Radeon HD 7690M XT and HP dv7-6c47cl

My dv7 laptop works, for the most part, completelly fine. Granted I have sent it in for repairs multiple times....and honestly don't doubt I will need to again.
The main concern with it is this dreaded dedicated graphics card. The Radeon HD 7690M XT graphics card is pretty much the entire reason I bought this computer to begin with. So I can play games on my computer. At first, it was great and I was playing games on the highest quality without issue.
Now, I am unable to play the same games on the lowest quality without considerable lag and very unenjoyable experience. The Intel Graphics card does a better job at running games! This is outrageously frustrating, as this is the main reason the computer was bought in the first place!
I know that there is an issue with updating the driver, and I'm convinced that is the reason I can't play the same games I could when I bought the computer with the same performance. I have factory restored my computer and even stripped it to only essential programs to run, so that isn't the issue. IT IS THAT I AM UNABLE TO GET A DRIVER.
I know other people are having the same exact issue as I am. But, I can't find ANYWHERE that someone has found a way around the fact that HP won't provide official updated graphics drivers. AMD is releasing version 14 and HP is still only providing version!? Whiskey tango foxtrot, Batman!
Can ANYONE give me a helping hand? I'd like to at least play my daggon Skyrim on low quality without dizzying lag.
This question was solved.

Hi,
One option you could consider would be to try the customised switchable graphics offerings avaiable on the following link - I have only ever used these on a very limited number of machines, but they seemed to work pretty well for the Intel  3000/7690M XT muxed graphics.  I'd always advise creating a system image ( or at the very least a windows system restore point ) before proceeding - you may also want to try different revisions, as personally, I didn't always find the absolute latest version gave the best performance.
http://leshcatlabs.net/
Note:  I would strongly suggest reading the guide on how to install these drivers correctly.  It's also important to note that in order for these drivers to load, driver signing enforcement is disabled - more on this can be found Here.

  • [SOLVED] Radeon HD 7690m support

I have an HP laptop with two GPU's, a radeon hd 6490m and a radeon hd 7690m. I have catalyst running fine with switchable graphics, the 6490m runs fine as expected but the 7690m shows up as 6000 series. I am aware that support for the 7000 series is not fully available and i was curious when i could expect support?

ok so i ran some tests. I was really using glxgears to compare performance. I get about 850 FPS with the 7690m and 2500 FPS with the 6490m so i assumed the 7690m wasn't working properly and i had read that it had bad support on linux, but after reading your post i decided to run more tests. Darkplaces running quake gets 70 FPS on the 6490m but it gets 140 FPS on the 7690m. Also quake4 gets 30 FPS on the 6490m and 50 on the 7690m. Does anyone know why glxgears is getting bad scores?

I grasp that after installing an updated driver for your graphics card you now get a blank or black screen on startup with no errors.
Here is a link to Computer Does not Start (Windows 7, Vista, XP).
Before trying a full recovery, you may wish to try a restore back to before you installed the update.  Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7)
If you are still having an issue and you have ruled out the hardware, then I would do a recovery back to factory
Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7)
During the recovery process, you will be presented the opportunity to backup your personal files to prevent data loss. If you have not done recently, I suggest you do one now.
Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows 7)

when i update the GUI (AMD Radeon HD 7690M XT) to the last update with {14-4-mobility-win7-win8-win8.1-64-dd-ccc-whql} from vr. (8.882.2.3000) to vr. (14.100.0.0) the catalyst colapsed and the display adaptor displayes only 2 resluotion (800x600) and (1024x768)
and some time with the orginal driver when i restore the win a message appers (amd display adaptor has sttoped working and worked again) and this happens randomly when i play high graphic games or when i brows the internet so plz help of the 2 issue

    Hi.
Now you'll want to recovery the oringinal drivers shipped with your Notebook. You can do this with the HP Recovery Manager: Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 7).
After that you may update to the newest that HP provides: HP Pavilion dv6-6c50se Entertainment Notebook PC Drivers. I do recommend updating both the Intel driver and the AMD driver (in that order).
Outside of that, if you're still having issues you "could" try the OEM drivers again, however this isn't recommended as they are not tested with your Notebook. If you do want to attempt this again, I would suggest updating the Intel driver first, then the AMD driver.
Let me know if this was able to help you.
    Thanks for your replies.

  • Radeon HD 7690m slow after suspend

Hi, i have a laptop with two GPU's, a radeon HD 6490m and a radeon HD 7690m. I'm using the catalyst driver and have the 7690m enabled. The problem is that after i suspend the laptop, performance with this GPU is decreased (framerate in darkplaces is less than half.) After a reboot the performance is back to normal. I do not have this problem with my 6490m. Any suggestions?

This has actually been solved for me. I don't know what did it but it think it was most likely because i was using an unofficial repository for catalyst, but had it at the bottom of my repositories list, so it installed an earlier version of catalyst-utils from the official repositories

  • Dv7-6c47cl recovery

I have a Pavillion dv7-6c47cl (P/N-A6X09UA) with Windows 7 Home premium. I installed a new hard drive. I ordered recovery media from HP. When I run the recovery media, it goes through all the discs, and then says recovery failed. In the details tab, I get three (3) erroe messages. They are:
(5:02:37.18) Chk ERR BB.CMD\Detect some error during PININST_BBV
    (5:02:37.20) Chk Err BB.CMD: check C:\system.sav\logs\Burn Boot Warn.log
    (5:02:37.20) or, check C:\system.sav\logs\Burn Boot Merge.log
I talked to HP. Tech had me run Memory and hard drive tests (both passed). He said there was a hardware problem, send it in and we will fix it for $350.00. If I install a different hard drive, The computer runs windows fine. Is my recovery media corrupt or is my computer defective?

