Radeonhd + Radeon X1250

So I'm having some issues starting the X Server using the radeonhd driver with an X1250 card. I've tried a number of fixes from around the net and Arch Forums, with varying degrees of success and nothing definite. Most of the fixes involved xorg.conf edits.
Using a fresh install of Arch64, X.Org (configured with hwd) and radeonhd (xorg.conf edits from Arch ATI Wiki were applied), this is the output after starting the X Server as a user:

As I said before, I've tried a number of things with no one fix giving results. Installing TTF and Type1 fonts gets rid of the "Could not init font path element" errors, but still doesn't allow the X Server to start. Commenting out the type1 and record modules from the xorg.conf gets rid of the "(EE)" errors, and again gives no X. Both combined leave me with no X and the remaining output:
None
waiting for X server to shut down
The Catalyst driver with aticonfig has also not done the trick thus far, giving a similar error output with a few different elements.
Any ideas?

Based on your suggestion, I tried starting X as a user without an xorg.conf file and received this error output:

Also, I decided to try starting X using my xorg.conf file again so I can grab any EE or WW messages from the Xorg.0.log. Here's what I got:

    I recently bought used Latitude XT and now I know I should have rather bought XT2 :-\
    After recent upgrade (kernel switched to 3.5.x) I get tons of visual artifacts from the opensource driver - mainly garbage fonts but also pictures are displayed horribly. This makes my system pretty unusable. I tried to install Catalyst drivers from AUR but my card (radeon Xpress 1250) is not supported and I couldn't find any legacy drivers that would compile against 3.5 kernel. What should I do to make this bastard working properly? Please, at least point me to some helpful webpages.

    I don't have the screen flickering behavior.
    Reinstalling Arch using pacman pinned ARM with 3.4.7-1 seems to be working right now. I guess its 3.5x that breaks stuff.

  • IPod Restore - Error Message 21

    Hi All,
    Hope someone can help as this is driving me insane - I've just installed iTunes 9.2.1 but when I went to Sync my iPod I was told I needed to restore it.
    Sooo....selected Restore but just as it gets to the end of the Restore process I get an error message (21). Having reviewed the info on this website I've tried everything from switching off Windows Firewall to uninstalling my security software.

     The problem w/ Lenovo/IBM, Dell & many pc makers is there parts (mainboards especially) are OEM & made speciffically for that model. The backplates work only w/ that board & a lot of the cables & front panel connectors WILL NOT match up to other computers. If your hyard pressed to change motherboards you will need a NEW micro ATX case to go w/ the new mobo.
     I just found an HP Slimline computer in my apts trash. The motherboard was made by Asus for HP but could not be used in a reg tower cause it had some wacko power supply connector. I pulled the CPU & stuck it in a reg case w/ a cheap Ebay motherboard & it runs great. Why are you looking to change out your motherboard?

  • When trying to burn a CD I get the message "Disc burner or software not found"

    Itunes is not recognizing my CD burnner. I have no trouble importing music nor do I have any problems burning CDs outside of itunes. I have actually been having this problem for some time now. I kept hoping that it would be fixed in an update but alas the problem has persisted. Strangly I noticed in the diagnostic  it says the the user in not an administrator which is odd since I am logined in as an Admin. Can anyone help? Here is my diagnostic:

    I started the upgrading process, but it giving me a message that, I need to uninstall ATI CATALYST Install Manager, ATI Catalyst Control Center. My laptop is model A305D-S6848 Vista 32 bit. I don't know where to start to get that so can somebody point me to right direction to get that?

    Hi buddy,
    I think you have to uninstall the ATI Catalyst driver (display driver) because the version is too old and not compatible with Vista. You can uninstall the display driver in control panel > uninstall software. There you should find a list with all installed programs and drivers.

  • Need Guidance Please...

