R9 290X Gaming App overclock seeing CPU not GPU

Hi all,
Yesterday I picked up an R9 290x 4gb.  The card is working great, and is recongnized and used during benchmarks.  I wanted to get a baseline prior to OC.  I was then going to start with the numbers I get on the gaming app before jumping into afterburner.  Problem is, the Gaming App is displaying my CUP speed and isn't seeing the GPU.  So the OC button is 4400 which is what OC genie has my CPU at but it doesn't show my GPU speed.  I then tried loading afterburner and afterburner isn't seeing it either.
This was a clean install of windows 8.1, I ran all updated through live update and windows.
Any ideas?

No go, still not seeing it correctly. Details below.  Also got a warning after completion also, below.

  • MSI Gaming APP overclock

I have two cards crossfired so will this app tell both to overclock or run in quiet mode? Also is this setting lost after reboot since the app does not run on startup? Next since this is my first MSI video card do they do bios upgrades on their site or do you have to email them?
MSI AMD R9 290 Gaming Edition

Welp turns out it was leftover driver bits from back when I first built the system and used the intel integrated just to see how it worked.(which btw is actually quite well as long as you are not into serious gaming)
Was pulling my hair out in frustration as I had plenty of power after adding up all the wattages figures for my devices and the fact as long as I underclocked the card it ran without issues.
Then I decided to try a complete driver wipe and googled up ddu and ran it and noticed the intel driver still loaded up somehow so deleted them along with everything else and ran a fresh install of the latest nvidia drivers and now all is well.
So if any of you users are having odd problems you don't think you should be having keep at it till you figure it out.

  • Flash Player 11 3D always rendered using CPU not GPU on MAC OS

    Hello,
I have Flash Player 11.0.1.152 installed on
System - iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06 GHz and Memory 4 GB
    OS - Lion 10.7.2
Graphics - NVIDIA GeForce 9400 vRAM total 256MB
Browsers - Current versions of Safari, Firefox & Chrome
These are the demos I have been trying to view -
    http://www.nissan-stagejuk3d.com
    http://alternativaplatform.com/en/demos/maxracer/
Hardware acceleration is enabled however Stage3D is very jerky and not at all responsive as seen in the demo videos which makes me feel that the software renderer is in action. Also CPU usage goes beyond 100% very quickly.
Note: Before this, I have installed a incubator build and was able to run some of the demos without any trouble which means that my system is compatible (Please correct me if I am wrong about this assumption.) however now they don't work and sometimes my browser crashes too.
I have already tried uninstall and install to no avail.
    Please help to resolve asap.
    Thanks!

The performance seems directly proportional to the size of the stage area.
With the 21.5 inch iMAC, by default I am on the resolution 1920x1080.
The http://www.nissan-stagejuk3d.com/ site has a liquid layout and perhaps this makes it difficult for even the gpu to render with my configuration.
If I resize my browser window to the resolution of 1024x768, the performance is fantastic.
    Suggestions are welcome

  • MSI Gaming App Not Working - Fails to open after install - Want to use OC mode

Hi, well today I just recovered my GPU from a near fry using MSI Afterburner. Luckily, with help from a moderator on this site, I was able to get it working again. I thought I fried it trying to OC it. I simply want to be able to switch between the modes it is supposed to come with. I have a MSI R9 290, and it is supposed to be equiped with 3 easy "one click" toggling between OC modes, 1007MHz, Gaming mode, 974MHz, and Silent Mode, 947MHz.
I cannot figure out how to switch between these modes. I used Afterburner and nearly fried my card. I was told not to use that, that is for advanced users, to use instead the (supposed to be bundled, but was not included in my install) MSI Gaming App, to easily switch between the 3 different modes. I downloaded the MSI Gaming App (http://download.msi.com/uti_exe/gamingApp.zip) and installed it. When I tried to run it I get this error:
    ======
    [MSI Gaming App]
The platform does not support this application
    (OK)
    ======
So what does this mean, that the Gaming App is not supported by Windows 7 64Bit Professional (which is what I have)?
Am I doing something wrong, did I install the wrong application. I could not find any others however.
So I damn near fried my GPU trying to use Afterburner to OC my GPU, and I am very hesitant to try using it again. At this point, I have not even reinstalled Afterburner as I fear it might, just by installing, screw me up again.
What should I do, is there anything I CAN do?
Please help this noob- Thanks for your help!
    -Kris

based on S/N the card is generic, AMD reference one
those cards don't have factory OC:

