I am new to RAC. I am planning to attend a course. I am in doubt which course i should go for. In oracle site I found 2 courses
Oracle Database 11g: RAC Administration Release 2/Oracle Grid Infrastructure 11g: Manage Clusterware and ASM Release 2
and
Oracle Database 11g: RAC Administration
please let me know which one is good for entry level of RAC Administration.

The course pattern is changed from 11.2 release. Previously, there was a single course of RAC Administration for 5 days which covered RAC. Now, with 112, there is a new concept of Grid Infrastructure and changes in ASM which are very prominent and can't be missed hence there is a new course of Manage Clusterware and ASM for 4 days. If you have the idea of these concepts than you can go and attend the 3 day, 11.2 RAC Administration course. If you have no idea about either of the things, its better you attend a completely different course than these two, the accelerated course . Here are the details of it,

This is a 5 day course which covers both the topics of RAC and Grid Infrastructure and ASM.

Training suggestions for RAC course
I would like to take a training course in Oracle Real Application Clusters. I previously took a 10g Admin I course with Oracle University in NYC, and it was okay, but the cost was quite high: $3000 USD for five days. They also offer a RAC course, but this is even more expensive: $3750 for five days!
I'd like to know of any quality alternatives in the United States, especially at a lower cost. I've found a few courses that seem to be good, but they cater to larger groups and on-site training.
Perhaps this isn't the best venue for such a question, but I hope that Oracle will understand someone in my position, looking for quality training at a reasonable cost.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions. Thanks, all, for your helpful comments.
Trubix seemed promising, but they haven't posted a new course in almost a year.
TUSC also seems promising. They're next scheduled RAC course is in July of this year.
Also found what looks like a good tutorial on RAC via VMware here:
http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/10g/OracleDB10gR2RACInstallationOnCentos4UsingVMware.php
Please let me know of any others that are as good or better.
I read that Oracle permits only their own courses for "hands-on credit" toward certification, but I'm not sure what that means, as I thought you needed only to pass their test to be certified. Is this true?
Thanks again. -

I went to the Oracle RAC Clusterware course 11gR2, Oracle training set up the Oracle RAC with 2 VMs inside 1 machine for students to learn.
I have only 1 server, I want to set up like that, then I can learn it.
Does anybody know how to set up like this ?The proper way would be to setup DNS (or GNS) but you can get away with putting three IP addresses with the same scan hostname in /etc/hosts on each node for a lab environment if you don't have access to a DNS server or simply don't bother. That should not be a solution for a production system but will be ok for a lab setup

RAC: Time set on servers
Hi all, I am using Oracle 10gR2 on Solaris 10.
My two servers are in a RAC env. Both of them have a different time set. There is a difference of about 12 minutes. Does it make a difference? Is it important that I synchronize the time?
Regards.....Hi,
Yes, it does make a difference.
According to the instructor in the 10gR2 RAC course, time difference of 15 minutes and more will result in a so-called 'eviction': One instance will decide the other instance is no longer there, and disconnect it, and reconfigure itself to run standalone.
You need to synchronize the time using a NTP server (NTP=network time protocol), manual synchronization is not good enough.
Please note on 9iR2 I already experienced an eviction with a much smaller difference, you have been lucky.

10g New Features for Administrators and
10g Administration Workshop 1 Release 2If you have passed 1z0-042 and 1z0-043 then my understanding is the 10g or even the 11g will fulfull the course requirement. (1 did 1z0-042+1z0-043+11gRAC to get my 10g OCP).
The training course prerequisites indicate the level of experience the candidate should have to appreciate the training course. If yu've passed those exams and are a experienced DBA then you should have no problems (though you'll have to get your head arround RAC sequences and learn to think RAC on the course and you'll know the difference between a database and an instance for sure ;-) )
(I think its good that the range of handes on courses for DBA admin OCP allows the candidate to choose either to pick a course that helps them prepare for the exam or to pick a topic that extends their knowledge if they understand the core exam topics well (and/or have passed the exam)).
You've probably found this already, but authorative information is here : [http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=244#3] -
Hi all
I migrate my application to RAC (10.2.0.3) 2 nodes, windows 2003 EE, and i have problem with Global Cache
Metrics "Database Time Spent Waiting (%)" is at 70,69079 for event class "Other" (cluster) - Global Cache
I migrate my application from one machine, after i migrate to rac (much better machins) my application work slowly
I read that some application canot by migrate too rac, but this is mostly OLTP app.
How can i optymize global cache?
Any sugestion?
Thanks in adviceHi Oscar,
I am afraid you provided not much too work on.
A few observations after working with 9i RAC for almost a year, and having followed the 10gR2 RAC course for administrators
- the speed of the interconnect is vital. It definitely should be at least 1 Gb Ethernet,. with the MTU set to 9000 bytes (instead of the usual 1500)
- The two buffer caches essentially operate as one cache. This means for every block which can't be found in the local cache, the instance will have to query the other instance. If your queries need random data and/or you conduct Full Table Scans all the time (as my app does), Cache Fusion will only make things worse.
In my case Cache Fusion is killing me as the app gets more than 50 percent of the records retrieved by Full Table Scan. In 9i, a multiblock cr request doesn't yet exist, so for 1 multiblock read I get 8 single block cr requests.
- Oracle states in the course that an unscalable app won't become scalable by using RAC, and one should tune the app in single-instance mode first.
- Oracle also states RAC is mainly suited for OLTP
- You would need to look whether either your interconnect communication is slow, or whether your app is simply flooding the interconnect. In the latter case you need to reduce communications, or get a better (fiber) interface between the two servers.

