What is OS Version?
You have to have:
1. Share storage ... all node can access this storage.
2. You should have 2 NICs (Network Interface Card) for Public network and Private network
3. Switch ... for Public + Private network -> Oracle recommend to use Gig Ethernet for Private Network (Inter connect)
4. IP Address for Public IP/VIP/ Private IP, If you use 11gR2 you need IPs for SCAN
You can read many details at Oracle Docs:
10g :

11g:

Well, I would ask you to get a good box , 1gb ram is just TOO tiny for a RAC install. In my home box, I have got 4gig of ram and I still feel its not adequate. Anyways, if you are on Windows, I guess Jeff's article to make 2 node rac on windows should be a good thing to start from.

  • Oracle 10g RAC installation on HP-UX 11.31 for SAP ERP 6.04

    Dear experts,
We are trying to install SAP ERP 6.0 EHP4 with Oracle 10g RAC on HP-UX 11.31. Please note that, We are using VERITAS cluster filesystem (CFS) for this purpose and not HP-UX ServiceGuard ClusterFileSystem.
*As per SAP procedure, we have installaed plain plain SAP system with single instance Oracle (ref: Configuration of SAP NetWeaver for Oracle Database 10gRAC guide). Now we are first trying to install Oracle Clusterware (CRS) and then we will install Oracle RAC software. Is this procedure right?*
Which file (and its path) we have to use for CRS installation and its patch? Is it runInstaller under /oracle/stage/102_64/clusterware? With this file we can install CRS 10.2.0.1. Similarly for Oracle RAC, which files we are supposed to use, i.e for installation and patch upgrade?
Also can we use clusterware package available from Oracle directly in the SAP environment?
We tried to install CRS with runInstaller while running Configuration Assistant after root.sh script.
The following commands are failing in Configuration Assistant:
    /oracle/CRS/102_64/bin/racgons add_config erpprdd1:4948 erpprdd2:4948
    /oracle/CRS/102_64/bin/oifcfg setif -global  lan1/20.20.20.0:cluster_interconnect lan0/192.168.3.0:public
    /oracle/CRS/102_64/bin/cluvfy stage -post crsinst -n erpprdd1,erpprdd2
1st command does not give any output if run manually.
2nd commands o/p: PRIF-12: failed to initialize cluster support services
3rd commands fails in every check
Please suggest the solution and expecting answers to the above mentioned questions.
    Thanks & Regards,

Relevant docs for Service Guard (SG) cluster are available at http://docs.hp.com. Hope you have checked for the suport of oracle 92x on HP-UX 11.31

Indeed, we don't plan the migration of application. On the other hand, it is complicated to do the assessment for application migration.

You can go for combined os migration and db release upgrade also at a stretch with the same downtime.

  • Need 11gr2 RAC install Guide on Solaris 10 x86 using containers and NFS

I'm looking for an 11gr2 RAC install Guide on Solaris 10 x86 using 2-3 containers. I need to have the NFS server reside in the global zone or on a 3rd container visable to the two rac containers.
    Please share me installation guide!
    Thank you!
PS - I currently have run into an install issue -
Can't change ownership on /oracle/products/11.2.0/ocr/: not owner at /oracle/app/11.2.0/grid/crs/install/crsconfig_lib.pm line 5014.
I suspect the NFS share params from the NFS server in the global zone are not 100% correct to the two rac zones/containers.

Have you visited Oracle Support Services website (formerly metalink) to determine if your desired configuration is supported?
Last time I looked it was not.
That said Oracle database installation guides are fully documented online.

  • RAC Installation

    hi
i m trying to install 9i RAC on windows 2000....installation guide realy doesnt work....according to installation guide i created logical drives on my single hard disk and down loaded CLUSTER FILE SYSTEM pack from oracle website.....next step is to run CLUSTERSETUP.EXE file in preinstall_rac\clustersetup\folders but it returns me error when i click NEXT on second screen(Create Cluster) and error message is "Unable to find an oracle disk partition. Please exit from the wizard, create Oracle partitions and try again"
can some one tell me all steps briefly??? for example what would i do firt and what afterwards etc....
do i need to run something on all node before starting any installation??? if yes then how? and do i need to create raw unformated logical drives after performing any specific configuring other nods in RAC...kindly tell me all steps...may i have a single hard drive whos one partition is NTFS and on the same physical hard drive i can create extended and then logical p[artition?
    Best Regards

you dont wrote about tasks of your rac installation.
if you need oas cluster there is a next problem: you cannt use network load balancer because nlb is not comppatible with mscs.
but i dont know about problems with database cluster.
im used such configuration last year.
Now i have the rac10g/db10g/ofs/mscs configuration.

