RAC and AIX and NetApp

Hi everybody,
I can find numerous certification statements confirming RAC 9iR2 runs on AIX.
I can also find certifications that NetApp will support 9iR2 RAC.
I haven't yet found a certifiaction statement covering all three.
Has anybody out there implemented 9iR2 RAC on AIX on a NetApp device?
Adrian

  • Question about RAC 10g on server running AIX and domain name changes

We have several 10g clusters running on IBM p-Series AIX servers, and our company is changing the domain name for our network. I am concerned that if we do not change the domain names in the TNSNAMES.ora file and also the /etc/hosts file on each server, the cluster will no longer function. We are using CRS (version 10.2.0.3) and ASM within each cluster.
Does anyone know where I can find information about changing the domain name that was set up as part of the CRS and database installs for RAC? Does anyone have experience doing this, and would be willing to share a few insights? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give!

You may be able to use the VIPCA utility for RAC to change or modify the public and private settings for your domain names on AIX. Also, the Oracle 10g DBCA "Database Configuration Assistant" should be of use to change your settings for your RAC environment.
Also, see here for a good IBM Redbook that covers Oracle 10g RAC on AIX platforms:

  • SAP SRM Prod with Oracle DB and AIX 5.3 Performance Issue.

    Hi Basis Gurus,
Today my SAP PRD system all of a sudden was running slow and users had difficulties executing TCodes as it took minutes before the screen appeared. My system is SAP SRM 4.00, Oracle Release 11.2.0.1.0 and AIX 5.3.
From Basis point of view , we noticed that all the work process were hanged due to RFCs' occupying it.Couldnt investigate further on the system as we needed to restart asap because users needed to log on. A quick check on SICK shows no errors. What we managed to find out is that we needed to check this parameter below and set it accordingly:-
    rdisp/rfc_min_wait_dia_wp:-
    Definition
Number of work processes kept free for other users.
    Use
This parameter is used to reserve a number of dialog work processes for dialog mode. It prevents parallel RFCs from occupying all the processes.
The parameter rdisp/wp_no_dia specifies the absolute number of dialog work processes.
Unit: number of dialog work processes
    Default value: 1
    Example
If 10 dialog work processes are configured for the instance (rdisp/wp_no_dia = 10) and the parameter rdisp/rfc_min_wait_dia_wp  = 3 is set, parallel RFCs can occupy a maximun of 7 dialog work processes. Three dialog work processes always remain free for dialog mode.
There are 20 DIA processes in our system, perhaps reserving a minimum of about 5 work processes for DIA users will be useful via the parameter.
So my first question would be is there any other suggestions besides adjusting the mentioned parameter above in order to ensure that no work processors going into hang state due to RFCs' occupying it as this issue always happens at the end of the month only when there are massive users accessing it.
When we went for a restart of the system we encountered another issue. Steps to the issue are as below:-
    1) Did a proper shutdown of Oracle and SAP.
    2) When we start using startsap script, it doesn't start DB so we started DB manually but listener was having problem
        so we stopped all.
    3) We also did a cleanipc, it too throws below error:-
    sidadm> cleanipc <systemno> remove
exec(): 0509-036 Cannot load program cleanipc because of the following errors:
0509-130 Symbol resolution failed for cleanipc because:
0509-136   Symbol memmove (number 106) is not exported from
                   dependent module /usr/sap/sid/SYS/exe/run/libsapu16.so.
0509-192 Examine .loader section symbols with the
                   'dump -Tv' command.
    4) Also the Listener file has no contents,it's null file.
    5) This is another error :-
exec(): 0509-036 Cannot load program /oracle/sid/112_64/bin/tnslsnr because of the following errors:
0509-150   Dependent module /oracle/sid/112_64/lib/libttsh11.so could not be loaded.
0509-101   The module has too many section headers
        or the file is damaged
The libttsh11.so file was empty dated 25th timestamp as below in PRD:-
    -rw-rr    1 sid   dba               0 Nov 25 07:12 libttsh11.so
Further checking has let me to understand this is an Oracle Bug from this link:-
    http://gavinsoorma.com/2009/12/11-1-0-6-clusterware-upgrade-to-11-1-0-7/
This Oracle bug only happens in an Upgrade time and how could this happen to my Production system during a restart process.
Also this system was restarted during the last weekend's maintainance window and it came up with no issues.
    6) We copied over the libttsh11.so from our QA environment to PRD and did a Startup:-
-rwxr-x---    1 sid   dba        65967496 Nov 25 07:40 libttsh11.so (This is the copied over file from QA)
    7) After Startup everything has been in order till now.
My second question is what went wrong with the libttsh11.so file. How could it be 0 size in PRD when no signs of changes had happen to the PRD system. Is this a proven Oracle Bug or something else since I have never encountered anything like this before. Hope all the Gurus here could shed some light into my 2 questions as I am looking for positive answers.
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    John

