RAC with different OS?

Hi
I want to add another cluster to my RAC with different OS (Windows 2003). And my clusters OS is "Suse 9". Can I do it or should I change Windows OS to Suse?
Regard

Hi
Thanks for your attention
I have a RAC with two cluster (Suse 9 OS). And I want to add another cluster with Windows 2003 OS. I don't have any problem with network setting (node connectivity) just I have problem with 'Oracle' user (user equivalence).
now my question:
Is a way to define the 'Oracle' user in Windows OS?
mean while I used the NFS for disk-sharing, and I can use a "MS Windows Services for NFS" for define my users and groups.
another question: Can I use different type of Linux like FreeBSD or RedHat?
Best Regards

  • Install CRS and RAC with different users

I' m tring to install CRS and RAC with different users.
It is supported but I don't find documentation.
Have someone experience with this configuration ?
My question are related to permission/own of voting and ocr file.
in this configuration is CRS owner or DB owner that run srvctl commands ?
    Thanks !

Yes it is ... check out the RAC FAQ on metalink, and just as Chris metioned the users will need to have the oinstall group as their primary..
"Is it supported to install CRS and RAC as different users.
Yes, CRS and RAC can be installed as different users. The CRS user and the RAC user must both have "oinstall" as their primary group, and the RAC user should be a member of the OSDBA group.

  • Is it posssible to install two RACs with different version on one IBM HACMP

The version of HACMP is 5.4. The version of Oracle database can be 9i or 10g, or both are 10g.
    thansk a lot

    Hi,
We have an oracle 10g database configured with RAC. We also have an oracle 9i that is not configured with RAC. You mean that if I want to install another RAC on the HACMP, I need upgrade to 10g. Rigth? What i understand from your above point is : you want to configure your 9i database with IBM HACMP cluster, if its so then u need not have to upgrade to 10g or RAC i can straight away finish this task.
Contact your HACMP vendor for steup and technical documents for settingup HACMP on 9i database.
I think your doubt is now cleared.

  • Where can I learn about RAC with APEX .... or APEX architecture?

    Hi All,
We are desiring to use RAC w/10g and run several APEX applications.
RAC runs different instances of the same Database so I need to know if there would be a problem with the session information.
    Thank you, BillC

    Bill,
I believe that the reason you don't see much on this topic is because it is very architecturally simple. For me, at least, this is a good thing. You can contact me here:
    http://concept2completion.net/c2/f?p=9876:20
if you want some details, but I think what you are looking for can be summed up fairly simply.
First, let's assume now Webcache because I think Webcache is very unusual for an Apex application.
You don't need to cluster any of the mid-tier components. Just put a load balancer in front of your App Servers. You will get a slight improvement if you have the load balancer perform a sticky session (that is, it will route the same user to the same App Server for subsequent requests). The reason for this is that if the user is routed to the same App Server it is likely to get the same database session it had previously, and will likely be on the same RAC node.
Configure your Apex DADs (typically one per App Server) to utilize as many RAC nodes as you like. Generally this would be all of your RAC nodes, but that is not necessary. Your DBA will probably know how to do this for the effect you want (balancing, failover, etc.).
So, what happens through a request. This is dependent a little on if you let the Apex engine handle session mgt. Generally you do, so we will assume that Apex is setting a cookie and handling the checks. My order might be slightly off... The "Apex Engine" refers to activities that Apex does inside the database.
    1. The user requests a page.
    2. The App Server passes the request along with any cookie information, header info, etc. to mod_plsql, which has a session pool connected to the database instance(s).
2a. I'm not 100% sure on this, but I believe that if the user has already used a session from that session pool, mod_plsql will try to reuse that same session which is already connected to a database instance. I think this will cause the user to be connected to the same instance that he was in previously (if this is not the first call).
    3. The Apex engine (inside the database) checks for the existence of a cookie and a session id that match a record in the session table.
3a. If no match is found it will create a record and set the cookie and session id in your browser.
    4. The Apex engine sets up environment variables (nls_lang, apex_user, etc.) and accesses any user session info (in a session info table)
5a. If a submit, the Apex engine processes the page and, via the App Server, returns a page moved response indicating what page for the browser to branch to (see 5b)
5b. If a get, the Apex engine creates a page within the db and passes the generated html back through the App Server to the browser.
As you can see, the App Server does not do much. It is just a conduit between the browser and the database.
If you want to add Webcache to the mix, you have to tell Webcache to cache the pages generated by Apex. Webcache will generally cache based upon a url, and generally does not cache posts (page submits) but only gets (links). As your links will have a session ID in them (and you will have a unique cookie value), Webcache will only provide a cached response to the user if the user has already visited that page within that session (with precisely the same URL). This can be great, if you have a page that does not change much, but it can be a nightmare if either the data in the database changes (and you want the change reflected) on the page, or if you have some other process that should cause the page to change (e.g. if you set some search criteria in a process, not in the url and the report where clause should change). In either case, if Webcache responds, it never calls the db to regenerate the page, you just get the exact data on the page. The way around this is to have the database issue an invalidation to Webcache whenever either of these cases occur. As you can see, this can be a lot of work. It's a lot to just type up the description of it! The only cases where it makes a lot of sense is when you have a lot of content that does not change on a few pages or really big content (e.g. documents, images) that you will download more than once in a session.
I hope this helps. Drop me a note if you want more details.

