Rac installation on AIX with physical disks.

we have aix 6.1 server (2 lpar/vio) and I am planning to install oracle RAC 11GR2.  We do not have storage so need to use available physical disks.
Is it possible to create RAC with phisical disks.  We do not have Aix administrator so please Guide me by step by step commands.
We need RAC with ASM.

    HI,
the second node (second root.sh) should not want to "create" the diskgroup data, since it is already there.
This pretty much sounds like you tried to start both root.sh (on the first node and on the second node) at the same time, not waiting for it to finish on the first node.
It is important, that before you start the root.sh on the second node, it has to be finished successfully on the first node for the cluster to update the information.

  • Oracle installation on AIX with existing instances

    Hi,
I would like to know if there is a procedure document which can explain the installation of Oracle 9.2 on AIX platform of a host, where there are 3 instances of DB already existing.
Do I need to run 'rootpre.sh' before I execute runinstaller?
What precautions that I need to take care? I am worries if I do any new environment variables setup that may disturb the existing instances of SAP R/3/oracle.
    Thanks,
    Ramesh.

see also this SAP note beside the SAP note  98252.

  • BO4 Installation on AIX with DB2

    Hello,
I hope this is the correct forum in which to pose such a question.
We are currently planning an installation of BO4 on AIX and our standard choice of database platform is DB2 UDB V9.7. I have analysed the numerous SAP planning and installation guides for BO4 but am unclear as to what file systems the installation will demand for the DB2 system. For a traditional SAP AS ABAP/Java installation we would be creating /db2/<SID>/sapdata1-4 but there appears to be no such requirement in BO4.
Is there anyone out there who has performed this kind of installation or who has any useful information? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Gary

    Hello,
just create a simple Schema in the Tablespace on any DB2 Database in your organisation you wish. Grant the user full access right to only this schema and your done. Prior for installing BI4 install the DB2 Client on the AIX Host where BI4 gets installed and configure it to access the newly created schema.
Also check SAP Note - 1384629

  • Which command can get physical disks information?

    Hi all,
I need to put datafiles, controlfiles and logfiles into different disks to get better performance.
I used "df -k" to get the disks' spaces, and I only got the filesystem information.
I CAN NOT get physical disks information. How can I do that?
    Thanks for your help.

I need to put datafiles, controlfiles and logfiles into different disks to get better performance.<br>If the disks are different but under the same disk controler, the result will be the same.<br>
If you want tune, you need to know what disks are under what disk controler.<br>

Anyway, are you sure that you need this repartition ? Is there no other way to increase perf before to think disk repartition ?<br>

  • How to map ASM disk path to physical disk on AIX?

    Hi Everyone,
I am working on a plug-in for Oracle Enterprise Manager 10gR2 on AIX 5.3 which provides monitoring of storage arrays and supports ASM databases in addition to the 'emrep' database. One of the metric of that plug-in is populated by the result from a korn shell script. The script directly runs on the AIX host (connected to the storage array by FC cables via HBA ports) and retrieves the mapping for -- Physical disk - Logical Disk - LUN - ASM Disk.
Now, I was able to get the mapping for Physical Disk – Logical Disk – LUN, but could not map ASM Disk. I googled a lot for any clue but did not find the answer to this specific problem.
Now, I have the list of physical disks used for ASM by the command—
    lspv
    hdisk0 0001c22ac8d664ca rootvg active
    hdisk1 0001c22aa51f496a Oracle active
    hdisk2 0001c22ac478263a scratch active
    hdisk3 0001c22ac472549a Oracle active
    hdisk4 0001c22ac4725d6a Oracle active
    hdisk5 none None
    hdisk6 none None
    hdisk7 none None
    hdisk8 none None
    hdisk9 none None
    hdisk10 none None
    hdisk11 none None
    hdisk12 none None
    hdisk13 none None
    hdisk14 none None
    hdisk15 none None
    hdisk16 none None
The disks hdisk5-16 are ASM disks and there are no PVID’s present.
I also have the list of ASM disks by the command—
    ls –l /dev | grep oracle
    crw-rw---- 1 oracle dba 22, 6 May 12 00:02 asm_rd10_1a
    crw-rw---- 1 oracle dba 22, 10 Apr 21 07:27 asm_rd10_1b

    crw-rw---- 1 oracle dba 22, 15 May 09 13:54 asm_xbb2_rd5_1c
Now I am looking for a way to map these two lists with each other, and had no luck so far.
Does oracle provide this information somewhere in the OEM installation structure or is there a command in AIX which could give some way to map the ASM disks to the physical disks?
Any help on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance…
FYI: ASMLib driver is not present on the system.

