[Radeon] MSI ATI Radeon x800xl 256MB PCIe
Has anyone else had issues with this card crashing??? It's been happening to me quite a bit. I've heard it's possibly the PSU, but I don't think that's the case here. I'm using the Antec 550 True Control 2 (24pin connector, 19A on each +12V rail) for the MSI K8N Neo4 Plat SLI board.
Thoughts/Ideas?
Thanx in advance!

Hi Deathstalker,
I initially was just curious if anyone else was experiencing the same thing, just to get a dialogue going. Generally speaking, it's very hard to gauge the knowledge of people on a forum, so starting slow is just a route I prefer to go rather than diving in and potentially making things worse from bad advice. I'm a software engineer myself, and am familiar with building systems and the process of troubleshooting, though this is my first build in quite some time. Patience is a virtue! :-)
Soo, to answer some of your questions, let me give you a brief rundown on what I've done to date:
Just so we have the same terminology, when I say "crash", I mean ATI performs a soft recovery of the card. I'm assuming you know what that means, but if not, it's simply ATI resetting the card because it wouldn't respond, and, once recovered, puts my original settings back. Thus no longer necessitating a hard reset of the PC.
I originally installed the MSI driver for this board. Upon playing the Splinter Cell: Pandora game that came with the package, it usually randomly crashes 1-3 times per hour while playing this game. Sometimes I'll get lucky and it won't crash at all.
Next I tried installed the updated Catalyst drivers from ATI. The PC didn't like this at all. It crashed while not in use, and would reset the PC multiple times. At one, resetting is all it did. When I was finally able to enter windows again, XP was nice enough to tell me it recovered from a serious error. I sent the status report to Microsoft, and the webpage that the report brought me to told me a thread on the graphics device driver was not responding.
I was happy to see this error, simply cause I was pretty sure this was no longer a heating problem. After this, I completely wiped the system of the ATI driver, and reinstalled the MSI driver. Since then, I've had no resets. I have not played Pandora again to see if the GPU crashes again. I plan on doing that soon, though my schedule tends to be very hectic.
I also recently installed the v3.4 BIOS for my mobo to get the Venice core support.
As for the IRQs, I'll have to get that later, as I'm at work right now. However, I'd be surprised to find conflicts there. The wireless card could be interesting. I know that Linksys and Microsoft's wireless adaptors tend to fight for control (MS usually wins, big surprise!). I can certianly disable the device while playing Pandora and see if that improves the situation, if I find I'm still crashing.
I'll keep you updated. Again, thanx for your response!

Radeon X1900 256MB PCIe (256MB?)
Hi Gang
I've made two Video Card upgrades in the past two weeks. The first card was a used Flashed nVidia GT7800 PCIe 256MB. It worked just fine.
Then a freind here on the forum sold me his almost-new Original ATI X1900 G5 Mac Edtion PCIe. It came with all the original documentation, discs, cables etc. Very Nice
So I figured, what the heck, perhaps I should stick with an original G5 Mac Edtion card. It installed nicely, and looks great. (Maybe I can sell the nVidia GT7800 on Ebay?)
Anyway, I noticed when I went into the System Profiler, the new ATI is recognized has only having 128MB? This was a little puzzling since the GT7800 came up (as it should with 256MB).
And ideas?
Thanx
MikeHi Steve - how ya doin?
I was just going to email you about this. And thank you to hatter and direwolf.
I got several helpful emails from Eric about the problem. Apparently he had the same problem. He provided me with this link from ATI; http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/MacX1900G5updater.aspx - which I believe addresses the problem of the wrong VRAM data being displayed in the system profiler.
"Release Notes for Mac OS X - Apple System Profiler reports incorrect VRAM size"
Steve, I was going to ask you, as I my have mentioned; I thought it was a good idea to get ahold of one of the last 'Real McCoys', (this X1900), with all the original packaging etc. The other used flashed card that I've been using is an nVidia GT 7800. I've read where the X1900 performed a bit better. Once I correct the VRAM problem, maybe I'll sell the flashed GT 7800 on Ebay.
Thanx

