Radeon HD 4670 incredibly slow with radeonhd and KDE 4.4

Hi,
today I installed Arch on my desktop pc and wanted to test KDE 4.4. The desktop pc has an Radeon HD 4670 card and due the incompatibility from the catalyst driver with the new xorg, I have to use the radeonhd driver. Everything works ... somehow. I can watch the screen slowly refreshing if I move a window or scroll something and I cant activate compositing.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
          View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

Photoshop CS6 keeps crashing. I am using a brand new IMAC, I have 16GB RAM recently updated as it was running slow with 8GB and lots of hardrive space. When it crashes, i lose all my presents and it changes my preferences, it also fails to save or produce a recovered file despite settings asking it to do so every 5 mins now. When i try to report the problem, it says it has found an issue and gives me a link to a solution....but wont let me click on the link.... PLEASE HELP! It's killing my productivity.

If the crash started right after you added RAM, it could be a bad Ram dimm. You can try this - change the amount of RAM in Photoshop to 4G, this should stop Photoshop from using the higher ram. If it doesn't crash, it's probably the ram. Or run a diagnostic app. You don't say when it crashes, what you're doing when it crashes - it there a pattern? Did it ever work on this computer? Did it work on your previous computer? Without a lot of data, it could be related to the new computer... What OS version? Did you recently update it? Have you updated Photoshop to the most recent update?
Do you have any plug-ins loaded? Try restarting Photoshop, and immediately press & hold the shfit key to turn off plug-ins.

  • [solved] Issue with conky and Kde 4

I have a small issue with conky and KDE 4.2. I start conky with a script which I stored under ~/.kde/Autostart. The script is simple and looks like this..
    conky -c ~/.conkyrc_kde4
This works fine. But when I restart the first KDE and check with ps, I have 2 instances of conky running. The instances keep on growing with the number of restarts.
I think kde tries to restart all the apps which were running when the session was terminated. Is there a way to change this behavior in general or all the programs or for only a specific program like conky ?

    I did
Systemsettings > Advanced > Session Manager > Start with an empty session
and put everything you want in Autostart

  • Incredibly Slow with Spinning Ball

In the last week my MacBook Pro has become incredibly slow. I have contacted Apple Support, done a safe start, verified the disk with no issues. Even typing into this box is met with constant pauses and freezes.
Below is a check I did through EtreCheck. Can anyone tell me what the issue may be. This makes no sense to me.

  • OpenScript recording is slow with FireFox and ADF 11g

    Hi everybody;
I trying the OpenScript for recording some scenarios, and I am facing some problems:
1-     When I use the internet explorer (IE) it records fine with an acceptable speed, but when I replay the recorded script it misses out the fields and the links that I clicked, meaning: it starts to highlight other places on my page which I didn’t click while I was recording.
2-     When I use FirexFox, I get other kind of problems. First the recording is unbelievably slow. It might take a minute or two for every link I click to respond. Also when I replay the script it executes faster than it did while recording but much more slower than doing the same scenario in real time meaning: doing it directly on the browser by a real user.
Kindly note that my application is an ADF 11g application with EJB3 and the application server is Weblogic 11 and the database is oracle 10g.
    Any ideas will be appreciated
    Thank you all

  • Weird line on the right edge of the screen with fglrx and KDE Plasma

    Hey there,
I am using an AMD Radeon R9 280X with the fglrx driver for my 2-monitor setup: One 1366x768 monitor on the left side, one 1920x1080 monitor on the right side. My current DE is Plasma with KDE 5, but the bug also existed (though not as bad) with Cinnamon.
Now to the problem: On the right edge of the screen is the 2-pixel-width vertical line currently in grey, which even exist in full-screen applications.
On Cinnamon the situation is a little bit different: Here it only appears sometimes, but then it flashes frequently, though full-screen applications cover it.
Interestingly I can hover my mouse pointer over it.
Here are two screenshots: One with the whole line and one showing the above described.
I configured my screens with amdccle and/or the KDE 5 display manager. Here's the generated xorg.conf:

Yes, this only happens on the big screen
ewaller wrote:Not that it matters (as the full screen display overwrites it), but what type of interface is it?  HDMI, VGA?
    DVI
ewaller wrote:What does the display report as its current resolution in the on screen menu?
It reports 1920x1080 as it's current resolution
As a test I changed the resolution to 1400x1050 in the KDE menu, but the monitor reports it as 1680x1050. Though the bug still persists.
ewaller wrote:What effects to you use in KDE?  Although this is mitigated by your having had the problem with Cinnamon
I use the standard configuration of effects in KDE. But the bug persists even when I turn off compositing.
There is a small difference in the bug between Cinnamon and KDE: First off the line has a smaller width in Cinnamon and full-screen applications covered it.
Also it isn't an offset per se off the whole X screen, but instead only of the KDE/Cinnamon "workspace".  E.g. windows snap with the line, but behind the flickering you can still see the current window, e.g. when moved to the right.
(Sorry for not answering for so long)
EDIT: Also the flickering gets more extreme the smaller the reosultion was I changed to inbetween http://i.imgur.com/WQ4fkmf.jpg

  • My Mac is running INCREDIBLY slow, Kernel-task and LR, PS, PSE, etc. are not functioning well.

