RAC, openfiler, openvpn

Hi all,
I'm new user in openfiler&RAC environment, I'm going to install openfiler ,oracle RAC and openvpn in one environment, every some one familiar like this work?, is openvpn work probably with oracle RAC (is openvpn certified in oracle certification matrix )?.
Thaks

Hi,
I used VPN networks in large networks, openvpn it's best VPN solution.
-RAC Nodes contains Linux redhat RHEL 5 and openvpn.
-openfiler Servers contain openvpn.
in current time,
openfiler servers: I installed openfiler, and going to install openvpn in openfiler, How to do install openvpn?
RAC Nodes: install RHEL 5 ,Oracle RAC 10.2, openvpn. then configure RAC Nodes , How to do that? Now I understand.
You will implement three different technologies that involves three different types of skill.
Storage (OPENFILER)
Database/Cluster (Oracle/Linux)
Network (OPENVPN)
In this forum I believe that we can help with problems (OS, Storage and Network) related to the installation of Oracle, Oracle or related problem.
If somebody here has worked with this technology and can help you will be great, but I believe you can find the answers in these forums that are specific technologies.
So my recommendation is:
You first solve the problem or setup Openvpn/OpenFile of your envoriment in related forums.
When the environment is configured correctly and you are installing Oracle RAC we can help you on this forum.

  • Test RAC setup - Question on Openfiler

    Hello All:
Followed this doc to set up two node rac http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/hunter_rac10gr2_iscsi.html
I have successfully installed Linux on two nodes linux1 and linux2 per doc above.
I have successfully installed openfiler on the third node, powered by rpath linux per doc above.
As per the document above and next step, i need to configure iSCSI volumes using openfiler. The document talks about using the browser thru which Openfiler administration is performed.
The issue i am facing is, i cannot get the browser installed on openfiler. How do i do this?
This node is not connected to the internet.
I have downloaded the firefox mozilla on a usb stick, how do i access the usb flashdrive on the openfiler and install the browser?
Is there a gui for openfiler?
If anybody has any experiences with this, i appreciate if they can share.
    Thanks a ton
    San~

Openfiler should be running a web server. So you should be able to access if from a browser on other machines to which it is connected
Possibly the easiest way to go.

NB: RAC forum would usually get better support.

  • Oracle Rac 11g R2 and Openfiler

    i created 3 disks ,Disk1,Disk2 and Disk3 but i gave the size to DISK2 and DISK3 40GB
and DISK 5GB plz can anyone guide me by using OPENFILER how much SIZE(GB) i can use for each DISK?

    hi all.
is there any other way to work like openfiler i want to create voting disks for my rac,i used openfiler for that,
plz can anyone tell me is there any good way to create large disks for rac datas?

  • RAC Storage Options ( Openfiler or Wasabi )

    Hi RAC gurus..
I need your advice regarding storage options for our RAC development environment.
Since it is a development environment so management is reluctant to invest in SAN , Our production is a 2 node RAC on windows 2003 server mounted on Dell SAN.
We have two spare servers available with Intel Xeon processors and SAS disks on them. SAN is out of question here and since we are on windows we cannot use NAS.
I was reviewing the storage options and came across to Openfiler and Wasabi Storage Builder softwares which can transform your server ( spare ones ) into virtual SANs for shared storage purposes.
I want to know if its reliable, scalable and whether it can be put to production one day or not? Which one is better Openfiler or Wasabi ?

whether it can be put to production one day or not?
you need to ask this to oracle support to get a correct answer ; moreover for a production system, I will only use certified hardware .

  • RAC with openfiler ?

Does anybody install a RAC using openfiler (Openfiler is a Storage Management Operating System) on Linux ?
    http://www.openfiler.com/
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/hunter_rac10gr2_iscsi.html

First NIC is for private interconnect and second is for Public/VIP IPs.

  • Should I run losetup when using openfiler for RAC ?

