RAC Oracle 10.2.0.1 - Turning off software raid.

Hello to everyone !
I have a RAC installed on Windows Server 2003 Oracle 10.2.0.1. with ASM option. I am running out of space and need to free some. My database is 230 GB but my storage space is about 500 GB. I have used all the space with my tablespace ( if i want to add file to a tablespace the message is "There isn't free space" so there is no space on the storage). Archive log is turned of too! And I am wondering why..? My database is about 230GB but there is no space. I have heard that there is some kind fo software raid 1 that Oracle made internal. But can anyone help me to turn it off and free more space for tablespaces.
Thanks,
Best Regards,
Stefan Pastrilov

Yes , ASM is 'some kind of RAID', if normal or even high redundancy is configured. You turn it off by setting redundancy to external. From a safety point of view, that makes only sense if you have external (hardware) mirrorring. See the ASM documentation.

  • Unix command to turn OFF Software Update

    I've browsed through the networksetup -help and the systemsetup -help files and can't find anything that would allow me to send a unix command that would turn automatic software update off? Anyone got any thoughts?

    Send:
    softwareupdate --schedule off
    and that is indeed a doubled hyphen in front of "schedule".
    The command is user specific, so you would have to turn it off for every user on the system. I don't know of a global way to turn it off for all users at once.

  • How to turn off software auto-open?

    I'm currently running the Aperture trial and whenever I plug in my iphone the software automatically opens. There must be a simple command to disable this - it's extremely annoying - I just can't seem to find it.
    Any help would be much appreciated
    Many thanks
    David

    I just don't like Apps launching automatically so I never use the feature.
    What I don't like is that when I'm working in Aperture and plug in my phone for a charge, it interrupts my work to try to import from the phone.

  • Adobe Bridge turning off Aero mode intermittently

    Hi there,
    I use CS4 extended. I use bridge for my Raw work. Sometimes (Approx 50%) when I open bridge from the taskbar I find that aero crashes and it changes to compatability mode. I can use the computer and Bridge fine. If I shut Bridge when finished and also exit it from the taskbar I find Aero returns. My video card is a Nvidia GTX260 running 2 monitors. I have the latest drivers for Win7 Ult 64bit, Latest Nvidia drivers and all patches applied.
    I initially thought it was Win7 so a MS moderator in one one their forums assisted me but to no avail. In the end they suggested to try the Adobe forums.
    A thread in the photoshop forums suggested turning off Software rendering in the Bridge Preferences although that person was using an ATI card and drivers. I did this and it seemed ok for a day. However, the dreaded problem has returned with software rendering enabled so it seems that doesn't address the issue. It seems to me that if I have to turn on software rendering I would lose performance. My understanding is that by doing the rendering via hardware it is a lot quicker. Is this correct? Surely there must be a problem with Bridge somewhere if this problem occurs with both Nvidia and ATI drivers? Is this a simplistic view? Any assistance in resolving this is appreciated.

