  • Unable to restart the Microsoft Software Protection Platform service from command line - Win81 MS Office 2013 SP1

I'm unable to restart the Microsoft Software Protection Platform service on a Windows 8.1 laptop for MS Office 2013 SP1 (32-bit) using the following command:
    cscript ospp.vbs /osppsvcrestart (issued from C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15)
When this is run, a window appears with the title ospp.vbs and the text "Error: The Software Protection Platform service is not installed"
I verified that the service is installed in services.msc, and was able to manually stop and restart the SPP service in the Services console without issue.
The command runs correctly when restarting the MS Office 2013 SPP on Windows 7 devices.
Has anyone else seen this or have a solution for it?
The reason that I am attempting to restart the service from the command line is because this command is part of a script to change the KMS server IP Address used by OSPP prior to software activation.
The only other options that I have at this time is to ask the users to reboot, or manually force a reboot.  This is both time consuming and disruptive to the users.
The Fix It tool to remove MS Office 2013 was run, and the MS Office 2013 software was successfully reinstalled after a reboot.  The software was successfully activated.  When the command was run, it produced the same exact error.

    Hi,
I am able to reproduce this on my own machine, but in my case, I don't see the specific service running in the Services console.
I would like first confirm that whether you've the right service running on your Windows 8.1 system. The display name of this service should be "Office Software Protection Platform", service name is "osppsvc".
You can also check this by going to below path where you should see the executable file (OSPPSVC.EXE) if the service is installed on your system (in my case, the folder is empty):
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform

  • TAF Service in RAC 10g

    Hi Experts,
i need your guidance. actually we have oracle 10g (10.2.0.4) RAC running with three nodes on AIX6.1 64bit. and TAF service is not configured. problem is this, when one of three node get down due to any reason, say for maintainence. then client are still trying to connect with down node. and when they try to connect with down node then they face delay in connection. below is the service that is being used in client side.
    orcl =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = node1_vip)(PORT = 1521))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = node2_vip)(PORT = 1521))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = node3_vip)(PORT = 1521))
    (LOAD_BALANCE = yes)
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = orcl)
    (FAILOVER_MODE =
    (TYPE = SELECT)
    (METHOD = BASIC)
    (RETRIES = 180)
    (DELAY = 5)
1- question is why client go to down node and face delay in connection.
2- we should configure TAF service to overcome this ? what is the function of TAF service if any recommended MOS or other doc is available please share it
    regards,

    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/network.102/b14212/advcfg.htm#sthref1280
On Metalink/MOS there's doc [ID 334471.1] amongst others, but just do a search on 'TAF' yourself and you'll find many articles.

  • PRKP-1030 CRS-1007 CRS-0223 while starting TAF Service !

    Hello Gurus,
I have CRS 10.1.0.4 with RAC DB 10.1.0.4 on top of Sun cluster 3.1 / Solaris 9 box - 2 nodes.
All nodesapps, DB and instances are online and fine when quering CRS_STAT.
I have added TAF service using DBCA, it gave me an error when it is created.
The same error i get when i try to manulally start it up :
    ==========================================
    $ srvctl start service -d TEST -s TAF_TEST
PRKP-1030 : Failed to start the service TAF_TEST.
CRS-1007: Failed after successful dependency consideration
CRS-0223: Resource ora.TEST.TAF_TEST.cs has placement error.
    ==========================================
    Any ideas ?
    Please advise.
    Cheers,
    Feras

Try deleting the services ,the database resource and its instances ,then add the database again but,
add the database instance node name with lower case ,if it was in upper case.
    Also check *372145.1 - Service start fails with CRS-1030 Crs-1007 Crs-0223*

  • Failed to start TAF service on standby db

Hi, we have a DG configuration based Oracle RAC 10g R2 (2 nodes). After switchover to standby db and start the TAF service, I got the following errors:
PRKP-1030 : Failed to start the service appTAF.
CRS-1007: Failed after successful dependency consideration
CRS-0223: Resource 'ora.standby.appTAF.cs' has placement error.
So basically TAF service won't start. Does anyone see this error before?
    Thanks in advance.

The interesting part is that there is no error in the alert log.

  • TAF Service OFFLINE on standby node

    Hi,
We have created primary and secondary RAC. A TAF service which is ONLINE on primary is added to standby side and is enabled but it shows the OFFLINE status. Is this default behaviour. We can't start is using "srvctl start service" command. My understanding is since the DB is physical standby which is not open, this is the reason the service is OFF line. Once the standby switches to primary it can be brought up. Correct?

You should still be able to bring up the standby as read only. During managed recovery the database is in a mounted state and therefore can't be connected to via the listener.

  • RAC TAF connection and wdbsvr.app connect_string

This question is about APEX failure to work with RAC TAF connect_string. In particular, RAC clustered database has a service called TAF which is configured for transparent app. failover as follows:
    TAF =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = rac1-vip)(PORT = 1521))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = rac2-vip)(PORT = 1521))
    (LOAD_BALANCE = yes)
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = TAF)
    (FAILOVER_MODE =
    (TYPE = SELECT)
    (METHOD = BASIC)
    (RETRIES = 180)
    (DELAY = 5)
Then, my wdbsvr.app file, located in the old-fashined 9iR2 home on non-RAC PC, has the following connect_string:
    connect_string = rac1-vip:1521:TAF
And this configuration does NOT work: cannot get to the APEX home page
Then, I modify the connect_string back to the old-fashioned non-rac-service name:
    connect_string = rac1-vip:1521:devdb1
    where
    DEVDB1 =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = rac1-vip)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = devdb)
    (INSTANCE_NAME = devdb1)
    and APEX works perfectly fine.
    My question is :
Is there a know problem that APEX (the latest version is installed) does NOT recognize RAC services - the failover setup ?
    Please advise.
    Thanks,
    vr

