Radeon x1600 for gaming.

I recently installed Warcraft 3 on my MBP, my graphics card is a ATI Radeon x1600 and when I go to play the game the screen goes black then goes back to the desktop and tells me that Warcraft 3 closed. I checked out the support and it said something about not being able to support the menu face, and to maybe download update for Video Card BIOS and I went to ATI and there is nothing for x1600. There is 800 and the rest are about x1900. What can I do to fix my problem so I can play Warcraft 3.

Have you tried to download the universal patch for Warcraft III? I had the same problem with my MacMini before the patch came out.

  • Can not install latest ATI mobility Radeon x1600 display driver for my Satellite A100

    Hello,
my Satellite A100-704 PSAA9E is equipped with the ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 display graphic card, for which ATI provides a new driver, named Catalyst 8.3. My issue is that when I run the verification software I get a message telling me that driver is not suitable to be installed on my system.
Is that any information available about it? Can I still install the new Catalyst driver or it's better if I don't? Oh, the current driver I have running on my notebook is the one downloaded from the Toshiba site, 8.292 I believe.
Any information is appreciated. Thank you very much.

    > Can I still install the new Catalyst driver or it's better if I don't?
I dont recommend the installation of any 3rd party graphic drivers. The fact is that such drivers are not tested and not certified and nobody knows how such driver would affect the notebooks hardware in worst case it could lead to the GPU overheating and damage

  • Updating firmware for Radeon X1600 on MacBook Pro 15"

    Hi all,
I'm playing Pirates of the Caribbean Online and have suddenly had some rendering problems. When I contacted tech help, they told me to update my graphics card firmware.
I couldn't find anything on Apple's site, nor on AMD's site (http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html). 10.5 isn't even listed there. Does anyone know where I can download a firmware update for the Radeon x1600? I have a late 2006 MacBook Pro 15".
    Thanks!

I have the same problem and same machine running 10.5.5. Have a look at this topic and see if it might help. Im considering trying, just want to do some more research first. (Always nervous about updating;) )

  • VGA BIOS for MSI RADEON R9 270 GAMING

Can someone please post me a BIOS for VGA BIOS for MSI RADEON R9 270 GAMING?
I flashed mine with the wrong BIOS and realised to late that the BIOS backup did not actually work. This is the 270 and not the 270x. Any help would be appreciated.

There seems to be none so far: >>How to contact MSI.<<
I removed the other line. Better don't mention the payment method again. Also such reward is not needed. Either there's such file from MSI or not.

  • IMac for Gaming using Win XP Pro

Early 2006 I purchased an iMac 2.0 w/ 2G RAM using x1600 ATI card w/ beta boot camp using XP Pro for gaming purposes.
Now I want to expand my horizons a bit to a new iMac with the same idea as above.
My gaming includes Battlefield 2, COD4, and soon Crysis. So here is the system I want:
iMac 3.06 w/ nvidia 8800 GS which I read is NOT the 8800 but some other nvidia card. I want to expand to 4G RAM, BUT replacing all the RAM with either Crucial or Kingston for Dual Channel. Will XP Pro be stable w/ 4G dual channel? Will this system utilize DX 10. w/ the nvidia card on this Mac? If I get Crysis, I want to be able to set everything on HIGH. Are there any Driver problems that I should be aware of?

  • Trying to upgrade my video driver (radeon X1600) - daunting isn't the word!

Silly me sprung for a 6-month subscription to a video game I'm enjoying on the Windows side of my partitioned iMac, and of course that caused the developers to release a patch that makes my video driver immediately useless. Game crashes at startup and unfortunately, it can't be worked around. I'm not overly comfortable poking around in the insides of Windows machines... after hours of research I downloaded the AMD installation app to upgrade my Radeon X1600 to the Catalyst Display Driver vsn. 10.2. After a few failed attempts, it gave me an 'Installation complete' message, but after restarting I still have the tired old X1600 installed (that's what the DxDiag report says, anyway.)
Not familiar enough with this sort of thing to want to start opening folders and rummaging; if anyone out there can give me some pointers I'd be eternally grateful; should you find yourself attacked by any mythological creatures, give a yell and I promise to come rescue you!
    Here's what I've tried:
    Download page:

I'd take the link  above (there are others too) and create a list  of steps and run through that in your mind - it is unique to Macs.
You'll be better for it if you just uninstall the program for AMD and Nvidia / uninstall the driver in Device Manager.
From there you have a clean slate for AMD driver. Some have used Driver Sweeper. But it really isn't or shouldn't be a nightmare - more like you are growing new gray cells and out of the slumber of not having to know or deal with how to get over the obstacles.
Windows on Mac is not 100%. There are hurdles and road blocks that no PC and no Mac using OS X need contend with.
Those threads have 10 people's inputs, opinion, what they did but you don't come away with a cookbook or recipe.
Some people did though and posted theirs. The good news is that it has gotten better. In the past you actually needed to go to Laptop2Go for modified drivers to use because the standard drivers and Apple's didn't.
Your two links, one is old out of date for XP, not 7. The other is not the current driver download page. Those set you on a different route.
Installing only happens after you remove the Apple set of roadbocks. Programs and Device Manager. Spriinkle with touch of 'salt' (Driver Sweeper 3.2) that removes registry keys and files.
Oh... as I did through AMD, it seems your X1600 is almost unsupported now.
I am choosing Mac graphics and Boot Camp as I could not find X1600 on its own:
Apple Boot Camp Windows 7 and Windows Vista Software Graphics Drivers

The driver is over a year old.

  • Macbook Pro 15'' options for gaming and college

    Hi there Apple Community!
I'm having trouble choosing the best cost benefit for a new Mac. I'm a college student and my main priority is to have a mobile unit to cary with me for classes. I'm also a gamer, and since this will be my main computer I'd like to have one that could also run games like Civ 5 and WoW smoothly. Therefore I believe the best option for me would be the cheapest 15'' MBP.
However, both the price and the extra weight scare me. I'm not confortable with walking around with a R$ 6,600.00 notebook (about US$ 3,300.00 - I'm in Brazil and thanks to taxes all the prices are overrated ).
I'm studying options to reduce the risk of walking with such a valuable piece of hardware around while giving me what I need where I need, and after some time I've matured the idea of having more than 1 device.
My first option would be to get me cheapest 13'' MBA along with a Mac Mini - the one with the Radeon 6630M videocard on it. They cost together about the same as the 15' MBP, and would give me both a lighter option to go to college and a dedicated videocard for games, though this card is weaker than the one in the MBP - and I'm not sure how well this card would handle the games I want to play.
Another option would be to get myself the both cheapest 21'' iMac (with the same videocard as the MBP) and the cheapest MBA. This would be a bit more expensive than the MBP, but no big deal, and I'd still have both a decent unit at home for games and the mobility I need for college.
My last option would be to get the 13'' MBA and use the rest of the money to assemble a gaming Windows 7 PC. This would be my last resort, though. I know I can assemble a terrible machine with this budget, but I believe I could have what I need - decent (not extreme) gaming experience at home - from a Mac, even if I have to use Bootcamp.
I'd like to know from you who own Macs what you think about these options. I intent to make my purchase this month or the next, as my classes begin in August. What would u think to be the best combination? Or is the MBP the best option? Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Thanks for the reply, OGELTHORPE. Refurbished products were the 1st thing I thought when I saw the cost of a 15''MBP. Unfortunately there's not even a link for this store in Brazil's store. I'm not sure, but I believe this is because of the mistrurst we brazillians have upon refurbished equipments sold by many other companies that fail to meet quality specs - some companies even try to push them as 'new' to the customers... I know that US Apple follows refurbishing rules to the letter - not hard to find people around the web saying that they got a nice deal for buying a refurbished Apple and that they would do it again. I wish I could buy a refurbished unit from the american Apple Store and have it delivered to Brazil, but I believe this is way too much to ask for the 'free shipping' they offer...
As for gaming, I do like it, but I'm not looking for a gaming station - otherwise I'd look for a PS3, Xbox 360, etc. I do want a computer to complement my studies at home - this is my main focus after all, and it would be desirable if this new computer could also run some games for me to play when I can.
I'm just not satisfied with the Intel HD 3000's performance (some people say they are even weaker than the previous nVidia models they replace). This is why I'm trying to get my hands on one of those new Radeon videocards.
Anyway I've heard that Apple may show some new products on this week's presentation at WWDC.Let's hope something good is coming.