  • RAC with Multiple controlfile's

Is it possible to start multiple oracle instances with different controlfiles (with one database name/alias) instead of using the common controlfile.
right now we are using all files in common except pfile like standalone pfile for each instance.
The way we are able to control the database with pfile/like block size and some other common parameters.
in the same way does the oracle 10g or any future database support the separate controlfile for each instance.
DBA should be able to choose the controlfile parameters/datafiles .

I have 7 application systems that need 7 different Oracle database servers. It is not that simple. There is no such "+rule of thumb+" even that states that one should have one application system per database. So you're assumption that because you have 7 app systems you need 7 Oracle db servers, is very much flawed.
There are numerous factors that dictate how resource intensive that app system is and the size of the server it needs (or the number of servers in terms of RAC).
How many nodes are to be configured to support 7 instances of database?7 what instances? 7 dedicated non-RAC instances? It is seldom technically sound to run 7 (or more) database instances on a single server platform. Often better performance and scalability are achieved by consolidating those difference instances into a single instance.
7 RAC instances? A RAC instance per server is needed. Thus 7 servers would be required.
But this is IMO still very much irrelevant thumb suck equating 7 apps to need 7 RAC instances.
This is not how client-server architecture works. It is not a hardware architecture - it is a software architecture. For that reason it is wrong to assume that each s/w layer or component in the client-server architecture needs a separate and dedicated h/w platform.
Client-server does not scale using hardware alone. In fact, scalability via h/w alone can be a dead-end street running into a massive and unmovable wall.

  • Execute crs_stat –t with different user

    Hi Xperts
I am trying to do a monitoring script and I want to execute crs_stat –t with different user than Oracle (DB and Grid owner), I receive:
CRS-0245:  User doesn't have enough privilege to perform the operation
        CRS-0202: No resources are registered.
I already register User2 to Oinstall group and I am able to connect to sqlplus with User2.
This monitoring scripts is going to be part of one monitoring tool, I already integrate other DB monitoring scripts.
DB: Oracle RAC 11gR2(11.2.0.3) with OEL 5.9
    Thank you for your time
    Regards

can you try to execute crsctl stat res -t -init using user2 .
crs_stat command  is deprecated  in 11gR2.
    Thanks,

  • DR Site with different os

    Dear all,
    I have 2 servers,Sun and IBM and oracle 10gr2 .I have a plan to implement DR-site.I know a dataguard cann't using with different os,rigth?
Do you have any idea for this plan (except using dataguard)?
    Thank you for advance
    chara

I would be surprised if DataGuard could fulfill this role with the disparate O/S, though the MOS note shows the database needs to be non-RAC, non-TDE and at 11.2.0.2 or above. Both O/S' need to be 64-bit also. I know when I looked at this not so long ago, it wasn't an option, but now they seem to have updated it.
I would suggest GoldenGate. It's intended for logical replication between heterogeneous systems, which is basically what you're looking at. Though you might find the cost very high - one of the key selling points is to limit downtime between migration and upgrades and a lot of their main customers are banks.

