answer ''Hi, the new R9 280X,the afterburner does not support the voltage. I had been reflect to our company, please patience to wait for  a future version of Afterburner.Thanks! ''
    The only thing to do is waiting after this answer.I hope they will do it soon.

  • MSI R9 280X voltage locked!!!

    Hi, I have crossfire MSI R9 280X's which I received recently. I am very disappointed that they are voltage locked, I am using the latest MSI Afterburner 3.0 beta 18. The slider for voltage is locked even though I have ticked "Unlock Voltage Control" and restarted my PC. I even tried "Force Constant Voltage" to no avail. This is very disappointing since I am using a high-end MSI card and it is voltage locked yet my old XFX HD 7850 had voltage control in MSI Afterburner......
    Thank you for reading and I hope there is a solution.

    I have made ticket to MSI support (shortly : no voltage change supported, but iam running -84mV )

  • MSI 280X Voltage Locked - Help Please

    hi guys
    I purchased an MSI 280X Gaming OC GFX and would like to undervolt it
    I read on forums to try this bios: techpowerup.com/vgabios/146769/msi-r9280x-3072-131009.html
    which i did with ATIflash in DOS, i switched to position 2 on the small switch (switch left direction to back of case), it flashed and said successful but when i boot its just a black screen and no output
    when i put the switch back to position 1 (switch right direction to front of case) it works fine with the original bios (015.042.000.003.000000 )
    any ideas why i cant boot from switch position 2 with an older bios? is my card faulty?
    my card s/n is: 602-v277-44sb13121xxxx
    my aim is to flash an older bios so i can get voltage control in After Burner
    many thanks!

    Don't know. Ask MSI: >>How to contact MSI.<<
    There is nother vbios supporting more features than current vbios TV277MH.380 you provided. To have backup simply flash it on the bricked one. If you can boot your system with onboard/integrated gpu or you have an old spare vga for display boot with the R9 280x switched to the bricked vbios and flash the vbios with your saved one.
    That's great. Do you a link to this other vbios please?

  • MSI R7950 voltage locked?

    Hello everyone, I recently added a R7950 Boost Edition, one with a 6+8 pin board to my system for crossfire.
    I was able to set core to 1000mhz and mem to 1575 at default voltage which is 949mv for my card. However, I was trying for 1100mhz core to match my other 7950.
    Using Afterburner, it allows me to change the voltage to 1100mv, but what I'm seeing is a bit weird.
    In the GPU voltage graph, I'll see spikes that go up to 1100mv when I sit there and watch it while in Windows.  When I test using Heaven or playing games, the voltage only goes up to 1.088 throughout the whole Heaven session even though I set the voltage to 1100mv.
    Even when I leave the voltage at default 949mv, Heaven and games go up to 1.088.
    I can't get the core past 1000mhz because the voltage never goes above 1.088 no matter what I set it at during games or Heaven and causes the apps to crash.  However like I said above, if I set my voltage to lets say 1200mv, I'll see single spikes in Afterburner go up to 1200mv.  During load, it never goes above 1.088mv.
    I've tried all this in Crossfire and by using the MSI card alone, the voltage just wont budge :/
    Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

  • MSI R9 280X voltage fluctuations

    I am setting my cards to -50mv to save power but they automatically keep jumping up to -37mv, is there any way to keep them at the set voltage? I don't want to force constant voltage because when my desktop is idle I want it to downclock and not guzzle up electricity.

    Quote
    Also I noticed something strange, both card's have voltages set to -50mv but card 1 is reporting a voltage of 0.99v while card 2 is reporting a voltage of 1.050v. What is going on here?

    Modern gpus will determine required voltage dynamically.
    Both gpus will determine the voltage individually also. The result is therefor never excatly identical.

