Radeon x1600 card ram bad

My computer has had some unpredictable display freezes. TechTool Deluxe says the VRAM tests failed.
Is there any replacement for the video card on this iMac? Or do I can I just get new VRAM to put on the card?

Hi Timothy,
both the ATI graphics chip and the VRAM are soldered onto the logic board and therefor not replaceable.
Sorry
Stefan

  • Will my ATI Radeon x1600 graphics card support Final Cut Express?

In the fall I plan to attend Cincinnati State, and major in AVP (Audio Video Production), and I wanted to get a head start by purchasing the program Final Cut Express. I checked the system specifications, and apparently I need an AGP graphics card. The problem is I have no idea whether or not my ATI Radeon x1600 card will be able to run the program or not. Thank you for your feedback!
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I'm just not sure what is going on - that error is what Mac Mini's and others with onboard video have when they try to run FCE/FCP, and there is a workaround mentioned here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1609878
Of course, your MBP has the ATI card, not onboard video.
I did a clean install of FCE 3 HD ( PPC ) and then upgraded immediately to FCE 3.5 HD ( Universal ) and have experienced no problems with it.

  • ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics card Windows 8 driver missing

I just installed Windows 8 Enterprise Trial version on HP nx9420 laptop (2GHz dual core prosessor, 4gb memory, ATI Motility Radeon X1600 graphics card with 256mb own memory, 1680x1050 native display resolution) on second partition, side by side with existing
    Windows 7.
Installation succeeded perfect, except Windows 8 couldn't install, nor did find from Windows Update display driver for ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics card. Only Microsoft generic display driver was installed and it offered maximum 1450x800 resolution,
so not laptops native 1680x1050 screen resolution.
Windows 7 can install working ATI driver right from Windows Update for that graphics card (version 8.561.0.0 dated 1.12.2008).
Laptop manufacturer HP has latest, old driver for Vista (version 8.453.0.0 dated 22.1.2008), so I installed that, selecting compatibility mode Vista with setup-program in Windows 8. That installed, but seems to have some problems, telling of missing library,
maybe with some ATI extra diplay manager software and C++ 2005 library, that it installed.
MY QUESTION: Is there some problems with Windows 8 and that ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics card? Why isn't the Windows 7 -version of ATI mobility radeon X1600 display driver available in Windows Update for Windows 8 too?

Thank you all of your thanks.
I can confirm that this solution works with Windows 10 Technology/Insider preview too. And surely works with forthcoming Windows RTM too.
Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 TP work both like a charm with nearly 10 years old HP Compaq nx9420 laptop, with Intel Core 2 Duo and ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 display adapter. Nice co-operation of "old" hardware and very Modern Windows OS.
    So in brief:
If you have laptop with ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 or other X1000-series display adapter and
you want to install Windows 8, 8.1 or 10, do this:
    0) First just install Windows 8.x/10. It will install Microsoft Generic display driver, but that doesn't support full resolution of ATI Mobility Radeon X1000 -series - for example it may show maximum 1400x1050 -resolution, thus your laptop display and Radeon
X1000 may support native 1650x1050, but you can't obtain that resolution with that Microsoft generic driver. So you need ATI-driver and you can get it this way:
    1) With Internet Explorer (this doesn't work with other browsers) go to
    Microsoft Update -catalog:   http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/
    2) Search "ATI Mobility Radeon X1600"
      (or X1300, X1800 etc)
    3) Sort search results by date (last update -column), latest on top. You will see drivers for Windows 7
    - they will work with Windows 8.x and 10 too. There is certainly two of them; other is 32 bit only and other is 64 bit dirver.
    4) Select proper driver version of them, according your Windows 32 or 64 bit, so click Add
    5) At top-right click Show basket and then download those driver packages to your computer. They are cab-file
    -packages.
    6) Obtain 7-zip -utility, install it and with it unpack that cab-driver package on folder with its package-name.
    7) On start of taskbar, right mouse button click Windows-Start and then select Hardware management. On
Hardware management -window open Display adapter -section, then mouse right click Microsoft adapter and select Update driver. Then on next window, select search driver from computer.
    8) Browse on folder, where you unpacked ATI driver (on stage 6 earlier) and select Next ... that updates
driver, on the go and you don't need even to reboot Windows.
    9) Now you have proper ATI Mobility Radeon -driver in use. It  surely sets automatically resolution
according your laptop screen (so recommended native resolution of screen panel) or you can select that on diplay settings.
Extra: For that Windows 8.x/10 boot works fine too, do this too:
Seems that Windows 8.x (and Windows 10 too), with their hybrid-shutdown -functionality, require some support of the display adapter, that ATI Radeon Mobility x1000 -series don't have.
So the solution is to disable that Windows 8.x (or Windows 10) hybrid boot -functionality (that is quicker boot) and to use "normal boot".
You can fix that this way:
    - at end of Taskbar click battery/power icon and select Power settings
    - navigate to power and sleep settings
    - either at bottom of those settings, or in Win10 more power settings, select power buttons functionality/settings (so what power button, sleep button or closing laptop screen does)
    - at bottom of those settings is shutdown options (or with similar name). uncheck "use quick boot" -settings (for to uncheck that you may need to click first upper "changing disabled settings" (or similar name) at top or windows)
(I recommend to check Hibernate at the same time too, because that is usefull)
    - then Save settings and reboot Windows and you have got rid of that problem that Windows 8.x/10 don't show Lock screen, now it does.
Boot takes just a little longer, so practically no problem. And if you need quicker boot with laptop, use Hibernate-state, so don't shut down your laptop, but instead put it into Hibernate-state (that is better than Sleep mode, because Hibernate-mode doesn't
    consume battery-power, like Sleep-mode does)