  • Feasibility of making a RAC installation on a single machine

    Hii,
Is it possible to make a RAC installation on a single machine using oracle 11gR2?If so, how?Pls guide me through.

Feasible? ... certainly. Meaningful ... no!
There are a number of reasons one might wish to implement RAC ... horizontal scaling and high availability come to mind. With a single machine both are impossible.
Want to do this for purposes of personal training? ... Waste of time as you can not really learn how to build and maintain a real cluster. Far better to go to eBay, pick up a used 800 series or more recent NetApp, and create the real thing.

  • Oracle single instance rac installation

    hi,
do I need minimum of 2 servers in order to carry out 11.2 oracle single instance RAC installation ? or that its possible with one node? and then can add more nodes in future?
is there any article/documents on this?
    thanks

"The cloning process assumes that you successfully installed an Oracle Clusterware home and an Oracle home with Oracle RAC on at least one node. In addition, all root scripts must have run successfully on the node from which you are extending your cluster database."
    also
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/rac.112/e10717/intro.htm#BEIHEJGD
"Overview of Cloning and Extending Oracle Clusterware in Grid Environments
Cloning nodes is the preferred method of creating new clusters. The cloning process copies Oracle Clusterware software images to other nodes that have similar hardware and software. Use cloning to quickly create several clusters of the same configuration. Before using cloning, you must install an Oracle Clusterware home successfully on at least one node using the instructions in your platform-specific Oracle Clusterware installation guide.
For new installations, or if you must install on only one cluster, Oracle recommends that you use the automated and interactive installation methods, such as Oracle Universal Installer or the Provisioning Pack feature of Oracle Enterprise Manager. These methods perform installation checks to ensure a successful installation. To add or delete Oracle Clusterware from nodes in the cluster, use the addNode.sh and rootcrs.pl scripts."
it doesnt directly say its possible and I cant find full documentation on how to go about it ... but seem like its possible ?

  • RAC Installation Requirements

    Hi Gurus
We would be thinking to install RAC for new application.
    My requiremets are as follow.
These are all general requirements and no specific to OS and any thing
1> What could be the Hardware requirements (Like Nodes should be same hardware or change can also possible in RAC)
2>Software requiremets (Like what all softwares are required for installing RAC,Any software depedency)
    3>Network requirement
    and last one
Can i have different node in RAC as 1 node running in London and other in New York ?
    Thanks in Advance !!!!!!
    Regards

You should be able to find most of your answers in the "Oracle® Real Application Clusters
Installation Guide" - for 11g R2, that document can be found here. See Chapter 1 Section 2, "Overview of Server Hardware, Network and Operating System."
Although not required, ideally you would want the hardware configuration of each node to be identical. However, it is entirely acceptable for the hardware configuration of each node in the cluster to be configured differently (different number of CPUs, physical memory, etc.). Oracle recommends that the Operating System release/version/patch level be the same on all nodes in the cluster.
As for your question regarding the distance between nodes in a cluster, there is the concept of a "[Stretch Cluster|http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&q=oracle+stretch+cluster&aq=f&oq=&aqi=g1]," whereby nodes in a cluster can be placed up to a finite distance apart from one another to prevent situations where the loss of a data center takes out both/all nodes. The distance between London and New York likely exceeds the limitation for a stretch cluster, though. You could perhaps consider having two clusters: One in New York and one in London and having Data Guard set up between them. ;-)

  • Set up Virtual IP and Private IP for each node in RAC installation

I am new to Oracle 10G RAC installation, based on the documentation, I need to assign a public IP, Virtual IP, private IP for each node, I know how to assign public IP for each node, I can assign the IP from the router, but I don't know how to assign the Virtual IP and private IP, since the private network is only connected by a switch, the switch is not able to assign IP to server, should I just go to the host file
    %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
of each node to put IP in the file? what else should I do? I already read through the document from Oracle "Oracle Real Application Clusters, Quick Installation Guide for Oracle Database Standard Edition 10g Release 1 for window".

I am still keep thinking why each node need a virtual IP address? if each mode has a virtual IP, which IP address the client can be specified? I have multiple application servers work as clients.
