Radio Station with Stratus/P2P?

Is it feasible to run an online radio station with RTMFP/Stratus/Flash?  First, how does one get audio from a dj application such as Traktor INTO Flash?  Second, if a peer disconnects, will those listeners connected to it get dropped audio or will it pick another peer?  I'm sure there are other issues, but there's a start.
Thanks!

Flash Player can capture/publish audio from any of your computer's input sources via the Microphone class.  and i believe that it's possible to make the audio output of some applications appear as a virtual microphone on Windows computers (but i don't know how -- i'm a Mac/Unix person).
unfortunately there is a bug where audio-only multicast streams won't play back; there must be at least some kind of video as well (but it could be a tiny frame at like 1 fps and a tiny bitrate to get the job done).  this bug will be fixed in a future release of Flash Player.
the P2P multicast mesh has a lot of redundancy and, with the default multicast stream parameters, can usually distribute the stream even in the face of significant churn in the mesh (that is, peers arriving and leaving).
based on your question, i believe that our P2P multicast scheme is more sophisticated than you think it is.  Matthew Kaufman's MAX2009 session covered this in detail; you might enjoy it.    i encourage you to watch the session:
   http://tv.adobe.com/watch/max-2009-develop/p2p-on-the-flash-platform-with-rtmfp
he talks in detail about multicast starting at 36 minutes and 25 seconds, but the entire session is worth watching.

  • Some internet radio stations with http protocol and mp3 format not working in AIR 2.0

    First, i am sorry for my bad english. When I publish swf for Flash 10 player all stations in my list works. If I publish them for AIR 2.0 stations with adress end ":XXXX", where XXXX is port number, they cannot work. What is problem? Thanks in advance.

    Perhaps,  in the previous post I wasn't clear enough, so I'll try to make it better: I am using the Adobe Flash CS5 and AS3. I wrote the script for listening internet radio stations. In the station list I named only those that use HTTP protocol and mp3 format, cause I know the limits of Flash in audio streamings. If I publish FLA file in SWF for Flash 10 player all the stations can be listened.. If swf file is made for AIR 2.0 there's a problem: the stations with adress  http://xxx.xxx:xxx/<something> can be listened, and those without extension behind the port number (:xxx) can not. Main parts of the script are:
    startButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, listen);
    req.url= "<adress>";
    snd = new Sound();
    snd.load(req);
    private function listen(event:MouseEvent):void {
    req = snd.play();
    Example:
    adress=http://scfire-ntc-aa08.stream.aol.com:80/stream/1010 - working
    adress=http://www.radionovosti.rs:443/radionovosti56s.mp3 - working
    adress=http://sh1.beotel.net:8002 - not working
    adress=http://77.105.36.58:8881 - not working
    It would be great if someone of Adobe employers explain to me what is the problem. Thanks.

  • I cannot play radio station with embedded player on Mountain Lion

    Hi all,
    Since buying my first ever Macbook Pro back in April 2012 I have had problems playing radion stations which appear to have embedded player (MWP?). I installed Flip4Mac and have the latest version of [Version 10.2 (603.6)], updated plug-ins for both Google Chrome and Mozila Firefox and still no joy.
    The machine came with Lion 10.7 installed and I have just upgraded to Mountain Lion 10.8. This upgrade didn't help with the problem either. The radio station im am trying to listen to is www.radiovaleam.com
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    GGQB

    Thanks Varjak Paw!
    I know this particular radio station is very hit and miss as far as being on air is concerned, but the problem that I am having is that the controls on their page are not shown by my browsers on Mountain Lion, as shown in the picture below:
    Any idea where I am going wrong here? All my systems seems to be up-to-date and working well, with the exception of instances like this particular one, and always to do with some media formats.
    Best wishes,

  • Has anyone noticed you can now listen to internet radio stations with TV?

    I just noticed this last night. Months ago many of us were complaining of the inability to listen to internet radio stations on TV.
    I had created a folder in iTunes for Internet radio stations. Last night I noticed those stations are all showing up on my TV screen and I can listen to them. Maybe this was added during Apple's last update?
    I like it!

    no it's been around since 2.0.1 or something
    but it seems unstable
    havent tested if it's still the case but people
    reported in this forum that a boot of the atv
    mean one have to delete the playlist
    and make a new one to get the radio to work
    and not long ago a guy reported that after a few hours
    listning to radio the atv crash

  • How to stream talk radio on iTunes 12.  Was able to do so on iTunes 11, but can't find the radio stations on iTunes 12.

    Just upgraded to iTunes 12 - and now cannot stream local radio stations on iTunes.  I've looked under the RADIO section but the upgrade deleted my stations.  When I try to ADD a radio station - the iTunes 12 Search doesn't find it...  I was able to find and stream this same radio station with iTunes 11.  The iTunes 12 upgrade wiped out my history and radio stations.  Has anyone figured out how to add back individual radio stations?

    Hey bbhillfarm,
    Thanks for the question. I understand that you are having trouble finding the Internet Radio section of the new iTunes 12. The following resource should point you in the correct direction:
    Listen to Internet radio - iTunes Help
    http://help.apple.com/itunes/mac/12/#/itns2946
    Tune in to Internet stations
    1. Click the Internet Radio button   near the top left of the iTunes window (if you don’t see it, click ).
    2. To see the available stations, click the triangle next to the type of music you want to listen to.
    3. To tune in, double-click a station.
    If you use a dial-up modem to connect to the Internet, choose a station with a bit rate of less than 48 kilobits per second (kbps) for best results. To see a station’s bit rate, select the station, then choose File > Get Info.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Synching Internet Radio Stations Playlist with ATV - Doesn't always work!

    I'm having some challenges with ATV Take 2 and itunes 7.6.1 to synch a playlist that contains internet radio stations. I can get it to work when I first sync ATV to iTunes, but then within a few hours, the playlist does not remain synched, and when accessed through ATV, it gives a message to the effect that "there are no songs in this playlist". The only way to fix the problem is to re-synch ATV, which is a pain.
    Has anybody successfully set up a playlist containing internet radio stations in iTunes and managed to keep it synched in ATV Take 2?

    I am having the same problem. This is one of the features that I was really excited about

  • Is there a way to use my iPod Nano to listen to a radio frequency with wireless headphones.  It tells me that I have to plug in my headphones to receive the stations and when I do, the wireless headphones don't work!

    Is there a way to use my iPod Nano to listen to a radio frequency with wireless headphones.  It tells me that I have to plug in my headphones to receive the stations and when I do, the wireless headphones don't work!

    No. I'm sorry. But, i think it uses the headphones as an antenna so it has to be plugged in to headphones in order to make it work. but, it burns the battery down so i don't use the radio function that much.

  • Why can't I listen to radio stations and run a download on the ipad2 at the same time as with the original iPad

    why can't I listen to radio stations and run a downloaded program at the same time with the ipad2 as I could with the original iPad?
    is there something in the new one that I have not turned on?

    Nothing needs to be turned on. What apps are you attempting to use? Perhaps the versions you have don't support background operation.

    After a successful home button repair on my iPhone 4, I've got a buzzing sound when I make or receive calls. No problem with the speaker as I can listen to online radio stations and my music.

    I guess your definition of a "successful repair" is different from most people's.
    If you got it serviced by Apple, take it back to them.
    If you had it serviced by a 3rd party, Apple won't touch it. Take it back to whoeever fixed it for you.