  • [SOLVED] KDE 4.3 Composite with ATI Radeon X1600 Series

I'm new to Archlinux (and don't have too much experience on Linux) and searched everywhere in this forum and on Google but couldn't find out how to solve my problem.
I'm using Archlinux x86_64... my video card is an ATI Radeon X1650 Pro (pretty old) and I can't enable Composite on KDE 4.3 (not KDEMod) to enable transparency and some animation, using OpenGL (with XRender it works, but it also gets extremely slow...)

  • Re-try: Partitioned '08 iMac, Win7, Radeon X1600, help with upgrading driver?

I've been trying to use information found on other threads to update my driver but have had no success; my software and cpu are somewhat older than what I've been reading about. So.... I'm going to try this again before taking the thing to the local fixit shop (I don't want to do that...) And hopefully if there's someone in the same jam out there a search will bring them to this thread.
Is there anyone out there that can give me a simple 'do this, do this, do this, and do this' for my particular setup? I've used DriverSweeper prior to attempting installs, and Mobility Modder to get around AMD's Catalyst installer problems re:bootcamp.
I just wanna play my stupid GAMES, wah!
Here's part of my latest dxdiag:

I love my Mac. But I love my Windows-only games.

The first part of your mcelog (the bit about " failed to prefill DIMM database from DMI data") strongly suggest one of the new RAM chips is defective. Start by simply putting the old one back in place and seeing if that helps. If it does, exchange the new faulty one with the seller for one that works. However, since you say yourself you aren't very tech savvy, it may be the case that you've simply purchased a RAM chip that is not compatible with your motherboard (although if both of the new chips are identical and the first one works, that may not be so).
When deciding to upgrade all the most vital hardware components of a machine, it's best to do it one piece at a time, and reconfigure the operating system to account for the new hardware. Uninstall old drivers, install new ones, change any personal settings related to the old hardware, reboot, make sure everything's fine and then repeat the process for every other new piece of hardware. Replacing everything at once without ensuring it will all work together increases the chances problems like this immensely---the problem itself may be very simple, but you've undertaken so many changes in such a short time that finding out what the problem is in the first place can be very complicated.

    here is the link I tried: [link|http://it.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=IT&selCategory =2&selFamily=2&selSeries=153&selProduct=624&selSho rtMod=null&language=24&selOS=10&selType=11&yearupl oad=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=use rMachines&search=&action=search&macId=1&country=19 &selectedLanguage=24&type=11&page=1&ID=56770&OSID= 10&driverLanguage=42]

