RAC Diagram: Where does HBA card fit in?

Version : 11g
I know that all nodes in a RAC configuration have an HBA card and that HBA is somehow connected to the Shared storage. In the following link, we can see that, through NIC meant for public IP, nodes connect to Shared storage.
http://www.akadia.com/services/ora_rac.html
So, where does HBA fit in the whole RAC set up?

For the public RAC network you use what? A network card (aka NIC) and a network driver.
An HBA is like a NIC. But instead of wiring into a network switch, it wires via fibre into a storage array switch (where the switch connects to a SAN). It also needs a driver.
Typically HBAs have dual fibre channel ports. This means that the kernel, via the driver, will see the very same storage device (aka LUN), twice. Once via the one port and then again via the second port.
A LUN will however have a unique identifier (called a <i>WWID</i>). A driver (typically Multipath on Linux, or Powerpath when using EMC) is used to create a logical device that Oracle CRS and ASM can use. It uses the WWIDs to determine the unique device (LUN) and then creates a single logical devices that "sits on top" of the physical devices that points to the very same LUN on the storage server.
So instead of the application layer having to deal with the complexities of mulltiple I/O paths to a LUN, this is done by the driver. The application layer simply uses the logical multipath device and the multipath driver does the rest.
So a HBA is pretty low down in RAC architecture - and RAC itself does not deal directly with it. Just like it does not deal directly with a NIC and its settings.
PS. As already mentioned, the URL you referred to uses IP as a storage protocol and thus a NIC instead of a HBA. Questionable whether this is a good idea as a HBA provides dual 2Gb pipes - and the typical NIC used will be shared IP running at best at 1Gb, using a high latency protocol like TCP. A better option than HBAs are using HCAs and Infiniband instead. This runs dual ports at 40Gb (each) using the low latency SRP storage protocol.

The 15" Retina's will have better performance than any 13" Retina. Not only do the 15" machines have dedicated GPU's, but they also have quad-core processors, whereas the 13" Retina's only have dual-core processors.

If i buy an itunes gift card online - where does it go to?

It depends on what precisely you mean. If you buy a gift card from the Apple Store (the one that sells hardware) or another such retailer, it's a physical card that will be shipped to you. If you buy a gift through the iTunes Store, it comes in the form of a redemption code in an email. Arrival can take anywhere from minutes to a day or so.

  • P6N Diamond, SLI question: where does the 2nd card go?

As per title, I have a P6N Diamond motherboard with 4 video card slots (four PCI-e x16), two yellow + two white. I have a single GPU/card in the first slot as usual, but I got a 2nd GPU/card today. Where does it go so I could get 16x16 SLI? Manual is unclear.
    2nd white slot (third PCI-e x16) or the yellow (second PCI-e x16) ?
I ask because this motherboard has non-standard color coding. Even the RAM slots are not color coded (channel-wise). Instead of A-B-A-B color arrangement on the RAM slots as every other motherboard out there, this motherboard has A-A-B-B arrangement.

Update: First of all, the case connectors on the motherboard are in the way for SLI purposes. They are too tall and block the insertion of the second card. On my old ASUS moterboard the case pins were on the bottom of the PCB, out of the way, but on this MSI motherboard they are on the side, lined up with the PCI-e x16 slot. Really dumb design! It might be fine for short video cards like 9600GT or similar, but for extended length dual slot video cards like GTX260 (which what I'm using) they are in the way, so much that the second card can't be inserted into the slot at all.
I spent two hours modding the connectors. I had to snap and break the plastic plugs, remove the metal pins and mod them so they are only 3mm tall, instead of 9mm. I know this motherboard is old so MSI couldn't plan for GTX260/280 and other long cards, but cards like 7950GX2 and similar did exist and predate this motherboard so there is no excuse for MSI for placing the connectors in that position.
Anyways, warning for any P6N Diamond owners: if you have extended length or longer dual slot video cards like GTX 260, GTX 280, and 4870x2 you will have problems with clearance and would need to do some severe modding or get a different motherboard.

  • Regular Airport card - fit in iMac DV SE 400?