Hi!  Been trying to follow a thread about the Kernel-task and slow Mac performance.  I did download EtreCheck and ran the report.  I am a photographer using LR 4 and Chrome is my main browser.  Both Chrome and LR (or PSE, or PS or Xee (a photo viewing app) make my computer run beyond ridiculously slow.  I have so much work to do for clients and I get stopped in the middle of editing and cannot move forward because my beloved Mac is having issues.  I did go through several old apps and the Application Support and Prefernces and deleted what I could of what I knew "what was what".  I would appreciate any help in getting my Mac back on track.  Thanks!
    - Amy
    Problem description:
My Mac is running incredibly sluggish.  Chrome continues to lag, and the spinning ball is ridiculous when I am working in LR.  I did the EtreCheck and the report is below.  I JUST cleared out my LR catalogs and now have just two folders in the catalog from a current wedding I am working on.  I will have to consider using separate catalogs for my other genres or even smaller catalogs and just make a catalog for each client.  Thanks for looking this over!  I am so frustrated.

    Several problems exist.
    1.
Back up your Mac prior to making any changes to its file system. Time Machine has not been configured properly To learn how to use Time Machine read Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support.
    2.
You inadvertently installed adware. You do not need to download or install anything to fix it.
For a description of how this may have occurred, how to avoid it in the future, and for Apple's recommended actions read How to install adware. Apple's instructions are linked in the Recovery Procedure near the end of that document. Read and follow them carefully. Pay particular attention to the easily overlooked passages directing you to restart your Mac when required.
    3.
That Mac's Hosts file appears to have been modified. Fixing a modified Hosts file requires specific instructions. Apple Support Communities contributor and EtreCheck author etresoft recently added a User Tip discussing that concern, and how to correct it: Fixing a hacked /etc/hosts file

  • Email is very slow with icloud and oftentimes won't go through at all. Ugh.

I've switched to "free" icloud - having no choice, because i've used the same email address for years in business and personal dealings and honestly, i'd rather be paying every year as i've always done. Between icloud and lion (which cost to upgrade to)  I'm fed up and it's costing me a LOT more money and wasted time - so much for free!
None of my microsoft office programs will work now in addition to other software
My computer is slow as a snail now
My email is unpredictable and can't handle the files it used to
My email is slow and 1/2 the time doesn't work - just freezes up
My ipod touch can no longer be synced with my computer because of the version it is - which means i cannot use it for booking appointments on the road anymore. Nor can i refer to or add contacts on it.
I feel duped - now looking at needing new computer, new ipod, new microsoft office suite... all of which i use for work every day. I'm feeling like a windows PC user.
I'm guessing that if I don't switch my macbook to lion i'm going to have sync problems there too, or is that out the window anyway? I'm afraid to turn it on at this point.
And, losing Spaces - and having Desktops - which are so small I cannot see what's on them, total waste of time clicking back and forth repeatedly. I used spaces all day every day because I operate multiple adobe design programs simultaneously along with email, etc. I cannot see the contents of the new 'desktops' so I have to keep clicking them all until i find the one i'm looking for. I'm leaving out the other quirky glitches. Try changing your desktop background, you have to change each 'desktop' individually and when you power down, your changes are lost each night. Laughable.
Ready to dump mac mail and pay another service provider, use time machine to return to snow leopard, lose all the work i've done since then, write off the cost of lion upgrade as a waste of money and call it a day. I have to say, this is the first time I've ever been unhappy with apple - but wow, they've blown it in a big way here.

  • CS3 script runs slow with CS4 and CS5

I have written a table transformation script for InDesign CS3, which formats an imported Excel table.
With InDesign CS3 the script runs well. Now I tried the same script with InDesign CS4 and CS5 and it runs very slow. It's about 10 times slower than with CS3.
I tried to turn off redrawing, but this didn't help. It even got slower again!
Does someone has made similar experiences? Could you solve the performance issue?
Do scripts in CS4/CS5 generally run slower than in CS3?
Does CS4 differ so much to CS3 that the script runs 10 times slower?
What can I do to improve the execution performance?
Thanks for any tips / advices etc.

I now have made some tests with profile / timing. Here are the results.
you find the code snipped below. It iterates first over all rows and then over all cells inside of the row. In the cell iteration, the function hasGapInLineBelow(...) does more iterations.
The example is with a table of 42 rows and 9 cells.
    I have compared CS3 and CS5
    there are 3 test cases:
for 1/1 means: first for-loop is in iteration 1 and second for loop is in iteration 1 (statements for first row and first cell done)
for 1/9 means: first for-loop is in iteration 1 and second for loop is in iteration 9 (statements for first row and all 9 cells of the row done)
for 2/9 means: first for-loop is in iteration 2 and second for loop is in iteration 2 (statements for second row and all 9 cells of the row done)
it's strange that normal variable assignments take lot of time (like the statement startPos = indexLeftNeightbourOfCurrentCell;) -> I don't understand why this can be so time consuming!?!
it's also strange why in "for 1/9" and "for 2/9" variable assignments take much longer than in "for 1/1"...
could I use another data type than array for the variable isMergedRow? Which one?
do you know any performance optimizations?
in which time unit ExtendScript Toolkit shows the measured periods?
how are the times calculated in loops? Are these the times sumed up over all iterations or is it just the time for a single statement?

