Radeon 9200 PCI card

Does anyone have any experience using this graphics card on a dual G4, 500 MHz tower? I am trying to find out if it will work.
Also, I remember reading somewhere that Apple is moving into PCI cards. Is a PCI card likely to remain current longer than an AGP card?
I currrently have an ATY,Rage128Pro and need to upgrade to AGP for compatibility with Final Cut Express.
Thanks.

If your computer has an AGP slot you should use it. It is a lot faster than PCI. The ATI 9200 should work if it is a Mac version. New Mac G5s use PCI-Express which is not the same as PCI. It is a lot faster than PCI or AGP.

  • ATi Radeon 9200 Graphics card??

I'm looking into getting the ATI radeon 9200 128mb for my old Power Mac G4 dual 500 gigabit ethernet, however I am a little confused. I'm pretty sure the card is PCI, and of course my Power Mac is AGP, 2x I believe. Does this mean that it is not compatible with my Power Mac? If it is, would I have to install it on a pci slot instead of the AGP slot? Would the performance suffer because of this? Thanks.

You will notice a big difference between the 9200 PCI card and the 9800 AGP.
The 9800 is a lot better than the 9200 series to start with and there is also a big difference between the AGP and PCI bus.
Just bear in mind that the 9800 comes with a molex power cable so that it can be plugged into a hard drive power source. They do suck a bit more juice and can cause problems with smaller PSUs like the Sawtooths have.

  • Radeon 9200 PCI Mac Edition not working properly

I recently purchased a Radeon 9200 PCI mac edition for my G3 B&W on ebay but it doesn't seem to like my B&W. It displays fine but refuses to load the driver and makes OS 9.2.2 freeze upon booting. I already have the latest drivers for it (january 2005 update). I haven't seen any similar issue around the net. Here is my B&W specs:
It has a G4 400mhz from the Yikes! running at 450MHz with voltage tweak help and 3 additinal fans attached to the heatsink (which is also original from the Yikes!).
    1GB RAM
    80GB + 40GB HDs
    2x Voodoo2 8mb cards running in SLI.
    ADB Keyboard + Mouse
removing the Voodoo2 did not fix this. I currently use a Radeon 7000 64MB PC flashed to Mac which works out of the box and share the same drivers. I don't have OS X installed. Please help, I don't know what to do anymore.

    Try this driver update (again):
    ATI OS9 RADEON Update.zip
If you have an older mac w/G4 CPU upgrade (beige G3 or older for instance), for years there's been reports of conflicts (boot hangs, etc.) with ATI OS 9.x extensions (graphics accelerator extension IIRC) and cache enablers. Renaming extensions (space or tilde first letter) to change load order may help. For OS 9.x users, install the 9200 OS 9 drivers before installing the card. Also there's been several problem reports from older macs w/PCI IDE cards or SCSI PCI cards and the 9200 PCI card,

  • Radeon 7000 pci card leaves monitors blank when booting up in os9.2

Hi, I've installed a Radeon 7000 pci card to run a second vga display and it works perfectly when I am in os x 10.4.10. But, when I start up into os 9.2 (to run a legacy program and scsi device) both monitors go grey after the start up is completed. Once I pull the video card out, os 9.2 is visible on the monitor running off of the agp card. I don't need the dual monitors for the times I use os9.2, but I don't want to have to pull the pci card out each time I switch to 9.2 either.
Would anyone have any ideas as to why this card isn't working when I go to os9.2? It looks like it almost works as it displays all of the start up screens and extension icons, then goes grey. Is it a Tiger issue with a cure? Or would there be a agp card that would allow me to run both vga monitors and would work on at least one monitor when I switch over to os9.2?
Any replies would be greatly appreciated!