MSI Ati Radeon HD4850 512 Mb. & AMD Radeon HD6850 1GB GDD5 CrossFireX Possible?
Hello everyone! In this new topic, I'll try to capture a doubt that I have a few weeks ago! The question is this, I have a video card MSI ATI Radeon HD4850 512MB and XFX Ati Radeon 6850 1GB GDDR5, and my question is whether these two plates can be joined to form a CrossFireX, ie the two plates running in simultaneously. I had the opportunity to read in other forums, there are people who form a CrossFireX, with the video card that comes in the motherboard, ie onboard plate ... I can say? From already, thank you very much!
this probably will not work, the card is too old
http://sites.amd.com/PublishingImages/Public/Graphic_Illustrations/WebBannerJPEG/AMD_CrossfireX_Chart_1618W.jpg
don't even see any 4xxx in the list -
If anybody have msi ati radeon x1800 gto please upload your original bios!
Quote
A Vid Card is not a Mobo, there is little to be gained on a Vid Card by Modding or Flashing the BIOS for any reason. Do what BK said.
Well, that's not true as you can gain a lot by modding a vid card by bios if you know what you're doing of course....
hammer_ns, if MSI tech can't help you try with a different manufacturers bios as those x1800GTO's are all just standard design. If you need one pm me. -
P-2120t + MSI ATI Radeon HD6450 1 GB?
P-2120t
Win7 Home 64
Currently have standard on-board graphics ...wondering if adding a MSI ATI Radeon HD6450 1 GB card will improve the video in any significant way. Can pick one up for $32.
Thx.Such a Radeon HD 6450 is offered as an upgrade for your pc:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03188862&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=5193517
But OEM-cards can differ in the specs from marketplace cards, AMD says that the card requires 400W psu:
http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/amd-radeon-hd-6000/hd-6450/Pages/amd-radeon-hd-6450-...
You have to try ... maybe you have to upgrade psu too.

MSI Ati Radeon HD4850 512MB CrossFireX
Hi all! My name is Mark, and I've made a topic about how to make RAID 5 on a MSI Platinum DKA790GX
I have a new problem, a few days ago, acquired another HD4850 512MB MSI Radeon exactly equal to that already had, to fomar a CrossFireX, the thing is that this all wrong, and not to do ... I explain how procedures
first of all, connect the new video card to see if it worked and if it works perfect, then connect the 2 video cards to the motherboard, and connect the 2 bridges CrossFireX then lit the computer, and perfect, I noticed dispostivos administrator, and the 2 plates are recognized each other, so here we go perfect, then I went to AMD Vision Engine Control Center, to enable CrossFireX and I went out no option, nothing at all to enable CrossFireX I set if 2 plates were activated, and are disabled, the primary adapter is active, but the other says Disabled Adapter, and do not understand that in the device manager are the two ... Well, I started aa look everywhere solutions and had not, they said that previous drivers again, what I did, but none worked, none tell me the option for CrossFireX ... try using a single CrossFireX bridge but does not work, update the BIOS of my motherboard is a MSI DKA790GX Platinum, and I do not see any option to enable CrossFireX, uninstall video card drivers, use Driver Sweeper to remove the root ATI drivers, and install new ones, and try the old and I do not work ... and do not know what else people did it all, yesterday was Saturday from 2 pm until 1 am and I still can not solve the problem, I need help getting to ride these two video cards, not how , probe around as you can see, and I can not think of anything more!!!
please if anyone can help me, I would be grateful now!
My PC specifications:
Motherboard: MSI DKA790GX Platinum, GPU's: MSI ATI Radeon HD4850 512MB x2, RAM: 4GB RAM Dual-Channel Kingston, CPU: AMD Phenom x3 8650, Power Supply: Cooler Master 750W Plus, x2 Samsung 500GB Hard Disk x2 Western Digital 500GB Hard Disk , RAID 5 System MountedWell folks, I have all things settled, the final version I have served for the AMD Vision Engine Control Center was the 11.12 version of the Radeon drivers, which let me install all your applications, also I did a change in Bios, I had updated to version 1.G0 and now go to 1.20 which is older, but has no more errors! so here I have all walked to perfection, with gta 4 walk at 60 fps, and later the only thing I need is to buy 4 more GB of RAM, and RAID 5 disk partition I have for windows 7 64 bit, to have all optimized to 64 bits, since all the components of my pc are for use at full 64-bit, ie, would travel faster, for example, more FPS in games!
although I had no answer, and I had about 20 visits, no matter, thank you xD Like
I send greetings to all from Argentina!
Goodbye!