I have decided to try again installing the driver in toshiba website before trying omega ones..maybe i did something wrong in the first attempt..
well..i have some questions and hope u help me to understand..
1- in device manager: the display driver version is 8.204.0.0 while in Dxdiag, the driver file is ati2dvag.dll and the version is 6.14.0010.6587
my question is how the version is not same?
2- i want u help me to make sure i am trying to install the correct driver..my doubt comes from the file, it seems to be from germany because when i downloaded it it says downloading from toshiba-tro.de while my laptop is from italy and i dont want that language creates any problem in function of my video card...
the driver name is: display-20070913133331.zip and the version of this driver is: 8.292-038742C...here is the link:
    [driver|http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory =2&selFamily=2&selSeries=153&selProduct=624&selSho rtMod=444&language=24&selOS=10&selType=11&yearuplo ad=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=allM achines&search=&action=search&macId=&country=all&s electedLanguage=24&type=11&page=1&ID=56770&OSID=10 &driverLanguage=42]
3- I extracted this file to a folder but there is no a file of how install to help me do it in correct way...In the main folder I see 2 setup files:
one is called: setup.exe (ati cim application launcher module version 6.14.10.1005) and the other is called: issetup.exe (installshield setup launcher)
moreover there are 4 subfolders in this folder (ace, bin, dotnet, driver): In the ace subfolder there is another setup.exe file and in the driver subfolder there is another setup.exe file (file version is 6.11.100.1300)
so my question is which one should be used for installation?
4- I know it is better uninstalling the existing driver before installing the new one..my question is: I have 2 things in control panel add remove:
    -catalyst control center version 1.2.2180.38582
and ati display driver version 8.204-051220a1-029876C-Toshiba
do i have to remove both catalyst control center and the ati display driver listed in add remove programs? or do i have to remove the ati display driver only?
5- the driver uninstallation: how to do it: by add remove programs? or by uninstall driver in device manager?
6- is it better to install it in safe mode?
7- how install it? by clicking directly on setup.exe in extracted folder or by going to device manager and install driver by pointing it to extracting folder?
8- dont forget plz to tell me how to backup only the display driver so that i can restore it (in case the restore point will not make me able to restore the display driver only)
Sorry for all these questions and thanks in advance for ur support

  • ATI Radeon X1600 GPU problem

I purchased a MacBook Pro with an ATI Radeon X1600 GPU in 2006. Several weeks ago the GPU failed and I was advised that a replacement logic board was needed and this would cost upwards of £500 by various Apple authorised repair centres that I contacted.
The system is not worth £500 in working condition.
It appears that I am not the only one that has found this issue, long after the warranty on the system had expired. In addition a number of people have began on online petition to raise awareness of the situation.
Several months ago a more recent MacBook Pro (circa 2008) with an NVIDIA GPU failed and I was able to have the logic board replaced for free as this was a known fault, even though my system was out of warranty.
I was very annoyed to find that the hardware defect in ATI GPU's has not resulted in the same replacement program. I therefore had to pay an engineer to attempt to fix the system through a component level repair, which failed. My 4 year old system that cost me a lot of money is now dead.
I expected a lot more longevity from this system, and I am sorely disappointed. I am feeling a little ripped off.
    I am the current of owner of a iPhone 4 (2010), MacBook Pro 13" (2010), iMac (2010), iPhone 3G (2008), MacBook Pro 15" (2008) and one dead MacBook Pro 15" (2006).
As you can see I have spent a lot of money on Apple products and accessories, My very first purchase has now died due to ATI GPU failure and I have already replaced a logic board on a 2008 system due to an NVIDIA GPU failure.
I have never hesitated to recommend Apple products before, until now!
I'd like Apple to acknowledge this issue and offer customers with the faulty hardware replacement logic boards, I'd expect Apple to recover this cost from ATI who manufactured the faulty hardware.
I hope that this post serves to raise awareness of the issue and prompts an appropriate response.
    Thanks for reading.
    Dave.