    G'day Curt,
    I've re-read my original post after Adobe2418s query re the size of the system. I made one small typo which gives the wrong impression.. The new disk information is below
    C: 128GB A-Ram Pro Series SSD for Programs
    D: 4 x 1 Tb Samsung HDs in Raid 1 + 0  1.81 Tb size for Data
    O: 59.6GB A-Ram Pro Series SSD for Win7 and Adobe Swapfiles
    The Windows swap file and the Adobe scratch disk have exclusive use of Drive O: (The 59.6GB A-Ram Pro Series SSD). The Win swap file is system managed on that drive. The Adobe Scratch disk is also set to the Drive O: SSD. The performance details of the 2 SSDs are as follows
    A-RAM SSD PRO series 128GB 2.5" MLC SSD
    * max speed up to 240MB/s read 140MB/s write
    A-RAM SSD ULTRA series 64GB 2.5" MLC SSD
    * max speed up to 260MB/s read 160MB/s write
    I have benchmarked the drives using a disk benchmarking tool available from http://www.attotech.com/products/product.php?scat=20&sku=Disk_Benchmark
    I have attached the results of the 4 drives performance below. Sorry about the screen grabs.
    The motherboard has a dedicated hardware controller for the Raid. My understanding is that this places no demand on the system at all. The 4 disks are presented as a single drive to the operating system which in my case sees the 4Tb of disks as a single 1.81Tb drive. The raid 10 as I say writes to 2 drives and then mirrors those 2 drives onto the remaining 2 drives. 2 copies of the information therefore exist. Also, using 2 drives together increases the disk throughput. Thus raid 10 gives me performance and backup. I've been bitten in the past and lost data due to individual drives failing. The network drive also consists of 4 x 1Tb drives but they are in a raid 5 configuration. This means that if an individual drive fails I can rebuild the data from the remaining 3 disks in the raid.
    So, this is why I don't think the machine is underpowered in the hard drive system. I also run the freeagent drive to do incremental backups at 10pm everyday. The Network drive backs up every file as it changes also. This may seem overkill but I do have important photos on the system that cannot be lost. I also once a week connect a separate 1Tb drive to the system and back up the raid. This I use for offsite storage in case the machine is stolen or the house is burnt down.
    Regarding the 3gb panaramas, I would think that if I do run out of memory the system would either warn me, freeze or crash. None of this occurs. As I say, the problem occurs when opening bridge and before data files are opened.
    I really appreciate your assistance in this.
    Cheers

  • Turning OFF direct source (guitar) and hearing just plug in? How to?

    In Nuendo I think you just hit the monitor button or in my case open Mackie control panel and turn down the volume (if loaded) and then all I hear is the plug in and guitar sim and
    NO actual sound.
    Looking to do the same in Logic.
    Right now I hear both processed and non-processed.
    Thanks!

    Two possible monitoring sources:
    1) Output from Logic--something routed to your audio interface from Logic (track/channel, aux, bus)
    2) Direct monitoring through your audio interface
    You need to turn one of them off to avoid doubling/phasing.
    If you're happy monitoring the dry signal, just turn off "Software Monitoring" in the Logic Audio/Driver prefs. Or mute any objects assigned to that input. That'll kill #1.
    If you need to monitor through Logic to hear the processing, you'll need to disable direct monitoring (#2), which will be controlled from outside Logic--either via software, or directly on your hardware.

  • How to turn off those preexisting tables, SPs, etc. in Oracle XE?

    Hi,
    I am new for Oracle XE in SQL Developer?
    How to turn off those preexisting tables, SPs, etc. in Oracle XE based on
    SQL Developer? It is annoying to have so many preexisting tables, SPs, etc there.
    Thanks,

    One solution is to take a screen shot of the photo. That should make it last in line.
    Another solution. Make a new album. Transfer the photos to the new album. Then change the photo order, by tapping select, hold your finger on the photo, move it, tap done.

  • Turn off display on sql*plus and increase memory for oracle?

    I want to turn off the output display on SQL*PLUS window and SPOOL the output to a file since the result is very big. i tried to SET TERM OFF but it doesn't work. Anybody knows what's the problem? or is there some other commands to use? My oracle is 9i. thx!!! And anybody knows how to increase the memory usage size for Oracle's jrew.exe? it's too slow when i try to retrieve some big size data from oracle.

    I just answered this question on the OTN -> General forum. You could try the SQL*Plus startup switch -s to startup SQL*Plus in silent mode, eg:
    C:\SQLPLUS -S

  • Oracle XDB Guys... Can I turn off network authentication for DBUri request?