    Grid version : 11.2.0.3
Guest OS           : Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.3
    Host OS           : Windows 7 (64-bit )
    Hypervisor : Virtual Box 4.2.6
I am planning to set up a 2-node RAC using VirtualBox.
We are going to use OpenFiler as the storage appliance. So, totally 3 VMs (2 RAC Nodes + 1 OpenFiler VM)
Once the LUNs are available , should we be running losetup command ?
    losetup /dev/loop1 /disk1as mentioned in
    Re: iscsi or SAN
Isn't partition creation using fdisk enough ?
If we use shared LUNs created from withing VirtualBox , should we be running losetup ?

There is insufficient information to provide you with an answer. You are going to need to test your proposed configuration. Hopefully this is just a proof-of-concept or test environment. You have to take leave of all rational thinking to try to use this in a production environment.
You could have probably tested it (installed/tore down/resinstalled) many times over while waiting for an answer.

Hello guys finally i find mistake i was doing
while configuring Public Ip for the nodes i was not giving Default Gateway .I was assuming as all these machine is in same network with same Ip range so they would not be needing Gateway but here my assumption mismatch with oracle well finally happy to see 11G r2 with GNS running on my personal laptop.
    cheers

  • 10G RAC ON 11.2 CLUSTERWARE

    Hi,
i m trying to make ORACLE RAC 10gr2 on two nodes with openfiler , with ocfs and asm.but i didn't have clusterware 10.2 software to install because oracle has removed software to download, that's why i install clusterware 11.2 . after installation clusterware 11.2 i check status and output is below on both nodes.
    [oracle@linux2 bin]$ ./crsctl check crs
CRS-4638: Oracle High Availability Services is online
CRS-4537: Cluster Ready Services is online
CRS-4529: Cluster Synchronization Services is online
    CRS-4533: Event Manager is online
but when i try to install oracle 10gr2 software and when i reach to configure asm disks it says "in order to use AUTOMATIC STORAGE MANAGEMENT the
oracle cluster synchronization service (CSS) must be up and running. and says to run "/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/bin/ localconfig reset* as root user..
i run it and it give no error.. i think service is up, you please tell me why i can't configure asm ? please guide.. thanks

As ASM is integrated with GI in 11gR2 you need to configure ASM instance with 11gr2 rather than 10gR2. Create all required ASM diskgroups and start the ASM instance with 11gR2 GI and then install the 10gR2 binaries and created the database.

  • Oracle Linux 6.2 with RAC 11g cluster install fails on root.sh ioctl

I have 2 HP Servers I'm trying to install a cluster to.
I've tried Oracle Linux 6.2 and 6.3 with the same error on both nodes when running the root.sh script.
I have tried the permissions, run-levels, etc that I have found in the forum and nothing has worked except the deconfigure works great. /u01/app/11.2.0/grid/crs/install/rootcrs.pl -deconfig -force
    root.sh Errors:
    Adding daemon to inittab
CRS-4124: Oracle High Availability Services startup failed.
CRS-4000: Command Start failed, or completed with errors.
ohasd failed to start: Inappropriate ioctl for device
ohasd failed to start at /u01/app/11.2.0/grid/crs/install/rootcrs.pl line 443.
I can't see whats wrong, I did use ASM to configure iSCSI disks from a storage device which appeared to work correctly:
    # oracleasm listdisks
    VOL1
    VOL2
    VOL3
    VOL5
    # ls /dev/oracleasm/disks/
    VOL1 VOL2 VOL3 VOL5
When I created the disks with ASM I used multipath successfuly:
    # oracleasm createdisk VOL1 /dev/mapper/23535333762373932
The other node can see the disks just fine with oracleasm listdisks
    I chose 3 disks for the OCR - VOL1-3
There was one forum work around to edit the $GRID_HOME/crs/install/s_crsconfig_lib.pm which I did no Oracle Linux 6.3 to no avail. I also tried using NFS mounted volumes for the OCR drives but got the same error.
    Using the install: linux.x64_11gR2_grid

oracleasm (aka asmlib) may not be supported on RHEL(OEL) 6.x. You do NOT need asmlib and it's days are numbered.
upon review of this document, even though it was for 10g, it still appears to be relevant

