Radeon 9000 Pro Graphics Card

Hi Everyone:
Will the Radeon 9000 Pro Graphics Card work in the G4 Tower with a 2x slot?
What about in a iMac G4?
Thanks-
Sue

Thanks Guys-we figured it all out in the iMovie discussions!

  • ATI Radeon 9000 Pro video card is conflicting with additional memory

I have a ATI Radeon 9000 Pro video card. I have a 645E Max motherboard (MS-6547). I recently purchased a 512MB dimm of Kingston PC2700 Cas 2.5 memory (KVR333X64C25/512) to go with the the 256MB dimm of the same model # above. I installed the memory and my screen stays blank. When I remove the new dimm it runs fine. I did get the memory and the motherboard tested at the store where I got the motherboard and they work fine. I came to the conclusion it was my video card when I removed all my components except the memory and the video card, and turned on the machine, nothing. I did try swiching dimm location and changing any bios settings I thought would make it work. I tried updating the video card drivers and motherboard AGP drivers. If anybody had this problem in the past could you tell me how you got it to work.

I took the board and the 2 dimms to the store where I bought them.  They hooked up both dimms and a video card to the board.  When it was powered up, both dimms were recognized.  After I got home I proceded to determine if another component it conflicting with the memory.  I started with both dimms and my video card the Radeon.  I powered up with no other hardware connected and the screen remains blank.  I remove the 512MB dimm and leave the 256MB dimm in, and powered up and pc booted up normally.

  • ATI Radeon 9600 PRO Graphics Card

I am thinking of upgrading my graphics card, my computer came with a Nvidia Geforce4 mx, I was at the apple store and noticed a few people having problems with this card. I was wondering if anyone out there has any info for me about the odds of this card working on my Quicksilver G4 933 MHz. Iam driving a Cinema Display 20 inch. I really like gaming online and could use the added memory that the ATI Radeon Pro 9600 has, plus my curent card has problems with full screen games.

    StephanZcat,
I've been out of town for a bit and just saw your post and links. I'll do some research and see if I can come up with something. ...and maybe we can get some other experts in here.
    JBernstein:
Apple usually has a disclaimer about all 3rd party upgrades to Mac's that states they 'do not support them'. So, if it's not for sale at the Apple Store or a Dealer, "It's not supported" - even if it works just fine. For Apple Authorized Do-it-Yourself upgrades there is a page you can access:
    http://www.apple.com/support/diy/
There are many sites that track Mac upgrades, I'll list a few.
For 3rd party upgrades and issues, look at:
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/
    http://www.barefeats.com/
    http://eshop.macsales.com/benchmark/index.cfm
BTW, your 20' just needs at least a 32MB Video card to push it. Here's a list of most cards that will fit in your 'Sawtooth'. It's set up for Apple Cubes but the information may be helpful in
seeing the differences in video cards

Note: Your Sawtooth's motherboard does NOT support ADC connections. There is no power supply for them. You will have to make sure whatever Video card you get has DVI and VGA (not ADC).
Look at this for compatible video cards for a Sawtooth:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/MyOWC/Upgrades.cfm?model=166&type=Video&TI=%23TimeForm at%28Now%28%29%2C&shoupgrds=ShowUpgrades
Finally, there are a host of 'flashed' PC video cards available for Mac's on Ebay. I have a few and most work fine. If you want to see some options, I suggest you look at what a seller named 'yoyomarv' has for sale. Ask questions before you buy. A card you might consider is a converted NVidia Geforce 4 Ti 4600
    It's a start...

i'm getting a blank screen at start up while using my radeon x1300 pro... dont really know whats wrong with it. the agp slot is good, i'm getting power to the card, my board is set to boot agp/pci for the video so thats good. only problem is is that i'm not sure what the model of my motherboard is to check with compatiblity. got the mb and processor from a buddy of mine. he got the mb and processor from a friends grandpa... so to make long storys short. i have no idea what my computer is made of but from what i hear ati products dont seem to get along well with msi. is there any logical reason? and if so is there anything that i have overlooked here? common problems and such. i've updated everything i could update but still no signs of life comming from my video card " and yes the card was pushed in all the way". any feed back would be appreciated.

