RAC on Windows2003 - SGA PROBLEM

I have a RAC Cluster ( 2 nodes) with Windows Server 2003 (64 - bit Itanium)and I have a problem if I set the SGA over 4GB (Metalink Note 294495.1). I need to know:
1. Is this a Windows or Oracle problem?
2. WhatÂ´s the real impact over my system (I have 8GB RAM)?
3. Is Oracle resolving this problem in futures releases)

Is the Windows Oracle service OracleService<SID> set to automatic ?
Is the registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\KEY_HOME_NAME\ORA_SID_AUTOSTART set to TRUE ?

Sun Fire V490 x 2 servers with Oracle RAC facing Split brain problem

Hi all,
I have Sun Fire V490 x 2 servers with Oracle RAC and they faced a Split brain problem. One of the node's database instance has gone down, The DBA claims it is due to network problem, but as such the networks are OK. We use the on board CE1 interface for Cluster interconnect and CE0 as the public interface.
Did anybody face this kind of a problem? Could this be a hardware/OS patch problem?
I had kept a continuous ping for 24 hours after this happened last time and the output shows no packet loss

In order to diagnose this properly, you'll need to provide too much detail and far too many log files for a generic discussion forum to handle.
Use your service contract and open a support case.
Because a cluster environment is involved you'll likely end up talking to the cluster support staff.
They can analyze hardware and software errors as well as review whether you configured the systems in a supportable fashion.
Be prepared to make a direct connection to each system and gather data using such as by using the Explorer tool. The technical support staff will tell you what they will actually need.

Windows, RAC and network card problems... ?

I've a problem! :)
Here are some info:
Node Hardware:
     Processor: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E7430 @2.13GHz (2 processors)
     Installed memory(RAM): 52.0 GB
     System type: 64-bit OS
     Windows edition: Windows server 2008 R2 Enterprise
Network cards (Shown by WIN):
     PublicLAN: HP NC373i Multifunction Gigabit Server Adapter
     PrivateLAN: HP NC373T PCle Multifunction Gig Server Adapter
     Offline: HP NC373T PCIe Multifunction Gig Server Adapter
Software:
     Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise (Very last updates from MS)
     Oracle RAC 11.2.0.2.0 (Clusterware, DB) – 2 nodes
Environment:
     AD network. Everything is MS based.
Problem description:
During RAC installation, company had only one network card (server network card, per node). Installation was successfully finished. RAC was/is in production. Has some problems, but noting for alarm.
This days, we get other network cards. (purpose: network redundancy).
RAC shutdown was clean.
Network card inserted to nodes by OS Admin.
Nodes was started up... and...
OS Admin disabled network card immediately after logon screen was available... but to late...
Windows changed network card order!!! PublicLAN was not at the first place when Cluster started (Network and sharing center -> change adapter settings -> Advanced (from menu) -> Advanced Settings -> Adapters and Bindings)!!! (I found in logs that MAC address changed at this point!)
Cluster started hardware reconfiguration... and... we could not stop CW till starting up finished... ! After stopping CW again, we set PublicLan at first place, and every win setting was as at the moment of installation.
Cluster was started again, DB, OEM too...
Everything is working. Client can connect to DB, applications work well... but...
Damage is done... now we have totally new IP situation inside... changes are saved to the DNS, too!!!
Before inserting network card IP settings (nslookup from any client) :
rac1 192.168.217.60
rac1-vip 192.168.217.62
rac2 192.168.217.61
rac2-vip 192.168.217.63
rac-scan 192.168.217.64
192.168.217.65
192.168.217.66
After this incident (nslookup from any client):
rac1 192.168.217.60
192.168.217.62
192.168.217.64
192.168.217.66

VIP and SCAN IP address are the same as before...
nslookup show as that rac1,rac2,rac-scan change IP addresses in round-robin scenario!!!
We stopped RAC couple of time and OS Admin cleared DNS records (both zone)... but every start of cluster make changes again in DNS.
Other "side-effects":
Some cluster commands, invoked from CMD, fire errors (lsnodes, cluvfy comp nodecon -n rac1,rac2).
Configuration files seem to be correct (listeners, scan, scan_listeners, etc). srvctl and crsctl command are working without errors. oifcfg too.
Logs are full of errors (like: ASM could not be reached... no listener)
Listener(s) stop working sometime...
Relocation of resource are not possible.
Well, I mentioned the most important things... other alerts and errors in logs are present, but everything is connected with this issue, I think...
As I said: RAC working. Clusterware, DB, OEM, connections, applications, backup... everything look good... but we have a problem!!!
Any ideas, any suggestion, any link, any advice, anything are welcome!

Metalink haven't any document about this... I've found a lot of examples for changing IP's, interfaces, interconnection... but noting about fixing problem!