    Hi,
    Can someone tell me how I can turn off the network authentication the DBUriServlet pops up when I make a DBUri request like
    http://server1:8080/oradb/SCOTT/EMP/ROW[EMPNO=1]/ENAME/text()
    I have found the documentation on 'DBUri Security' (XML Database Developers Guide(March2002) - Chapter 12 pg 37) that explains how I can alter the xdbconfig.xml file in order to restrict assess to a specific role... but not any documentation that tells me how to surpress the network authentication altogether.
    Thanks
    Shaun

    Try logging in as System and issuing the following command
    alter user anonymous identifed by anonymous account unlockThen ensure that anonymous has appropriate permissions on the required tables. Note we do not recommend unlocking anonymous for a production instance....
    Better to have some kind of front end application that logs in to the database in a secure manner..

  • How to turn off numjoin and/or numgroup attributes in basic_lexer

    My user has some digits embedded in subject line, such as "PQR 17234,34394,83343". Oracle interMedia Text is treating them as a big number, instead of three different words. How can I turn off the default numgroup and/or numjoin in the basic_lexer? I created my preference like this:
    begin
    ctx_ddl.create_preference('irm_ctx_lexer','BASIC_LEXER');
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute('irm_ctx_lexer','printjoins','-');
    end;
    Thanks in advance for your help.
    Bin

    It likely is not responsible for poor battery performance, and you cannot simply remove it; however, you can disable any accounts that you have configured with it if you'd care to do so. This can be done in the "Mail, Contacts & Calendars" section of the system preferences.

  • How do I turn off percent symbol in JFormattedTextField

    I am using a custom JFormattedTextField field, that has methods to add masks which apply formatting and add suffix and prefixes.
    It allows the user to see the data in display mode (formatted) or raw (unedited mode)
    Just found a problem though with our display mode when I try and add a suffix of a % symbol after the text.
    It turns out that JFormattedTextField does magic when it sees a %.
    It assumes I want to multiply the data by 100, which I do not. (the data is already stored in terms of percent.)
    I found an ugly hack to solve my problem, which is:
      DecimalFormat displayFormat = new DecimalFormat();
      DecimalFormatSymbols dfs = displayFormat.getDecimalFormatSymbols();
      dfs.setPercent('~'); // set to a symbol we will never use
      displayFormat.setDecimalFormatSymbols(dfs);
      this.setFormatterFactory(new DefaultFormatterFactory(new NumberFormatter(displayFormat)));
      // then later we apply our mask
      // used to do this
      // displayFormat.applyPattern(myDisplayFormat);
      // now have to do this so it does not overwrite our percent symbol
      this.displayFormat.applyLocalizedPattern(myDisplayFormat);It seems like there should be an easier way to accomplish this.
    What I was really hoping I could do, is "turn off" the percent substitution functionality.
    i.e. something like displayFormat.disablePercentFormatting(true);
    but at the moment, messing with localised symbols seems like the only way to hack it.
    Anyone have any thoughts? I just want DecimalFormat not to treat a % as a special symbol.
    note:
    Changing the data itself (dividing it by 100) is not an option as the data is entered elsewhere and it would screw up the raw view of the data too.
    Changing the underlying framework (of how we use our display / edit fields and masks etc) is not an option
    as there are hundreds of screens and objects using this framework already with no problems (they dont have a % in their mask though)
    I look forward to bright ideas.
    Cheers,
    - ding

    This behavior is documented in the API of DecimalFormat. If you don't want the special character to be interpreted, you need to quote it:
    Many characters in a pattern are taken literally; they are matched during parsing and output unchanged during formatting. Special characters, on the other hand, stand for other characters, strings, or classes of characters. They must be quoted, unless noted otherwise, if they are to appear in the prefix or suffix as literals. and
    '      Prefix or suffix      No      Used to quote special characters in a prefix or suffix, for example, "'#'#" formats 123 to "#123". To create a single quote itself, use two in a row: "# o''clock". see also: http://download.oracle.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/text/DecimalFormat.html

    Simply ensure that the path in the global variable is valid.
    It could be that you have a race condition and the global is read before a valid value gets written to it from elsewhere. Can you show us some code?
