R9 290X gaming 8G - standard resolution on HDMI output

Hi,
Could anyone help me with the problem - I just installed new card 8G 290X and from hdmi output I'm getting standard resolution signal. In the standard controlling program it says its 32 bit true color 1080p signal, on -for example - youtube in settings is 1080p as well but its not - the videos and even desktop picture is of way poorer quality. Before, I had radeon 5870 and it was fine till last minute, so its not tv or cable or videos that Im checking ( ). It says the driver is updated. What else can it be? Codecs?

Does this happen when from DVI or DP? Any picture? Or driver settings?

When i came home with my card i removed my old 7970 and replaced it with my new card.
Put some programs up like gpu-z cpu-z realtemp ext.
Then run Unigine-valley Benchmark with OC tool MSI at 1040 option.
    My cpu at 4.2ghz OC
    Score Unigine valley v1.0: 61.1 fps-score2558-min fps 30.3/max fps 112.8
Custom settings at 1920-1080 and ultra 8x aa windowed.
    Seems ok result.
    Now to problem i have.
So next i did (dumb me hehe) i try OC my CPU with All-suit II from ASUS to OC cpu extreme mode which stress test untill stable clock is found.
Got a crash bluescreen and then after few attemps stable 4.3.
Then did new benchmark and my score was alot lower and nomatter what i try my 290x did not pass 60fps any more and score dropped to 2100?
3dmark firestrike gave first time score of 9655 and after my disaster with cpu failed attemp 9200.
My card is stuck at 60fps max it won't get any higher?
    The GPU-Z also show PCI-E 3.0 X16@ X1 1.1and when i activate render i see it only change to x16 1.1 i never see gen 3.0.
CPU-Z info motherboard also only pci-express link with x1 and x16
My questions is how can o solve this problem it seems my motherbaord don't reconize my videocard anymore?
Also posible that something with the OC attemp CPU broke something?
I also try change from AUTO to GEN3 in bios but then i get a blackscreen when i boot up it stays backscreen, have to change it switch videocards so i can see my boot again and go into BIOS.
Im at a lost here, hope one of you know a solution or whats my problem?
Hope ive supply enough info im bit of a newbie at this sorry for that.
    Thanks in advance.

    >>Clear CMOS<< of your board and retry.

  • Satellite P200D: How to get higher resolution with HDMI on external monitor

    Hi,
i have problem with my notebook P200D. I want to use my book with extern LCD in resolution 1680x1050.
In analog connection i have reached this resolution, but the quality of the output is bad.
I see some waves on the screen of LCD. And colors are little bit different.
Notebook has hdmi output too, so I have bought hdmi/dvi cabel, which is working, but i have reached only the resolution of 1200x1020.
Cabel is signgle link, it exists dual link cabel, but i am not sure if this sloves my problem. I have read that the hdmi output in the Toshiba notebooks is only single link.
So i cant reached higher resolution than 1200x1020... Is it true?

Vlada I do not know what you mean with bad picture but if you can use the right resolution the picture must be simply brilliant. I am afraid you can not set the right resolution (1680 x 1050) and because of that you are not happy with analog connection.
About HDMI usage I can just say that I have tried to connect Qosmio G30 to my HD Ready LCD TV. I have just switched to the TV using FN+F5 key combination, checked graphic card settings and set it to the center. The picture was perfect and I didnt change resolution.
It is very interesting theme and I hope someone else will post own experiences.
    Bye and good luck!

  • Msi 290X Gaming Bios question?

I just got a used 290X Gaming for $350 off Amazon. Do the 290X boards usually already come with a UEFI bios or will I have to request it?
    Thanks....

The 4G Gamings Bios switch is at the top of the card near the external connectors, the uefi mode bios is the "2" position on the switch, which is toward the rear/power connectors position. Its a pretty tiny switch so make sure your careful and have a good light.

  • 290x Gaming 4G - NO FAN CONTROL AFTERBURNER

I am not the only person, why on earth does MSI PAY for Afterburner and not have proper control of their cards through it?
The stock fan control profiles SUCK and I'd be happy to have just plain ole, SIMPLE fan control. Afterburner doesnt work, MSI Gaming APP doesnt do  (horrible program BTW devs) and CCC doesnt work either... YAY!
Someone tell me I am moron for not finding some hidden checkbox, otherwise I am pretty disappointed with my two new 290x Gaming 4G's.

    Use the attached for both.
Create a bootable usb stick (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165175.0).
Then unpack the previously provided archive (TV308MH_161.rar) and put the included file (TV308MH.161) on that stick.
Rename TV308MH.161 to 161.rom. Put the atiflash.exe also included in the archive on the USB stick too. Now boot from the stick.
Type atiflash -p -f -noaper 0 161.rom [ENTER] and let it flash the vbios if flashing both cards one after another with one card removed. If you want to flash both in one system the syntax listed before will just flash one card. You'd need to type then atiflash -p -f -noaper 0 161.rom [ENTER] and atiflash -p -f -noaper 1 161.rom [ENTER].