  • MSI Gaming app will not start up or run

I just installed a new MSI GTX 960 Gaming 4G and also installed the MSI gaming app. When I click on the app to open it appears in my notification window, but as soon as I mouse over the icon it disappears. The app stops running. I have uninstalled and re-installed like 12 times and restarted the computer 15 times. I'm kind of a noob when it comes to using new stuff so any help would be nice. Thanks

It's an issue with Gaming APP that is currently not fixed. Open a ticket with MSI support to add more cases for MSI to check and find the problem: >>How to contact MSI.<<

  • Can I use the MSI Gaming App OC settings in Afterburner then uninstall Gaming Ap

    Hello all,
I finally bought an MSI GTX 760 TF OC Gaming Edition GPU last week. Unfortunately the OC isn't programmed into the BIOS and to get the highest Factory OC I need to use the MSI Gaming App. The problem is it does not start with Windows or remember your last Clock Selection.
I know Afterburner can start with Windows and apply your last selected profile.
    So can I......
    1. Open Gaming App and select OC.
Open GPU-Z and see how much the Clock Speed has increased.
     Restore the default Clock (Gaming).
Open Afterburner and apply the same increase to the clock value as the Gaming App gave me.
    Save the profile.
Tick the 'Start with Windows' box.
     Uninstall the Gaming App.
    2. Will the above effectively apply the same OC as the gaming App and therfore make the Gaming App obsolete?
    3. Also I've read on some forums that Afterburner will only OC the MSI card if the gaming App is installed. I'm away from home so cannot test any of this. Maybe this was the case with the original version of the gaming app. can anyone confirm?
    4. Also I've read people reporting that once the OC has been applied it is locked at this high clock and doesn't downclock when idle. From what I've seen the Gaming App does downclock depending on GPU demand. As does Afterburner. Can anyone confirm?
I don't know why MSI did things this way. It's a Gaming Edition card so there should be a way of applying the factory OC and leaving it set that way. The Gaming App is a nice simple little tool but as a bare minimum they should let us start it with Windows and automatically apply the last selected Clock profile.
Dragging the shortcut into the start-up folder doesn't work for me. And even if it did, the last profile selection is not remembered.
To be honest, the Gaming App is ideal for me but only if I can set it and forget it. There should be a box (like there is in Afterburner) that starts the Gaming App when Windows starts and applies the last Clock profile selected.
Now that would be simple. Afterburner is great and gives you lots of control. But I just want the OC that MSI have created. It should be set at BIOS level for a so-called OC Gaming Edition card.
From the official Afterburner Guide on this forum....
"Another thing which needs to be kept in mind is that maximum clockrates for the latest GeForce GTX7xx Gaming requires running >>Gaming APP<<. Switch to Gaming Mode (N770 TF 2GD5/OC (GeForce GTX 770 GAMING)) or OC Mode (N780 TF 3GD5/OC (GeForce GTX 780 GAMING)) to allow maximum boost clockrates."
    Many thanks in advance,

Sure you can set these settings (clock rate etc) in afterburner and you should be good to go. Just for stability, run a benchmark. It should be same OC as Gaming App applies, but GApp might change voltages (never used it so not sure).
Afterburner works with ANY brand's card. However MSI Gaming App not.
However if you change settings in Nvidia control panel in : 3D settings -> Global Settings -> Power management mode -> change from Adaptive to Prefer max performance. After this card will neved downclock even at idle.