    Hello there,
I'm trying to install an 802.b AirPort card on my iMac DV SE 400 but it does't seem to fit. The antena cable in the iMac inserts properly in the card but the plastic slot where the card in supposed to go is too wide. Also, there's no male connector in the iMac to connect the card to. The AirPort card fits and works properly in both, my G4 MDD and my 867 PB. I thought this card was supposed to work in my iMac. Am I missing something?
Thanks a lot for any help you may provide.
    Jacobo

Yes that card fits but you also need the adapter. More information can be found in Duane, "iMac CRT: I want to make my iMac wireless...", 01:51pm Jan 31, 2005 CDT.

  • Where does iPhone store contacts?

    Hello,
I will be in a different country for a few days and I will buy a SIM card from a different operator over there.
Where does iPhone store contacts? Will my contacts stay on the phone with the new SIM card?
    Thank you.

Contacts are stored on the device. The iPhone does not store contacts on the SIM. Make sure you have been backing up the device and syncing your contacts with a supported application on the computer or iCloud or other cloud service. Changing the SIM will not affect your contacts.

  • Where does Lightroom keep my photos?

I always import my photos from my CF card into my USB external hard drive. When I view my hard drive, Finder shows all my photos and I always thought that's where my pictures were.
Then, I unplugged my laptop, took it to another location, and run Lightroom on battery. Wait a minute, all the photos I thought were on the USB external hard drive which is now disconnected showed up and play perfectly in slide show.
I went Finder through every file in the Macintosh HD, I can't see a single photo, yet Lightroom is definitely keeping a copy of it somewhere in the Mac HD.
    My questions are:
    (1) Where does Lightroom hide these photos?
    (2) How does this impact my Macintosh HD storage capacity?
    (3) How can I remove these photos from the Macintosh HD so that if I lost my Macbook Pro, the thief cannot steal my photos.
    Please help.
    Thank you all in advance.
    Eddie

What you are seeing are the previews that Lr generates for every image that gets imported.
    (1) These previews are not hidden but are in the same directory as the Lr database. Read more here:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=333660
    (2) Lr previews -- depending on what size you generate and the number of images imported -- can consume a lot of space. But disk is cheap.
    (3) Paranoia is no reason to delete the previews. Don't lose your laptop!

  • Finding firmware version for HBA card

Does anybody knows a command in solaris 9 to display firmware version for HBA cards or other pci cards currently in system

I've not heard of a way of reading add-on card firmware levels from the OBP...
However, you might be lucky insofar that the firmware levels get displayed at boot time. Emulex cards always do this as one of the very first things that pass on the screen after powering up.

  • New E 550, what kind of SSD and where does it go?

Sorry if this has been answered already (searched but couldn't find it) but I would like to add an SSD to my new E 550.  I was just going to do a swap out for the regular HDD with an older SSD I had but I found out that my older SSD is too large. So at this point since I need a new one, I was wondering if I could get an SSD that would allow me to keep the HDD as additional storage. Can I get an m2 or msata SSD?  And where does it go exactly?  Any warranty issues?  tks, Ty

Appreciate the reply! I was hoping that there was a mini-PCIE slot like my older one but I wasn't sure if I could get to it (I opened up the panels underneath and looked to no avail) or if the WAN card was using it. tks again, Ty [Edit]
Clicked the Maintenance Manual link you provided and found this.  2101 Detection error on HDD1 (Ultrabay HDD) 1. Reseat the hard disk drive. 2. Replace the Ultrabay® hard disk drive. 3. • WHERE does BC store tokens that trigger recurring Paypal Pro donations?

Some customers who initiate monthly donations through our BC website into Paypal Pro do not even show up on my list of recurring payment customers when I'm logged into Paypal Pro. Yet their monthly donations continue.
We are dealing with some very frustrated donors because we cannot FIND the donors in Paypal to make adjustment or cancel a recurring payment when they needed stop or suspend the recurring donation for a time.
One faithful donor actually had to change credit card expiration date in order to stop a recurring payment!
WHERE does BC store tokens that initiate recurring payments so amounts can be adjusted or cancelled??!
This is an urgent matter - Someone from BC please HELP!

Liam, This is RT. We created this website. It is set up to with PayPal Pro seamless gateway and it uses secure zones to charge recurring donations. We have used this same method with other sites and none of them have isssues. I have addressed this in a forum a month ago but have not received any replies: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5771650#5771650
We have been tracking teh error codes for each failed charge and they all relate to failers due to security isses and due to expired card. I explained in much more detail in my post.

  • Does Java Card require a USB CCID-compliant smart card reader?