  • RAC with multiple databases

    hi,
we are evaluating a design for the configuration of 3 databases in 10g RAC in linux
Available HW: 2 servers each with 32 gb ram
No of databases need to be configured :3
what would be the effective configuration?
    the options we think are,
    1) One 2 Node RAC with 3 databases or
    2) Three 2 Node RAC each with 1 database each
what would be the licencing cost in different options
    please help

    hi,
    sorry, am new to RAC.
heard about one implementation wherein with a h/w of 2 servers,
    1) 2 node cluster for one database
    2) single node cluster for the second database in one of the servers.
is it possible to configure multiple clusters on the same machines?
here in our case, we have 3 databases that need to part of RAC configuration.A single node cluster? A "cluster" implies two or more servers.
If you have two servers, you can create two node cluster for any number of RAC database(s).
Also you can create stand-alone database(s) on either server.
If you use VM, you can cluster as many VM machines as you have configured.

  • 10gR2 RAC with SUN V890 and SUN M5000

    I would like to build a 10gR2 2 node RAC with a SUN Fire V890 (8CPUs 1.8GHz UltraSPARC IV+) and a new SUN M5000 (8CPUs SPARC64).
The CPUs of the systems are different but run the same OS binaries (Solaris for SPARC10 08/07).
    Is these configuration supportet?

You can setup a cluster with different hardware architectures underlying to the cluster and you should not have any problem with the above configuration.

    Hi,
1st: whether it will be a Homogenous or Hetrogenous system copy?
This will be homogenous system copy
2nd: can i use the hp dataprotector to restore on different hardware? If anyone has experience with restoring on different
    hardware using dataprotector please share..
dataprotector is backup utility, for using this utility you have to configure dataprotector client on new hardware , after which you will be able to restore the database.
    Thanks

    question
if i cannot connect to remote ip to open the report
for each report i have to create a database the report database on my machine and then open the report ?
or there is some other way to open the report ?
i am using visual studio 2013 and mysql and
       <add key="MYSQLODBCDRIVER" value="{MySQL ODBC 5.3 UNICODE Driver}"/>
    thanks

  • How can I transfer contacts from one iPad to a new iPad with different iCloud addresses?

One way would be to e-mail them from yourself to yourself. That would totally avoid the different ID issue.

  • How to backup multiple iphones with different iCloud accounts but same apple id?

I would like to back up 3 idevices each with different icloud accounts to itunes. But they use the same apple id so that itune purchases can be installed on each device (2 iphones and 1 ipad).
All I want to do is create a backup in case the phones need to be restored. I also want to back up before downloading iOS 8.
The Macbook Pro that I will back up to has one user and one itunes library.
Is this possible without mixing up address books and contacts etc? Appreciate if some one could direct me to detail step-by-step instructions if they exist or please tell me how I can do this.
    Thanks.

With Family Sharing they don't need to have the same Apple ID anymore.
But backups to iTunes are kept separate among multiple devices; Apple ID and iCloud isn't involved at all. Just make sure the devices do not have the same name.

  • Can i use 2 ipad's on the same itunes account with different apple accounts?

Both me and partner have an ipad 4. Though we only have one computer, can we use the same itunes but with different apple acount without any issues? We use some of the same apps, but my partner plays fx Baldus Gate and is worries that save files will be corrupted.

Each iPad should be linked to its owner's personal, private and nonshared AppleID. In the Mac, each one should have a different login account so each has their own iTunes Library containing your iPad's details. When you use iTunes on the Mac, since each logs in with a different login and corresponding Home directory, iTunes picks up the correct AppleID.