    Hi,
Firstly I would suggest you to upgrade your database from Oracle Release 11.2.0.1.0 to Oracle Release 11.2.0.2 . This is the recommended Oracle 11g database version  for SAP solutions. Many of your problem will get resolved with it.
    Question 1:
So my first question would be is there any other suggestions besides adjusting the mentioned parameter above in order to ensure that no work processors going into hang state due to RFCs' occupying it as this issue always happens at the end of the month only when there are massive users accessing it.
For immediate resolution the approach you have followed is correct viz limiting number of dialog processes for RFC. Secondly you need to analyze why RFC processing takes so much time. You need check which programs are getting executed by those RFC.
Generate EarlyWatch report for more detailed view
    Question 2:
My second question is what went wrong with the libttsh11.so file. How could it be 0 size in PRD when no signs of changes had happen to the PRD system. Is this a proven Oracle Bug or something else since I have never encountered anything like this before.
The libttsh11.so library cannot be found in the related directory.
    Cause
The file system is mounted using CIO option, but per Note 257338.1 Direct I/O (DIO) and Concurrent I/O (CIO) on AIX 5L, an ORACLE_HOME on a filesystem mounted with "cio" option is not supported.
Such a configuration will cause, installation, relinking and other unexpected problems.
    Solution
Disable the CIO option on the filesystem.

  • Installation on AIX and Db2 9

    Hi,
I am due to start an upgrade project for 4.7 on AIX and DB2, the originating release of DB2 is 8.2.
But to save myself time I want to use the export of the SAP system to install it on a DB2 version 9 system, using SAPInst.
I know this is a valid operation on a Windows Oracle platform, but was wondering if there any limitations on the DB2 side of things.
    TIA
    Chris

That does not accomplish anything of what I wanted.
To reduce the complexity of the upgrade, I want to use the import process to facilitate a database upgrade.
What you are proposing is a system copy, and means I will have to do a database upgrade later.
If my idea is not workable then fine, I will do it that way but you have not addressed any of the requirements I have stated in my post.
    Thanks

  • HA Installation of ERP EHP4 on AIX and DB2

    Dear All,
I have to do a HA installation of ERP EHP4 system on AIX and DB2. I have followed the standard inst.guide from SAP but I want more information. Can anyone help me in understanding how to go about installing HA in detail. I would be very grateful if anyone can provide me a guide/document of what and how they have done. Can you pls explain me the steps.
    I also have few questions
    1. Shall i do a Central installation or distributed installation ( meaning CI, ASCS and DB in one server failover to other; CI,ASCS on one server and DB running on different server which in case of failure will move to other server)
    2. I know that OS team will do the cluster configuration but is there any other software to be bought for an automatic switchover in case of failures?
    3. Mainly, as a BASIS consultant what is our role in HA configuration?  What file systems should be defined and nfs mounted?
Request you to take time and answer. Thanks in Advance.
Lastly, i hope this is the right forum. If not , please let me know.