    Hi experts,
Does Java Card require a USB CCID-compliant smart card reader? I'm currently working with PC/SC usb token and it requires usb CCID-compliant smart card reader, which seems very inconvenient for my clients and I'm wondering if Java Card has the same issue? (I'm thinking about switching the project to Java Card)
Any help will be much appreciated!
    Z.Zen

    Hi,
You will still need to install drivers for some card readers to function correctly. I know some work out of the box on Windows and OS X (10.5+ at least) ships with the pcsclite CCID driver from the Muscle card project. When I view my reader in Windows device manager the Manufacturer is "USB CCID Compliant".
The only real difference between what you are doing with the USB CCID token and Java Card is that the card and reader are separate in the Java Card option where as the USB token has the reader and chip in one package.
    Cheers,
    Shane

  • Where does  the control moves at first at END-OF PAGE  or  END-OF-SELECTION

Is END-OF PAGE triggered  like TOP-OF-PAGE from the AT-SELECTON-SCREEN  automatically with a write statement & where does  the control moves at first
    at END-OF PAGE  or  END-OF-SELECTION?

    Hi,
    1. End-of-selection:
This event is triggered after the start-of-selection. to display the contents on the report.
2.Top-of-page: Every time a new page is triggered. Mainly this is used for header of the report.
    3. End-of-page : every time the list data reaches the footer region of the page.
This way first data is disaplyed then it reaches the footer..
    first End-of-selection then End-of-page
These example may help u in detail...
    Leaving Event Blocks Using STOP
If you use the STOP statement within an event block, the system stops processing the block immediately. The ABAP runtime environment triggers the next event according to the following diagram:
Before and during selection screen processing, the next event in the prescribed sequence is always called. From the AT SELECTION-SCREEN event onwards, the system always jumps from a STOP statement directly to the END-OF-SELECTION statement. Once the corresponding event block has been processed, the system displays the list.
The following program is connected to the logical database F1S.
    REPORT EVENT_TEST.
    NODES: SPFLI, SFLIGHT, SBOOK.
    START-OF-SELECTION.
    WRITE 'Test program for STOP'.
    GET SBOOK.
    WRITE: 'Bookid', SBOOK-BOOKID.
    STOP.
    END-OF-SELECTION.
    WRITE: / 'End of Selection'.
    This produces the following output:
    Test Program for STOP
    Bookid 00010001
    End of Selection
As soon as the first line of SBOOK has been read, the system calls the END-OF-SELECTION event block.
    Exiting Event Blocks Using EXIT
If you use the EXIT statement within an event block but not in a loop, the system stops processing the block immediately. The ABAP runtime environment triggers the next event according to the following diagram:
Before and during selection screen processing, the next event in the prescribed sequence is always called. From the START-OF-SELECTION event onwards, the system starts the list processor directly when the EXITstatement occurs, and displays the list.
If the EXIT statement occurs inside a DO, WHILE, or LOOP loop, it is the loop that terminates, not the processing block.
The following executable program is connected to the logical database F1S.
    REPORT demo_program_exit_1.
    NODES: spfli, sflight, sbook.
    START-OF-SELECTION.
    WRITE 'Test Program for EXIT'.
    GET sbook.
    WRITE: 'Bookid', sbook-bookid.
    EXIT.
    END-OF-SELECTION.
    WRITE: / 'End of selection'.
    This produces the following output:
    Test Program for EXIT
    Bookid 00010001
After the first line of SBOOK has been read, the list is displayed immediately.
The following executable program is connected to the logical database F1S.
    REPORT demo_program_exit_2.
    NODES: spfli, sflight, sbook.
    DATA flag(1) TYPE c.
    AT SELECTION-SCREEN.
    IF carrid-low IS INITIAL.
    flag = 'X'.
    EXIT.
    ENDIF.
    START-OF-SELECTION.
    IF flag = 'X'.
WRITE / 'No input for CARRID'.
    EXIT.
    ENDIF.
    GET spfli.
    GET sflight.
    GET sbook.
    END-OF-SELECTION.
    WRITE / 'End of Selection'.
If the user does not enter a value for CARRID-LOW, the output appears as follows:
    No selection made for CARRID
After the first EXIT statement, the next START-OF-SELECTION event is triggered. After the second EXITstatement, the output list is displayed.
    Regards.
