Radeon X800XT...problem

I've had this card for a few months. When I first installed it, there were some problems with the image on the monitor: one of my monitors is too dark (I had to raise the brightness up all the way and it's still too dark), and the colors on both monitors are messed up (for example, there were weird ribbons of stipple-like marks all over the default OSX wallpaper). I eventually got the problem figured out, but I recently had to reinstall OSX and everything that went with it, and these video card problems are back. But I forgot how I fixed them before. Anybody have any ideas?

Did you install the latest drivers from ATI? If you reinstalled the OS, you may have installed older drivers.
I'd ask about firmware updates, but reinstalling the OS should not affect the card's firmware.

  • Ati Radeon X800XT

I have an ATI Radeon X800XT video card. Is it possible to connect my two new 23" Cinema displays (DVI) to it? I know I can connect to the ADC with an adapter, but what about the Dual-link connection? Also, do I lose performance?
    Thank you.

Yes, it will run two 23" displays. Just use a ADC to DVI adapter for one of the displays. Dual-link and single-link DVI use the same connector, just some of the pins aren't used in single-link. A single-link DVI device will work on a dual-link DVI port.
The performance will be a bit lower with two displays, because the graphics memory, AGP bandwidth, and graphics processor time have to be spilt. You are displaying twice as many pixels, with the same hardware

  • Radeon X800XT in a G4 MDD 867 mhz?

Can a flashed Radeon X800XT be used in a G4 MMD 867 mhz?
I assume it will need to draw power from the optical drive, is a standard Y cable OK?
Do pins 3 and 11 will need to be taped?

I installed that same video card into my old 1.25 Ghz G4 MDD.
You will still need to tape the pins, I believe, though.
As far as power, I am not sure in your MDD model.
All I had to do was take one card out and put the new one in.
The card I had before this was a 256 VRAM ATI 9600 PC/Mac edition card, but did not perform as well with some things.
The X800XT is a much better all around performer in the G4, G5 model Macs.
The only thing I was advised about is that this video card runs a lot hotter than the other standard video cards for Mac.
I was advised to install a PCI slot fan to keep both the interior of the Mac and the video card cooler.
So, when I installed the new GPU card, I installed the slot fan at the same time also.
Be advised though that the X800XT is a longer card and with the edition of the PCI slot fan, it was a very tight fit to get the MDD cases closed and locked.

  • Will Radeon x800xt support  30" ACD plus a 23"ACD

I have a dual 2ghz G5 tower with an ATI Radeon x800xt graphics card. Will the system support two Apple Cinema Displays simultaneously: a 30" plus a 23""?

According to ATI, the X800XT has one dual link DVI port (for the 30" ACD) and one ADC port (for legacy Apple displays). If your 23" display is the newer aluminum version, you'll need an adapter.
    Hope this helps!

  • Not impressed with the ATI Radeon x800xt!!

I have been using the ati radeon x800xt for about two months now. I do motion graphics and 3d and I am not impressed. Barely saw an increase in AE 6.5 or Maya and Motion is painfully slow.
    I have a G-Raid 300gb that runs at 7200rpm through FW800.
With 3.5 gb of ram I would assume I would see a major increase.
Is it because I only have 2.0Ghz
I am using all the high performance settings in the preferences and still no luck.
I am dying here. please help!!!
    2.0 GHz G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   3.5 GB RAM, G-Raid 300 GB, ATI Radeonx800xt

It doesn't sound like the Radeon's fault, sounds like the G-Raid isn't keeping up with your demanding tasks. You might need a faster solution for piping the data through. Hmm, what's your G-Raid's transfer rate right now? Mine gives a solid 80Mb/sec read rate (500Gb G-Raid) FW800. I don't think it's because you only have a 2GHz machine, that's still a really solid performer...
You might need to stripe 4HD's in RAID 0 or just get a pair of Raptor 150's in an eSATA enclosure and then you'll see some serious motion.