  • Final Cut Pro with a ATI Radeon 9000 Pro

I have an older Power Mac G4 that I have upgraded from 400Mhz to 1.4Ghz and a ATI Radeon 9000 Pro video card. I recently bought Final Cut Pro 2.0 and do not want to upgrade the video card yet again. Does anyone know of any work around to get Final Cut Pro to work on this computer?
    Details are as follows:
    Error message -
The installed graphics card does not support the OpenGL features recommended by Final Cut Pro.
    ATI Radeon 9000 Pro:
    Chipset Model: ATY,RV250

    NDRV 1.1.0f53
    VRAM 64
Any work around at all would be great. ATI told me to upgrade to 9600 AGP or 9800 AGP. I am not even sure the 9800 AGP will work on this vintage Power Mac.

It looks like http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs.html you will be able to run the basic Final Cut Pro program but, obviously, its not going to scream. Many of the individual elements of the suite i.e. Motion, Color, are not going to function as they should without a significant boost in several things, memory, processor speed, video card.
In all honesty, you should be running FCP 4.5 or 5.0 which will run very well with your hardware. But since you already have FCS2, (I assume that's what you mean, not really Final Cut 2) hang on to it for when you decide to do what all of us eventually will have to do; buy an Intel based box.
My G5 is fast approaching obsolete, and I'm just waiting for the next version of Final Cut Suite to see how much box I need to go to. Didn't think this time 19 months ago I would be saying that... but time does roll on.
    You'll enjoy FCS2 (FCP6)

  • MSI 6309 & radeon 9000 pro

I have an msi ms 6309 motherboard and want to add
a radeon 9000 pro video card either 64mb or 128mb
Can anybody tell me if this video card will work on this motherboard.
Will i need bios updates or driver updates any info will be grately recd.
I have tried a radeon 7500 128 mb without any luck
I have memory conflicts and bad driver instalation
    CAN ANYONE HELP !!!!!!!!!!

    Hi dazbacon,
Since you're using MS-6309 which is a Pentium III board, I move this thread to the respective Pentium III forum.
First of all can the card being detected by the PC, and PC able to POST? If yes, then it should be drivers problem. What graphics card you used previously? have you removed completely the old graphics card's drivers?

  • Agp 8x settings and my radeon 9000 pro

I have KT4V-L mobo and an ATI radeon 9000 Pro video card.   The card itself will run at 8x, the board supports 8x, but in order for my card to run at 8x, i have to set my AGP voltage to 0.8.  This seems not possible as the only settings im allow are 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8.  I am sure i have upgraded my bios, and still cannot select 8x AGP.  anyone have any ideas?

  • How to tell if an ATI Radeon Pro Graphics card needs any updates?

I have upgraded the firmware on my G4 Gigabit and re-installed the combo update for OS 10.4.11, and am on an update rampage. I am wondering if I need to update driver/firmware for the video card in this computer. It is a ATI Radeon 9000 Pro. System Profiler lists its ROM Revision as 113-99703-127.
How to tell if this needs an updated driver? Also, the ATI site lists both a download for ATI Displays Panel, and Retail Update. If I need to update, which is it, or both?
I know nothing about graphics cards.
    Thanks!
    BC

    Hi-
The ATI Displays panel is a handy tool. Install if you like, with no worry as to adverse effects.
Other than that, Tiger has all the drivers that you need. No firmware update is needed, either.
Should be no need for outside updates for the 9000.

  • Can I use an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro Mac Edition 128MB Video Card in a Mac Min

Looking to buy a Mac mini.
In 2004 I upgraded the graphics card in my dual processor 450 MHz G4 desktop with an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro Mac Edition 128MB Video Card to run a 20-inch Cinema Display.
Now my G4 has died (probably the power supply and I'm being told it's not worth it to fix---buy a Mac mini!)
But I've read that the graphics card in the Mac mini is not stellar and I'm wondering if I could reuse the ATI Radeon 9000 Pro Mac Edition 128MB Video Card in the Mac mini. Would this be a good thing to do?
Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated!
    Cheers,

There are people that claim to have hooked up a PCI-e 1x card (yes, the Mini uses PCI-e). But that requires some serious hardware modifications including soldering, a PC power supply, and so on. But that card is an old AGP card so even that wouldn't even work for what you've got.

