Radio flash trigger on a G12

I have a 5Dmkii and use it regularly with my Elinchrom studio flashes equipped with a radio trigger. I just had occasion to use my G12 on a shoot and tried it with the radio trigger for the flash heads. It wouldn't fire. I ended up having to go with a longer expoisure so I could fire my trigger by hand and still catch the frame during exposure. Luckily it worked as the ambient light worked into my plan.
My question is how can I get my G12 to fire a radio trigger? Canon should really come out with a firmware update to allow for this flaw in their program.
The G12 is a great camera and actually useful by pros as long as a little functionality could be modified.

cdn-bigfoot,
I am sorry to hear that you weren't able to fire off a radio trigger with your PowerShot G12.
The hot shoe on this camera was tested with Canon EX Series Speedlites only. We do not test third party radio triggers. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause you at this time. Since these are in fact third party units, we cannot attest to their compatibility or guarantee results when used with this camera.
Since you also mention in another post that the Speedlite EX Series are indeed working as they should, I can only assume that the camera is working properly.
I thank you for your notes on additional firmware. I will pass this along to the appropriate party.

What does the manufacturer of your radio trigger say when you ask for help?

I don't know how this ended up as a seperate topic.
I haven't yet contacted Elibchrom, but the problem isn't with the Elinchrom gear.
It's definitely a Canon issue. I have seen others having mysterious issues using pocket wizard on a G12 as well.

• How to realize WHEN-RADIO-CHANGED- Trigger in ADF

Hy@ all,
I try to redevelop the Summit Forms Demo in ADF.
One of the existing modules is called "ORDER" and contains, among other things, radio buttons based on a database column(VARCHAR2) named PAYMENT_TYPE which contains the values CASH and CREDIT.
Based on this Item a WHEN-RADIO-CHANGED- Trigger is called which shows an alert and reset the changes to a default value when the payment type is changed but the credit rating(database column from another table) is not equal to an according value.
The code of the trigger is the following one:
DECLARE
n NUMBER;
v_credit S_CUSTOMER.CREDIT_RATING%TYPE;
BEGIN
IF :S_ORD.payment_type = 'CREDIT' THEN
SELECT credit_rating
INTO v_credit
FROM S_CUSTOMER
WHERE :S_ORD.CUSTOMER_ID = ID;
IF v_credit NOT IN ('GOOD', 'EXCELLENT') THEN
:S_ORD.payment_type := 'CASH';
n := SHOW_ALERT('PAYMENT_TYPE_ALERT');
END IF;
END IF;
END;
Now my questions are where to place the equivalent code(EO, VO, etc.?) and how to realize this.
Further, is it possible to roll out the trigger code to the database and then call this stored unit from "the right place"?
I´m using JDeveloper v10.1.3.1.0 and I´m pleased about any reply or solution.
Best regards
Chris

The answer will depend on how you are storing the parameter in your ADF application and when do you actually need it to be set and based on what.
This can be for example a property of a managed bean in your JSF application and you can initialize it either in the bean itself or in the faces-config.xml file as a managed property.

What version of Reader are they using, exactly? And are you sure they're
using Reader itself and not opening the file inside a browser window, for
example?

• MSI Radio module firmware flashing troubles

Help!!
I've just tried to flash the radio module with the latest software and possibly beacuse the radio was on at the time, the flashing failed and I'm left with a dead radio. There's no display, backlight or clock and none of the buttons work. I suspect it's just erased the flash.
I've tried to reflash from the file I downloaded but it just fails each time.
Let this be a lesson to you all. Don't upgrade the radio firmware when it's on!!!!
Does anyone have any ideas how to solve this?? Is there a jumper link inside to reset the flash???
Any help is much appreciated!!
Many thanks,
Cybermush

Hi ya,
same happened to me!
Here's what I did:
- Clear the CMOS as described in the manual (Power Off, unplug power, J2 set to 2-3, set to 1-2 again)
- Power on and do BIOS and radio flash upgrade
It works again!!

• Trigger Voltage for Older Strobes on new digital cameras

Can anyone tell me what the Highest SAFE trigger voltage is for a Canon SX50 HS point & shoot, My Sunpack 611
(4800 BCPS) has about 43vdc on the contacts when fully charged, will this fry anything ??
Solved!
Go to Solution.