    Hi,
    >
    > 1. Shall i do a Central installation or distributed installation ( meaning CI, ASCS and DB in one server failover to other; CI,ASCS on one server and DB running on different server which in case of failure will move to other server)
    >
I think you did not get basic of HA installation. Its neither central nor distributed installation. You need to install CI and Dialog Instance locally on 2 nodes. DB and ASCS instance on the disk that will move across 2 nodes.
    > 2. I know that OS team will do the cluster configuration but is there any other software to be bought for an automatic switchover in case of failures?
    >
OS team will do file system config so that file system having ASCS and DB should move across 2 nodes. And rest of the file system should be local.
After installation making cluster movement automatic both OS and SAP Basis guy have to work together.
    > 3. Mainly, as a BASIS consultant what is our role in HA configuration?  What file systems should be defined and nfs mounted?
    >
I would say primary role in HA installation is of Basis guy. Because he is the person who will decide what approach will you take to install HA either active-active or active-passive. Its you on whom requirement OS guy will work.
    Thanks

  • Differences between AIX and Windows for SAP

    Dear All,
I have a problem regarding SAP Software. We want to change our company software .First we order SAP On Windows with Oracle10g But Now We want SAP on AIX with Oracle10g.
SAP delivered us software on Windows platform.
Please Suggest me for this as what are the differences between the above two platforms and what are the differences between the above 2 platforms.
    Regards,
    Pankaj Kalsayan

    hi Pankaj,
well, this is a very general question. perhaps you could specify a little more.
in general i would see no difference regarding the end user sitting in front of his pc using sapgui.
as far as i know all server side sap software is available for aix and windows (and many more).
for administration on the other hand there is of course lots of difference. AIX is a UNIX operating system running on special hardware with power processors. it offers quit extensive virtualisation abilities using so called LPARs and supports real big number of CPUs and large RAM. Windows is a completly differnet operating system running mostly on x86/amd64 hardware.
therefore you should also consider what know-how is available in your system administration.
not shure if that is partly answering your question ...
btw. if you are going forward with AIX you should perhaps consider switching oracle with db2. so you have a consistent IBM based landscape. also to me, sap and db2 seem to "like" each other more than sap and oracle

    martin

  • Tuning of SGA on Oracle 8.0.5 and AIX 4.3.3

    Hi folks,
I have an AIX box running AIX 4.3.3 and Oracle 8.0.5.2.0. The original SGA settings are as follows:
    shared_pool_size = 150000000
    sort_area_size = 1024876
    db_block_buffer = 126102
    The SGA size then is:
Total System Global Area 1838467232 bytes
    Fixed Size 47264 bytes
    Variable Size 803287040 bytes
    Database Buffers 1033027584 bytes
    Redo Buffers 2105344 bytes
I changed the SGA settings to the following:
    shared_pool_size = 768000000
    sort_area_size = 512000000
    The SGA size is now:
Total System Global Area 2227943584 bytes
    Fixed Size 47264 bytes
    Variable Size 214097920 bytes
    Database Buffers 2013265920 bytes
    Redo Buffers 532480 bytes
After this change was done, the system ran but the users had some problems running reports in JDEOneWorld.
I then downsize the SGA settings and altered the db_block_buffer to improve buffer cache hits with these settings:
    db_block_buffers = 245760
    shared_pool_size = 200000000
    sort_area_size = 1048576
On restarting the database with the new values, I noted that the SGA size remained unchanged as below:
Total System Global Area 2278475936 bytes
    Fixed Size 47264 bytes
    Variable Size 264105984 bytes
    Database Buffers 2013265920 bytes
    Redo Buffers 1056768 bytes
I tried to increase the size of db_block_buffers to 327680 but encountered ORA-27123 when trying to startup the database. I did some searches in metalink and found an article saying that the SGA size cannot exceed 2GB on AIX platforms. (Doc ID: 114934.1). Therefore I resize the db_block_buffers back to 245760.
What puzzles me is why the SGA size does not reflect my latest init.ora settings? Does anyone have any idea on how I can get the SGA to reflect the updated values in the init.ora file?

I did a find and here are the files I got:

Now, exclude the files in the product, backup and archive directories (the pfile should be in the pfile directory), and that leaves us with:
    49161 8 -rw-r--r-- 1 oracle dba 4118 Oct 11 11:22 /u01/app/oracle/admin/klb/pfile/initklb.ora
(Which is the file that I edited)
As I mentioned previously, my client is not prepared to perform an upgrade on both Oracle and AIX. As much as I would like to have them upgrade to the latest versions, it is just not possible.
Oracle 8.0.5 does not have spfiles, so there is no way for me to edit a spfile unless this is one of those undocumented tricks floating around.