The view you are talking about here gives the ASM DISK NAME (like DGRXBB_0001) and ASM DISK PATH (like /dev/asm_rd_10_1a) and I am already using it, but this is not what I asked in mt original post. If you read carefully, I want to establish a mapping between the ASM DISK PATH (like /dev/asm_rd_10_1a) and the AIX Physical disk (like /dev/hdisk5) and did not find any view giving this info. If you know of some views which could help establish this mapping or some AIX commands or files that could help do this using shell script, it is most welcome

  • Problems with RAC installation with Windows 2000 Advanced Server

    Hello,
I've two servers in cluster mode with W2K Advanced Server, and a RAID-5 array of 4 disks shared by both of them. My problem is that I've installed The Cluster Service of Windows in order to have an active/passive configuration of my servers, because I have a common directory structure that is accessed by the PC's of the LAN.
By another hand, I want to install Oracle Real Application Cluster to manage my Oracle database but after create the extended partition and the logical drives when I execute the file \preinstallation_rac\clustersetup\clustersetup.exe to create the cluster, when I select the option Create a cluster the following error message appears me:
"Any disk Oracle partition has been found. Stop this wizard, create an Oracle partition and try it
    again."
I'd like to know if it's possible to have the Service Cluster of Windows 2k and the Oracle clusterware?¿ Altough before begining the installation I've stopped my Cluster Service as documentation suggests. If somebody knows what it's happening to me I'd be really very grateful.
    Thanks in advance,
    Isabel

    Hello Joel,
I've already read all documentation provided by Oracle about Real Application Clusters
and I've not found anything to solve my problem. Certainly I want to use OCFS but when I
try to execute preinstall_rac\clustersetup.exe to install CFS the error appear and I can't
    continue with RAC installation.
Besides I've tried command "lsnodes -v" and got :
    Could not load CM.dll
    Could not initialize cluster
And when I've tried to run "clustercheck" I've got :
** Copy File: Create Directory failed - Error 183
    ** Directory = \\192.168.1.111\Cy$\Temp\opsm
    Created directory \\192.168.1.112\Cy$\Temp\opsm
Could not copy file to other nodes [error = 183]
I've read metalink Note 186130.1 Clustercheck Fails with Windows Error 183 and the only
    proof I haven't done is get the clustercheck.exe release1(9.0.1).
Any suggestion will be very appreciated. Thanks,
    Isabel

  • Can't create a repository with a local physical disk

    Hi,
I'm using Oracle VM Manager 3.0.3.
I created a non clustered server pool with one server. That server has 2 identical SATA 500GB internal drives and 1 eSATA 750GB drive in AHCI mode. The 750G eSATA drive is the primary boot drive and hosts the MBR with Windows 7. One of the 500GB SATA internal drive hosts Oracle VM Server. The other 500GB SATA drive has no partition and I want to use it as a local OVM repository. When I boot the server I can select to boot Windows 7 or Oracle VM Server with no issue.
After the OVM server boots, OVM Manager 3.0.3 can discover it along with 2 physical disks: the 500GB SATA internal drive (SATA_WDC_WD5000BEKT-_WD-WX41A11X1750) I want to use as a repository and the eSATA 750GB drive. OVM Manager reports these physical disks as SAN type with no file system.
When I create my local repository for the server pool, I select the physical disk SATA_WDC_WD5000BEKT-_WD-WX41A11X1750 and click the "Next" button. But the job always fails with the following details:

I don't understand why I always get the error message 'An ocfs2 filesystem already exists on /dev/mapper/SATA_WDC_WD5000BEKT-_WD-WX41A11X1750' since that disk is blank with no partition.
    Please help me.

  • Oracle 11gR2 RAC installation with DNS

    Dear Guru's,
I want to configure RAC on two node cluster with DNS(For SCAN) in my testing server.
    O.S: RHEL5.4(64 bit)
    Oracle Version: 11gR2(11.2.0.2)
Note: Am creating nodes in VMware ESXi server.
Just I want to know whether DNS should be configure in any one of those NODES or in separate machine.
    Bala :)

    Hi Bala,
I want to configure my Database with & without DNS. (Will try both installation in different servers)I think, you have already received a link on very good article about Oracle RAC installation without DNS and DHCP (I mean Jeffrey Hunter's article).
There is one more about Oracle RAC installation with DNS and DHCP (http://gjilevski.com/2011/10/05/build-two-node-oracle-rac-11gr2-11-2-0-3-with-gns-dns-dhcp-and-haip/).
And want to know how it forwards the client connection if a node fails.. Can anyone update the URL for this..There are a lot of information about it:

    Hi Andrey,
You need to reorganize whole tablespace, not only tables in order to reclaim the free space to the OS.
The prerequisite for online reorganization is:
    Oracle 9.2 database or higher.
The prerequisite for online conversion of the LONG-fields into LOB-fields:
    Oracle 10g database or higher.
Online conversion is supported for SAP kernel 7.00 or higher. For SAP kernel 6.40,
it is supported only in a restricted manner (see "Caution" in point III). Conversion is
not supported for SAP systems with a kernel lower than 6.40.
Check the note 646681 - Reorganizing tables with BRSPACE

  • How do I do this:  "This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk (such as your Mac OS X installation disc), and then use Disk Utility to repair this disk?"

"This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk (such as your Mac OS X installation disc), and then use Disk Utility to repair this disk."

Stick the disk in, reboot holding c.
Disk Utility is a menu option about the 2 or 3rd screen in the installer. (don't install OS X!)
Because your booted form the installer disk, you can repair the disk.
Quit and exit the installer and reboot.
If your drive is not repaired, make a note of all what it says, for Apple to use.
Reboot and get your files off to a external drive,
Take the note and your comptuer to Apple for a warranty/Apple care call, they will replace the drive.
