RAC Pre-requisite Problem
I would like to set up a RAC environment between 2 different sites. They are physically seperated in 2 different district. The ISP of machine A used is different from the ISP of machine B used. Do they need to be the same ISP in order to be RAC? if yes, why?
Any solution for this? Thanks.
If you can implement a cluster solution over the distance then just 2 machines could do the job. As I had never afford a HP box with OpenVMS - cannot comment.
As these two machines are going to be using THE SAME STORAGE, where will it be located and how will it communicate - IE Fibre Channel?
IMO use a cluster at site A with a Standby DB at site B or Multimaster replicated DB between site A & B. You do say words to the effect that you want all 3 hosts to be doing work.
If the work at 'B' is just to run reports then a 'standby' DB will do. If You need to have clients connecting and updating data - use replicated.
Have one site produce odd sequence numbers and the other even numbers and use them as your primary keys.
Maybe you should consult you local Oracle Rep. Note: A DB in 'standby' waiting for a disaster still has to have it's own license (even though the primary is unavailable during disaster). So if you need to buy another license, get your money's worth and see what Oracle support reccommend.

Is Unix Cluster is Pre-requisite for RAC
Hi ,
Can anyone please clarify whether for the setup of RAC , does the Unix need to be in clusters?. Is it the pre-requisite for rac installing.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
HussainHi Hussain,
No, you don't need another OS cluster, only RAC, but you can use another clusterware with RAC (eg. SUN Cluster and others).
I recommend to you read http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/rac.102/b28759/toc.htm

Hi Guys,
For Typical OR Advanced Grid Installation (GUI), all pre-requisites are failing on both nodes, like memory, swap, node reachability, groups, user & lot more.....
But when I try to check Pre-requisite from command line, everything seems to be ok.

Pre requisites and steps for BI content installation.
Hi ,
We need to install Complete BI content in our production system , I am aware of the steps to be exeuted in SPRO but wanted to know the complete procedure step by step .
1) what are the pre requisites and checks before and after doing activation in SPRO .
2) If we already have some BI content installed and now we do complete reinstallation, will that create any issue .
3)Can we do activation directly in Production ?
Thanks,
Neetika.Hello Neethika, for your second question
2) If we already have some BI content installed and now we do complete reinstallation, will that create any issue
If the object which you are going to install is already active and if it is customised, and if you go for reinstallation, new standard object will reinstall the already customised existing oblect. However, if you select the check box MATCH (X) or COPY and do the installation, object will be activated with retainging customisation. so there will be no need to customise it again.
It is always recommended to go for manual collection of objects rather then automatic collection, because there might be wierd chances that all the objects might not get activated and this will cause a problem while you move the same from DEV to PRODUCTION.
feel free write if any further clarication need

AutoCreate Final Assembly Orders - Pre-requisite setup details needed
Hi ,
I am a technical person and bit new to WIP module but to my understanding when AutoCreate Final Assembly Orders program runs, it creates a WO and also Requisition.
I was doing few test and found that for some sales order it is creating WO but not requisition i.e. I don't see Requisition Import being called by AutoCreate Final Assembly Orders program.
Can you please provide me what is the setup or pre-requisite for the AutoCreate Final Assembly Orders program to generate Requisition?
Thanks,

[SOLVED]
There seems to be an issue with partitioning a swap partition as "swap" (wtf?) when using dm-crypt/Swap encryption. This is odd to me since reportedly systemd processes crypttab before fstab, but maybe it looks at the drives first before looking at either table file and then assumes all swaps are not encrypted and just mounts the standard unencrypted swap essentially reserving the partition so that dm-crypt can't access it - would be nice if systemd didn't do that, maybe not logically possible? Or, time for a new partition type, encrypted-swap? Anyway, I digress and notice that now my encrypted swap works as expected but still shows a partition type of "unknown"which feels like a hack.
So the solution:
sudo cryptsetup luksDump /dev/sdaX
Then follow the steps from the "dm-crypt/Swap encryption" wiki. Aside from long term solutions maybe this could be added to that wiki article?
thanks!
b1k
Had more time to play with this. The "cryptsetup" command isn't necissary. While this effectively "fixed" my swap partition that was partitioned as a "swap" partition - all that one needs to do is partition their swap as anything BUT swap. So maybe a quick blurb mentioning that in the "dm-crypt/Swap encryption" wiki article will save another noob a couple hours. It is sorta mentioned in the "Swap (Activation by systemd)" wiki article but it's hard to understand what the author was trying to convey (after re-reading I'm still not sure what problem the author is solving exactly). -
FI Substitutions with Pre requisites
Hi Experts,
I want to mention as a pre requisite that my substitution exit should work for a given Range of company Codes (Bseg-Bukrs)
Do i need to create a set directory or what are the steps involved?
Please tell me.
Thanks
DanyYou can create FI substitutions using the transaction GGB1.
In this transaction - You will find a tree control where you will implement the substitution rules. Once you have identified the area ( say for example I need to do a substitution at Item level of Cost Accounting) the you create your substitution rules under it,.
When you are creating a Substitution rule - It will show you the list of Data/Structures available to you and
1. Prerequisite Conditions - Here you specify the filetr conditions for the logic - Say you want this rule to be appliacle for Company Code = CC01 only.
2. Substitution Rule - It can be a directly value change, or a piece of code.
Hope it helps.