  • Costumizing a mbp for gaming/video

Hi could someone tell me what would be the best costumization for gaming and video editing/playback for the macbook pro? And would a regular macbook be just as good in proformance? I am trying to spend as little money as possible while getting good proformance!
Right now i have a G5 imac with 2GH, 2x512mb memory, and a ATI Radeon 9600 128mb it cant play call of duty 2 without lag or it says "file handle none free" Im assuming that means not enough video memory?

for video editing, you really need the 2gb of memory. But don't go 2gb from apple. The most you should get from apple is 1gbx1dimm because everything above that is way overpriced. You can get a 1gb stick for about $80 and upgrade it yourself.
If you want the best deal, I would go with the 2.16 15"/100gb 7200rpm HD (need a fast HD for video capturing)/1gbx1dimm. I think that's $2599 non-edu.
If you want the 2.0ghz to save money...then just go with the cheapest memory option but still get the 7200rpm hard drive. then buy 2 1gb sticks of ram after-market. I purchaed transcend memory and it works fine and has a warranty.

  • Which is better for gaming and why?

    Hi,
I was researching budget gaming laptops(around $1000, INR 55000) and came up with two choices.....
    1)HP Pavilion g6z-1d00 Notebook PC
    http://shopping2.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Laptops/HP-Pavilion/A2B39AV?HP-Pavilion-g6z-1d0...
    2)HP Envy 14-2130nr Notebook PC
    http://shopping2.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Laptops/HP-ENVY/QE295UA?HP-ENVY-14-2130nr-Noteb...
Could anybody please tell me which is better for gaming (main purpose and best performance)?
The HP Envy looks great but I don't know much about AMD Quad Core.....
Also, is it possible to upgrade the graphics card on the HP Envy ( AMD Radeon 6630 to a better one) via a HP centre?
It seems to run most games quite well, but I need it to be able to play new games for at least 4 years more (college), while not factoring in the costs for any possible graphics card upgrade....
    Please help!!

    Thanks Huffer _ very useful.
I wasn't aware that there was a heat problem with the i7 processors, my dv8 runs at around 42 to 52 degrees, mind you I don't really put it under much load. I use it to play Blu-ray ISO files on my projector and for photo editing (Adobe CS4), it's an 820QM.
I have also changed the thermal compound to ICDiamond and drilled holes in the speaker cover to improve air flow, that made a difference too.
     @ abhishekmaha
Don't take my comment to seriously, although I think it has some truth to it, it was meant to poke a bit of fun at you.
Heat has always been one of the biggest factors when it comes to any computer, designers try to make them thinner, lighter and cheaper and those types don't work for gaming very well. They're OK for the occasional one, but not on a regular basis. I believe that if you game on any machine that was not meant for it, you will not get 4 years out of it _ 2 years.
I wish I could tell you different, but I am not going to lie to you.
Heat basically affects 3 things on a laptop, the solder that holds the components on the motherboard, any mechanical moving parts, eg the hard drive, fan _ and the battery. You can remove the battery to prolong its life when gaming.
Heat breaks down the solder over time and the mother board simply stops working as far as the hard drive, it stops spinning because the tiny bearing(s) in there dry out and seize up.
If you don't want to use a cooling mat then prop up the back of the laptop, hanging it over the edge of the table will expose the fan intake, but will block off other vents.
60 degrees is a bit warm too, 50 is better or rather, the cooler the better. What ever machine you get, make a note of what the temps are when you first boot up and when it's hot. The idea is to get an average so you can judge when it is dangerously getting hot.
P.S. Be sure and give Huffer a kudos too.

  • [SOLVED] KDE 4.3 Composite with ATI Radeon X1600 Series

I'm new to Archlinux (and don't have too much experience on Linux) and searched everywhere in this forum and on Google but couldn't find out how to solve my problem.
I'm using Archlinux x86_64... my video card is an ATI Radeon X1650 Pro (pretty old) and I can't enable Composite on KDE 4.3 (not KDEMod) to enable transparency and some animation, using OpenGL (with XRender it works, but it also gets extremely slow...)

  • 3 gigs worth it for gaming?

This may be a dumb question but I gotta ask before any purchase:
Will 3 GB (as opposed to 2 GB) of memory make a significant difference for gaming? That is, once the Radeon/GeForce's 256 MB of video memory is used up, will that system memory be utilized for additional video needs or be wasted?
It seems that - for an iMac gamer - the video card is the choke-point or bottleneck. Two GB of RAM seems like an obvious cost-efficient choice for all around use but that 3rd gig is spendy and I'm not sure if it helps in a significant way.
Hope I've explained myself sufficiently and thanks in advance for all help.
    dingo

What kind of games are you playing? are the very high tech games?
i have 1 GB in my 20" and it can run most games pretty well. Not on max settings but they do run pretty high.
So yes i would say 2 GB is enough.
there is always that off chance that there will be a game that you need more one. But usually it's the video card then.