  • R9 290X Gaming VBIOS Request

I just bought a brand new MSI 290X Gaming 4G and I have no control over fans, the msi GamingApp seems to have no control either.
    SN:602-V308-06SB1403000948

    Hi,
Is anyone able to clarify some or all of the BIOS issues/info?
My 290X Gaming is exhibiting some stuttering issues.  I have read through several forums over the last week and determined that a BIOS update has resolved this issue with brands.  So, after more reading, I've ended up here.  This is certainly disconcerting.  When one spends over $600 on a video card for the 'Best' you'd hope it's not a 1/2 functional kludge.
I tried the 160 BIOS and lost fan control with the card set to Legacy Mode Switch Position #1.  GPU-Z showed a different version than with the card set to UEFI Mode Switch Position #2.  Position #2 shows the old BIOS version and the in this mode the fans are controllable.  As well, in position 1 which seemed to be the new BIOS with the loss of fan control, the whole computer seemed funky and ultimately the screen would go black and I'd have to shutdown and reboot.
So are there typically 2 separate flashes?  One legacy and one UEFI?  Does one have to flash the card in both switch positions?  I was of the understanding that position 2 is locked and position 1 is for flashing.
Would someone kindly elaborate on all this?  I couldn't seem to find the info here.
    Also, there seem to be 4 BIOS here;
    http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/index.php?manufacturer=MSI&model=R9+290X
    Obviously 2 are 1030MHz and 2 are 1040Mhz.
For each speed, it shows versions
    VER015.042.000.003.000000 f1040.h02
    VER015.042.000.003.000000 u1040.h02
So, what is the difference?  Is one supposed to be Legacy and one UEFI?
Again, some insight would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

  • [REQUEST] Latest VBIOS R9 290X GAMING 8G

    Hey there...
just want to know if I'm using the lastest VBIOS for my R9 290X GAMING 8G Card, cause since latest LiveUpdate - Update it tells me my Card isn't supported.
    S/N: 602 - V308 - 24SB1412086611.
    My VBIOS is attached.
    Thanks in advance.

My system isn't a typical Gaming PC, its a Dell Precision T7810 high performance workstation. (I use a second card (AMD FirePro W7100) for professional use and the R9 290X for gaming purposes)
So it's also a Dell Mainboard (there is no real model-no. for it)
Nevertheless see this link for more information about the mainboard:

  • R9 290X GAMING 4G - high temperatures?

    Hi!
On IDLE its about 38*C (100.4*F) to 42*C (107.6*F), but while gaming it raises from about 86*C to 90*C (186.8 to 194 *F). My PC is very well vented using 8 fans (7x120mm and 1x140mm except CPU) temp. in room is about 28*C (82*F).
Those temperatures are normal for R9 290X GAMING 4G with Twin Frozr?

Yesterday, I decided take to pieces heat sink and first what I saw that backplate was not tighten (!). In result thermopads on power section had dust on it (so in my opinion they had no cooling). Now GPU core, where I was shocked too. Cooling paste was everywhere, not only on GPU core, also on resistors that surrounding GPU core, also there was a little stripe on black plate that surrounds GPU. Cooling paste was not properly applied!
I should get extended warranty because of that not-cooled power section and Chinese worker who assembled my GPU should be fired!
After tightening screws on backplate and heatsink, and replaced cooling paste temperatures are normal now (about 86*C), not 91*C.
I was very disapointed, adding that this is the first product from MSI.

If you are looking for a UEFI / GOP Vbios for your video card here are a few things we need and there are a few things you need to know.
1.) Vbios versions vary with-in models. This is due to different variations and improvements made in time. In order for us to be able to get you the right VBIOS. We need your serial number. The serial number can be found on a sticker on the bottom of your card or on the box in which it came.
2.) Don't use a vbios provided to another users. Just because you have the same model, doesn't mean you need the same vbios. While flashing the wrong vbios is recoverable, it is still more work. It is fine to post in that thread with your serial number asking if you can use that VBIOS.
3.) If we need to check if thier is a more recent version. We can check your Vbios in one of two ways.
A.) Upload a copy of your current vbios somewhere and give us a link. You can save a copy of your vbios using >>GPU-Z<<.
B.) You can also just use NVFLASH >>Download NVFLASH for windows<<
    Syntax:
    nvflash /v >rep.txt [ENTER]
This will copy all of the information we need into a txt file you will fine in the folder in which you placed nvflash.
4.) Be aware that gpu-z screenshots or what gpu-z reads out as bios version are NOT of any use for identifying the required vbios version. While it doesn't hurt to add those when S/N and an actual copy of the vbios are also supplied simply just adding screenshots or version readouts will not get you any further and us having to ask for the required informations.