  • [SOLVED] Kernel 4.0 with Radeon HD problem: Purple Line

    Hi All,
This is my first post on the Arch forums! and probably going to get flamed a bit too as this is not an Arch specific problem. I am just hoping you guys will be able to help point me in to the right direction. The reason I am posting here on the Arch forums as it does affect Arch Linux now the kernel package has ticked over to 4.0.
The problem, is that after updating to Kernel 4.0, there is now a vertical purple line on the left hand side of my screen as soon as X is started - when using HDMI. I believe the problem lies in the Kernel, how would I go about reporting a potential kernel bug and what kind of logs (and how) would they expect me to provide?
    My hardware (Radeon HD 6570):
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Turks PRO [Radeon HD 6570/7570/8550]
It works perfectly on 3.19 but 4.0 and 4.1-rc the purple line is present. In addition to the purple line, the display is not quite as crisp - slightly blurry.
I am using open source drivers - I have tried Mesa 10.5 and 10.6 (development) makes no difference.
Have tried on both Arch Linux and Linux Mint - again distro makes no difference.
Only happens when using HDMI out, VGA is fine.

I'm also having video issues since updating to kernel 4.0.1.  A lot of video tearing and "glitching".  I have a Radeon card as well:
    $ lspci | grep Radeon
05:00.0 Display controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Venus XTX [Radeon HD 8890M / R9 M275X] (rev ff)
I'm going to try and downgrade my kernel to confirm if that's the cause.  There weren't many other packages that upgraded, though...
**EDIT**  The kernel is definitely the issue, or at least something conflicting with the kernel.  I'm having bad luck.  This is the second package upgrade in a week to make my system screwy (wpa_supplicant being the first).
Unfortunately, I'm not real sure myself on how to go about filing an effective bug report.  Once more info on that is forthcoming, I'll re-upgrade my kernel and provide any relevant logs, etc.  Or file a separate report if the issues aren't closely related.  Thanks!

  • [Radeon] RX800SE problem

I bought MSI RX800SE-TD256 videocard and now I have a little problem. Along the card came external power cable, one end of the cable goes to the card and two other ends to power supply. Problem is that I can attach only one end (4 pin female) to my power supply, for the other one (4 pin male) I don't have a place. I tried to look if there is adapter on market that would change the male cable end to a female one, but I didn't found any.
And I should maybe mention that the card works somehow. But the difference in gameplay between it and my previous Radeon 9600 Pro is so small that I believe my RX800 doesn't get enough power.
Any ideas what should I do?
    Please help.

    quider,
The Male attachment is so you do not lose a plug.
If you have enough plugs on your Power Supply to power all your hardware, then leave the Male Plug empty.
    Take Care,

  • Radeon 9200 Problems Playing DVD

I am tryring to play a commercial Hollywood Video, Steven Segals Under Siege. It is playing just fine right now in my G3 Laptop and used to play just fine in my G4.
About 10 days ago I installed a Radeon 9200 ATI Card in my G4 in order to run my new 23 inch Apple Cinema Display.
Today I tried to play the Under Siege DVD in my G4. It plays for about 15 or 20 minutes then the computer screen goes black and the computer is frozen. I have to hit the reset button on the front of the computer.
I tried this 5 different times using Apples DVD Player Version 4.6.5. Same result. I then tried it using MPlayer & VLC Movie Player both of which I downloaded from Version Tracker. Same result. Freeze up & Crash.
Now all of the above happens when I am viewing the DVD with about a 6 inch screen. As I said I can get about 15 or 20 minutes then the freeze and crash.
But, if I set it to full screen, which I did with all 3 DVD players described above, it only takes about 5 minutes to freeze and crash.
Same thing happens when I try to play a Movie in Windows Media Player or Quicktime or Real Player at Full Screen Size. As long as I keep the size below about 6 inches it works. But when I try to go full screen size the Screen goes Black and the computer is running, I can hear it, but it will not respond to any key or movement of the mouse or to Escape. Must hit Reset Button.
I am thinking that this Radeon Card is the culprit. What do you think?
I know the Apple DVD Player works just fine as I am watching the Segal DVD on my laptop as I type this.
My computer works fine in every other way. Safari, Microsoft Word, Entourage, everything except playing the DVD or using a screen saver such as the Apple Beach Picture. Same Crash happens when I use it or any other large photo that covers entire 23 inch screen.
    Thanks for your help. Bob

Make sure in the BIOS it is set to run from AGP, if there is that option.
the bios itself detects if you use a pci express or agp card in the AGR slot, you cant configure it.
    Quote
There have been some issues with the 9600 series and 8X agp / agp fast writes.
Try forcing 4X agp and turning off agp fast writes in bios to see if it at least boots for you.
there are no settings like fastwrites or AGP mode. the AGR slot only works with cards which are compatible.