  • Synchronisation slow with Win7 and iTunes 64bit?

Hi, I've just upgraded to Win7 Home Premium 64bit OS. I have successfully installed the new 64bit iTunes and re-built my iPhone.
I seems to me that Sync is much slower now. It took nearly all night to re-sync all my music (around 23Gb).
Am I imagining it or is this slow?
    Nigel

i have windows xp and i am not sure which packet but i experience very very slow sync..whenever i plug in my 3gs os 3.1.2 i get an error message stating that i have plugged in a high speed device to a low speed port..i have had slow sync since i got the phone months ago using the older operating systems as well..i have tried all ports on pc including the one directly connected to the mother board and still slow..i have noticed that when the phone is syncing it goes to backup then puts tunes on iphone then syncs again..what i do to speed this up is i cancel the backup then it immediately starts to sync again and begins shortly thereafter putting music on phone..it does take about 10-12 seconds per song..it was taking me 1-3 minutes per song before i discovered this phenomenon..i just bought an new generation nano and it takes 2-3 seconds per song not 10-12..big difference..because of the nano's speed can't i assume that it is the software on the phone..all i have is music, ringtones, application, and pics..i called apple and got an ******* with a doctors degree, so he claims, and he told me to clear out operating system and reinstall..he thinks the prob is that i haven't updated xp since i have the pc for 4 years..i have automatic updates off..does mac machines experience same probs???

  • Finder running slow with SSD and NAS on Mavericks

I'm having serious slowness issues with the Finder in Mavericks. Initially I thought it was because I upgraded from 10.8 to 10.9, but I'm still having the slow finder issue in a clean install of Mavericks.
I thought this was related to my NAS, but it also seems to be the case with my SSD.
Here is what I've done so far:
    - Clean install of Mavericks done.
    - Tried the following fix from this site: http://osxdaily.com/2013/11/13/fix-finder-slow-high-cpu-use-mac-os-x/
to rebuild the “com.apple.finder.plist” Finder preference file.
    rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist&&killall Finder
Still no luck, here are screenshots of my settings for your reference, any suggestions?
    Finder Preferences set as follows:
    Trim is enabled:
    Here is my systems specs:

  • HP 990c prints incredibly slow with mac (SL)

I just moved my wife from windows to mac and now her printer .. HP 990c .. prints at about a quarter of the speed per page as it did on her old windows machine.
Is there a setting or printer driver other than the one with OS X?
    thanks
    tom

    Solution that works for me!
I found the same thing with my Lexmark T520 printer. Previously, the print command sent a Word or other text document to my printer almost immediately. Under 10.6.2 I found that it took over a minute and a half to send the job to the printer.
I called Lexmark today and they gave me the solution. It might work for you too.
Go into System Preferences, select print and fax, select your printer, and click on the minus sign to delete your printer from the list of installed printers. First, make sure that you have the printer driver so you can reinstall. It's most likely in your system, but I don't want you to follow my advice and then not be able to reinstall.
Then click on the plus sign. Your printer should show up in the list. Select it. When you add your printer from the list, you'll see a drop-down menu which says "Print using." That's the key. My default was selected for my printer name. Instead choose "Generic Postscript." When I went back to printing I still had all the options of my printer available and the print times are now as speedy as they were before I upgraded to Snow Leopard.
    Good luck!

  • Youtube Loading Incredibly Slow/With Errors

Ever since I updated to v37 browsing Youtube has been a nightmare. I get the spinning wheel for 20 seconds adn than an error. I refresh and it finally works but I have to do this for every video. I have disabled all of my addons and it still happens. I have checked and made sure Java/Flash are all up to date and they are. I have tried using the html5 player but it still takes forever to load. I was hoping 37.2 would fix things but it hasnt. Why is watching videos on youtube such a hassle but when I try using Chrome it loads up immediately without any errors. Solutions? THanks

  • Skype slow with sending and recieving messaged in group chat

I seem to have no trouble with ordinary one to one shat, but when i'm in a group chat it takes a very long time for my message to be sent it just stays gray and have that loading circle to the left.
Also some messages recieved are recieved many minutes after they are originally written, making a group chat very confusing overall...

  • Skype Incredibly Slow with Large Group Chats

I was invited to a very large group chat (170 memebers, 100s of posts a say, active for years) and every time i attempt to read it skype grinds to a halt. It can take minutes to load new messages, during which the entire application is unresponsive. Skype is basically always using < 200MB ram during this, but it does seem to use a substantial amount (~1GB) of virtual memory.
It is very frustrating. Is there anything I can do to at least improve the situation?
Im using 7.2 (412) on Yosemite on a Mac Book Air