[Radeon] ATI Radeon X800XL - AGP
I have a Power Spec 8960
AMD 64 3400+
Windows XP Home
1 GB DDR333 SDRAM
250 GB Hard Drive
Via S3 K8M800 Unicrome Video Driver
I upgraded Video Card, Sound Card and Power Supply:
Video: ATI Radeon X800XL AGP
Sound: Sound Blaster XFi
Power: True Blue 2.0 (480 v.)
Since the video card upgrade I have had so many crashes, screen black outs and random restarts. All with new and interesting messages like:
Your computer has recovered from a serious error. or
VPU recovery. Restart for new video settings.
and sometimes my PC will just short out no beeps.
I have formated my hard drive and reinstalled all components, more than once. I have rolled back the drivers. I have tried the system without the new video card and everything seems fine.
I should say that the system can run fine for an hour and then bam! It seems like it happens when 3D graphics come into play.
Please any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.Did you completely remove the old video card drivers?I would try this.download driver cleaner----http://www.drivercleaner.net/
Download the Omega Drivers-http://www.omegadrivers.net/--Radeon Omega Drivers 2.6.83 (Catalyst 5.11)
Go to add/remove programs.Remove the catalyst control center, dont restart.Remove the Video Card driver.Restart in safe mode. Then run the driver cleaner for ATI.Restart in normal mode.Install the omega drivers.Set everything up and then see what happens.I had poor performance with the ATI drivers.I used the omega drivers and it was like night and day especially using open-gl. -
Hi!
I am very curious if MSI is planning to manufacture ATi based cards...
Asus did it and now they manufacture nVidia and ATi in the same time...
I think it's a good move because buyers will have a better choice... some like nVidia, some don't... but they all love MSI... so those who hate nVidia can just buy MSI ATi... I think it would be great...
What do you guys think?not as far as im aware they were going to a while back and then changed their minds
as far as im aware they did built some ati cards for mendion and thats been it
mendion are a large german pc maker ,they were however not for sale seperate -

G5 Dual 2.3 (Early April 2005) with Radeon 9650XT (256mb) Driver Question
My system is working fine. Out of curiosity I glanced at the ATI dowloads and saw that the 9650xt (Radeon) for Mac has a driver with a newer date than my computer. As a new Mac user I want to ask: do most of you leave it alone unless you have a problem? Thank you.
G5 Dual 2.3 (Early April 2005) with Radeon 9650XT (256mb) Mac OS X (10.4.9) Have never updated a driver on a Mac before.ATI Support would not comment either so I will contact Apple Support.

OS win 64 bit
i installed Nvidia 64 bit drivers but i still run at 32 bit anyone now how to fix plz ??Filip,
Set your Desktop to 16bit color. There is nothing on your desktop in 32 bit color. All it does is slow your comp down. Remember that when you play a game your comp is still rendering your desktop in the background, and 32bit color uses more CPU cycles then 16bit color.
Richard
P.S. The color setting of your desktop has nothing to do with the color settings of your game. -
MSI ATI RX 9600XT saying it has an rv350 chipset
I Have an MSI ATI RX 9600XT
in the information report from tray tools it says
Display adapter Radeon 9600XT (4152)
Core Name RV350
The GPU speed is 500mhz so it must be a RV360
Am i losing performance or functionality due to this?Hi, if you want you can use Everest home edition to check everything related yo your vid card. And I guess your benchmark is ok, remeber 3D mark 03 test CPU too, and it uses and overall, if your CPU is not really powerfull your Benchmark have to be low compared with other systems with the same vid card and fasters CPU's.
And I guess that this is related to the company which produced the vid card.
Here you can see what I'm telling you, each company can use one chip or other, but not in the case of 9600XT which in your case must be RV 360 :
Radeon 9600: RV350/RV360
AIW Radeon 9600: RV350/RV360
Radeon 9600 Pro: RV350/RV360
AIW Radeon 9600 Pro: RV350/RV360
Radeon 9600XT: RV360
AIW Radeon 9600XT: RV360
About the GPU speed you're card is fine, 500 MHz is the right frequency for XT models, whereas Radeon 9600 Pro is only 400 MHz, or Radeon 9600 is 325 MHz.
Maybe Everest would give you the answer. Or if you want to see which one is, take the Heatsink off and check the Chip, off course remember to apply some thermal grease after checking.
Best regards