  • RADEON IRQ Problem

I have a Radeon 9000 Pro vid card and an MAudio Delta 66 soundcard: http://www.midiman.com/products/m-audio/delta66.php
    I am using Windows XP
The Radeon keeps following my sound card and won't take it's own unique IRQ.
I moved the audio card around but it keeps being followed by the video card.
I was told to change the computer from ASCI to standard PC mode. (I thought I did this during installation of Windows XP). See: http://www.pcaudiolabs.com/setup_tips/win2000.htm
I have to fix the problem because the shared IRQ causes loud squelches and pops on my audio card.
Is changing to PC mode my only option. do I have alternatives?
    thanks.

Didn't try the external yet, i'll still try something with this.
:: Do you have a home network setup, or connect straight to modem?
    straight to modem.
i doubt it is the audigy, it worked before... and i've disabled everything i don't need like onboard audio, onboard 1394.. (never installed 'em)
i noticed one thing: all people with similar problems are running win2000 SP4, you run XP so it's ok.
MS knowledge base says "If one or two registry hives consistently become corrupted for no reason, the problem probably occurs at shutdown and is not discovered until you try to load the registry hive at the next restart. In this scenario, the registry hive is written to disk when you shut down the computer, and this process may stop the computer or a component in the computer before the writing is completed." http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;822705
so something (realtek?) is writing to the registry while i shut down the pc.
i'm gonna disable realtek before shutdown & see if it boots without errors... if it does, i'll just have to disable it *always* before shutdown.... sounds like driver error for me?

  • ATI Radeon drivers problems (both open-source and proprietary)

    Hi 2 All!!
I have a problem with my ATI Radeon 9000-series. The open source drivers (xf86-video-ati) don't work very good for me, my monitor's fresh rate isn't "at-top" and the monitor projection is slightly translated to the right (say 8-12 pixels). So I've tried to build the official drivers with ABS, all is gone successfully, except for some worrying warnings, but I thought that it's normal. I have a customized kernel, build through ABS... So, when I've tried to load the fglrx module it says:
    # modprobe fglrx
FATAL: Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/2.6.27-ARCH/video/fglrx.ko): Cannot allocate memory
Please, help me! My machine is slow, I can't run any OpenGL-accelerated application, even Quake III!!! If you can suggest me how to improve the performance and how to resolve problems with open-source drivers, it also would be very good... Thank you and sorry for my poor English please.

I had some problems with installing ATI drivers recently (could not build fglrx module, not even manually, I had to change some installation script), but with latest driver version (8.11 I think) from ati.amd.com was everything fine (I have Radeon 9600 Pro)
Try to do this (and write here the output)
    glxinfo | grep vendor
    fglrxinfo
In both cases, it should write something like OpenGL...: ATI... if there will be MESA or DRI, that means that you don't have loaded your fglrx module.
If fglrxinfo output will be something like: no permission for...(should be first or second line of the output), then write this somewhere in your xorg.conf:
       Section "DRI"
           Mode 0666
       EndSection
    run:
modprobe -a fglrx - and give here the output. If there will be none, run:
lsmod | grep fglrx - to see wheter fglrx module is really loaded in kernel
if you will have no module, you can install one, type:
    cd /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod
    sh make.sh
    cd ../
    sh make_install.sh (as root)
and post any warning or error here at forum, drivers (but not fglrx module) are installed at /usr/share/ati
After installing drivers, you also need to configure your system (notice your system that it's there), commands:
aticonfig --initial (for editing your xorg.conf)
aticonfig --overlay-type=Xv (acceleration support in xorg.conf)
Showing your xorg.conf file here is also good idea, here is mine (sections Device and Screen):

  • 865PE and Radeon 9800 Problems

    Hi,
I've searched the forum, but didn't found a solution. I have troubles with my sapphire radeon 9800 pro and the msi 865 neo 2 mainboard (bios 1.2) . If I try to set the AGP to 8x it will stay on 4x after reboot. This happens also with the enable fast write setting - it is also disabled after reboot. Of course, I've downloaded the latest drivers from sapphire  website - with no luck. Is there a solution? Should an update of the bios help?
    Regards
    Josef from Austria
BTW, I'm have a 3 GHZ P4 and 2*512 MB Kingston HyperX3500 (SPD - stronger settings result in boot failures) but sandras memory bandwith benchmark shows only values of about 4400 MB/sec - with the bios fast setting (a Reference System with 865PE should reach 4800) - any recommondations how to reach such a benchmark values without overclocking ?