  • Aperture 3, Snow Leopard, iMac ATI Radeon X1600 and graphics issues

I have been searching the web to see if 10.6.4 has finally solved the graphics issues with the white iMac 2.16 intel with the ATI Radeon X1600 graphics processors and seen some mixed reviews. What is the consensus here, has 10.6.4 finally solved the graphics issues when editing photos in Aperture 3 (not to mention problems with iPhoto and iChat also). I had to downgrade to Leopard before so I don't want to upgrade to SL again and go back down the downgrade path. Thanks in advance for the feedback

I can say that 10.6.4 has worked out the kinks for my white 24" iMac with 7300GT card. From what others have posted here, it appears the x1600 issues have been resolved as well. I was running 10.6.2 prior to this update and advising everyone else of same. Of course, 10.6.2 and SL was not perfect, with some issues cropping up here and there. IMHO the 10.6.4 release is equivalent to the 10.5.3 release by comparison. In fact, I upgraded my Mac mini after my good experiences with 10.6.4 on my iMac. Not sure if this helps or not.

  • Perfect Hardware for Gaming?

hi guys, i'm wanting to buy a new MacPro... to use for day-trading, but also for serious gaming (PC games via BootCamp).
Although I'm willing to spend whatever money it takes on hardware to get the best possible gaming experience, I don't want to waste money on any hardware that won't translate into a noticeable increase in gaming performance.
Also, i'll be using it with a seamless triple-monitor setup (each with 1600 x 1200 res).
    questions:
    1. Would a 12-core 2.93GHz processor give noticeably better gaming performance than, say, a 6-core 3.33GHz processor, or an 8-core 2.4GHz processor?
    2. Would 64GB of RAM make a noticeable difference from 32GB?
    3. Someone told me that a RAID card would benefit gaming performance, but i find this very hard to believe - is this true?
    4. Twin ATI Radeon HD 7550 .... will these give good enough performance for gaming across triple monitors (with a TOTAL res of 4800 x 1200)?
Any advice is appreciated... bearing in mind that it needs to cope with today's games as well as games coming out in the next year or two (which will obviously be more demanding in terms of hardware)

Part of the answer is going to depend on how and when you game, as well as what type of games.
Are your games generally high stress, high demand video, or lower stress, with more static images and logic puzzles that fast action?
When you buy a new game, do you play every day until you finish, and never play again?
I don't have hours per day/week to play.
I may not play at all during any given week.
It may take me 6 months or longer to play through any given game.
If you tend to take time to play through a game, a regular computer may not be the best option.
I say that because f there is a security update, OS update, etc, it may break your game.
After a certain amount of time has passed, the developer is likely to tell you something like
"We wrote the game for 10.6.1, but you are running 10.6.7"
"The solution to your problem is to downgrade your OS."
Both of which I have heard from tech support of the game developer.
    Enter the Playstation.
No longer have that problem.  If so inclined, I can (and have) played 10 year old games, without issue.

  • Will my ATI Radeon x1600 graphics card support Final Cut Express?

In the fall I plan to attend Cincinnati State, and major in AVP (Audio Video Production), and I wanted to get a head start by purchasing the program Final Cut Express. I checked the system specifications, and apparently I need an AGP graphics card. The problem is I have no idea whether or not my ATI Radeon x1600 card will be able to run the program or not. Thank you for your feedback!
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I'm just not sure what is going on - that error is what Mac Mini's and others with onboard video have when they try to run FCE/FCP, and there is a workaround mentioned here:

Of course, your MBP has the ATI card, not onboard video.
I did a clean install of FCE 3 HD ( PPC ) and then upgraded immediately to FCE 3.5 HD ( Universal ) and have experienced no problems with it.

  • MSI Radeon R9 270X GAMING 4GB and GOP UEFI vBios Flash?

I'm thinking about getting a MSI Radeon R9 270X GAMING 4GB for my HTPC since it's kind of shorter and was wondering if MSI provides a GOP UEFI flash for it or if it's capable of doing so?
    Thank you.

the card has 2 VBIOS's and some have one that is Legacy and another that is GOP already (others have a Legacy and a LN2) so its a 50/50 if it has it out the box!
if it doesn't there will probably be one available as the Rx - 2xx have been around a while now!

In a number of threads - e.g. Semantic Groups in DTP it is stated that you cannot use semantic groups to aggregate data. In others, there are statements that this is only for handling the error stack. This I find puzzling, as the SAP Help says: +Choo
