Radio buffering in iTunes

Help! my daughter has an out of town radio show which I listen to thru iTunes. I have a dial up conection (only option in my area). I can't stand to listen to it because of the constant buffering. Is it posible to save/record the program to listen to later without the buffering?
TIA
dell   Windows 2000

Are they offering a 56K or smaller stream? If not, then there's not much that can be done to help the situation.
Have you tried changing the "Streaming Buffer Sizes" in iTunes Preferences -> Advanced tab? Try each setting and listen for a while to see which works best for you.
Since you're on dial-up, it's important to not cause any other Interent activity while you're trying to listen - no other surfing, close your e-mail client, and don't use the iTunes Store or let iTunes update Podcast subscriptions (if you have any).
Tools exist that let you record the current audio stream playing through the computer, but if it buffers during that you'll still have the same dropout problem.

  • ITunes Radio Buffering Annoying

    Hello.
When playing iTunes radio in the background of my full screen games, the radio tends to buffer. This forcibly minimizes my game window to let the radio buffer... is there a way to prevent iTunes from doing this? You can imagine how annoying this is. Sometimes it buffers over and over again, making me just stop the radio or exit iTunes completely.
If this issue has already been addressed, I apologize for repeat topics. Please kindly point me to that link. Thanks.

I am having this same problem except that I'm not playing games. I'm just trying to listen to radio music. The station will show in the menu bar, but then it "hangs" as it is buffering. I have tried changing the sync rate; no help. Stations I love to listen to I cannot access because of this. It's very frustrating!
    Thank you for assistance. CatCat

  • Is it possible to create a link that I can place on a website to an internet radio stream on iTunes?

Is it possible to create a link that I can place on a website to an internet radio stream on iTunes?

Yes, but it WON'T play through the browser. It'll require any visitor who clicks it to have iTunes installed, and it'll open iTunes as soon as they do.

  • Can I add radio stations to iTunes?

Thanks Ryan, but how in the name of our dear lord in heaven do I add a radio station to a smart playlist.
All I have is the URL:
    http://www.garnierstreamingmedia.com/asx/radio538.asp
    So no drag+drop.

Baltimore, Maryland Yes, you can add radio stations to iTunes. However, you cannot add the radio stations to the “Radio” source in the source list. You only have the ability to add radio stations into the “Library” source.
You can always make a Smart Playlist, though, and name it something such as “My Radio Stations” or a name of your choice. What this will do is organize all of your personal radio stations that are not listed in the "Radio" source and create easy access and some organization to your downloaded internet radio stations in iTunes. To find internet radio stations, here are a few links:
    • DDance.FM Digital Dance Radio
    • Macstreams/Rogue Amoeba
    • Live365.com
    • UK Radio Stations
    • Shoutcast
    • Radio-Locator (not the best for locating online radio feeds)
There are other sites, of course. When you go to these sites, you will see lists of internet radio stations. To get the station of your choice into iTunes, you will need to download either the .pls, .m3u, or .mp3 file from that station. Once the file has downloaded, find it on your computer and double-click it. This should open iTunes. Note: XM Radio Online will not work for this. If it ever does work, I will update this. Sorry! If not, drag the file into iTunes Library and it will import into your library. Now, onto organizing and creating the Smart Playlist of your internet radio stations.
To create a Smart Playlist based on the internet radio stations you have downloaded, go to File > New Smart Playlist. A window will appear asking you for information. Make sure the “Match the following condition:” box is checked. From the first drop down menu, choose “Kind.” From the second drop down menu, choose “is”. To the right of that is a blank field where you can enter in what kind of file you wish to have in this Smart Playlist. You will want to add “MPEG audio stream” (without quotes) in that field.
Lastly, check the box that says “Live Updating” which will update your Smart Playlist of radio stations when you add more stations to your library. Then whenever you want to listen to your favorite radio station, you can click on that Smart Playlist in the source list and you will see all the internet radio stations you have added to iTunes.
    Enjoy the music!
Note: There is no way of adding an internet radio station to the "Radio" source list in iTunes. Contacting Apple more than likely won't yield a response, but you can list your station on Shoutcast, Live365, RogueAmoeba (links listed above) to be seen and heard by listeners worldwide.
iTunes does not support Windows Media Player format or Real Player One format, so those streams cannot be played through iTunes and must be played through their respective applications.

I read the answer to this question and appreciated the information, but where on the web do you find the sources that were listed - namely:
    • DDance.FM Digital Dance Radio
    • Macstreams/Rogue Amoeba
    • Live365.com
    • UK Radio Stations
    • Shoutcast
    • Radio-Locator (not the best for locating online radio feeds)
I would like to add internet stations, too, but don't know how to find the stations.

  • I cannot access the various radio stations in iTunes on my iPad

I cannot access the various radio stations in iTunes on my ipad2

So, If you want to listen to a station you love from itunes, check the info for the station in iTunes. Highlight the station and look in the File menu for "Get Info," (Ctrl+I is the keyflick in most systems). At the bottom of the summary page is an item "Where" which lists the URL for the station.
Grab your iOS device, start up a browser and enter the URL into the address window. You'll be streaming that station in no time, without adding another app!
A little less user friendly than native to iTunes, but you don't have to search for new stations this way.
    I hope this helps!