I'm having the same issue. My desktop pc keeps dropping the connection to my network (airport extreme router) while the rest of my devices (macbook pro, xbox, mac mini) still stay connected. The pc never had this issue prior to installing Windows 7 so im guessing there must be something with the Windows 7 OS.

Oracle RAC 10.1 + CSS problem

I have a problem with a RAC configuration.
I have 2 nodes : rac1 and rac2.
And since one month, i had this error message 3 times : ERROR: clssnmDiskPingMonitorThread: voting device access hanging (57010 miliseconds)
And then, CSS reboot my second node.
Have you ever seen that problem?

Hi Davy,
are you using a cluster file system to manage the voting disks or are you using raw/block devices?
I found this note on metalink 294430.1 CSS Timeout Computation in Oracle Clusterware.
You can get a little bit more info in the note about the settings and time out's in different versions.
In 10.1.0.5 the IOT = MC - 3 seconds which by default is 57 sec. That is exactly the time your one node get evicted. Check you interconnect as well and make sure that there is no packets lost.

I am installing Oracle Database 11gR2 RAC system using 2 Virtual Machines (rac1 and rac2) on the top of VMPlayer 3.
I configure Network for rac1 and rac2 as following:
rac1 eth0 192.168.138.35 eth1 192.168.137.35
rac2 eth0 192.168.138.36 eth1 192.168.137.36
[root@rac2 \]# ping rac1
output: 64 bytes from rac1.localdomain (127.0.0.1) ... ...
[root@rac1 \]# ping rac2
Error: Ping rac2.localdomain... ... Destination Host Unreachable.
My questions are:
First, Why rac1 cannot reach rac2 while rac2 can reach rac1 ?
Second, How to have rac1 reach rac2 ?

The public IP for eth0 and private IP for eth1 in the file "/etc/hosts" are as follows:
rac1 eth0 192.168.138.35 eth1 192.168.137.35

In rac1, I have added 2 entries in /etc/hosts as following:
#VIP for eth0
192.168.138.130 rac1-vip.localdomain rac1-genetic-vip
192.168.138.131 rac2-vip.localdomain rac2-cellar-vip
Then I execute the command: [root@rac1 /]# ping rac2
Output:
PING rac2.localdomain (192.168.138.36) 56(84) bytes of data
From rac1.localdomain (192.168.138.35) icmp_seq=1
Destination Host Unreachable
In rac2, I try to add the above 2 entries in /etc/hosts. But cannot save it. The following error message comes up:
"E45: readonly option is set (add ! to override)".
My questions are:
First, do I need to add VIP in the file "/etc/hosts" for both rac1 and rac2 ?
Second, why rac1 still cannot reach rac2 after add VIP in /etc/hosts for rac1 ?
Third, why the file "/etc/hosts" in rac2 is read-only ? How to change it to be editable ?

i have three server with same subnet mask. save os and db versiong windows server 2003 and 10g on all servers.

I am not sure, what you are exactly looking for, since the hosts file itself has the information on how to add new hosts/ipaddress to the file, which is something like:
<Ip_address> <Hostname>
192.168.0.29 maindb
If you are look for rac configuration, apart from the physical IP Addresses, you would be needing two others - which are 1) Private IP Address - and 2) VIPA, which needs to be configured in the same hosts file on all the participating nodes.

3.2u2 10g RAC "rac_server_proxy-rs" creating problems

While i am trying to create the resource "rac_server_proxy-rs", i am getting the bellow error.
clrs: node1.cluster.com:global - Validation failed. Hosting member node1 of instance db1 does not match with hostname node1.cluster.com.
I am not understanding, how to solve this issue ?. I am have specified the instance name and node name correctly.
In the SUN documentation, i found the solution "This error occurs during resource creation. Specify the same node the particular ORACLE_SID, that is configured for it with CRS. This node value can be found by inspecting the HOSTING_MEMBERS CRS attribute for this RAC instance".
So, i have checked the "HOSTING_MEMBERS" CRS attribute of the RAC DB "db1" instance, the HOSTING_MEMBERS pointing to the node name "*node1*" (without FQDN).
Even if i try like bellow, it tells different story with FQDN and without FQDN.
#clrs set -v -p ORACLE_SID{*node1.cluster.com*}=*db1* -p ORACLE_SID{*node2.cluster.com*}=*db2* rac_server_proxy-rs

Problem when I extend an oracle rac 10g on new node

Hi everyone
I need to extend an oracle RAC but i have problems when I add a new node. My actual enviroment is:
1) Oracle Grid Infraestructure 11gR2 - 11.2.0.3 (Upgraded from Clusterware 10gR2 + ASM 10gR2)
2) Oracle Rac Database - 10.2.0.5
(all on one only node)
The first problem was when I executed the script "root.sh" on the new node because this script called the old Clusterware home (/oracle/product/10.2.0/crshome). I edited the file and I changed this path for /oracle/gridbase/product/11.2.0/gridhome (current home for GI). Finally, I execute the script.
Now, I tried to extend the rac through of DBCA, but when, I choose the new node and I clic on "next" button then appears the following error:
"The nodes "[rstatbdbpm02]" are not part of the cluster. Make sure clusterware is active on these nodes before proceeding"
However, when I execute the "crsctl" command to view the status of cluster the result is correct:

Hi,
Please check dbca trace logs for further checks, it will give an idea what command is being run to check status of cluster.
Generally first checks should be on inventory for rdbms home, grid home and making sure no ORACLE related parameter is set in environment.