The OSX install CD was a retail (black) one.
I also tried both 10.3 and 9.2 retail install disks.
At one point the CD seemed to go through the
activity of booting (activity light and noises) but the
screen was black with not even the power light lit on the monitor.
All other times it spun up, blinked a few times then stopped.
The time it went through the blinking and spinning
of booting it was with a new EIDE cable.
I noticed the original cable had pinholes in it.
I tried the CD drive by itself on both the
motherhoard connectors (jumper on CD set to master).
I also tried it with the HD with it set to slave (HD set to master).
I'm thinking this is a cable issue.
But with new EIDE cables to the HD and optical
it still is a no go.
I'm going to lay the motherboard and all components
out on a desk and use an OCZ ATX power supply I have.
However when I first got the G3 and it wouldn't power on
I plugged the OCZ into the motherboard and HD.
It still would not power on. Then I discovered the
two buttons on the LB and after pressing them it
started OK with the original PS.
It usually starts OK now with the front button.
I also have a DVI to ACD Apple converter and
    an ACD display.
It shows a splash screen very distorted then goes black.
    Any other thoughts?
    Thanks again for trying...

  • Radeon 9200 Pci  128 Video Card probelms

Having some probelms here i installed the video card and restarted everything went well but when it booted up to my desktop it froze up and didnt want to do anything

This ATI Knowledge Base article addresses the problem, occurring with a Radeon 9200 in early G4s running OS 9.2.2. Their suggestion is to move the Radeon card to a different slot and/or rearrange the existing PCI cards. They note that this problem doesn't occur in OS X.

  • Radeon 7000 PCI Card

I am trying to help my Father with a new monitor and possibly a graphics card. Will an ATI Radeon 7000 PCI graphics card work in a G4 400mhz sawtooth? Thanks for the help.

While a Mac-compatible (programmed with a Mac ROM) Radeon 7000 PCI graphics card will function in a G4 Sawtooth, I'd really suggest that you get an AGP graphics card. The AGP bus is designed strictly for the graphics card, so that it doesn't have to share the PCI bus with other cards. A 2x AGP bus effectively runs at 133 MHz (2 x 66 MHz), so you really don't want to take a big step backward and use a 33 MHz PCI slot for the graphics card. In terms of choice for a suitable AGP card, be sure that the new display's optimal resolution is supported by the graphics card. The product info/specs for ATI's recent Mac cards can be found here. Specs for their discontinued Mac AGP cards (Radeon 7500, 8500, and 9000 Pro) can be found here.

  • Mac Pro & ATI Radeon 9200 graphics card

I just bought a new Mac Pro but upon set-up I realized that I couldn't use my existing Apple monitor that has a ADC connection. I would have to buy the Apple DVI to ADC Adapter. Instead of doing this, could I take the ATI Radeon 9200 out of my old Quicksilver and put it in the new Mac Pro? This older video card has the right kind of connection that I need for this monitor. I could put it in and try but thought I would ask before I did just in case it is not compatible.

The Apple adapter will work for a LCD with ADC, but not for a CRT.

  • Radeon 9200 graphic card on MSI KT6V-LSR mainboard crashing

My problem is as follows: I'm running my KT600 mainboard (MSI KT6V-LSR) with a Radeon 7000 graphic card without any problems at all. However, when trying to upgrade to Radeon 9200, the machine crashes right after login in Windows XP and I actually have to remove the mainboard battery to be able to start it again. I'm using the latest Catalyst drivers (5.11). It works fine in safe mode and in vga mode. Any obvious solution on this anyone?

sounds a bit extreme. does your system have a reset button?
No, just a power button. However, no response on it after a crash like this.
Quote from: Dr Stu on 14-November-05, 04:30:20
have you tried uninstalling the Catalyst drivers in Safe Mode and then rebooting, then reinstall drivers once windows has loaded?
I have uninstalling/installing the drivers a couple of times yes.

lastly, Is your problem caused by your PSU? please provide your PSU specs in case that is the cause of your woes...
My PSU is a 350Watt powersupply. The case actually prevent me to see the brand of it, so this is all I know. BTW, the Radeon 9200 card is running perfectly fine on another mainboard I have (asus), so I guess the graphic card is fine.

