Radeon 9600Pro

Hi,
I am about to order an ATI Radeon 9600PRO 256mb PC & Mac edition AGP video card and would like to double check that it is combatible with my Mac. I've had graphics card issues in the past and would like to avoid them this time around.
My specs are:
Power Mac G5 dual 2GHZ processor
Mac OS 10.4.10
Thanks!

See the previous post, many people have issues with this card, including me! For a small number of people this card will not work with a G5.

It may not affect you, but take a look at the ATI x800 XT, or the radeon 9650. Both give you Dual link DVI.

  • ATI Radeon 9600Pro locking up

Hey guys, my ATI Radeon 9600Pro, a normally very stable card is locking up on me, I'm getting "VPU has recovered from an errror" messages and when I load FarCry, after a minute or two even in the menu (which is odly enough graphics heavy) the primary monitor cuts out. The secondary remains though it inaccecible (normal when playing a full screen game). I was wondering if anyone else is having these kinds of issues...

CnQ = AMD Cool n Quiet. If you've enabled it in BIOS & Control Panel Power Options then turn it off and see if that helps. Seems to cause instability for some people in graphics heavy apps (it crashes my m/c in 3DMark03 for example).
hmm...well your power supply does sounds OK. Definitely try the AGP 4x - this generation of ATI cards doesn't seem to like running at 8x on many mobos. Mine won't play at all at 8x - I think it's something to do with needing a v.stable AGP speed???
    cheers.

  • Catalyst 3.9: indeed a solution for Radeon 9600pro?

Until now I have only been able to avoid system locking up and screen going black
with my Sapphire ATI Radeon 9600pro ultimate (passive cooled),
by reducing the AGP transfer rate from 8x to 4x (plus no fast writing and no sideways writing).
Yesterday I installed the new Catalyst 3.9 driver and until now I had no crash
although I'm using AGP 8X again.
Remark that I'm using system default settings (shadow disabled) and I play no
    games at all.
Are there other users with similar experiences?

I've been to optimistic, problems are back.
I'll have to return to AGP 4X
Unacceptable for a card of 225 euro.

  • Radeon 9600pro: info

lthough I don't play games at all, I can only use my
Radeon 9600pro (Atlantis, from Sapphire) with colors set to 16bpp (1280X1024).
If I try 32 bpp, often my screen goes black, followed by a W-XP device error message my screen being reset to standard VGA and I'm advised to restart Windows.
It seems that many people with different motherboards and configurations are facing serious problems (most of them with games) with the 9600pro.
The problem seems to be caused only by the graphic card and there is
no veritably solution at the moment.  This is my conclusion after reading this very long thread:
    http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/8596/?o=320
I did install the new Catalyst 3.8 driver from ATI: no solution,
but a new "VPU Recover" facility is added, which did reset my PC when the
usual device error occurred, so I was able to continue my work.
Also a crash message is generated by VPU Recover and send to ATI (if you admit).

  • Switch Radeon 9600Pro for MSI 5900 SP(XT) ????

Is it smart to switch my Club3D Radeon 9600Pro for
    MSI 5900SP 128MB Vivo video card ????
I have Athlon XP 2000+ (overclocked to 2,2 GHz)
    2x256 DDR RAM
    MSI K7NF2 motherboard
    I have 11500 marks in 3DMark 2001SE (default 1024x768)
    and 3300 marks in 3Dmark 2003 (default 1024x768)
I can overclock it to 450/700 MHz (stable) and littel mor fo unstable.
I hear that I can overclock 5900 SP(XT) very good and that performance are much better.
Can I have much better performance in games with MSI 5900SP(XT), than I have with Radeon 9600Pro ?

The FX   card will outperform those 9600 or any other you mention.. and you wont have to overclock the card to do it... My roomate has the newer one 256 meg 9600 from radeon and my fx5900XT Kills it.. dead .. the higher the rez the more badly it kills .. we are both using Barton XP2800 and 512 ram .. Im running an Nforce 2 NB my roomates is the KT400a ultra.. and hes got serial raid... pretty even testing ground id say....