  • Radeon HD 5770 graphics card works perfectly with my MAC Pro 1,1 and Adobe CS6. However, Photoshop CC won't read the card drivers and says I need to reinstall them and disabled 3D funtions as a result. Anyone else with this issue?

Radeon HD 5770 graphics card works perfectly with my MAC Pro 1,1 and Adobe CS6. However, I upgraded to Adobe CC and Photoshop CC disabled some filters and 3D functionality. The preference panel for Performance/Graphics Card in Photoshop CC is greyed out and inaccessible and shows this message -
"Photoshop detected an error in your display driver. Update or reinstall the driver and check Use Graphics Processor to retry."
I still have Photoshop CS6 installed and it still works perfectly. Anyone else with this issue? Is there a driver update for this compatable with my setup?
    OS 10.7.5
    Mac Pro 1,1
    20gb ram
ATI Radeon HD 5770 Graphics Card

after going round with this Adobe was able to find the fix....opened the "show content" folder for the application Photoshop CC (control click on the application folder) and navigate to the sniffer file and rename it by putting a tilda ~ in front of the name..." ~sniffer ", close and open PhotoshopCC...and voila, problem solved... Thankyou Adobe support

  • MS 6340 & radeon 9000 pro

    hi all,
I have recently purchased a radeon 9000 pro, so i can play the new game HOMEWORLD 2! however. When ig ot it i followed the instructions and the card worked, when i opened the demo of the game i had downloaded it crashed, i then rebooted my pc and the screen didnt come back on. I removed the card from the AGP slot and plugged the monitor back into the VGA slot. it came back on! i re-installed, and it worked, i opened the game again, set all its settings to min and played, it crashed again a few seconds into the game.
    i removed card and rebooted.
I have tried resetting the cpu to factory settings with the software that came with it and then uninstalling the prosavage S3 adaptor, by removing the driver and the device from device manager, installing then the radeon and hey presto, ... nothing. ! i am now stuck, people have told em to disable the VGA adaptor, but i dont know how, the manual that i ahve downloaded for this motherbaord give pics of the bios screens, but the pics are not reflecting what i see in my bios screen! and theres nothing suggesting disabling the VGA, even if i did do that, i dont know if the screen would come back on! as stated above.
any more information i will glady post please please please help me!

    Hi,
Assaf could well be right that you have a power problem here ... I would not mmediately think of BIOS problems in this case (although your system appears to be quite old and Tiny used to have their own BIOS versions).
I understand that your system worked (& works) but that the system will crash ONLY when you try to run Homeworld 2, correct?
Are you sure that DirectX 9 is installed (you may check that using DXDIAG)? For this new game DX9 is necessary!

  • Questions regarding ATI Rage 128 Pro graphics card in Sawtooth

Hi, i was checking on the web regarding the specs of my Sawtooth and stumbled upon this page: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powermacg4/stats/powermac_g4_400agp.html
My Sawtooth comes with the ATI Rage 128 Pro graphics card. Its indicated the max resolution support is 1920x1200. I was wondering if it is able to support resolution 1680x1050 for wide monitors like the Samsung 205BW? Have anyone tried using a wide screen monitor with the Rage 128 pro card? Does it work well?
I'm not a gamer and i don't intend to upgrade the graphic card. (Though it would be nice to get my hands on the a Radeon 8500 or 9000.) I mainly do graphic work, and currently using a Samsung 740B monitor set at 1280x1028 resolution.