I'm afraid I have no idea what an SX50 can handle....
I know the older Canon SLRs and perhaps the early DSLRs were only rated for 6 volts. Current Canon DSLRs are rated to 250 volts, at least since the 40D time frame, I believe. Maybe earlier, but I don't know at what point Canon improved the SLR/DSLR line to handle higher voltage.
Point n shoots, though, I have no idea and don't know where to find out. You might try emailing Canon support directly. (This forum occasionally sees Canon reps and techs drop in, but is mostly Canon users and enthusiasts helping each other as best we can.)
There is a website that shows flash trigger voltages, but that's by no means a complete list or a rigorous testing of those on the list. It lists the Sunpak 611, but shows a later one tested to have 4 volt trigger voltage, while an older one was much higher at 190 volts. (I assume you have measured your own 611 with a VOM.)
So, I'm not really helping much. Inquire from Canon support about your camera's trigger voltage capabilities. If you are still worried about it, you could use something like a Wein SafeSync to protect the camera from excessive trigger voltage. Or use the flash off-camera with a radio trigger (but be warned that radio triggers often have a trigger voltage limit, too.... some I recently looked at are rated to 24 or 30 volts).

• Why not autoskip for radio buttons? and the update_allowed FALSE issue

I would so dearly love there to be autoskip for radio buttons. (forms 11.1.1.4 jre 6...24) There is no autoskip property for the radio group nor for the individual buttons.
I don't find an easy way to emulate it either. Or am I missing something?
Anyone else solve this problem already? When the user selects a radio choice I want the focus to move
to the next enabled item on the form. You can do this with text items but not with radio groups. (In some cases the radio group has a when-radio-changed trigger
that enables/disables following items). This would all be a lot easier if radio groups just had autoskip. I wonder why they don't?
BTW the following has cost me a huge amount of time. In 6i it was the case in my experience that if you
disabled an item like this:
PROCEDURE disable_item (myitem in varchar2) IS
BEGIN
copy(null,myitem);
set_item_property(myitem,enabled,property_false);
set_item_property(myitem,visual_attribute,'DISABLED');
END;Then that could be reversed as so (the weird thing was you had to set navigable also despite not
having changed it yourself.
PROCEDURE enable_item (myitem in varchar2) IS
BEGIN
set_item_property(myitem,enabled,property_true);
set_item_property(myitem,navigable,property_true);
set_item_property(myitem,visual_attribute,'ENABLED');
END;But in 11.1.1.4 I had lots of trouble with Lov's not rising after the item had been disabled and then
re-enabled. No error message. Just didn't do it. Eventually I figured out that what happens is that
after disabling an item the item as also non-updateable. This was not the case in 6i. So then
the enable item code has to be something like this: [Note despite that not update_allowed it did not
automatically grey out the item firefox 3.6.17 and it still has to be done programmatically.]
PROCEDURE enable_item (myitem in varchar2) IS
BEGIN
set_item_property(myitem,enabled,property_true);
set_item_property(myitem,navigable,property_true);
set_item_property(myitem,visual_attribute,'ENABLED');
set_item_property(myitem,update_allowed,property_true);
END;

Well right now 11.1.1.4 for autoskip for radio buttons this seems to be working ok. Crossing my fingers!
a block level when-radio-changed trigger with after scope (where item level when-radio-changed triggers
have before scope) with a simple next_item in there.
Where I was having problems before was next_item-ing onto disabled items. There was some kind of issue
with lov's. I'm having less trouble raising the lov programmatically. but also I had the problem that
items were getting set non-update_allowed without my realization.
when new item instance:
declare
currfield varchar2(70) := null;
begin
currfield := :system.trigger_field;
if (get_item_property(currfield,UPDATE_ALLOWED) = 'TRUE')
and (get_item_property(currfield,UPDATE_PERMISSION) = 'TRUE') then
list_values;
else
mess(currfield || ' UPDATE not allowed');
end if;
end;(mess is my program to display alerts.)

• Cannot have execute_query in post-change but can have it when-radio-changed

why is it possible to put execute_query in a when-radio-changed trigger but one cannot put it in
a post-change or post-text-item trigger? (11.1.1.4)
For example I want to ask for a year, and a month. I don't much feel like creating radio items for all those years. Whenever a year
or a month is changed I want it to reconstruct the where clause and execute the query. But the year not being a radio group
is more problematic about how to get execute_query to run. What is thinking here? I think that a text item post-change deserves as much power as a radio_group change! It's unfair.