  • Radeon 9200

Is anyone else experiencing mis-behaviour of a Radeon 9200 pci card? It is slow, and the display occasionally seems to lack definition. (Worked fine with 10.3 and 10.4.) Not a monitor problem because the monitors work fine when connected to the built-in video card.

An update to get this off the "unanswered list"...
A question posed among Power Mac G4 users generated the suggestion to try the ATI driver. See:

Believe it or not the video display improved immeasurably.

  • PM QS 933 w/ ATI Radeon 9200 Card: Picture rolls vertical line on TV Output

Has anyone who uses an ATI Radeon 9200 Mac video card with s-video out ,
when connecting it to your TV, do you see vertical picture rolls?
I've tried installing Switch Res X to see if that would fix the issue,
however it only address Monitor and not TV resolution.
Is this a drawback of the card, or is there a way to tweak it so it
can display without the picture constantly rolling from bottom to top
the faded white line on picture?

The way I have it setup is thusly:
ATI Radeon 9200 Mac Card is set in PCI slot, no other monitor cards exist.
S-VHS little yellow adapter (S-VHS to RCA) plugged into S-VHS slot,
then three way ( Video, Stereo Audio) RCA cable is plugged into that
running directly into AUX RCA front ports of TV.
Picture Quality, Audio Quality is great. Color and Luminance is great.
Only problem is when picture plays from Mac to TV, a faint ghosted
( 10%- 15%) veritical white stripe rolls from top to bottom to
    and then again.
Funny thing is...I inserted a DVD Recorder between the Mac and the TV to
see if I could record it so I could make a screen grab of the recording
to post here for everyone, but the recording shows NO VERTICAL LINE ROLL.
So my guess is that it is in the TV. I could try swapping out TVs,
but since all my TVs are analog, ( and 32") I don't and can't afford
to switch to an LCD of the same size right now, and if it is a bug
in the card's way of synching to a TV, esp. Analog, then it would repeat
    the process.
I also looked on ATI/AMD's website, nothing in its' FAQ or Support DB.
I plan on trying to call them if I can't figure this out.

  • Radeon 9200 Compatibility problem?

    Reference my last post https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=70391
Before RMA'ing the motherboard, I borrowed a generic FX5200 from a freind's computer and put in my neo2 Platinum board and it posted just fine and booted into a dos partition that i have configured for testing.  Does this mean that an ATI Radeon 9200/128MB card will not work in this motherboard, or is there still an issue with the motherboard?  I also tried two PCI video cards for grins and giggles and they would not work either, just got the one long and two short beeps during post.
Can anyone shed any light on this?  Do I need to contact MSI technical support?  ATI technical support? The model number on the 9200 is 102A0621300 088717
    Thanks,

MSI sent me a new BIOS w7025nz101.  To apply it, I had to boot with another video card (nvidea chip set).  Once applied, I rebooted to confirm system still boots.  Installed 9200 and rebooted, system posted and booted into my test partition just fine.  Booted several times succesfully.  As I had installed xpsp2 in another partition with the nvidea card i put it back in and went into the os to do some things and to prepare to update my primary partition with the new motherboard.  Shut down, replaced nvidea card with the 9200 and the system again will not post.  Tried several times, but no go.  Re-applied the BIOS (had to put nvidea card back in to do this) and re-installed the 9200.  Same problem, the system will not post with the 9200 installed.  Why it posted the first time on the new BIOS is a puzzle to me.
To answer wingie, I entered a support request on the miscomputer website via a web form.

