Easiest way to make it prefer IGP is to let Xorg handle it, or at least I had no need for any extra configuration. My guess would be that you have leftovers in your config files when you installed Catalyst first, though it's just a hunch. If that's not the case, wiki has all needed configs. Again, chip which has output attached to it should be recognized automatically and preffered over the other one.
Yes it needs to prefer IGP because in muxless systems video output (screen) is attached to  IGP, not discrete card. What PRIME does essentially is offloading graphics from discrete card to integrated card's buffer as IGP is the one who has actual output.
As for performance, I am not a heavy gamer, or at least most of the time  I do not use anything that really requires extra graphics power from discrete card (occasionally give Xonotic a spin, and that's about it).  Therefor I cannot compare performance having no really relevant data. But what I can compare are temperatures, which in case of free driver are substantially higher than those with Catalyst. I'd really love to be able to use free driver on a day to day basis, but I'd rather switch discrete card off than having to listen the fan behaving like turbine all the time.
(P.S. I made a typo in previous message, it's not HD4000, but HD4600, quite a big difference in performance, will fix now.)

  • Adobe Premier Elements Video Editor will not open

I just installed version 12 of Adobe Premier Elements on my Windows 7 (64) system and am unable to open Video Editor.  I receive a message that the display driver is not current and a newer version would make the program run more efficiently.  After some time, the video editor stops trying to load.  I have verified all windows updates are loaded and that I have the most current Quicktime version.  I have also unloaded and reloaded Adobe Premier Elements but this issue continues to persist.  Please assist.

    1.     What is your video card's/chip's make and model?
AMD Radeon HD 8730M, Intel Graphics HD 4000
There have been discussions here about problems with Premiere Elements and a dual video card set up.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5747654
What happens if you disable the Intel Graphics HD 4000 and just work with the AMD video card?
This is one of John T. Smith's and Hunt's favorite subjects. So we should be hearing from them soon. Meanwhile their presence can be felt in the link that I have referenced on this subject of dual video cards.
    More later.

  • Premiere Pro CC crashing seconds after opening

Lately my Premiere Pro CC program has been crashing virtually as soon as I open it and displaying this message:
Sometimes the message is displayed before the program is fully opened and sometimes it doesn't happen until I try to perform a basic action, like moving a video in to the sequence, but I'm never able to go any further than that. I'm operating on Windows 8.1 and my computer's specs are below:
I'm not sure what further information is needed, but, graphics-wise, the computer runs an AMD Radeon HD 8730M and Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000. I've tried to update both of these (after reading other threads on this topic) but apparently both drivers are up to date. The issues started about two weeks ago but I've never had any issues with PP before that.
Any advice on how to rectify the problem would be greatly appreciated, and please let me know any further detail/info is needed. Thanks!

Have you tried clearing your preferences? Your cache files?
In Post #2 of the following thread, I list several causes of crashses on launch and provide instructions on where to look for a Windows log file that could prove instructive:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5950548?tstart=0#5950548
Updated to add: Post #2 in this thread might be on point given that you have dual graphics cards: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5944826#5944826.

  • Defragmentation on ssd in windows 7 yes or no

When i have installed a Samsung 850 evos ssd 500 gb, do i then have to make any changes in windows 7 home premium 64 bit, to ensure the best performance from the ssd? I have read a couple of different oppinions about the subject defragmentation, but what is your opinion about that, when using a installed ssd? Should it be on or off, and also are there any other changes that perhaps should be made?
    Best regards to everyone

Defragging of an SSD should never take place. If im not mistaken samsung also delivers software suited to ensure that the SSD runs at optimal performance with user input. If defragging is schedualed on your win7 machine and the SSD is your main drive, namely where your OS resides you should turn it off. I do beleive win7 is smart enough to realise that an SSD is installed but im not sure, as for win8.1 this is done automatically.

In order to get proper help or solution you should list the devices specs for example processor type, ssd or conventional hard drive type graphics card model example apu or discrete and how much ram is installed plus is it tailored for gaming, I will be honest with you consumer notebooks are not ment for gaming.
Do you have the latest updated software installed for the card? Is your internet connection being hampered by background tasks?
If what I just said doesn't make any sense to you then you should simply refresh your system install the game and see if the problem still persists other wise your devices is not ment to run game's.

  • GPU for After Effects

I need to know the certified GPU card for AE GPU-accelerate,because your System requirements about After Effects was not written clearly. And I still don't understand why the certified GPU for premiere and AE is not same??