Your instructions basically work because you're deleting the ATI display drivers, so OS X defaults to no hardware acceleration. In the very long "display anomalies" thread to which you linked, this seems to be related as a pretty common solution.
This is not a solution IMO. It's basically telling your computer not to use the built-in video card for much more than a frame buffer. Why is this a bad thing? Well, while it eliminates the anomalies and inevitable freezing, it also makes your computer unusable for anything requiring hardware acceleration (which is a lot of things these days, including 3d games and HD video playback, though the latter can still work albeit more slowly).
You claim that the problem is due to bugs in the ATI driver, but there are two issues with that theory: 1. the problem also happens under Windows via Boot Camp, using several different versions of ATI's Catalyst drivers that support the R500 family (which the X1600 is a member of); and 2. these sorts of anomalies tend to be usually indicative of hardware failure. For example, the nvidia 8800 series famously had similar issues (more and more graphical anomalies followed by eventual lock-ups), which were ultimately caused by hardware failure relating from many heat cycles.
In this case, the thing that seems closest to the truth to me came in a forum post over at the WoW forums (see the last post, by member "Flloyd"):
    Flloyd's post
(Linking to the Google cache because the original seems to have been deleted.)
    Quoting the relevant part here:
"There has been a lot of discussion an Apple forums and other forums about these issues with the Core Duo (not Core 2 Duo) version 1.1 MBPs with the x1600 GPU. The general consensus is that it is definitely a hardware problem and someone mentioned that Apple knows internally that it is an issue with the solder connection between BGA packages and the main board. These machines came out right around when manufacturers were just starting to become ROHS compliant, (the standard that forbids the use of solder containing lead in electronics,) and so it is not surprising to me, (having dealt with some similar issues from the point of view of the manufacturer at work,) that these problems are happening. The lead-free solder is much more brittle than the old kind and solder joints that crack after many thermal cycles are a common problem that everyone trying to use the lead-free solder has had to confront. That being said, Apple still needs to fix this, because anyone who bought one of these would have had no expectation of this kind of failure and many would have bought something else if they knew this was a possibility."
Thus, the little BGA solder balls become worse over time, and when heated enough (i.e. when the GPU load becomes great enough for long enough, which is when people usually report the problems to occur at first), may start to get a bad connection to the logic board, as a result of thermal expansion or lower conductivity or a combination of things.
Now, I'm not 100% sure that this is the answer, but it seems most plausible to me. The other common explanation for this is that the thermal paste is applied unevenly on the GPU, or that the thermal paste gets old. However, while people report getting fewer anomalies after re-applying thermal paste, the problems usually stick around and once again start to get worse over time. My theory here is that while re-applying thermal paste helps with lowering GPU temps and lowering the frequency of the symptoms, it doesn't solve the underlying issue. You can get the same effect (lower GPU temps) by downloading and using the Fan Control preference pane or downloading and using the smcFanControl application to increase fan speed. Like re-applying thermal paste, this would decrease GPU temps (and thus incidence of graphical anomalies and eventual lock-ups), but not eliminate the problem.
It's sad that Apple doesn't (and likely won't) acknowledge this problem as a hardware defect. As far as I know, the issue manifests itself only after several years of use, which is when warranty (even AppleCare) has run out. Those who are lucky enough to have had the Macbook under warranty when symptoms first appeared just had their logic boards replaced for free, and later reported the same problems appearing after a few years with the new logic boards (which predictably contained the same hardware flaw). As I've said before, I'm not 100% confident in this particular explanation, but I am 100% confident that it's a hardware issue.
So nowadays, people generally have the choice of either buying a new laptop or forking over $300-600 for a new or used logic board to extend the life of the Macbook for a few more years, which would inevitably fail again. There is hope though: the aforementioned nvidia cards (the GeForce 8800 series) with the hardware flaw were eventually recalled and replaced for free, but a lot of people have reported resurrecting their dead cards using this unorthodox method:
    http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1421792
    http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1553073
    http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1470144
The same method also worked for people with different failing cards (even built-in laptop GPUs, such as we are talking about here), and not just the GeForce 8800 series. I might try this out in a week or so and see if it works for me and report back. I just don't know if it's worth it -- this is my primary work laptop and I can't afford to have to mess around with getting a new one in the middle of the school year if it dies in the process. Not to mention the fact that while the problem certainly is annoying, since I have to save my work every few minutes in anticipation of the computer locking up, it's certainly not critical.

  • Help With boot camp installing on Mac Pro with a ATi Radeon x1900 card

I go throw the boot camp setup with setting my drive and burning the cd drives from mac os... So when I re start the computer and start installing.. My video card is not working... The screen is all chopped and bars running every were, so I can see what Im doing to install vista ... So how do I change this is their some upgrade with the video card and how do I do that
    Im using this setup
    I have a mac pro 3.0 8 core
    ati radeon x1600
    using boot camp 1.3
    have vista untilamte
    Thank You

I don't use Bootcamp/Parallels/Windows but I saw in the Bootcamp forums that someone solved this issue by going to the ATI site and downloading and installing the X1900 drivers for Windows (http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html). They had to do this while in Windows (which was difficult) do to the garbled screen but managed to suceed. Not sure why they didn't download the trial version of Parallels and do the same thing with an ungarbled screen.

  • Is the latest version of FCP studio compatible with Radeon X1600 graphics..

I read under the requirements that the latest version of FCP studio is not compatible with "integrated graphics cards"... what does that mean to me with an iMac that has a Radeon X1600 with 128MB and a bus type PCIe? Will it work?
    Thanks!

Final Cut Studio 2 (with FCP 6) runs just fine on my 2.0 GHz 20" iMac CD, which has a 128 MB ATI Radeon X1600 with an external display (1280x1024) connected via DVI.