Problem in inserting data into MySQL table

I have a table with just two fields FIRSTNAME and SECONDNAME in MySQL. I am accepting the First Name and Second Name in two text fields and then trying to insert them into the MySQL table. I have set the concurrency of the rowset to CONCUR_UPDATABLE and am using the code clip for Database row insert with the appropriate changes. When I run the application it doesnt give me any errors but the data is also not inserted in the table. Can someone pls help me out.

I am able tp ping all my IP's from both the nodes,with host name &alias specified in the host file.

SAN reboot for oracle DB at ASM in linux RAC

we use 10.2.0.4 database in ASM at oracle RAC in red hat 5 linux.
we use 3 directoey ( asm, crs, and database)
I got notes that SAN box (support SAM in database) will be reboot.
Under this condition, what do i need to do? shutdown instance? database? crs? or asm instance?

Usually, the only effort required is simply hitting the reset/power on button - as the o/s will boot, CRS will start and it will in turn bring up the s/w stack. No manual intervention required. (unless you on purpose configured it differently)
Based on Billy suggestion, can I use srvctl stop nodeapps -n all and #ORA_CRS_HOME/bin/crsctl stop crsNo - my suggestion is that before the SAN maintenance window period start, you do a "+shutdown -h now+" on all cluster nodes to halt/powerdown each and every RAC server.
And after the SAN maintenance period is over, and the SAN available again, ssh into the LoM (Lights Out Management) console of each server and do a "+start SYS+" (or equivalent) to powerup the server.
In other words, with the SAN down/busy rebooting/undergoing maintenance, I would not want to have my RAC servers up and running as there is no storage layer to run them on. IMO, it is a lot safer to have these servers powered down to during such a maintenance period.
PS. I have even had the odd case that during SAN maintenance power cables being pulled, Interconnect switches accidentally reset and so on - or you could have some bright spark also shutting down the aircon with the SAN and your RAC servers suffering heat problems and potential damage while running. So my question is - why should I take the risk of keeping my RAC servers up when the storage layer is not there and the cluster is broken and useless? Surely it makes a lot more sense to power down those servers too and then only power them on again when the maintenance period is over and the SAN (and data centre) is in a proper running state again.

Query/Looping Problem

I have a database table with columns as follows.

totalScore
I do my query as follows:
SELECT *
FROM races
WHERE racerID = URLVar
I want so loop through the query results to list the points
by race... my problem is that they are all in one record...
I tried these:
<cfloop index="i" from="1" to ="30">
<p>#races.race#i##</p>
</cfloop>
I also tried using square brackets around i at the end of
races.race...
How can i reverence a field name using i?

Just from what you have listed, this seems to be a bad data
model design. What happens if you add another race? You would have
to add another column to your table. You might consider having a
racer table, with all of the attributes associated with a racer, a
race table with all of the attributes associated with a race, then
an "associative entity" (link table) to link race with racer. This
race_racer table would have the ID for the racer, and the ID for a
given race, and the points for that race and racer so that you
could find race info for any particular racer of race by joining
these tables. Then it would be a snap to list the points by race or
racer using SQL and not having to use outside loops, etc. In other
words, normalize your data.

RAC node Hung

Hi Friends,
Server info:
Windows 2003 server
Oracle 10.2.0.5, 2 Node RAC
We are having problem Hung Node 2 server due to Blue dump error. But in Oracle we are not getting any error on CRS & alertlogs. After restarted the server problem solved. How can we identify what could be the reason of server hang. We are not getting any error in Operating System side also. Is there any way to identify the problem of server hang after restarted server?

Problem in rotating and moving image at the same time

the problem is that im making a car game(2D) in which u have upper view of car.
i have make the car rotate bt problem is that i canot move it forward or backward correctly
.wen i move it forward or backward i goes wrong...
nd another problem is that i cannot both rotate and move the car at same time
example if i press both up nd right arrow keys i doesnt move nd rotate..
nd also plz tell me the accelerate nd reverse method so i can speedup my car like other car games

the only error that occurs when u write java RaceGame is because of the car image which compiler doesnt found and throughs exception if u place any image in ur bin folder adn name it car.jpg it wont generate error