Failing PATH pre-requisite check installing 11g client
Greetings -
I'm trying to install the 32bit oracle 11g database client on Win 7 Professional x64. I'm stuck with this error when the installer gets to the "Perform Prerequisite Checks" step:
Environment variable: "PATH" - This test checks whether the length of the environment variable "PATH" does not exceed the recommended length.
Details:
- PRVF-3919 : Failed to retrieve value of environment variable "PATH"
- Cause: Environment variable value could not be determined.
- Action: Check user equivalence and whether the user has administrative privileges on the node.
Google tells me this might be related to an excessive PATH environment variable length, so I made multiple repetitions of "clean some crap out and try to install again" with no effect. Currently it is set to:
C:\>path
PATH=C:\Windows\system32;C:\Windows;
And the installer still fails.
I've tried explicitly running the installer via "Run as Administrator" and as a regular user (who is in the Administrators group). No change either way.
Someone on my team suggested making sure the installation target path has no spaces in it. I'm keeping the default path suggested by the installer, which is
D:\app\ladams\product\11.2.0\client_1
where ladams is my Windows user name. I did some experimentation here, changing the install path to things like "D:\oracle" and that hasn't resolved the issue.
Interestingly, if I open the installer log, I can find this line in it near the top:
INFO: PATH has :==>C:\Users\ladams\AppData\Local\Temp\OraInstall2013-01-28_02-19-03PM\jdk\jre\bin;C:\Windows\system32;C:\Windows;C:\Windows\system32;C:\Windows;;;.
So it can apparently read the path at some point before the pre-requisite check, although it seems to be doubling up the contents for some reason...
Later on in the log file, I see this:
INFO: -----------------------------------------------
INFO: *********************************************
INFO: Environment variable: "PATH": This test checks whether the length of the environment variable "PATH" does not exceed the recommended length.
INFO: Severity:CRITICAL
INFO: OverallStatus:OPERATION_FAILED
INFO: -----------------------------------------------
Is there some way to work around this issue, or just skip the prerequisites check entirely? I found something on a blog via google about being able to pass a "-ignoreSysPrereqs" switch to the installer to bypass the check. When I tried that, the installer still performed it's checks, and failed with the same error, so apparently that was bad info...
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for the reply.
I did indeed take a look at the client installation instructions here: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24282/toc.htm#BABGCIFF
However, it appears to be out of date, or at least not applicable to my problem. Step 10 refers to an Ignore All button:
"Note: Oracle recommends that you use caution in checking the Ignore All option. If you check this option, then Oracle Universal Installer may not confirm that your system is able to install Oracle Database successfully."
I don't have an ignore all button. At least if there is, it's cleverly disguised. The only option I have after the check fails is "Cancel."
Is there another section of the fine manual I should take a look at?

Win2000: Installer quits during "Executing pre-requisites..."
Hello all. I tried to install Oracle 8.1.7 on Windows 2000
Advanced Server (w/SP2) and every time the installer just quits--
no error message, nothing, the window just disappears--after
choosing the type (Typical, Minimum, Custom), about 30% through
the status bar when it says "Executing Pre-requisites...".
Since didn't have much luck with that, I went ahead and
installed Oracle on a Linux machine. Now I get the same problem
when I just try to install the Client on Windows 2000. After
choosing the type of client (Admin, Programmer, etc) it starts a
status bar, and the installer just disappears after it gets
to "Executing Pre-requisites..."
Anyone have any idea what's going on here? This has actually
occurred on two different Win2000 machines here. The only common
factor I could see was that both of them had been upgraded to
Internet Explorer 6. So I installed an old 4.7 versino of
Netscape and tried again but had the same problem.
Thanks a lot.
--DanHello All,
I got the same problem when installed Oracle8i with Intel
Pentium 4...So I thought that Oracle8i did not support Intel P4
at all...In fact, they did not support P4 in this time....If
anyone figures it out..please share big references...

Sharepoint 2013 - Error installing pre-requisite on Windows Server 2012 R2
I have been trying to get my Sharepoint 2013 installed on windows server 2012 R2. I was never able to get past the pre-requisite installer. It keeps failing at "Configuring Application Server Role, Web Server (IIS) Role" and was never able to get
past that.
In the last 3 days i tried almost all of the suggestions posted in various forums but was never able to get it work. Any insight in to this error and resolution is greatly appreciated.
Tried all things explained here but didn't work
KrisSI voted for the SharePoint 2013 isn't supported yet link. I spent 4 hours resolving the issue. In my installation, there were many claims by the installer that the application server role is corrupt or unavailable. I dove deep into the installer files and
found 1 file that was not in the correct place. I am not going to mention it, because it is the reason the installer should fail.
Downloading and installing sharepoint 2013 sp1 was the answer. Why? Because Windows Server 2012 R2 was my operating system. Windows Server 2012 R2 was not a supported type of installation for SharePoint 2013 until SharePoint 2013 SP1 was released.
I hope this helps those whom have ben in dire need. Even though Paul was initially correct in his statement, the release of SharePoint 2013 sp1 opens doors.
@Microsoft, as a former PFE I think you could have done better. -
