Oracle Retail Products Installation and Implementation
Can individual modules like Oracle Retail Allocation be used as standalone Products, without installing Oracle RMS?
The following point is mentioned in the Oracle® Retail Merchandising Implementation Guide Release 13.2.4 E28940-01
"RMS owns virtually all of the information that Oracle Retail Allocation needs to operate and the information that Oracle Retail Allocation provides is of primary interest/use for RMS. As a result Oracle Retail Allocation has limited interaction with other Oracle Retail Merchandising Operations Management applications. For Oracle Retail Merchandising
Operations Management applications that Oracle Retail Allocation does interact with it is managed through direct reads from Oracle Retail Merchandising Operations Management application tables, direct calls to Oracle Retail Merchandising Operations Management packages, and Oracle Retail Allocation packages based on Oracle Retail Merchandising Operations Management application tables."
So, for implementing Oracle Retail Allocation, is Oracle RMS mandatory? My understanding is yes.
The text you provided indicates that Allocations does not directly communicate with other modules, such as SIM, but instead does so via RMS. When you install RMS without Alloc, you actually get a lot of the database tables & DB package code for Alloc. This gives some indication as to the level of dependency that Alloc has on having RMS installed. -
Oracle RAC installation failover
Hi,
I have an Oracle RAC installation with 2 nodes with the data stored on a shared OCFS partition. I had a client test the connection using jdbc string for RAC failover. I tried shutting down one of the nodes on the RAC installation and the client could not connect to the oracle cluster database for the next 5 to 10mins.
I understand that the client would failover to the next available listener (On the next retry connection) if the node it is currently listening to has failed. Is there any configuration i should make to increase the failover efficiency?
Thanks for any advice.Hi,
Server side failover is arranged by setting the remote_listener parameter.
Client side failover is set by using T(ransparent) A(pplication) F(ailover) (9i and higher)
or F(ast)C(onnection)F(ailover). Both are documented in the Net administrators manual for the version you didn't care to mention.
As far as I know, both TAF and FCF are not supported by the JDBC thin driver.

DB creation failure [RAC, Suse and 9i]
We have managed to install 9i on a 2 server Linux cluster. All indications are that both nodes and the shared storage are up and running correctly. When we use dbca to create a clustered database, both nodes show up as install options.
However, when we attempt to create the new database, the install fails each time at 55% with a message regarding the file location <db name>rawtemp. The error is ORA 1257 "Cannot reuse raw_temp; unknown file size".
We have deleted the database after it has failed, and also deleted and recreated the /dev/raw location as well as the actual logical volume, all without success. Does anyone have a suggestion.
Thank you in advance! The post doesn't provide enough data to give you a definate answer, however, we cover the details of RAC installation and configuration in our new book, check it out at:

Did you make sure to set up the cluster manager software and watchdog software (or its equivilent, hangcheck, in 9.2?)

10g grid agent installation and configuration on oracle RAC
Hi All,
I have one two node RAC setup on HP-UX itanium platform and I want to install oracle 10g grid agent on both the RAC nodes to monitor the RAC instances and databases and OMS repository server is ready and running. Only I have installed agents on both the nodes, but tns entry and hosts files on OMS server and both the nodes modified.
But, nodes are not getting automatically discovered by OMS server. And what is the command to configure the grid agent on RAC instances.
I have to install grid agent on both the nodes individually or it can be installed on single node and can be integrated with other node.
Please help me out in this regard.......
Thanks in Advance,
Sukanta Paul.
Edited by: sukanta paul on Aug 18, 2009 10:16 PMSimilar problem and installation does not detect the rac nodes and installation is done locally which does not help the situation..By the way we all consult documentation and the whole point of having a forum is so we have a potential fix or work around and not link from here to documentation. Hi,
I have two different databases running on 8.1.5.0 and 8.1.7.4 and the size of databases are 110GB and 130GB.
Now we want to upgrade this database into 10.2.0.2 and implement RAC.
Could any one suggest the best way/document to upgrade database into 10g.
Existing Platform is Sun Solaris 5.8(32 bits)
New Platform is AIX 5.2(64 bits).
ThanksSince the database is being migrated from Solaris to AIX, you cannot physically copy the database to the new server. You can choose to use Oracle's export and import utilities. This depends on much downtime you can afford. You can also create a new database on the AIX server and use CTAS (create table as select) to bring over your tables. This requires some additional post-migration work on your part to re-create the indexes, constraints, default values, etc. Export/import will do most of this for you.
If you have the option to upgrade to Oracle 10gR2, another possibility is to upgrade your database on the Solaris server and use transportable tablespaces to create a new 10g database on the AIX server. Transportable tablespaces in 10gR2 allow you to migrate across operating systems. Be sure to review Oracle's certification matrix to ensure that you are installing Oracle database software on a certified platform. -
Set up Virtual IP and Private IP for each node in RAC installation
I am new to Oracle 10G RAC installation, based on the documentation, I need to assign a public IP, Virtual IP, private IP for each node, I know how to assign public IP for each node, I can assign the IP from the router, but I don't know how to assign the Virtual IP and private IP, since the private network is only connected by a switch, the switch is not able to assign IP to server, should I just go to the host file
%SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
of each node to put IP in the file? what else should I do? I already read through the document from Oracle "Oracle Real Application Clusters, Quick Installation Guide for Oracle Database Standard Edition 10g Release 1 for window".I am still keep thinking why each node need a virtual IP address? if each mode has a virtual IP, which IP address the client can be specified? I have multiple application servers work as clients.