    Hi Arthur,
thanks for your response. I've installed the additional powerconnector on the card. I use a 430 W enermax power supply. I think, it should provide enough power. But I didn't install the intel chipset drivers - maybe this would solve the problem. Another question to the benchmarks - I've updated the Bios to 1.3 and now I have values about 5000 in sandras memory bandwith (with fast enabled and no overclocking DRam settings are 2-3-2-5) but now my computer isn't able to wake up from standby - hi starts and after 3 sec hi stops working. The power off feature dosn't switch off the pc. If I change the timings to 2-3-3-6 everything will work fine (with lower benchmarks). So I search for a way that standby and poweroff works with the faster ram settings. Do you have maybe an idea?

  • ATI Radeon 2600 PROBLEM: First display wide and second not in mirror mode?

Hi all, I bought a new mac pro with ATI Radeon HD 2600, my problem is this: I have one LCD monitor widescreen 1680x1050 that i use like primary display and one normal CRT television 800x600 that i use like second monior... If i set the "mirror mode" on display the clone reduce automactly my LCD to not wide monitor and i see two black row... Is it possible use the mirror mode in two different monitor? it works only at 1024x768 not 1680x1050 is the video card not enough power? Should be fixed that thing ? Regards
    Message was edited by: egariM

You did not understand the true intent of mirror displaying, which adjusts to the lower specifications of the two screens. You would not like to see your CRT display have to accept high bandwith 1680x1050 signal and fry would you ?
Neither is the reduction of the content of a 1680x1050 screen to a 800x600 acceptable, and not only because of the width/height different ratios : text would be pure garbage, except in huge fonts.
So your mac pro adjusted the display to the 800x600 your crt can accept, as my macbook would when connecting to a video projector for presentation, when in mirror mode.
This is obviously the best choice it could have done, you see...
Now, if you want to keep best resolutions in both screen, then you have no other option than to use extended desktop.

  • Ati Radeon X1950 problems

    Hi everybody,
After using arch linux on my EEE PC for some months, I decided it to also install it on my desktop. I followed the wiki instructions but even from the first boot things started going wrong.
The first problem was a black screen in every boot. This was solved easily by disabling Kernel Mode Setting(added nomodeset in menu.lst).
However, after installing X(and KDE), more issues appeared. When desktop effects are enabled artifacts appear on the screen, mainly when moving windows.
To make matters worse the Xserver constantly crashes(when opening konqueror for example) and sometimes the system just freezes(this happened multiple times when trying to switch from kdm to TTY1). The Xorg.0.log contains pages of unreadable text after a crash.
I would have given up if I wasn't sure that my card can work just fine with the radeon driver. My graphics card used to work almost perfectly in Ubuntu for almost one year so I believe I'm doing something wrong.
The card is ATI X1950 Pro(r570).
Thank you in advance for any help!

    I'm using radeon.
It didn't work. I compiled 2.6.32 but if I leave modesetting enabled the system freezes when proccessing UDev events.
Moreover, these entries appear in Xorg.0.log:
(II) [KMS] drm report modesetting isn't supported.
(WW) RADEON(0): [agp] AGP not available
    (WW) RADEON(0): Direct rendering disabled
(EE) RADEON(0): [agp] AGP failed to intiallize. Disabling the DRI.
glxinfo says I have direct rendering but I can't enable compositing at all using the new kernel.

  • Radeon Drivers problems with BootCamp Windows 2008 Server R2

Hello !! I have some troubles with BootCamp and Windows 2008 Server R2... I can't find any graphic drivers for my AMD Radeon HD 6490 !! Heeeelp please
    (I Have a Macbook Pro i7)

Shoooryuken, did you ever get this problem resolved? I have thhe same issue...
I have the 2011 MacBook Pro 15" 2.0ghz Quad Core i7 with integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 and AMD Radeon 6490M.
I just installed Windows Server 2008 R2 (Which is based on Windows 7) using Boot Camp. After I installed it, the I only have 3 resolution options, all of which are stretched. I checked the device manager and found that the Apple Instal DVD did not work and only a "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" was installed. It also reports a whopping 16MB of graphics memory
I downloaded the "detect and install" driver utility from AMD (http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx) and it detected my correct OS and downloaded something (driver maybe?). When I clicked install, I recieved this message: "AMD Catalyst Mobility cannot be downloaded due to incompatible hardware/software on your computer. Your computer does not contain a proper graphics adapter."
I don't really know why Windows does not detect the graphics card. Right now I am trying to install the Intel graphics drivers for the Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics... I will report back if I get the integrated graphics running...