  • Why submit a new radio station in itunes?

    Hello everybody
It's possible to add a new radio station in itunes?
Is there an email or a contact at itunes?
    Thank you very much

There's no publically known way of doing it. 'They find you, you don't find them' is their apparent method of finding new stations for the Radio list at this time.

  • Playing Sirius Satellite Radio music Using Itunes through Airtunes

Ok.. This is an interesting one. I am a Sirius Radio subscriber. I can listen to a limited list of Sirius Radio stations online with my Mac. Unfortunately that will only play through my computer speakers.
Itunes has many optional radio stations that play through Airtunes( which I currently own and use). Do any of you know of a way in which I can play my online Sirius Radio broadcasts through Itunes to my Airtunes on my house stereo Receiver?
I have an Airport Extreme router and Airport express.

    Chris:
Thanks for the tip. I downloaded the trial version and all seems to work for me. They only allow a 10 minute trial to test it out. I am happy to pay $25 for the working copy.
That should allow me to extend my Sirius Radio to my home system rather inexpensively. Sirius Radio is a good product, but every radio connection costs more money. I use a boombox with my radio outside, but inside is always challenging to pick up a signal, unless I want to invest more money in an outside antenna( NOT!).
    thanks again.

  • Import radio stations from iTunes Radio to Music app.

    Hi.
You have the Music app and can listen to radios on iphone5s.
While I have some favorite radio stations in the "radio" of itunes on Mac PC, those are not listed on Music app on iphone5s.
How do you import radio stations from iTunes Radio to Music app.
I tried searching genre after tapping on + button in My Stations, but there is no genre I want to add, which is "ambient: a-a lounge".
I also know the way to listen to the radio station on Safari, but what I want to do is listen them on the Music app.
    Any addvice?
    Thank you.

I found a cool radio station on itunes, can I record
some music, save and put on my ipod? Thanks! Denise
I should clarify that. I guess I could record the radio to a CD, put that on itunes, then ipod. But can I leave out the step of the CD? In other words, will itunes record from itself?

When I am listening to the radio (streaming through itunes) my macbook pro will log me out, quitting all the applications I have running (often firefox, word processing, itunes, etc). Why?
It's very frustrating and I don't understand why it happens. It might happen other times, but I notice it the most when I'm streaming the radio through itunes, though I think it's also happened when I'm streaming music or shows from NPR, so I don't actually know if it's an itunes thing, or an internet thing? Or just my computer being stupid?  But how can I fix it?
    Thanks!

My best guess at this point is a problem wwith 10.5.8
It seems clear to me that sometimes, seemingly randomly, software will access the video card (flash player, quicktime, Safari's HTML5 video player, etc) and it will cause a freeze and then log out.
However - it could just be video card + processor under load.
This didnt happen before 10.5.8 and I'm thinking it's not the new 27" display causing the issue.
I'm going to attempt to find time to revert back to 10.5.0 and then combo update back up to 10.5.7 which may be difficult as our IT is remote and we don't have access to Snow Leopard discs.
I may just have to bring my own in.

  • DIY how to guide: BBC radio streams in iTunes

Been searching for a while to get BBC radio streams (for me, specifically BBC radio 4) working in iTunes, and since I could't find any information in the discussions here, this is how I did it with help from various sources on the net.
    What you need:
    flip4mac plugins installed (free)
    VLC (free)
QuickTime 7 Pro (the regular QuickTime 7 does not allow saving)
    Safari
    iTunes
You'll find the bbc stream links on the below pages:
    http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/help/playingradio_progs/real_wmastreams
    http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/help/playingradio_progs/local_radiostreams
    What I did:
    1. copy the url to the radio station you want
    2. open the url in VLC, let it start playing
    3. save the playlist as m3u
    4. open the playlist in QuickTime 7 Pro, let it start playing
    5. in QuickTime 7 Pro, save the stream as .mov
    6. open the .mov in iTunes and play it
Even though it lists about 10 minutes in iTunes, it will play the live stream for hours.
    Happy BBC radio-ing in iTunes!

    jeffreyandtibor wrote:
Well I know a much easier one:
    open iTunes
    click radios
    click news/talk radios
    click radio 4
That would be indeed be easier if it worked: unfortunately it doesn't - it looks rather as if the BBC have turned the stream off (unless it's a fault condition, of course).

  • Adding Radio Streams to iTunes?

There are a few online radio stations that I'd like to be able to listen to through iTunes. Is there any way to add them to the list of radio stations that comes preinstalled with iTunes?

I know that Apple is leading edge in many areas of design and user interface, but I must say that iTunes radio is by far the worst feature on iTunes now. At first it was the only good alternative to finding your own stations. I used it all the time. But now? With Pandora and AOL Radio, I find iTunes tired and outdated. Where can I suggest its time for a revamp? I use to love the radio feature, I want to again, but I would currently not recommend it to anyone.