  • Radeon 9200 Problems Playing DVD

I am tryring to play a commercial Hollywood Video, Steven Segals Under Siege. It is playing just fine right now in my G3 Laptop and used to play just fine in my G4.
About 10 days ago I installed a Radeon 9200 ATI Card in my G4 in order to run my new 23 inch Apple Cinema Display.
Today I tried to play the Under Siege DVD in my G4. It plays for about 15 or 20 minutes then the computer screen goes black and the computer is frozen. I have to hit the reset button on the front of the computer.
I tried this 5 different times using Apples DVD Player Version 4.6.5. Same result. I then tried it using MPlayer & VLC Movie Player both of which I downloaded from Version Tracker. Same result. Freeze up & Crash.
Now all of the above happens when I am viewing the DVD with about a 6 inch screen. As I said I can get about 15 or 20 minutes then the freeze and crash.
But, if I set it to full screen, which I did with all 3 DVD players described above, it only takes about 5 minutes to freeze and crash.
Same thing happens when I try to play a Movie in Windows Media Player or Quicktime or Real Player at Full Screen Size. As long as I keep the size below about 6 inches it works. But when I try to go full screen size the Screen goes Black and the computer is running, I can hear it, but it will not respond to any key or movement of the mouse or to Escape. Must hit Reset Button.
I am thinking that this Radeon Card is the culprit. What do you think?
I know the Apple DVD Player works just fine as I am watching the Segal DVD on my laptop as I type this.
My computer works fine in every other way. Safari, Microsoft Word, Entourage, everything except playing the DVD or using a screen saver such as the Apple Beach Picture. Same Crash happens when I use it or any other large photo that covers entire 23 inch screen.
    Thanks for your help. Bob

I can remotely log into my system from my windows machine and I tried to kill the running processes which didn't work. I than usually have to do a Reset by way of the button on the front (can hold the powerbutton and have it shut down too.)

  • Can i use an apple display with an ati radeon 9200?

so, i have an old mac (bw g3 w/ g4 upgrade) and an old crt monitor (power computing 17"). the monitor is showing it's age and looks like it has maybe a month left.
i can't afford a new mac right now as much as i would love to get an imac. but i will need a monitor so my question is can i buy/use an apple 20" monitor with my ati radeon 9200 video card?
    thanks

My Mac mini (according to my system profile) has that same graphics card and it runs the monitor just fine, can get a bit choppy with Expose but thats neither here or there.
Im not sure where in the world you live but in the UK a 20" ACD is almost the same money as a 17" iMac, that way you get your dream pc and a nice new Widescreen display.
Hope you enjoy whatever you choose.

  • Can't restart after upgrading video card to a Radeon 9200

Hi All, I just purchased a Radeon 9200 AGP graphics card for my Quicksilver. I removed the old card which worked fine and installed the new card. As soon as I pushed the new card into the AGP slot the computer turned on and it started to start up. Then a rather load beep sound came through the speakers and the light on the front of the computer started to flash. I tried this a couple of times but it still will not start with the new card installed. Everything works fine with the original card.
    Anybody have any suggestions?

    Hi,
Welcome to the Apple Discussion Forum!
Did you purchase a regular PC version ATI 9200 video card that was 'flashed' for Mac use? Or, is it just a PC version ATI 9200.
Either way, a regular PC version won't work in a Mac, even though it fit's the AGP slot. If it's a 'flashed' card from an Ebay Seller it sounds faulty, get a refund.
ATI only offered a Mac Edition 9200 as a PCI card, not AGP. There was an ATI 9000 Mac Edition in AGP.

  • Radeon 9200  card + hdmi problem

A customer has a g4 tower (mirrored drive doors) with a radeon 9000 card in it. He had ordered a radeon 9200 to put in his machine and was looking to hook up a monitor or tv with hdmi in it. The card has DVI output but I read on amazon that converting this to HDMI to plug into a TV does not work. Is this true? and if it is could anyone suggest a card that he could use to hook up his g4 tower to his hdmi monitor. Thanks

    Hi CGraham-
Yeah, I assumed 9200 PCI, since 9200 AGP in a Mac or a flashed PC card is not much of an improvement over the 9000 (if any).
    9000 Pro AGP- RV250 GPU, 64bit, 275mhz core clock, 275mhz DDR memory clock (550mhz)
    9200 AGP- RV280 GPU, 128bit, 250mhz core clock, 200mhz DDR memory clock (400mhz)
I'm assuming we're talking AGP with a MDD, so there shouldn't be a problem...
Then, I would agree with you.......
What's the scoop, are the card(s) PCI or AGP?