    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/install.111/b28263/storage.htm#CDEBFDEH
also before you do what is suggested on the url posted by Mufalani,
it seems that you should do the following:
Check existence of udev raw mapping rule file /etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rules
On RH/EL5, udev raw mapping rule file /etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rules should exist by default as part of the util-linux package, for example:
    # ls /etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rules
/etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rulesCreate a custom udev raw mapping rule file, /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules say, for example:
    # touch /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules3b. Add udev raw binding rules to /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules file
Add the udev raw binding rules to the /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules file, for example:
    # cat /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules
    # Raw bind to Oracle Clusterware devices
    ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sd*", PROGRAM=="/sbin/scsi_id", RESULT=="360a98000686f6959684a453333524174", RUN+="/bin/raw /dev/raw/raw1 %N"
ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sd*", PROGRAM=="/sbin/scsi_id", RESULT=="360a98000686f6959684a453333524179", RUN+="/bin/raw /dev/raw/raw2 %N"If migrating to RHEL5/OEL5 from an earlier Linux version that relied on /etc/sysconfig/rawdevices file for persistent raw device bindings, the following script can be used as a basis for generating your RHEL5/OEL5 udev rules. Note, the script does not factor device name persistency.
    #!/bin/bash
    grep -v "^ *#" /etc/sysconfig/rawdevices | grep -v "^$" | while read dev major minor ; do
    if [ -z "$minor" ]; then
    echo "ACTION==\"add\", KERNEL==\"${major##/dev/}\", RUN+=\"/bin/raw $dev %N\""
    else
    echo "ACTION==\"add\", ENV{MAJOR}==\"$major\", ENV{MINOR}==\"$minor\", RUN+=\"/bin/raw $dev %M %m\""
    fi

I'm trying to setup a 10g RAC Cluster following the guide by Jeff Hunter on http://www.idevelopment.info/
I have to admit, im no Linux admin, and have searched round the net for help with the following Issue.
I'm trying to set my iSCSI targets to have persistent mappings using udev rules
This is what I have done so far

Can anyone help me to get this up and running?

    Hi,
I'm facing the same issue.. If your issue is fixed..could you please let me know?
I'm trying to configure 11g RAC with OPenfiler and got stuck here.
    Regards,
    Kumar

  • Is Shared storage provided by VirtualBox better or as good as Openfiler ?

    Grid version : 11.2.0.3
    Guest OS           : Solaris 10 (64-bit )
    Host OS           : Windows 7 (64-bit )
    Hypervisor : Virtual Box 4.1.18
In the past , I have created 2-node RAC in virtual environment (11.2.0.2) in which the shared storage was hosted in OpenFiler.
Now that VirtualBox supports shared LUNs. I want to try it out. If VirtualBox's shared storage is as good as Openfiler , I would definitely go for VirtualBox as Openfiler requires a third VM (Linux) to be created just for hosting storage .
For pre-RAC testing, I created a VirtualBox VM and created a Stand alone DB in it. Below test is done in VirtualBox's LOCAL storage (I am yet to learn how to create Shared LUNs in Virtual Box )
I know that a datafile creation is not a definite test to determine I/O throughput. But i did a quick Test by creating a 6gb tablespace.
Is the duration of 2 minutes and 42 seconds acceptable for a 6gb datafile ?
    SQL> set timing on
    SQL> create tablespace MHDATA datafile '/u01/app/hldat1/oradata/hcmbuat/mhdata01.dbf' SIZE 6G AUTOEXTEND off ;
    Tablespace created.