  • Problems with radeon 9600pro

Uninstalled my geforce 4 TI 4200 and installed my new Connect3D Radeon 9600PRO with Catalyst 3.8.
It seemed to work fine, but while testing, 3Dmark (both 2001 and 2003) start making strange poligons, bad textures and other graphical issues difficult to explain.
It happens the same with Aquamark3 and also with games like Max Payne 2 or Unreal 2003.
Just working, using word, internet.... it works perfect, i looks like a problem of 3D.
What can it be?? Can you help me please?? I've tried catalyst 3.4, 3.6 and Omega drivers with same results

    RE: AGP/PCI lock
Read a lot about some people being able to lock at specific frequencies and others not. I don't know why this is but I discovered this today while tinkering with the 1.8 BIOS.
When I first set up the board, I had SATA and PATA devices on the Intel controller and was only offered 3 settings for AGP/PCI freq. in the BIOS. I believe they were 66/33 70/35 and something higher that I considered unusable. I then spent the last couple weeks playing with the overclocking features and since the AGP/PCI showed "locked" at 66/33 using ClockGen, I decided not to worry about the fact some people could go up in 1MHZ increments.
Since I moved the SATA devices over to the Promise controller, I noticed that all of a sudden, I too can adjust AGP/PCI in 1MHZ increments but no matter how I set it, it won't lock. Using overclocked settings just pushes it up after booting. I figured out today it was because I had set "keep SATA Active" to "No" in the BIOS since I was no longer using SATA on the Intel side. I then changed this setting back to "Yes" and the AGP/PCI options go back down to 3 options and I can now lock again at 66/33. Yippee!!
I imagine many vets here might already know this but I've been on the forum a couple of weeks and haven't read about this. Now... If I could just figure out how to get 1Mhz adjustments AND locked frequency.
I copied this from an earlier topic for you to look at.
maby something here for you to try out..
sorry the HT thingy diddn't help. i'll try to look into it further for you..
    good luck.

  • K8n neo 3 and radeon 9600pro problem !

ok have anyone have the same problem with radeon 9600pro like me. the card is agp slot and when starting the computer the screen doesent react at all its stay blank. but when putting the radeon 8500 it starts if anyone could say where is the click.... thanks
the mainboard is k8n neo 3 gold

Make sure in the BIOS it is set to run from AGP, if there is that option.
the bios itself detects if you use a pci express or agp card in the AGR slot, you cant configure it.
    Quote
There have been some issues with the 9600 series and 8X agp / agp fast writes.
Try forcing 4X agp and turning off agp fast writes in bios to see if it at least boots for you.
there are no settings like fastwrites or AGP mode. the AGR slot only works with cards which are compatible.
    have a look http://www.msi.com.tw/html/products/mainboard/agr/7135agr.pdf
i had luck my card works and is not on this list

  • KT4 Ultra / Radeon 9600pro

I have given up on my Radeon
    going back to newegg
have read some post elsewhere that the card and KT400 chipset are
virtually incompatible (had to drop FSB to 110 in order for WINXP to boot
along with disable of fastwrite and drop to 4XAGP) worked well with TNT2 before
but still can't get back to 133 FSB
Anybody out there having luck with a AGP card in 8X
with all the normal features enabled??
    planning to try nivida 5600ultra

Nvidia has no problems with VIA so if you got the 5600 ultra you should be fine

  • KT3 U and Radeon 9600PRO, games not running

    Hias,
Don't look at my sig. I am posting here because I am building a game rig for my nephew, following specs:
    KT3U latest BIOS
    AMD2000+
    2 x Crucail 256MB PC3200
    HP 4x CD writer
    LG 16x DVD player
    Maxtor 40 GB HDD
    Power color R9600 PRO 400/400
Win XP Pro RFM version (no service packs)
    PSU 3,3v@30A 5v@35A 12v@16A
Every time I start a game, the game stops after a few seconds.
Some dx6 games can be played 4 a few minutes, after which the application is terminated. No warning, no hangup, no message, the application just disapear ???.
Sometimes a BSOD is generated, without any warning on it.
    I have tried following options:
    Fastwrite disabled,
Appenture size from 4MB to 256MB
AGP speed is 4x (tried 1x and 2x as well)
VPU recover is off (tried on as well)
    Tried Catalyst 4.1, 4.5, 4.9, 4.11 and Omega 2.5.9
    Tried AGP voltage 1,6v
But running out of options now  ..plz help. I'll return the favour when ur getting an AMD64 based board

    Thx 4 the reply.
Memtest is a bit difficult since I have no fdd, so I tried Prime95, it gave an error on step 1
I tried upping the mem voltage to 2,7v...BSOD
So I geus the mem won't be able to work together with it. The mem works fine on my rig.
So I ordered a K8T Neo FSR and a Sempron 3100+, the athlon 2000+ was a bit slow for gaming anyway..

  • System Lock-up. Is 9600pro the cause?