Hello all
I have passed in OCA exam (1z0-052) and now i`m looking forward to OCP exam (1z0-053), but I still have not complete any required course.
My question is:
Should I complete ADM Workshop II course only? Can i complete any other courses like RAC & Grid or DataGuard instead of ADM WORKSHOP II to get OCP?
The ADM Workshop II course is the only accepted for OCP?

tksTo obtain the 11g DBA OCP certification the 11g DBA OCA will need to pass 1z0-053 and get verified they have completed one of the approved courses.
This can be done in any order; you can pass the exam first or take the training first, whichever suits better.
If you are taking a training course directly associated with 1z0-053 (eg ADM Workshop II) then it seems more obvious to taike the training first.
If however you elect to use training such as RAC/GRID or datagard which suggests a candidate is of DBA OCP standard then taking the exam first and training second seems more sensible.
( In essence one should not attempt a training course where one does not essenitally have the knowledge/experience given in the prequisites .... ( For example an 11g DBA OCA with minimal practical experience (and without an 1z0-053) should not attempt the RAC course ). -
What is Oracle 10g Release 2 Real Application Cluster?
Hello Guys,
I have been working in Oracle database 9i for last 2 years. Just using the simple features of oracle. Now our data have grown and company wants to enhance the database version and also want to perform load balancing at oracle's end.
Have heard a lot about Oracle RAC, but i am not sure what actually is oracle rac and its installation.
What is the difference between Oracle 10g Release 2 Enterprise Installation and Oracle 10g Release 2 Real Application Cluster installation. Are these 2 different softwares available on different CDs or RAC is only a different way to install oracle 10g database in RAC mode.
Please clerify and explain. Sorry this is a very beginner level question but i want to learn it and implement it.
Regards,
Imran BaigWhat is the difference between Oracle 10g Release 2
Enterprise Installation and Oracle 10g Release 2 Real
Application Cluster installation. Are these 2Enterprise Edition is the database management software provided byu Oracle.
RAC is an extension to the Standard and Enterprise Edition to permit the same database to be managed from two or more computers. (Withe Enterprise Edition, it is an extra cost option. With Standard Edition, it is included in the price, since SE has other limitations.)
Conceptually, RAC is simple - IF you understand the difference between Instance and Database. RAC = 1 database managed by many instances
Physically, RAC requires a healthy investment in infrastructure - the infrastructure and the RAC software addresses the question: how do you get several computers able to read and write to the same disk and the same block without data corruption?
If you are serious about RAC, take a course. If you are in the US, consider http://www.psoug.org as an 'Intro to RAC' course provider. -
What direction to choose after getting ocp
Hello, guys
I am thinking about next step in my education. What course to choose among Oracle products?
I have OCP 11g already and had course in performance tuning.
Can someone give me advice what Oracle product to learn next? I must say that our organization's budget is limited, so I can choose any of 1 week Oracle courses.
I consider Oracle RAC (however, its not used widely in our country), WebLogic, Application server or SOA Suite.
The main criterias are a product's popularity and it should have perspective for the next several years
Any help would be appreciated.Thanks

You are lucky that your organization is paying for courses !
If you want to continue being a database administrator, RAC would be the direction (the 11gR2 Accelerated Grid and RAC course is the most expensive course I've seen). However, if you are also supporting other products -- e.g. WebLogic is popular -- you'd do a course in that product. If you perceive being an EBusiness Suite administrator, you'd consider a course in EBusiness Suite or Fusion Applications administration.