    Hey MSI faithful. 
    I am getting ready to perform a major upgrade.  I am currently using a five year old KT4VL.  Based on the fact that this board has lasted me for five years and is still going strong, MSI has won me over and I will be sticking with them on my upgrade. 
    Now here's my dilemma, I can't decide between these two boards:

    I know this is the AMD/ATI chipset forum, so the answers may be a little biased, but I didn't know which forum to post this question in.  Is one of these boards superior to the other?  I like the 690 chipset but don't necessarily need the onboard video.  In terms of pure performace, which of these two chipsets will give the best bang for the buck or is there any discernible difference? 
    Here's what I am planning on upgrading to:
    XP SP2 Home Edition
    AMD 5200+ Windsor Core 65w (or Brisbane 5000 Black Box Edition)  Any thoughts on this choice too?

    First of all don't get a Black Edition 5000+ which is only meant for oc. You won't have much fun with either of this boards and oc. Even the unlocked multi won't get you far. Better get a faster stock cpu instead. You'll nearly get a 6000+ for the price of 5000+ BE. If you want to spend less take the 5200+ (get an EE version).
    For the board I'd take the K9A Neo2 Digital. Today I build a rig with it for my brother-in-law. Nice board with good onboard vga (Radeon X1250). If you don't wanna play you'll need no additional vga. It comes with really great onboard solutions. HDMI, DVI, Firewire, 7.1 Sound, Gigabit Lan and nice PWM fan control. Also offers basic oc abilities. Great board for that price level.
    The PSU you want to get is not that good. For the price of the Thermaltake better get a good single rail psu like Corsair VX450 or VX550 or Tagan TG400-U33 or Enermax EG-465AX-VE.

  • Satelllite L350 freezes in games

    I know this aint a gaming Laptop but was enough to run minor games. All was well when i purchased with no problems to report, but recently when i play the game will run fine one min (FPS and smooth running great) but then all of a sudden it freezes and i cant do anything and then returns to normal. I have tried many things... turning all setting low on the game itself, updating drivers changing priorites on the game to no joys.

    What do you mean with it returns to normal?
    Its not easy to say what is the reason for this problem but you should try to update the display driver. Check the Toshiba website for an update:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers
    Dont forget to update the DirectX version and Windows. Therefore visit the Windows update website.
    Maybe the notebook gets to hot. Make sure that there is enough free space a round the notebook and clean it with compressed air spray. This could blow out the dust from the cooling ventilators.
    Can you hear the fan?
    Have you checked the system requirements of the game? Compare this with the notebook hardware.

  • Confused: how does a videocard relate to my director work environment

    laptops (affordable)
    have integrated videocards (ex: Intel GMA X3100 w/ 384mb
    allocated ram
    OR ATI Radeon X1250 w/ 512mb allocated ram );
    I understand that these integrated videocards use the
    machine's ram via 'sharing';
    QUESTION: is this an issue for me? I author in director10
    with a cast full of dozens of scripts, usually one .w3d file (
    created in lightwave with somewhere between 5000-20000 points ), a
    flash file that streams in flvs for animated textures;

    Yes it does. The shared RAM isn't so much an issue. More RAM
    will equate to better handling of texture maps on those 3D objects.
    However, the Intel GMA graphics processor (aka GPU) are not
    up to par compared to a ATI or NVidia GPU. When it comes to
    rendering 3D objects you need fast floating point calculations and
    polygon rendering/fills. That is what an ATI card or NVidia card in
    a desktop or laptop will buy you. Both excel and will render
    DirectX (the 3D driver) faster and better then the Intel GPU.
    The downside is that they consume more power. You will seldom
    find a ATI or NVidia card built into say a Tablet laptop computer.
    Most Tablets tend to lean towards consuming less power for more
    portability in the hand of the user and thus ship to the less power
    consuming (and weak) Intel GPU.
    Also, if you do alot of transparency in Director (and
    especially Flash within Director), the Intel GPU will come to a
    crawl.

  • LAPTOP DOESNT RECOGNIZE MUSIC CD

    i have a satellite toshiba laptop with vista... i have all the updates etc.. when i put a music cd in - a brand new one that i bought at the store- not a blank cd- it doesnt recognize it. when i go to my computer and click on it, it says insert a disk but its already in there... i tried calling toshiba but ravi doesnt under english.