  • Compiz was working but not anymore :( RADEON X1600

hi...im an arch novice.  I just switched from ubuntu over the weekend and im trying to get compiz fusion to work correctly with my Radeon X1600 graphics card. I installed latest ati-dri package using pacman and i eventually got compiz running with the following command...
    LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 INTEL_BATCH=1 compiz --replace --indirect-rendering --sm-disable ccp &
but I suspected that my system wasn't taking full advantage of my card so i tried to install the catalyst driver and catalyst-utls from the AUR. (not knowing that they didnt support my card)
so i removed the catalyst packages and reinstalled ati-dri and libgl
now when i execute the command posted above i get a white screen.
    and when i execute
    compiz --replace &
    i get a white screen.
    any ideas?

  • Radeon x1600 for gaming.

I recently installed Warcraft 3 on my MBP, my graphics card is a ATI Radeon x1600 and when I go to play the game the screen goes black then goes back to the desktop and tells me that Warcraft 3 closed. I checked out the support and it said something about not being able to support the menu face, and to maybe download update for Video Card BIOS and I went to ATI and there is nothing for x1600. There is 800 and the rest are about x1900. What can I do to fix my problem so I can play Warcraft 3.

Have you tried to download the universal patch for Warcraft III? I had the same problem with my MacMini before the patch came out.

  • Aperture 3, Snow Leopard, iMac ATI Radeon X1600 and graphics issues

I have been searching the web to see if 10.6.4 has finally solved the graphics issues with the white iMac 2.16 intel with the ATI Radeon X1600 graphics processors and seen some mixed reviews. What is the consensus here, has 10.6.4 finally solved the graphics issues when editing photos in Aperture 3 (not to mention problems with iPhoto and iChat also). I had to downgrade to Leopard before so I don't want to upgrade to SL again and go back down the downgrade path. Thanks in advance for the feedback

I can say that 10.6.4 has worked out the kinks for my white 24" iMac with 7300GT card. From what others have posted here, it appears the x1600 issues have been resolved as well. I was running 10.6.2 prior to this update and advising everyone else of same. Of course, 10.6.2 and SL was not perfect, with some issues cropping up here and there. IMHO the 10.6.4 release is equivalent to the 10.5.3 release by comparison. In fact, I upgraded my Mac mini after my good experiences with 10.6.4 on my iMac. Not sure if this helps or not.

  • Can not install latest ATI mobility Radeon x1600 display driver for my Satellite A100

    Hello,
my Satellite A100-704 PSAA9E is equipped with the ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 display graphic card, for which ATI provides a new driver, named Catalyst 8.3. My issue is that when I run the verification software I get a message telling me that driver is not suitable to be installed on my system.
Is that any information available about it? Can I still install the new Catalyst driver or it's better if I don't? Oh, the current driver I have running on my notebook is the one downloaded from the Toshiba site, 8.292 I believe.
Any information is appreciated. Thank you very much.

    > Can I still install the new Catalyst driver or it's better if I don't?
I dont recommend the installation of any 3rd party graphic drivers. The fact is that such drivers are not tested and not certified and nobody knows how such driver would affect the notebooks hardware in worst case it could lead to the GPU overheating and damage

  • Adobe Premiere Supported Cuda / Open Cl graphics cards (Ram issue)?

I purchased an IMAC last year with  a AMD Radeon HD 6770M, graphics card. I was looking forward to using the Mercury Playback Engine in Premiere. It's on the list of supported cards in Premiere, unfortunately it didn't work because the cards ram was under the requirements. I wish it had mentioned that on Adobe's site, but you live and learn.
Now I want to get a macbook and not make the same mistake. I'm looking at the Intel Iris Graphics 5100 and the Intel Iris Pro Graphics 5200 in some macbooks. Are there any of these cards out there that are unsupported due to low ram memory like the 6770M?

If I recall correctly, there are two flavors of the 6770M, one has 1 GB VRAM (supported) and one that only has 512MB VRAM. Sorry you weren't aware of that.

I would go with a MacBook Pro with the NVIDIA 750M in it. That's the GPU I'd use if upgrading my MacBook Pro. Underpowered GPUs are not really great if you want to keep a system around for a few years.

  • Updating firmware for Radeon X1600 on MacBook Pro 15"

    Hi all,
I'm playing Pirates of the Caribbean Online and have suddenly had some rendering problems. When I contacted tech help, they told me to update my graphics card firmware.
I couldn't find anything on Apple's site, nor on AMD's site (http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html). 10.5 isn't even listed there. Does anyone know where I can download a firmware update for the Radeon x1600? I have a late 2006 MacBook Pro 15".
    Thanks!

I have the same problem and same machine running 10.5.5. Have a look at this topic and see if it might help. Im considering trying, just want to do some more research first. (Always nervous about updating;) )