Hi, I posted the exact same question in another forum, and i was directed to this link: http://forums.appleinsider.com/showthread.php?t=58395
So i guess it does work. Though maybe, to a certain extend, like mentioned by one of the forum members:
"My old Sawtooth 400MHz G4 had an ATI Rage 128. It drove my 20inch Apple Cinema Display (the current design) with DVI. Not the best graphics, but it could do it, and without any hacks too..."
Hope this helps with anyone having the same questions... : )

  • 645 Ultra-C and ATI Radeon 9000 Pro

    Hi there --
I have a 645 Ultra-C with P4 1.7mhz attached to it. It has 640mb of RAM, Audigy 2, and brand new ATI Radeon 9000 pro. It's running WindowsXP
The issue is that upon installing the ATI card into the machine WindowsXP is freezing and then recovering with an error message about a device failure. In checking the system log I see an error message about the ATI driver being stuck in a loop.
I am using the driver I downloaded from the ATI web site along with the ATI control panel software also downloaded from the ATI site. The drivers are the latest.
I am able to regain stability by disabling hardware acceleration in Display Properties. This is less then ideal.
I'm using version 7.2.0.1130 of the AGP driver. I'm not sure which BIOS rev, it would be the one the motherboard shipped with. However I'm unable to flash the BIOS really since I do not have access to a 98/ME box. As I understand it I can only flash the BIOS from a 98/Me startup floppy on a non-FAT machine. LiveUpdate gives me an error message about the service not being started and that LiveUpdate only works with MSI graphics cards.
In the BIOS I’ve switched the primary video card from PCI to AGP. I’ve even downgrade from AGP 4x to APG 2x using the AGP utility.
    Any ideas?

flashed up to 1.90 via LiveUpdate2, after pulling ATI card and running on tnt2 card, and now I'm cranking

  • Radeon 9000 Pro AGP - will it work in PM G5?

    Hello,
just like in my topic. I have just acquired G5 2x2 GHz (PCI-X) but with faulty graphics card. I have a spare Radeon 9000 Pro 64 MB AGP, which was pulled from G4 MDD. Will it work in G5? In theory it should as it has AGP 2x/4x 3.3 V connector, which AGP 8x is compatible with. What do you think? I'd like to use it temporarily, before I get radeon 9800 or nvidia 6800 for this G5 Thanks!

    japamac wrote:
    Hi-
I am aware of the AGP specs.
There is one other factor, that you have failed to consider.
Apples use of the ADC port also included use of pins in the connector that later became needed for the 8x AGP standard.
*ADC port is not a part of AGP 8x standard.* G5 uses AGP Pro port, which has somewhat longer slot, but additional pins are at the back of the card rather than front like ADC connector.
In the 4x AGP cards, the ADC port uses pins that are designated for other use in 8x.
Apple had to change the ADC port pin configuration for the G5. G4 ADC cards are not wired correctly.
I'm pretty sure, the machine will just not boot, like a 4x machine with an 8x card.
If it works, please let us know. It will be the first.
If you short out your AGP slot, you were warned.
Here you're right - ADC connector on G5-aware cards is slightly different. But keep in mind, that it is still used for ADC voltage supply, so in theory it should be enough to tape out ADC connector on 9000 Pro to not harm either mainboard or graphics card. After all, flashed Radeon 9800 boards do not have ADC connector at all
The AGP bus is 1.5 V only and is not backward compatible. Older AGP cards will not work in the Power Mac G5 computer.
This is quoted from the Apple Developer Notes for the G5.
Of course, but rv250 GPU used in 9000 pro card is 1,5 V compatible, so basically it should work...
Tough decisions. On the one side - I could wait for proper G5-aware card and install through this time system and applications using my old PCI Matrox card. On the other - seller claims that only Nvidia 6800 got faulty in this G5 when its fan stopped working. But if this is AGP port that is fired and I can't check it right away, when I get the computer... What would you do in my place?

  • ATI Radeon 9000 Pro and 1440x900 resolution on G4?

I am looking to purchase a new widescreen monitor (Viewsonic VA1912WB) which supports a native resolution on 1440x900. I am trying to determine if the ATI Radeon 9000 Pro card will properly support this resolution. Anyone have a clue, or tried it yourselves? Thanks!

I had found that page and had drawn the same "hopeful" conclusion that you are suggesting. I also looked in my displays preference pane and noticed quite a few options that aren't on the ATI site as "supported displays," which leads me to believe it's possible.
I've checked out some other boards (pc based) and they are able to make it work but it involves modifying all sorts of driver files. Stupid PC's!
Anyone else out there have the ATI card and the ability to test that resolution?