    SQL> exit

    $ du -sh /u01/app/hldat1/oradata/hcmbuat/mhdata01.dbf

well once i experimented with Openfiler and built a 2-node 11.2 RAC on Oracle Linux 5 using iSCSI storage (3 VirtualBox VMs in total, all 3 on a desktop PC: Intel i7 2600K, 16GB memory)
CPU/memory wasnt a problem, but as all the 3 VMs were on a single HDD, performance was awful
didnt really run any benchmarks, but a compressed full database backup with RMAN for an empty database (<1 GB) took like 15 minutes...
2 VMs + VirtualBox shared disk on the same single HDD provided much better performance, still using this kind of setup for my sandbox RAC databases
    edit: 6 GB in 2'42" is about 37 MB/sec
with the above setup using Openfiler, it was nowhere near this
    edit2: made a little test
    host: Windows 7
    guest:2 x Oracle Linux 6.3, 11.2.0.3
    hypervisor is VirtualBox 4.2
PC is the same as above
2 virtual cores + 4GB memory for each VM
2 VMs + VirtualBox shared storage (single file) on a single HDD (Seagate Barracuda 3TB ST3000DM001)
created a 4 GB datafile (not enough space for 6 GB):
    {code}SQL> create tablespace test datafile '+DATA' size 4G;
    Tablespace created.

Now i dont know much about Openfiler, maybe i messed up something, but i think its quite good, so i wouldnt use a 3rd VM just for the storage.

  • Can I install RAC in my pc computer?

I am learning RAC, trying to install RAC on my PC computer.
Both computer are dell, same configuration, and each computer has two network cards.
I have another USB external hard disk, used for the storage, is that doable?
Now I will try to install linux + oracle 10g + 10g RAC, is that doable?
do I need other hardware or software?
    appreciated for any suggestions.
    Thanks.

The easiest would be to install the virtual software like Virtual Box(free and from Oracle) ad install RAC using it. If you want to physical machines, try to arrange a third machine whose disk you can use as a shared hard drive using a software called Openfiler( http://www.openfiler.com/) . This would be closest that you would be able to get to a production box. If you really want to spend money than you can buy an old shared storage from Ebay.

  • Errors in building the RAC

    hi all,
I am facing many issues installing the RAC 11g database with openfiler and filesystem ocfs2 and ASM
plz plz help me out from this issue i was struggling with this from couple of days
1)i have succesfully installed EL 5 on 2 nodes and openfiler in a node
and by the way i am using the hunter document as my guide installed the above mentioned as per the doc at http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/hunter_rac11gr1_iscsi.html
2)i have succesfully done the logical partitions of the openfiler external harddisk which even showed me the partitions as example
    Disk /dev/dm-2: 38.8 GB, 38822477824 bytes
    255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 4719 cylinders
    Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk /dev/dm-2 doesn't contain a valid partition table
    3) The issue is tht when i want to configure the iscsi volumes from the RAC node prior to that i must issue a command to discover them from my rac node with the command
iscsiadm -m discovery -t sendtargets -p openfiler1-priv(which should show me the volumes but it isnt)
4)And that when i do a service open-iscsi restart from openfiler system i am getting as
    [root@openfiler ~]# service open-iscsi restart
Stopping iSCSI initiator service: iscsiadm: can not connect to iSCSI daemon!
iscsiadm: exiting due to configuration error
    [  OK  ]
iscsiadm: can not connect to iSCSI daemon! [  OK  ]
iscsiadm: exiting due to configuration error
    [  OK  ]
I have clearly explained all the things i have done so plzzzzz help me out from this which i am struggling from couple of days
    waiting for an early reply

    Hi,
    UPDATE ---
I am using 3 DELL server's for RAC configuration.
In server 1, i am installing Openfiler 2.3
In Server 2 & 3, i am installing Oracle Enterprise Linux 4 update 4 for nodes.
    Server 1 : Dell Poweredge SC430 ( two SCSI HDD of 160 GB each ) with 2 NIC cards - eth0 & eth1
    Server 2 : Dell Poweredge 600sc ( three SCSI HDD of 70 GB each ) with 2 NIC cards - eth0 & eth1
    server 3 : Dell Poweredge SC430 ( two SCSI HDD of 160 GB each ) with 2 NIC cards - eth0 & eth1
For storage , i am using SCSI HDD in the server 1, no externel Storage.
I am going to use 10gR2.
Question 1:----- Does server 2 & 3 should have same Hardware configuration, chip model and so on..
    ( or )
Can Server 2 & 3 have different Hardware architecture, with different SCSI hardisk Sizes..
    regards,
    Charan