Yes, I can clearly see what you are saying about the RAC TAF polices. I've posted a new thread:
Error ERR-7621 when expecting RAC TAF smooth run with failover
in regard to my problems to demonstrate the RAC TAF features by using the APEX.
From the Dominic's site, I'm running the Swingbench app. (ver. 22) for Orders only(SOE schema) to show the work load balancing. The Circle app. (CC schema) gives me errors. And the Swingbench, ver. 23, gives me some errors even for the default Orders(SOE). I've sent the email to Dominic in UK, and he is looking into these errors.
In regard to his blog entry, it's a new posting to me. Thanks for the link.
And finally, my overall objective with this is like follows:
    - i was asked by my corp. management to make a presentation on RAC TAF with real life examples, like web app.
So, I've tried first a simple JSP page - could not get it to work with TAF services.Connection error.
Then with your help, I've got the APEX working with TAF services, but it's not a real good demo to show. This error message that I'm getting from the APEX kind of undermining the whole idea of TAF - in particular, with simple select statement the end user should not see any errors at all. That is the promiss of the "SELECT"-"PRECONNECT" TAF policy.
    Am I correct on this?
Many thanks for helping me out.
    Regards,
    vr

  • Hi I have an iPhone 4 and suddenly it stopped working. Could here notifications and nothing on the diisplay. Wake up  button on top is not working. so unable to restart the phone. Wanted to try restore from iTunes but Find my iPhone (iCloud) is on.

Hi I have an iPhone 4 and suddenly it stopped working. Could here notifications and nothing on the diisplay. Wake up  button on top is not working. so unable to restart the phone. Wanted to try restore from iTunes but Find my iPhone (iCloud) is on. How to recover or restart my Phone

Follow these steps to log into your iCloud account on your computer and deactivate "Find my iPhone" on your device:
Remove an iOS device or Mac on which you can’t turn off Find My iPhone
If you can’t turn off Find My iPhone on the device, turn off the device so it goes offline, then remove it from Find My iPhone on iCloud.com.
Note:    You can also remove your iOS device by first erasing it—just follow the instructions below for removing an iOS device you don’t have. You can later restore the device from an iCloud or iTunes backup.
Turn off the device you want to remove.
Sign in to icloud.com/#find on another computer with your Apple ID (the one you use with iCloud). If you’re using another iCloud app, click the app’s name at the top of the iCloud.com window, then click Find My iPhone.
Click All Devices, select the offline device, then click Remove from Account. If you don’t see Remove from Account, click All Devices again, then click the Delete button next to the device. If the device comes online again, it will reappear in Find My iPhone. If your device reappears, turn off Find My iPhone on the device (follow the instructions above for removing a device by turning off Find My iPhone), or if it’s an iOS device and you no longer have it, follow the instructions below for removing an iOS device you no longer have.
Remove an iOS device you no longer have
If you no longer have the iOS device because you gave it away or sold it, you need to remotely erase it before you can remove it.
Sign in to icloud.com/#find with your Apple ID (the one you use with iCloud). If you’re using another iCloud app, click the app’s name at the top of the iCloud.com window, then click Find My iPhone.
Click All Devices, then select the device.
Click Erase [device], then enter your Apple ID password. Because the device isn’t lost, don’t enter a phone number or message.
Note:    If you’re trying to erase a family member’s device, that person will need to enter his or her Apple ID password on this device. If the device is offline, the remote erase begins the next time it’s online. You’ll receive an email when the device is erased.
When the device is erased, click Remove from Account. All your content is erased, and someone else can now activate the device.

  • Can we create a (RAC) db service to assign a conc mgr to an instance

    Hi Everyone,
Can we create a rac db service to for EBusiness? For example, can we create a service for AP module to run on instance1 of a two nodes RAC, and a service for PO to run on instance2.
I know i can assign a node to a conc mgr and use the specialization rule to include/exclude a user to send request to that conc mgr. But this seperation is done at the ebusiness, not at database service.
My understanding was that we can not create a service at the db because all the requests comes from one conc mgr. But having the ability to create more than one conc mgr, so maybe the question now is can i create a service for a conc mgr. lets say, I create a db service for standardard mgr on instance1 and create a db service for custom_mgr on node2. Is this possible?
I am not on the distribution list, please email me at [email protected]
    Regards,
    Manizha

updated ipad mini last night with the ios 7.6 and now am unable to restart the pad, we have tried charging it completely and have had no luck in restarting it

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without be charged again.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

  • Not able to start the RAC database service

    Hi Experts,
I have created a RAC Database service . I have made two instances as preferred and no instance as available. When i am trying to start the service
(srvctl start service -s newser -d newdb) , the command is hanging.
    Please help me out.
    Thanks and Regards.

    Hi Ivan,
    Grateful for the clue.
We got the similar issue in the following 2 node RAC setting:
    - hpux 11.31 v3 (rx3600 series)
    - Oracle 10.2.0.4
I discovered in the logs under $ORACLE_HOME/log/node_1/racg/imon_some_db.log" :
    2011-07-02 12:26:33.193: [ RACG][19] [3903][19][ora.bw_st.bw_st1.inst]: GIMH: GIM-00104: Health check failed to connect to instance.
    GIM-00090: OS-dependent operation:mmap failed with status: 12
GIM-00091: OS failure message: Not enough space
GIM-00092: OS failure occurred at: sskgmsmr_13
Will try the patch to see whether gets fixed.