But of course the chipset in your question is a VIA***! Meaning:
Go to your mobo's home page and update 4in1 drivers, and do it while in Safe Mode I suggest. By the way, it is a 9600 you have, isn't it, like me without the fan perhaps?

Thanks for your reply . I actually just now figured out what the problem was. While I had updated my BIOS, I had completely forgotten about updating my Chipset. I have the Intel 865PE chipset, so I went to Intel's Website and downloaded their "Chipset Software Installation Utility (INFINST.EXE)".
After the installation and a reboot, PRESTO!!! AGP Speed at 8x and Fast Write is on, woohoo.
Thanks again for your response , and I hope this post helps some people with a similar problem. Later all."

  • ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT  and early Mac Pro

I have been following the debate regarding the ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT and old Mac Pro with interest, however my problem is not quite the same. As all the correspondents are located in the USA. I would guess they are referring to Apple part no MB198Z/A. But ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT is sold in the UK by Apple as part no MB198, and I cannot be sure that it has an identical spec. Does one Know the Answer? Please respond if you know
    Thank You
For info Below is the response given by ATI
(The specifications are the same. The HD 2000 series cards runs on PCIE 1.1. You will need to confirm this with www.apple.com since the cards are specifically flashed by Apple. These cards may contain different video bios versions.)

    M.O.K.,
Based on the ATI information regarding PCIE 1.1, the card is the same and should work. I would call Apple when ordering to confirm.
I have the 2600 XT in my 2.66Ghz Mac Pro and it works very well. Much better than the OEM card.

In my HP Pavilion dv7 1110 ed is installed ADM mobility Radeon HD 3450 videographic card.
since 2 weeks ago i got all of a sudden a black screen.
When i looked over in google i find out that the most predictable problem must be at the chip on this video card.
So what i want to know is who can show me how i could replace this videocard from my laptop and what kind of better video card should i assemble.??

    You're very welcome, John.
I agree that most of us would not want to do that complex job ourselves.
My advice would be to purchase a new notebook at this point because even if an expert works on it, if they don't do it for free, it will cost a lot of $$ to repair.
I only use HP business notebooks, so I am not familiar with consumer models -- which one of those to recommend to you.
A low end business notebook with a 17" screen would be the HP ProBook 4740s.

  • ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 and S20 ??

    Hello,
Could somebody help me with this card ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 ?
I was wondering if we can put this card into S20 and if yes ..what exact we need to do this ? If not why ?
As far as i know there is different power socket on card ? So do we need some adapter or ??? to put this card
    into S20?
    Many thanks in advance

    Go to Solution.

lead_org is incorrect.   a converter cable on the S20 is not needed.   it already has two PCI 6 and PCI 6+2 power sockets, allowing it to run two cards requiring 6+8 pin power sockets such as the 4870x2 natively.(edit: typo... meant to say 6+2, not 6+1)

  • ATI Radeon HD 4870 card and HELP on installation

    Hi
I really tried to reserach this without being spoon fed but I need some advice
I have a "early" MAC pro 2008 and I'd like to upgarde the graphics card to a
ATI Radeon HD 4870 (purchased from APPLE)
Is it an easy install as far as configuration or is it "plug and play" so to speak
Sorry, I am sort of new to this and have never installed a card. I have installed memory and an additional hard drive in my MAC and from what I have read uprgading a graphics card is not that difficult. I looked at a tutorial and that was helpful
Does the Apple recognize it or do you have to install drivers? When I look at the Apple store it mentions nothing about "drivers" nad the purchase of the product
Okay,t hanks for your time and patience as I don't have alot of experience with this.
    David

Plug and play. Connect the auxillary power to card.
You need to be running 10.5.6 or later though.
Make sure you have a bootable backup, and if you use your DVD (many don't other than first time) you may want to look for a later DVD to come out at some point.
I think most of what you need want is here, it comes with power cable.

  • ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 and S10 and D10?

It will be better create new topic i think
We still have problems with this card. But now is this problem in S10 and D10 also.
The card installed make the Think Station in error , at boot two short bip and the video adapeter does't start.
After the BIOS upgrade and Installed the OS they get the folowing error on the Bios.
    http://img385.imageshack.us/img385/4825/problemu.jpg
This is probably caused by not sufficient power provided to the graphic card.  But when they provide all the Power  to the card
    they have the same problem.
    We already have one suggestion
Power supply isn't delivering sufficient power to GPU (ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2).
    Why?
Used power supply (Delta  DPS-650PB A rev.02F) does not support 8 port power connector for GPU. Parallelisms 12V power
    line will not work!
Afte exchanging power supply (Tagan TG1300-U33) system is running stable since few hours running Far Cry 2 (benchmark loop)
But if we exchange the power supply we lost warranty .
So we looking for another solution ?
Do you please have any suggestion?

Does S10 support this card with a 6 pin to 8 pin adapter like D10 ?
that depends on the total system load.   if by adding the 4870 X2 the limit of the PSU is exceeded, then it won't work.
is there a 6 to 8 pin adapter installed in the S10?   what are the hardware specs of your customer's S10?

Hi all, I'm experiencing an annoying problem with Arch. I'm using the xf86-video-ati driver, and in KDE 4.3.2, with compositing enabled, everytime I open a new window of any program and already having other window opened (for example, opening konsole and then opening chromium), X dies and goes to KDM login. Hi, I have extactly the same problem. Have you already rebuilt those patched mesa, libgl, and ati-dri?
This problem is really annoying, not least for coming so unexpected. But, as for me, I don't have time (and to be honest, any desire) to rebuild those with some cryptic patches. I just wonder, how such a big failure made into a mesa package?
[EDIT]: I reinstalled the KDE packages yesterday, I didn't encounter this problem in GNOME.