  • MSI gaming APP

I have fitted a MSI GTX960 Gaming 4GB in my Dell XPS8700, it is a great upgrade from gtx745 !
At the moment, referring to reviews/benchmarks the extra 2GB really doesn't make a huge difference...only betting on longer run, games will want more memory so went for 4GB instead...
The only "issue" is with the MSI software. GPU comes with 3 msi software: 3D photo viewer/ msi afterburner and msi gaming app.
XPS8700 will not start "MSI gaming APP", which allow you to choose between:  OC mode/ Gaming mode/ Silent mode. Any idea why my dell cannot open this? (I have also tried the latest software from MSI)
The MSI afterburner software is quite too difficult to use for overclocking the GPU; I tried some setup, only to find black screens and crashes when playing games...It is fine when I reset it to "factory" setting.
    Cheers

Hi, thanks for trying to help...
I will try to answer to the best of my knowledge :
     http://eu.msi.com/product/vga/GTX-960-GAMING-4G-LE.html#hero-overview
I first installed the software which came with the card: didn't work
Then installed MSI Gaming APP from here (it says 06/02/15) 4.0.0.2:
    https://gaming.msi.com/article/msi-gaming-app-article
Uninstalled/deleted folder, reinstalled as suggested still didn't work. Even if I right click on icon "run as administrator", I get a pop up window then same again, just nothing after that.
I checked: Microsoft.NET Framework, it is up to date: 4.5.1
    Windows is up to date....
    Many Thanks

  • MSI Gaming App default mode ?

I am running a R9 280x. When I first run MSI Gaming App I see 800Mhz displayed. I assume it's in a mode that can throttle between it's lowest and highest capped clock. Once I select a mode, I only get a choice between 1000mhz, 1020Mhz, and 1050Mhz. I can't select the original mode, or rather none of the three available modes, to have it to back to being able to throttle down all the way to 800Mhz. The info seems to suggest Gaming Mode is the default and original mode, but I don't think that's the case since it stays at 1050Mhz when you select that mode. How can I select no mode, or can you add a true default mode button ?

Nvm as it turns out, the way to set it back to normal auto throttle mode is to just completely shut down the MSI Gaming App. I would suggest being able to click on the same mode again to select no mode which would be more intuitive and get people to use the app more and leave it running instead of having to shut it down completely. As soon as I exit the app it drops back down to 500MHz.

  • [290x] MSI Gaming App error "The platform does not support this application."

Using the latest AMD Omega drivers, I am unable to launch the Gaming App and am presented with this error -  "The platform does not support this application."
I have tried downloading Gaming APP 3.0.0.16.zip from another post on the topic but I am receiving the same error. The only other thing I've seen as a 'solution' is to install the drivers from the MSI support page for my card - however this is version 14.4 and is over 3 months old, I don't really think that's a viable solution.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Is your vga driver 14.12? Any other settings changed?
Do you have any other msi or vga software installed?
Can you do a fresh re-install OS and what's the language of your OS?
Yes, Catalyst Omega. No other software or hardware changes.
Yes MSI Afterburner. Have tried uninstalling and installing gaming app, have also not had it running when trying to launch MSI Gaming app. No joy there.
No I can't, that's not really an option for a piece of software like this which worked before but doesn't since the latest AMD driver updates.

Since your motherboard is not the supported gaming series mobos, there might be something detected wrong with your card. The error message shown if neither motherboard nor vga is supported in Gaming App. I suggest use AMD Catalyst Clean Uninstall Utility to totally uninstall the current driver:
    http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/16748/
and re-install the latest driver 14.12. I have no problem using Gaming App 3.0.0.16 with my R9 290X, hope you too.
I have never seen anything stating that you need a supported gaming series motherboard to use the MSI Gaming App - maybe for other features if it has any, but the gaming app I used when I got my card was a little box with a few options for the GPU on it. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver already unfortunately, using both AMD CCUU and a second attempt with DDU. No change at all, the exact same error message.
But as I've said, the fact that there is more than one person reporting this and older drivers make the gaming app work, it's definitely a software ended problem on certain configurations. I have installed driver 14.4 now and can once again use the gaming app, just as someone with a different card and different motherboard has stated in another thread. xxhttps://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=251885.0xx this solution however is not really acceptable.