Over the years, I have found that the people that complain about Oracle Forms the most are the people that refuse to learn how Oracle Forms works. You can't expect to develop in a any framework unless you learn the rules of the framework. I've seen numerous complaints about the lack of documentation on Forms and yet the single most important form of documentation is the Oracle Forms Help system. The answer to virtually every question you might have can be found in the Forms help system, but it helps to understand a little about how Forms functions so you can ask the right questions in the help system.
I also find it hard to understand how an employer will throw someone, with little or no exposure to Oracle Forms, into a Forms project and expect them to "Pick it up" along the way rather than take the time and expense to send them to an Oracle Forms class. How can the employer expect the employee to be successful if they are unwilling to give them the resources they need to be successful. If you are one of the unfortunates that are in this situation, then you could at least perform a simple Google search on "Forms Tutorials" and you will find numerous on-line "Free" tutorials. Don't worry about the Forms version used by these tutorials as you are only going through the tutorial to learn how to create a Form and how the Forms tool interacts with the database; which is doesn't matter which Forms version you are using because this part hasn't changed all that much between the Forms versions.
There are even some really good books (however, quite old) that you can purchase that teach you all the basics of Oracle Forms. Here are just a few:
Developing Oracle Forms Applications by Albert Lulushi
Oracle Forms Developer's Handbook by Albert Lulushi
Oracle Developer: Advanced Forms and Reports by Peter Koletske
Programming with Oracle Developer by Matthew BennettThese are just a few books and yes they are all for older versions of Oracle Forms. But the concepts you will learn apply to any Forms version.
While I admit that it is inconvenient that I can't call a Restricted built-in from certain triggers once you understand the reasons why you can't call Restricted built-ins it make sense why Oracle built their event model the way they did. By calling certain restricted built-ins in a trigger, such as the When-Validate-Item trigger, you could very easily cause an an endless loop to occur in your application. For example, if you were allowed to call the GO_BLOCK or GO_ITEM built-ins from a When-Validate-Item trigger you could cause cascading validation events to occur. While this is not a bad thing in and of itself, but what would happen if I sent the Forms Navigation cursor to go to an item before I had completed my validation logic. The item I sent the cursor too also happens to have validation logic assigned to it that just so happens to send the navigation cursor to the item I just left. Understand, the first item has not yet completed it's validation process and the second item sends the cursor right back the first item - which triggers a new validation event on the first item. Now I've got compounding events in the execution stack and I've put my application into a loop that I will never get out of because I've got validation logic that never completes successfully so the validation event never exits - it just keeps running and running.
At first, you might say that it is the developers responsibility to ensure this does not happen and the developer should be more careful with their code to prevent this from happening and you would be right. We (developers) are responsible for writing safe code. However, after a while, software manufacturers eventually put restrictions in place because there are enough irresponsible developers out there causing problems and the only way to fix the issue is through the use of framework restrictions.
Having said that, Oracle Forms has certain restrictions for good reasons. Because you don't understand what those reasons are is not a good reason to complain about the restrictions. Rather, I would hope, that your lack of understanding of a particular framework/methodology would encourage you discover the "Why's" and "How come's" of the framework.
The simple fact of the matter is you cannot be successful with Oracle Forms unless you learn how to program within the Forms Framework. You can't take C++, Java or any other programming language and apply the rules of programming these languages to Forms. You absolutely must learn how Oracle Forms operates and what the rules are for developing successful Forms applications.
That's my two cents on the topic. I'm trying to start a flame war; I'm just tired of hearing people complain about Forms just because they don't understand or haven't taken the time to understand how Forms operations and what the rules are for developing within Oracle Forms.
Sincerely,
Craig...

• What trigger can fire when execute_query occurs?

I have a form where the new form instance trigger calls execute_query (parameters bring the query
field info). I need the code in some when-radio-changed triggers to execute when execute_query occurs
as well. What is the easiest way to do this? (I do not find when-new-item-instance firing at execute_query).
forms 11.1.1.4
Is the only way to do this to put each when-radio-changed in its own procedure and call each explicitly?
(since you can't call a when-radio-changed trigger by name with execute_trigger (why?)).
Well since I wrote that I did put the triggers in procedures and call them and that does work.
Seems to me in forms6i the when new item instance trigger would've fired. This is definitely a whole
new ballgame it seems.

write the code in the POST-QUERY trigger for this purpose.

• LocalConnection: Receiving message from flash(.swf) file

hi
I have got a flash radio file (.swf) from third party which playes the songs. I need to integrate this inside my application.Application is portal and written in asp.net which launches this flash file as pop-up
Scenario is : When user click on any song in .swf file, at the application we should be able to display its title.
I have found(through reverse enginnering) that radio.flash file uses localConnection and send following parameters whenever the user click on any song.
conn.send("basePlayerConnect,"setPlayerLabel","title","thumb","albumtitle")
where title is string, thumb is image and albumtitle is string
Now i have written a another flex application which has a textinput. i emebeded this in the portal application (as embedded .swf file). Whenever a radio popup is launch at site and user click on any song the title of the song should be displayed inside this flex application
Code is:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="vertical" creationComplete="{createLw()}">

]]>
</mx:Script>
<mx:TextInput id="sentMessage_txt" x="0" y="0"/>
</mx:Application>
this is very imp for me please let me know how to ahieve this

Try