    No, there isn't as it seems to be an Afterburner issue.
    On another topic someone suggested a workaround:
    Quote from: reidy- on 14-January-14, 01:42:43
    to help anyone out who is also struggling, you can enable -94mV of undervolting in afterburnerby adding the following statement to the AB profile config file that starts with VEN_1002xxxxxxxxxx.cfg
    [Settings]
    VDDC_IR3567B_Detection    = 32h
    VDDC_IR3567B_Output    = 0
    MVDDC_IR3567B_Detection    = 32h
    MVDDC_IR3567B_Output    = 1
    This will not display properly by GPU-z however if you watch your temps its is clear the voltage change has occured -94 is better than nothing but I would still like to be down to 1v like the 28SB card

    I just reinstalled msi 2.2.3. I can change the voltage if I unlock in options. However I would like to know if this even works or was the voltage locked.
    While aux and mem can be adjusted vgpu will not exceed over 1.175v which is the limit dictated by Nvidia and vbios is locked therefor.
    It would require an unlocked mod bios. There is a thread on overclock.net about unlocked GTX6xx vbios versions. There you could get an unlocked bios for GTX670 PE: http://www.overclock.net/t/1289489/gtx-680-670-unlocked-voltage-bios/510#post_17888629
    So far nobody in the forum has tested that and using would be at your own risk (as always when using mod bios). If it works 1.2125 should be available.
    However due to technical restrictions the GTX670 PE unfortunately does not offer the possibility to readout voltage of the gpu with Afterburner so you can't monitor.
    Without unlocking setting anything for vgpu in Afterburner will have no effect (so is not dangerous). The voltage to be applied with Afterburner with AUX is a safe setting. Memory voltage should only be increased if really needed and as much as needed. Memory dies quickly with too high voltages.
    None the less all overvolting is at your own risk.

  • BIOS Request for 2 R9 280X, One PCB V1.0, another PCB V1.2 (BF4 edition)

    Hi there, I have flashed both my cards to the 015.040.000.000.003435 (113-3865000-X77) BIOS that is found on tomshardware.
    However, whilst my original card came with an older BIOS than this, my new card came with a newer version. (These will be shown below)
    Whilst my cards have both been working fine, I have noticed that my PCB V1.2 card has a strange "voltage lock". Every piece of monitoring software I have tried to use says the voltage is always 1.2, or 0.950 based on load levels. These are the values that are inside the X77 BIOS when inspected with VBE. However, in MSI afterburner, the voltage is displayed as a different value. After having checked allow voltage control and monitoring in MSI AB. My voltage is not shown as a number, but rather a + and - modifier, much like PowerTune is. This modifier does work, after having played around, I have figured out that each integer in this modifier is in fact a single mV (or around that). MSI AB then displays my new card's voltage as a varying number, whereas my old card is shown as a flat line. As shown here
    I have no idea where MSI AB is getting this "pseudo-voltage" value from, since both HWiNFO and GPU-Z both report that it is always 1.2v when under any load. However, it worth noting that this value, whilst I do not believe it is the typical VDDC value, does in fact have some impact on the card's voltage, as I have tried running benchmarks with this card, and with a lower voltage according to MSI AB the card does indeed run cooler.
    I have also noted that HWiNFO does in fact, show that the new card is missing a whole load of sensors, labelled as "ChiL/IR PMBus" as seen here. I can only assume that this particular sensor module was removed from later PCB's, or that this card is faulty?
    Please note. I have only experienced unlocked voltage control on both my old and new card whilst using the X77 BIOS.
    If I use the BIOS that comes with the card, which for my old one is:
    And for my new one is this:
    Then I am unable to modify either the "pseudo-voltage" found on card 1, or the voltage found on card 2, regardless of MSI AB options.
    The reason I am still running the X77 BIOS is that I want the ability to modify voltage, as it very important to me.
    My S/N's are
    PCB V1.0 card: 602-V277-19SB1309097475
    PCB V1.2 (BF4) card: 602-V277-28SB1311072756
    The PCB revision numbers (1.0 and 1.2) I have gotten from the bottom of the PCB, right next to the PCI Express connector. However I have not inspected the PCB to actually confirm they are different, and this maybe just be an identifier.

    Hey there, the 330 BIOS is the exact same as the one my second card came with when I purchased it (same MD5 hash), I have flashed the 302 BIOS to my old card and switched my BIOS on the second card back to stock and now I cannot change voltages in afterburner. Are these cards by any chance voltage locked by design and the X77 BIOS enables voltage changes?
    Since I need the ability to change my cards voltage I have since switched back to the X77 BIOS until I can resolve this issue. Thank you.