  • Arch64 ati radeon 3870 radeonhd driver. Problem with xorg.conf.

    I've got a small problem with my xorg. I won't hide that i'm not a xorg nerd and i've used the automatic xorg tool to generate the xorg.conf. After starting X, the screen goes black and then after ~5 seconds  montior switches to power-saving mode.

  • Radeon HD 4670 incredibly slow with radeonhd and KDE 4.4

    Hi,
    today I installed Arch on my desktop pc and wanted to test KDE 4.4. The desktop pc has an Radeon HD 4670 card and due the incompatibility from the catalyst driver with the new xorg, I have to use the radeonhd driver. Everything works ... somehow. I can watch the screen slowly refreshing if I move a window or scroll something and I cant activate compositing.

    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
              SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
    from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
    The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
    Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • Radeon troubles with window dragging

    Hey everyone,
    I'm running kdemod with a radeon mobility hd3650 w/radeonhd driver.  I'm definitely a semi-newb and really really confused about xorg/hal but here's a pic of what's happening: (sorry about imageshack :-P  )

    That pic is a little old, and my desktop is so much better than that now, but....
    I cannot for the life of me remember what this unwanted window effect is called.  it happens when I drag my windows and I obviously cannot enable any desktop effects. 
    Any words of wisdom?
    A side note-  I have no idea how to generate log files.  I can access them and I know how to put them in a pastebin, but I have no idea how to actually get the full text from terminal (so if anyone can direct me to a decent .log-generation-how-to-wiki, that would be superb)

    Your logs are generated automatically by your system as it runs - there is nothing further that you need to do. They are ordinary text files, so you can display them on a terminal using any of the usual tools - cat, less, grep, etc.

  • Keyboard and gfx issues after switching to xf86-video-radeonhd

    After recently switching from an nVidia gfx card to a ATI Radeon HD2400, I instaled xf86-video-radeonhd driver. I noticed several issues that I haven't experienced before:
    1. Keyboard frequently repeat a keystroke that I only pressed once (e.g. aaaaarch when i type arch)
    2. Keyboard frequently skip keystrokes when I type fast (e.g. "achlinx rcks" when i type "archlinux rocks")
    3. After X11 starts, if I try to switch to virtual console (ctrl+alt+F1), the system freezes and turns zombie. This combined with my recently switch to ext4 had caused more than enough data loss.
    4. I hav a dual monitor setup, one of them needs 59.9Hz refresh rate, and the other needs 60.0Hz  refresh rate. If I configure the monitor as right-of or left-of in xorg.conf, xrandr always gets the refresh rate wrong. I have to manually issue xrandr commands.
    I noticed that my keyboard got recognized twice in Xorg.log, Could this have caused 1) and 2)?//

    Hate to reply to my own thread. But the keyboard problem has been solved by moving the keyboard to a different port. Apparently not all ports behind the workstation are 2.0 ports? Funny this was never a problem before until I switch to a radeon gfx card.

  • Can't run KDE with OpenGL using radeon driver

    Hi,
    I'm running KDE on a ThinkPad T400 with an ATI Radeon HD3470 card using the radeon driver. I've got the desktop running with desktop effects using XRender, but when I try switching to OpenGL I get a pop-up saying...
    "Failed to activate desktop effects using the given configuration options."
    I've tried tweaking the OpenGL options in KDE and various driver options in xorg.conf but it fails every time. glxinfo reports that direct rendering is working and glxgears runs at around 200fps.

    The desktop looks great but I'd love to get it working with OpenGL. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

    Unfortunatelly, this driver doesn't support opengl with your card. Radeonhd driver doesn't support either. You can only use desktop effects with XRender, but not all and some of them might be choppy.
    The only solution for you is installing catalyst drivers (not recommended, hanged my system several times per day) or turning off desktop effects (recommended). In 2 months 2.6.30 kernel should be out with extra features and tweaks, allowing to use EXA with radeon drivers, so XRender performance should fly. Unfortunatelly I don't have any information about OpenGL support with open source radeon drivers.
    I moved from nvidia to ati, after nvidia's problem with kde performance, but ati is not better.