I have just purchase a bunch of new equipment including an MSI 865PE Neo2  (MS-6728) motherboard.  There are a few games causing my system to lock-up and I am pretty sure My ATi 9600pro (ATi Brand) is the culprit.  The most interesting is Command and Conquer Generals: Zero Hour.  Even at all of the lowest settings and my card set to highest performance mode the system freeze requiring a hard reset.  Homeworld 2 is also locking up whenever I try to have better than marginal graphics settings.
I know that the card is the problem (or at least the root cause of it) because I borrowed a 9800pro from my roommate and both games ran like a dream (this also casts doubts on it being a problem with my PSU considering the 9800pro requires a lot more juice).  It appears that the only way I can run generals without crashing is by lowering my AGP to 4x.  I tried dropping the aperture to 64MB but to no avail.
I have updated my BIOS to the latest (1.5 I believe), I am running Catalyst 3.7 (the latest), latest windows updates, and have the latest drivers for my Intel chipset.  I am at a total loss of what to do and I would really appreciate some help here.
    System Setup
    MSI Neo2-FIS2R 865PE P4 Skt478(MS-6728) motherboard
Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz w/ 800MHz FSB and HT enabled
ATi Radeon 9600pro 128MB (ATi brand)
1 GB TwinX1024 Corsair XMS3200 Ultra Low Latency Dual Channel Memory
2x Western Digital Caviar Special Edition WD800JB 80GB ATA/100 7200RPM w/8MB buffer (NOT IN RAID)
    On-board Audio
    300W PSU
    System Settings
    FSB: 202MHz
    Vcore: 1.5250 V
    Memory Voltage 2.50 V
    AGP Voltage 1.5V
    CPU Speed: 2828-2829 MHz

If the freezes and hangs only comes when you are gaming, There are only 3 possibilities:
    1. IRQs Conflicts,
    2. PSU weak(Mostly),
    3. VGA Drivers.
Try checking the above possibilities and see if you manage to get rid of the problem. To my observation of your config of the system, I would dare to say, PSU is the culprit.
    All the Best... :D!!!

  • [Radeon] Computer keeps shuting down?

    Hi,
I'm very new at all this so please hear me out.
I was given the VGA card (Radeon 9600pro) from a friend to see what l thought of it and it worked fine fo a couple of days and now it just keeps shutting down my machine. I took it out and now when l startup  it tells me to "press F1 to start" Memory test fail. I have 2/ 512MB sticks so l tried one at a time but my maching just hangs and will only work when both are in.
I have no idea what's going on. Could some one please explain what l've done wrong.
    Thank you for you time.

  • Still strange problems with 9600PRO...curious

I wrote some days ago about problems with my Connect3d Radeon 9600PRO.
The thing is that I tried it in my friends pc and it works fine (benchmarks and games without these "Graphical Corruptions and Errors" that made me reset my PC when they appeared)
Now, I have a 865PE MSI motherboard and another from Intel (PERL) and I still have this graphical errors playing and benchmarking. Whit my friend's Radeon 9600PRO exactly as mine one (from Connect3D) I didn't had this problems.
But I discovered one thing. If I put a 80x80mm fan over the graphics card, it doesn't have problems May it a be a "hot" problem?? May it be that the card is overheated??
If so, someone told me to change my radeon bios, but I don't know how. Can anyone tell me a page where it is explained.
    Thanks

Download clockgen (just google it) and make sure your agp speed isn't too high.  Lots of people have reported that MSI oc's on certain settings. Even though your friends card runs fine, it might just have more oc headroom than yours.

  • MBO MSI 645 Ultra and Ati Radeon x1650pro 512MB agp

I tried to upgrade my comp. with new graphic card Ati radeon X1650pro, 512Mb, AGP.  X1650pro works great 3 days and then colapsed. When I became a new one from shop, It hapen the same: work great 3 days and then colapsed. I dont know what to do. I have old MBO MSI 645 ultra, intel pentium 4 on 2,4 Ghz, 1280 RAM, 80Gb + 120Gb hard drives, Samsung DVD player  and LG DVD-RW... I think this motherboard dont support Ati Radeon X1650pro graphic card. I have before Ati Radeon 9600pro 256Mb and it work perfectly.  Dont tell me that its time to buy all new (MBO, procesor, etc...) Regards from Croatia...

If you place Ati 9600 back in system, is all OK?
    Could be faulty 1650pro card...........
Please couls you list all components in your system.........

    hi all
i have just aquired the kt6 but can not get the graphics card to work properly, a radeon 9600pro
it works fine in windows, but as soon as i try to play any games it just crashes, sometimes re starting and others just sits there with black screen, at sometimes theres even loud screaching sounds when this happens through the speakers, i also tried another card, radeon 7200 with the same resaults, i have tried different drivers, fast write on and off, re installed windows and still no luck.
also the mic input dont work on this board and when windows is loading theres a loud crackling noise from the speakers when the sound card drivers load
i have had no problems with other msi boards and this card but this mobo just dont like it, could it be a problem with the boards agp bus? or could the board be faulty?
    specs are as follows
    550w psu
    3200+ 400 mhz
    512 samsung 400 mhz
radeon 9600 pro, made by ati
Kt6 delta mb set to 200fsb(=400mhz)