How to change of NAME and IP after RAC installation.
Hi Friends,
I have a challenge here...Would appreciate if anyone can help me..
I have to install 10.2.0.3 Oracle RAC on windows 2003 server 64 bit.
My issue is now the server names and ips are set and I am going to install the RAC.
But the client need is that after one month, they need to change the names and ips of the servers (a one time change).
Because according to their server naming standards, current production servers are having the acceptable names and ips.
The installation was on a 32 bit OS, so they are facing out of process memory errors. Thats why they are going to 64 bit OS on new servers.
After the new servers are ready, the data will be migrated to new server. After a month, they need to change the names of new servers to that of the old (current production) servers.
Could anybody help me by giving me information about how to change the NAME and IP after a RAC installation ?
Any metalink notes or commands as it is........
Thank you,
Mahesh.Hi,
You can change the IP later but you can not change the hostname of the system.
You have to install CRS freah if you want to change the hostname of the system.
Please let us know which IP you want to change.
You can see the metalink Note.276434.1 for VIP or VIP hostname change.

10gR2 RAC, more 10gR2 RAC, DataGuard and Grid Control on Windows 2003
Hello all,
I have never used GC to implement DG between two different RAC installations, so if i could just a few questions to the experts.
1) It seems that the Grid Control GUI of the DG broker cannot created a RAC instance for physical/logical standby. You have to use the third option from the wizzard, the one about the previously created standby database.
Can i hope that as long as i create the RAC standby i will still be able to work with GC?
2) Currently, when i try to create a physical standby from my primary RAC instance, i get a Java exception when i try to perform the backup and message like "Index: 3, Size: 3". doesnt really help... Does anybody know what this means?
3) Once i have the whole solution implemented, will the two clusters require the presence of the Grid Control machine to "talk to each other"? Ie what will happen if i shutdown the Grid Control machine?
GC: Grid Control
DG: Data Guard
RAC: Real Application Clusterswell i skipped Grid Control all together and went for an all command-line approach and ... it works! Maybe i shall setup GC now to see graphically what i did, but i found more confidence working the traditional way, both for creating the standby backup with RMAN and starting up the initial standby instance, registering it with the clustered ASM and adding more stby instances with srvctl as i needed.
I found a great ally in all the documents listed in the MAA section of oracle.com
and i could only suggest them (at least until 10.2 version of GC comes out)

10gR2 SE RAC installation on Windows 2003
Hello,
I want to install RAC on two nodes with Windows 2003 operating system.
I have the following questions:
Do I need Windows Clustering Software installed before I go for RAC clusterware installation?
If not, how do I setup shared drive so that both systems can see and access OCR and voting disks?
Is there any good documentation for RAC installation on Windows platform?
Thanks
JHi,
Do I need Windows Clustering Software installed before I go for RAC clusterware installation? No, you dont need any Windows clustering software for implement Oracle RAC.
If not, how do I setup shared drive so that both systems can see and access OCR and voting disks? You need install the clusterware pre-requisites before install the Oracle Clusterware, you must see the next documentation. There explain how configure the shared disk and other pre-requisites for Clusterware, for example raw devices and other settings.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b14207/storage.htm#sthref244
Is there any good documentation for RAC installation on Windows platform?Yea, there is a good documentation for RAC Installation on Windows, look the next URL for more information.

Feasibility of making a RAC installation on a single machine
Hii,
Is it possible to make a RAC installation on a single machine using oracle 11gR2?If so, how?Pls guide me through.Feasible? ... certainly. Meaningful ... no!
There are a number of reasons one might wish to implement RAC ... horizontal scaling and high availability come to mind. With a single machine both are impossible.
Want to do this for purposes of personal training? ... Waste of time as you can not really learn how to build and maintain a real cluster. Far better to go to eBay, pick up a used 800 series or more recent NetApp, and create the real thing. -
Oracle 10g RAC installation on HP-UX 11.31 for SAP ERP 6.04
Dear experts,
We are trying to install SAP ERP 6.0 EHP4 with Oracle 10g RAC on HP-UX 11.31. Please note that, We are using VERITAS cluster filesystem (CFS) for this purpose and not HP-UX ServiceGuard ClusterFileSystem.
*As per SAP procedure, we have installaed plain plain SAP system with single instance Oracle (ref: Configuration of SAP NetWeaver for Oracle Database 10gRAC guide). Now we are first trying to install Oracle Clusterware (CRS) and then we will install Oracle RAC software. Is this procedure right?*
Which file (and its path) we have to use for CRS installation and its patch? Is it runInstaller under /oracle/stage/102_64/clusterware? With this file we can install CRS 10.2.0.1. Similarly for Oracle RAC, which files we are supposed to use, i.e for installation and patch upgrade?
Also can we use clusterware package available from Oracle directly in the SAP environment?
We tried to install CRS with runInstaller while running Configuration Assistant after root.sh script.
The following commands are failing in Configuration Assistant:
/oracle/CRS/102_64/bin/racgons add_config erpprdd1:4948 erpprdd2:4948
/oracle/CRS/102_64/bin/oifcfg setif -global lan1/20.20.20.0:cluster_interconnect lan0/192.168.3.0:public
/oracle/CRS/102_64/bin/cluvfy stage -post crsinst -n erpprdd1,erpprdd2
1st command does not give any output if run manually.
2nd commands o/p: PRIF-12: failed to initialize cluster support services
3rd commands fails in every check
Please suggest the solution and expecting answers to the above mentioned questions.
Thanks & Regards,

Relevant docs for Service Guard (SG) cluster are available at http://docs.hp.com. Hope you have checked for the suport of oracle 92x on HP-UX 11.31

You can go for combined os migration and db release upgrade also at a stretch with the same downtime. -