Thanks. I will study RAC 11g next week. -
I want to do Oracle 10g certification( 1z0-042 and 1z0-043 ). Do I have to take training course from ORACLE for
that. How much it will cost? Is there any other way like doing Oracle 9i DBA Track without this instructor led
training programme. That means I have to attend the course before taking the second exam 1z0-043.The before* bit is not true ... the order can be either way .....
Just to be clear you can take 1z0-043 before taking your hands on line course (which is what I did). The advantage in that is you dont have to fork out the money for the course before you've passed the exam, the disadvantage is it will probably take an extra 5 weeks before your OCP certificate comes in the post .. eg about 12 weeks in total after finishing the hands on course before you get your certificate ... ( in the meanwhile seek out [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I%27m_Still_Waiting] on iTunes)
I had similar choices to you - I was initiallially for choosing a 2 day 10g advanced pl/sql course (cheap) ... but the one i had seen got cancelled so 1 did a 5 day 11g RAC course instead. (expensive but good). Worth getting aware of the schedule of courses at locations convenient to youself and costs of courses and seek out the one with the best cost/benefit for yourself (that is an acceptable hands on for 10g dba). -
after doing OCP ,
does Oracle Certified Rac professional , dataguard certification both would be eligible for OCM?

I don't know who 'they' are in this context. If a vendor is truly a member of the WDP, then taking a course from them will count towards the required training.
Oracle university only authorizes WDP providers to deliver specific authorized courses that count towards Oracle Certification under the WDP program.
For practical purposes I believe these are currently (probably) the 10g/11g DBA Admin I and 10g/11g DBA admin II.
( Quite frankly IMHO Oracle WDP are EXTREMELY disfunctional, elusive, unprofessional, incompetent, unethical and possibly abbetting fraudulency in providing clear unambiguous verifiable information as to what they are about .... and I would dearly love them to get act together and prove my IMHO wrong ... but given the currenyt state of forum I believe I am entitled to my opinion ).
Anyway back to the subject.
The is nothing to stop a WDP provider offering RAC training (and perhaps even excellent training ) ... however it would not be seen by Oracle Certification as being a course authorized and valid for certification purposes. ( Additional anyWP so providing would have to ensure no license or copyright breaches ... but this isn;t really the students problem )
Please note it is possible a few providers as well as being WDP providers are also authorized partners. In this circumstance they may be authorized by Oracle University to deliver the Oracle clusterware/RAC courses provided by Oracle University and if so Oracle certification will recognise the training.
( See http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=112 )
The problem for the student is to be certain the training being offered (especially when not direct from Oracle University) is valid for Oracle Certification course requirement purposes (if that is what they need).
Your WDP institute IMHO have been helpful here that while they may be able to offer some RAC training it would (with almost 100% certainly) not be an authorized course for certification purposes.
To some extent if you start asking about OCM certification then I would have expected the OCM candidate to have thoroughly reseached the website and planned the forward path first, and have evaluated the likely versions Oracle will be providing for OCM at that course. If you are not beginning to think that way and confidently working out most things for oneself then you are not thinking and researching like an OCM !
However, as I've already indicated (and Brandye has seconded), even if you are a 10G OCP and take two approved courses, scheduling the test to become a 10G OCM is going to be difficult. I expect this to get worse when 12C comes out. -
How can I pass dynamic file name from a directory to sqlldr as data file name.
I have the following file,
d:\test\test_01.dat
The file name changes to test_02 then to test_03 or may be test_xyz.dat, how can I pass this dynamic file name to sqlldr script to load data in database tables.
Thanks in advance.Mr Sami Hello
You know me? I was you student in Abu Dhabi. In Rac course :)
I wrote a little script for you to create some .ctl files with your test_01.dat file names and run it...
This is the script. May be it will be useful for you inshallah
echo off
SET /a i=0
:loop
IF %i%==10 GOTO END
echo LOAD DATA >>test%i%.ctl
echo INFILE '/tmp/in%i%.dat' >>test%i%.ctl
echo BADFILE '/tmp/bad.dat' >>test%i%.ctl
echo DISCARDFILE 'dis.dat' >>test%i%.ctl
echo REPLACE >>test%i%.ctl
echo INTO TABLE your_table(your_column POSITION (1:350) CHAR(380)) >>test%i%.ctl
echo sqlldr userid=username/pass... control='/tmp/test%i%.ctl' log='/tmp/log%i%.log'; >>run.cmd
SET /a i=%i%+1
GOTO LOOP
:end
echo That’s end!
1. You can just change for loop interval to what you want
2. It will create .ctl files as you want.
3. After each .ctl file creation, it will add this file to run.cmd.
4. When the script end, you'll just run run.cmd and it will load all created .ctl files to sqlloader
That's all
Let me know result...
Thanks ...