CC 14 gives you the option of trying an unsupported card and it works just fine for the new Macs. I have two brand new ones with NVIDIA cards and they are working perfectly. The only published list is in the System Requirements.
The following NVIDIA GPUs are supported in After Effects CS6.
    Mac:
    GeForce GTX 285
    GeForce GT 650M*
    Quadro FX 4800
    Quadro 4000
It's a starting point, but with the move to supporting the Mercury playback engine it makes a lot more sense to look at the PPro System requirements when picking a card for AE.
From the PPro System Requirements page.

  • Troubles with HP TrueVision and CyberLink YouCam

I have a Pavilion dv6 with HP TrueVision HD. I just noticed recently that my webcam is not working. I followed the troubleshooting guide, but it is still not working. I reinstalled Cyberlink from the HP site, and it won't open. I instantly get a message saying there was an error and wants me to send a notification to CyberLink. My webcam does not show up in the Device Manager.  I cannot restore my computer to a point where it worked, because the only dates I have, I know it didn't work. Currently, I cannot just wipe my computer and reinstall everything because I cannot find the disk that came with my computer (I recently moved and I lost it somewhere in the move). Any advise on what to do would be greatly appreaciated. Thanks.

  • My Sound Blaster Zx issues

Other than the problems I am about to write, it has been an amazing gaming experience with all the games I've played. I've been using Sound Blasters since the ISA 64 (DOS era) times. I hope for the best for Creative.
Second of all, I am using the latest drivers from the website and after the list of problems you'll see my full system specs I copied from archive sorry for unnecessary details of the system.
Too much noise when I am using the headset it's very annoying too much to handle sometimes. Scrolling up and down the web pages make noise. I don't know what causes this issue. It may be that the shielding on the headset's cables is too bad (it may be since it's leaking the speakers to mic. People can hear what I am listening to even if the mic is disabled on the headset). There is the same noise when it's on speakers too but I cannot verify whether it's the cables that are picking the noise or the card. In order to solve this issue I connect the Sound Blaster Zx to the bottom of the motherboard where there is a PCIe 16x. This eliminates most of the noise but creates so many other problems I am not even going to talk about since Creative may not have designed this card's controller to work on PCIe 16x bus. All the problems exist when it's connected to 1x PCIe and 16x problems are not listed below.
Frequently upon restart, it asks me too choose the sound card for PRO STUDIO and Sound Blaster Speaker Setup separately. The names are followed by numbers. ex: 2 - Sound Blaster, 3 - Sound Blaster
Surround left is a lot louder than surround right speaker. I have to adjust it's dBs on the Speaker Level panel. First, I thought this could be an issue with the T6160 box, but I have a 5.1 surround headset and I feel the same to some degree when I'm using it. I play Battlefield 3 usually and it's very noticeable if you want to try.
CrystalVoice Focus doesn't work at all other than making the mic stereo. You can hear which direction sound is coming from, but it doesn't limit the angle. It still captures everything. I need it to capture only my voice not the surroundings outside the angle.
This is not a terrible issue: Sound Blaster does a fantastic job on canceling the sound coming from the speakers if that sound was processed digitally. Without any effect on the voice (mic) it fails to cancel the echo and creates a 2 - 3 degree loop (then it drops)
When all the five jacks are connected upon restart sometimes it doesn't stay with the last chosen settings (5.1 speakers), it automatically switches to headphones.
Sometimes channels get all mixed. Either have to restart or switch between headphones and speakers
Again, I'm posting full specs since I heard other peripherals may be the reason to some problems.

    Hello, KaziQ.
I can't say about headset, my microphone and headphones are separate and they are working fine.
I had the same problem with 2- sound blaster, 3- sound blaster, but it was on old buggy system, I made a fresh install of Windows 7, now I think this problem is gone. But it's smth related to Creative drivers.
I have no problems with volume of channels, seems all good, right-left, both rear, etc.
As for CrystalVoice- all the same. It's making microphone Stereo, somehow, I think, it should help with angles u are speaking into it, but i don't know how, coz this feature seems kinda useless to me. On other hand, I can hear myself and people can hear me perfectly, using this small mic that came with Z soundcard.
As for switching to headphones- yes, I had this issue on old system. Reinstalled from scratch Windows (formatted drive C) and drivers. Problem is gone for now.
And I never got mixed channels, never! Even on old system.
But I advise to do the same... try clean installation...
    And good luck. )