  • DB connect with as/400 db2 and aix db2

    Hi,
We are implementing a connection with AS/400 IBM platform with DB2 400 (DB4) and OS400 like operating system. We are using DB-Connect to
extract data from a DB2 Database to BW (operating system AIX and DB2 UD6 - Sap Netweaver 2004).
We follow all the steps provided in SAP help to
configured the Connections. We created the source system for DB-Connect. In BW when we try to select tables and views with right button option the system gets this error " The current ABAP program "RSDL_META_UPLOAD" had to be terminated because one of the statements could not be executed".
The connection fails, and can't establish it.
    Someone knows about this topic?
    There are other options?
    I would appreciate your help.
    Regards,
    Victoria

    Hi,
For extract data with DB connect in BW from  AS/400-DB2(DB4) to aix-db2, BW write a wrong abap code.
For this reason the solutions are:
Write a funtion module with abap and native SQL for db2 (EXEC SQL) or Change the application server to windows.

  • Using MAP on networks with AIX and Oracle

Im new to MAP. We have an environment with Windows and AIX hosts which i want to use MAP on. I see plenty of references to MAP being compatable with Linux and even HP-UX.  But will it also discover AIX hosts too?  In particular, Oracle databases
    on AIX?  Thanks!!

Some distros of Linux and HP-UX for UNIX are what is supported, but it may be possible for MAP to inventory AIX, but no guarantees. For Oracle, when MAP inventories a Linux/UNIX machine, it queries for the RPM and DPKG installations then looks for ‘Oracle’
in the vendor attribute. Any application that is not listed in either of those queries is not discovered by MAP.
Therefore, if Oracle was installed by some other means then it is unlikely to be discovered through this method. Admittedly, I have almost no knowledge of how these services work and if they register software or something else.

  • Difference of using reflection on AIX and XP

    Hi,
I'm using java reflection to get the fields of a class. I'm having one issue related to the order of fileds (using getDeclaredFields()) when I run the program on AIX.
    Say i have field1,field2,...field10 in a class A.
If i try to print the Fields[] array on console, the elements are in different order when I run on Windows XP and AIX.
In windows XP (Solaris and HP-UX) the order as i defined in the source (field1 to field10).
But in AIX i'm getting in exactly reverse order. i.e. field10 to field1.
Any idea how to solve this problem?
I tried one simple way. It goes like this...
Find the os type programatically and if it is AIX.. just reverse the contents of Field[] that's returned by the getDeclaredFields() method.
Not sure if that is the correct approach.
    Thanks
    Jag

Well, the API does, if you read it, say this for java.lang.Class.getFields():
"The elements in the array returned are not sorted and are not in any particular order."
So you shouldn't be assuming any order. If you want them sorted a particular way (which would pretty much have to be alphabetical by name, since there is nothing in the Field class that tells what "order" it was defined in), you'd have to write a Comparator and sort them.

  • 10g database, cluster on aix and jdeveloper

Are there some known incompatibilities between oracle 10g database with cluster on aix and jdeveloper application (jdev 10g) using dynamic jdbc credentials (jsp, bc4j, adf)?

My application vendor advises me that my patch level on AIX should be equivalent to that of the following windows patch level. It may not be available becuase most of them are OS specific..If there is patch for Windows behaviour how are you expecting a patch for an Unix version
Explain your vendor about this buton the other hand if it is a generic issue then you should look for AIX patch

  • 32 bit version of Oracle 9i for HP-UX.  and AIX

Is it possible to download the 32 bit version of Oracle 9i for HP and AIX? The partner download site only has the 64 bit versions available.

Hi. If you will check the product lifecycle area on Metalink you will find that there will be no Oracle9i 32 bit for HP-UX or AIX. There is a document there that basically says these platforms will no longer be supported as part of Oracle's strategy to keep current with all the hardware vendors moving to 64 bit.
