Rac cloning

hello,
os: rhel
db: 10.2.0.2
cloning from rac to rac using RMAN.
so at the time of cloning it will create onlineredo logs ?
after that we should open database in resetlogs?
and any extra activities has to be done after cloning.
can answer these posts please

I agree with Fahd Mirza that it is very easy to clone to a single instance using the RMAN duplicate database command, and then convert that clone to a RAC cluster. You need to modify a copy of the init.ora file for your cluster, then duplicate the database. Bring up the database as a stand alone to make certain it is functioning. Then take it down and add in the entires to the init.ora to make it a cluster database. Bring the database online using the RAC-enabled pfile, create your spfile from the pfile, then shutdown and startup as a RAC cluster.
Final test is to use the RAC tools like srvctl to stop and start your database and nodeapps, etc. Then you are done.

The steps should be the same for Windows (with minor changes, like you may need to create Oracle service before duplicating the database).

RAC to NON-RAC Cloning in R 12 using Rapid Clone

Hi,
We are using EBS 12.0.4 with DB version Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0.
Initilally the RAC to non RAC cloning were not supported using rapid clone for this.But from Oct 19 Oracle has certified the same.
Can anybody specify me the document which contain the step by step process for RAC to NON-RAC Cloning using Rapid Clone.I cant find this.

R12 shared application file system with Rac cloning help

We have R12 with two application servers(Shared File system) and two db servers(on RAC). The same setup we have on test as well. We are using linux servers. Can anyone help me with cloning steps? Shared file system to Shared file system and RAC to RAC cloning. I am waiting for your replies.

Oracle Apps RAC TO RAC cloning from Netbackup(tape)

I am doing RAC to RAC cloning on linux 5 following is the note id i follow
Cloning Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 RAC-Enabled Systems with Rapid Clone [ID 559518.1]
In this note step 4.2 we use adclone.pl to prepare the stage on source using "Method=Rman", i think this creates image backup of the database on source system
In step 5.1.4.1 we restore the database on target using the stage backup we took in source.
So, here i was thinking if it is possible to use Netbackup server (tapes) for "rmanstage=" parameter. Because we don't have that much disk space to accommodate backup and as with Rman duplicate database we directly connect to tape with auxiliary for cloning, Please let me know if we can use this process with the above adclone.pl

Yes what you want is allowed, you are free to clone your DB using rman outside of the cloning utilities.

allow a little addition, please: the links point to the latest version of the documentation (thanks, Levi), which assumes 11.2.0.2.
I would recommend using 11.2.0.2, but if the customer insisits on 11.2.0.1, then be aware that the configuration wizard used in the documentation did not exist in 11.2.0.1. You will need a different sequence of step in this case. The easiest and best would therefore be to use 11.2.0.2 - the information was not given in the original request, hence I thought I would add this information here.

But its not clear which directories need to be copy and restore for Shared Appl top on each Node.
Also what Steps will need to be executed on Each Nodes and

Edit /u01/startapps.sh and stopapps.sh
Add VIS to the environment lines " . /u01/E-BIZ/apps/apps_st/appl/APPS*.env"
Change to => ". /u01/E-BIZ/apps/apps_st/appl/APPSVIS*.env"

+The path is different (first path is db while the second one is apps), so copy the file from the source instance to $COMMON_TOP/clone/context/apps directory on the target instance and try then -- Troubleshooting RapidClone issues with Oracle Applications R12 [ID 603104.1]+
What I meant to say that CTXORIG.xml already exists in the correct directory in the target system:
$COMMON_TOP/clone/context/apps
Anyways, I recopied the file from source to the target system $COMMON_TOP/clone/context/apps, but still the same problem. I'll continue reading "Troubleshooting RapidClone issues with Oracle Applications R12 [ID 603104.1]".
I noticed below when running "perl adcfgclone.pl appsTier" with perl debug mode:

Actually, the procedure to clone a RAC database do not differ substantially from those of a single-instance database.
You can perform your cloning as if it is a single instance database and once you have your single instance up, you just have to add another instance - and the high level steps would be:
1) Preparing the init.ora file for the second instance.
2) Adding the redo logs for thread 2;
3) Updating the OCR

RAC cloning using VMWare

hello,
Just curious if anyone has looked into cloning their RAC enviornment running on VMWare?
so create a vmware RAC template and then use it to create other RAC enviornments.
What would be some of the issues involved given the multiple layers?

First, I would never EVER use VMware for a RAC environment. RAC = High Availability. Splitting a single host into multiple "little" systems, then using RAC is IMProfessionO down right idiotic. Because as soon as the "host" system crashes, you no longer have HA. The only thing that I would "maybe" consider it for a test or even dev environment but never for production.
That being said, have you looked at the documentation?

Application cloning is failing with "ORA-12505: TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect"
Database cloning is completed successfuly . database cloned in two nodes node1 and node2
Now cloning applicatino tier with above cloned database nodes but faicing above issue .

There are many reasons why an ORA-12505 might be raised at applications cloning. For anyone on this board to assist, you will have to post the log file detail or list the clone execution file which raises this exception.

Db context file creation for rac to single instance cloning

DOC ID: 559518.1 Section 6: RAC to Single Instance Cloning mentions that the context file creation should be done as in the case of Single Instance cloning
what would be the command syntax?

so what is the syntax for rac to single instance? I reckon I will still use adclonectx.pl, but now what would be the complete sysntax for single instance cloning?

R12 cloning from RAC to NON RAC

Is there any document available either on metalink or on any other site regarding the cloning of R12 APPS and DB Tiers. as I have R12 EBS on RAC DB with OCFS2. Ichecked on metalink they said that they are not supporting for this cloning.

RAC to non-RAC cloning is supported under certain conditions - pl see MOS Doc 783188.1 (Certified RAC Scenarios for E-Business Suite Cloning). Which scenario does your install fit into ?