  • Video repeats irregularly

    Hello all,
I am using Premiere Pro cs6 and my system specs are:
    AMD Phenom II X6 1090T 3.8Ghz
    Corsair H70 liquid CPU Cooler
    Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 AM3+ Motherboard
    16GB (4x4GB) Kingston HyperX 1600 MHz RAM ddr3
    Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 1GB
    Samsung 840 120GB SSD
Western Digital 1TB Caviar black 7200 rpm 64MB cache HDD
When i put a clip into the timeline and do nothing to it, it starts to do this stutter replay thing irregularly, but not on every clip. this stutter appears when rendered. It does not have to do with the recording as when i play the recording through VLC it plays smoothly with no problems. I have uploaded a render to show the problem. as you can see the video bumps back a few seconds and plays itself again. I have simply placed the clip in the timeline and pressed render.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIwFNVpB3zU&feature=youtu.be
any ideas on to what the issue could be caused by?

So as announced i put every video on 2 Sheets, the first a few minutes, the second one only a view frames long.
By testing the actions on "leaving the sheet"several times they seam to work well now. What keeps unclear is, if the navigation works because the part of the video is only a few frames long or if the second parts of the videos in the second sheets still repeat from time to time.
So emergency solution is found, but ideas about fixing this without splitting videos are still welcome.

  • New laptop: Fuzzy, distorted noise with slowdown

    Hi,
I've bought an HP Envy 17-j141na Laptop, Intel Core i7, 12GB RAM, 1TB, 17.3", Silver with Windows 8.
When playing games (Civilization V, Minecraft, Banished) sometimes a loud, fuzzy, distorted noise will come from the speakers and the gameplay will slow considerably. This has happened in all three games. It has occured both with the out-of-the-box (unupdated) computer and has continued after doing a Minimized Image Recovery (a clean re-install of Windows from the Hard Disk Recovery) and then fully updating with Windows Update, HP update, and updating the latest graphics drivers direct from Nvidia.
What might be causing this issue? Might it be faulty hardware? The laptop was only bought two and a half weeks ago.
    Thanks in advance.

  • HP CoolSense 1.0

    Hello,
please, somebody, anybody... can you upload HP CoolSense 1.0 for me ? Windows 7, 64 bit. Coolsense 2.0 onwards is useless and I NEED the QUIETEST mode back !
    thanks a lot.

Sir I do apologize for not being clear enough but and i think you didnt read through that sight properly so I think this way should be easier:
HP CoolSense 1.0 came as part of the HP Support Assistant (also known as HP Thermal Assistant) software on some Windows 7 computers. Later, it was removed from HP Support Assistant version 7 through an automatic update to HP Support Assistant software. If your computer still has HP CoolSense 1.0 as part of HP Support Assistant, you can use these steps for configuration. However, it is recommended to update HPSA to the latest version and then install the latest version of HP CoolSense to bring your computer up to date.
HP CoolSense 1.0 works on supported models and is installed as part of HP Support Assistant. It is not possible to install HP CoolSense 1.0 separately.
HP CoolSense 1.0 (HP Thermal Assistant) was designed to run as part of earlier versions of HP Support Assistant. After updating to later versions of HP Support Assistant, HP CoolSense 1.0 may stop working.
Please take note to the embolded sections and underlined sentences to get a better grasp the serverity of your request. Heck maybe it is possible but you might have to go through a tech. for that to happen.

  • HP 3D DriveGuard accelerometer

Just bought a HP 11-N038CA. If I go to hand to someone or set it it down with oe hand it shuts down the hard drive. Is there a way to shut off the accelerometer to not do this? Very annoying. I have 2 other laptops without it and have never dropped them or needed such a program.
    Thanks
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Well you could just disable it at the device manager i guess, just to make sure you understand that doing so elevates the risk percentage factor of damage being cause to the harddrive and dont forget if you are using a mechanical hdd that the disks in there are always spinning lifting the laptop at an angel handing it over to someone cuases disturbances/schocks to the the devices when you do, even thoe most hdd are being made to resist shock you can never be to carefull probably you are but what about the other guy your handing device over to? In other words disable at your own risk and you can never be too carefull.
    good luck.
Totally forgot to mention if it doesnt appear in the device manager then I beleive you can simply unistall it via program features in windows or via HpSA also depending on if your using a  SSD as your primary.