    Hi rhaughan,
I see that you have concerns about your operating temperature of your computer while using resource-heavy applications such as gaming applications. I have an article that will address some of the concerns you have mentioned:
Mac notebooks: Operating temperature - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-is/HT201640
While there are third-party utilities that measure the temperature of a notebook computer, it is important to understand that these utilities are not measuring the external case temperature. The actual case temperature is much lower. Never use third-party applications to diagnose possible hardware issues—instead, contact Apple or go to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.
You should also see this article for even further information about your fans:

  • Msi gaming app update almost cooked my cpu

Hello just updated my gaming app through live update to 4.0.0.05 and I have my h100i fans plugged into motherboard. I have set my own fan curve up in bios.but after I updated gaming app started to play some gta v and looked over to my tower and the temps for cpu were a lot higher than normal. So I had a feel or the rad was very hot looked at the fans completely stopped. So opened control center to see and try and set fans up. Set them up using fan tune. Got fans back going then went in to bios to check my fan setting there all at the original setting I had put in. So thought I would just warn others I case it happens to them

  • MSI Gaming APP for X99 Gaming 7 Not displaying properly

I have installed and removed and installed again the MSI Gaming App.  But when I run it each time, I keep getting the same issue.  When I launch the MSI Gaming App, a white box appears in the middle of the screen with a single word "Canvas" written on it.  The only thing you can do with this is close it by pressing OK.  The program itself opens in the bottom right corner of the screen and the box is only partially displayed.  It is like half the app has been cut off.  The only button accessible in the top right is the info button, while the other two next to it have been cur off.  Similarly, the only boxes showing are the top part of OC, Gaming, and the left half of Silent.
Please advise if this is a known issue or if there is a fix.  Yes, I am using the latest version of the APP - 2.0.0.21 that i downloaded using Live Update 6.  I am running Win 7 Home Premium 64bit with all the latest updates and a 5930K with Twin GTX Titan Blacks with 16gig of ram and the latest nVidia Driver 347.09

Thanks!!  I downloaded the latest version of the gaming App and it works great.  The problem I am having now is that MSI Live Update appears not to be seeing the latest versions of many apps, utilities and drivers.  I have the latest version of live update installed.  6.0.012
For example, I have Killer Network Drivers 1.1.42 1045 installed and Live Update says this is the latest version.  But on the web site, it says 1.1.49 1068 is the latest version.
Any Ideas why Live Update is not finding the latest info for my drivers etc... ??

The file to download the app for Android is not working from my phone--it says that the file isn't there. However it does see the one for the Iphone (even though it can't use it). I've tried it multiple times and continue to get the same message: "NOT FOUND The requested item could not be found". I also tried through the Market application on the phone but ended-up with the same result.
I'm very computer literate and am pretty sure the problem is on your end. If this is the case then no one can download the app. I considered that perhaps because it's still in Beta that it was removed due to some other type of software issue. I would really like to use Firefox on my new Droid (2.0); when with this be available?

Firefox will not appear in the Market for most phones with incompatible hardware. You can check if your phone is supported here:
    https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Platforms/Android
Even on some supported devices, a bug in the Market software prevents Firefox from showing up. This may be related to the fairly recent Android Market app update. If you go to Settings/Applications/Market and choose "Uninstall" you can uninstall the update, and then search for and install Firefox from the marketplace.
Or, if you have a supported phone, you can download the app directly by typing this address into your phone's browser: http://bit.ly/fxbeta3
(Note: To download the app directly for an AT&T phone, you will have to search for instructions on "sideloading" the APK file, since AT&T disables the option to install from non-Market sources.)

  • MSI Gaming App Will NOT Start

If this is the wrong forum I apologize, I didn't see any other place for topics about MSI software.
When my PC starts, the MSI Gaming App doesn't start automatically, I have to manually start it by double-clicking the icon on the desktop. However, it is a crap shoot if the program will even run; usually it doesn't and I have to completely restart my computer and cross my fingers. I've re-installed, updated, etc., but it keeps doing this. Any help would be fantastic.

    Are you mixing RAM?
Did the software ever worked before? Try to uninstall it (Programs&Features), remove any folders and registry files that Gaming App have made (you can also use CCleaner to clear registry errors). Then reboot and try to install+run Gaming App again. What was the version you have tried? From the CD included with the card or from MSI website? If possible, tell exact version.
